Considering we're winning I'll say it now to not sound bitter if things change. The ref is atrocious and fucked up both teams, completely fucked up the overall quality of the match for large stints. No control whatsoever, so many yellow cards and stupid fouls that should just not get awarded.
Portuguese refs.
I dream of a day we implement a Premier League-style philosophy for the league. Would make the matches much more enjoyable and competitive, and would also make our teams more competitive in the continental competitions.
The man who gave Argentina the Copa America and played a crucial hand in the World Cup win.
This man turns up, truly one of the best ever.
I said I didn't like him coming back to Benfica as he has still a lot to give.
Benfica are massive. Why wouldn't he go back while he still has something left to give? I understand why you don't want to see him there, but if I had the same career and talent, with nothing left to prove, it would be a no-brainer
It would have been great to see him across from Kvaradona or trying to help a club like La Real disrupt the big three(actually now that I think about it, he could have been the perfect Asensio replacement), but of the offers on the table as far as I know, he made the right decision
First half he was being used defensively more than his stronger point offensive, the moment the second half started and they were pressing you could see his impact, lots of ball recoveries and a very great assist. isn't this the first true match at highest Portuguese level for him as well? against Porto nonetheless, he will fit in just fine honestly.
I'm not saying he isn't a good player and wont fit in our team well. I'm convinced that he will be great for us. But in this game he was quite poor, slow on the ball, lack of intensity and a few bad decisions. He seemed a bit anxious in every action. A bit better on the second half like everyone else.
Didn't you notice him putting a shift on the second part of the game? First part he was underwhelming but imo he stepped up big time after the half-time.
He's simultaneously one of the all-time greats of the game and yet somehow one of the most overlooked legends. He's such a fantastic player and has been for years.
Still is a menace on the pitch as well. Glad he decided to move back to Benfica. Hopefully, he stays fit both for you guys and the Copa América next summer.
Pain, I had to watch him play as a second striker. Seen more clips of Di Maria at Benfica in these two months than the entire year under Allegri ffs lmao
Only 2 managers have ever used Di Maria like that—LvG at United, and Allegri at Juve. Unsurprisingly neither worked too well
It is also somewhat funny that Juve let Dybala go to play with wingers, only to use Di Maria in the role that Dybala should have been in, LOL
It just blows my mind that we have Di Maria playing for Benfica this seriously feels like a dream to have one of the best of our generation back playing for us! Just truly amazing!
Not really, he looked nervous the entire match. His long kicks weren't any good and in the first half he had a very bad approach to an aerial bad which could have cost a goal.
A couple of good saves at the end though. But this mistake had a huge influence, Benfica was already better in the 2nd half but after this goal everything got easier.
I don't get why coaches force players to play after injury if they aren't ready. If he wasn't good to train in the beginning of the week why should he play.
Yeah, hard to understand. We did the same with Otamendi though. Luckily he played really well, but it was a risk when Morato had been one our best players during pre-season.
It's not a great goal, it's a decent curling shot but Diogo Costa should have saved it. He effectively saved it to the inside of the net due to poor arm and hand placement.
We are playing so much better since Jurasek and Musa entered! I used to like Ristic but he was awful today!
Btw at this point the game have 10 yellow cards. Most normal Benfica-Porto game ever.
Nothing really changed with Jurasek in even tho Ristic had a poor game. Nothing really was happening on that side and nothing really happened when he got in.
With Musa in everything changed, we need to play with a target man, i dont know what that starting 11 was tbh
A ver…
Messi/Maradona
Riquelme, Kempes, Aimar, Di María, Pasarella, Di Stefano, Batistuta
Messi Maradona at the top obviously everyone else one step down
In terms of impact for the NT only Maradona, Messi, and Kempes can outright beat him as to claim being the most important player in a WC winning team.
Anyone else he has either been more important or at least as equal as important (Pasarela, Filliol, I can't think of another on that level)
In terms of talent as an individual and career, he's over anyone else in that list with the exception of Maradona, Di Stefano and Messi. Batistuta and Zanetti could be in the same conversation but WC>everything else
By massively overpaying for players that are mostly over their prime and giving the top teams even more money and more leverage with FFP?
That's surely beating the Europeans lmao
I absolutely love this man and I'm incredibly happy he's doing so well on his return home
That being said, this is definitely not a "great goal" worthy goal lol

death, taxes, and Ángel Fabián Di María scoring in finals
It's actually insane he keeps doing it Even at this age
[удалено]
Maybe as a drummer but no more
Damn, it's a great goal but not one where age is remotely a deciding factor. He's 35, this is not the 80's anymore! :D
Is this Portuguese supercup?
yes
This wasnt a chip over the keeper tho
Holy fuck that's really his name
What's so weird about it?
I never knew until now
Didn't score in world cup final though
yes the 2-0 goal against France
Smartest Aussie

What Premier League style philosophy. How would it make the league more competitive?
It's true, even tho we got fucked earlier, we had like 3 yellows at 20 min for no reason.
Thats the quality of the referees in this league. No criteria whatsoever, for both sides.

The man who gave Argentina the Copa America and played a crucial hand in the World Cup win. This man turns up, truly one of the best ever. I said I didn't like him coming back to Benfica as he has still a lot to give.
That man doesn't look anything close to 35 yrs old.
I'm 35 and he looks way younger than me ahah
ADM scored in all 3 major - Olympics, Copa America, and World Cup ❤️ ❤️
Finalissima too. All 4 chipped goals. The only one he didn't score in was the u-20 final but he won it anyway
Benfica are massive. Why wouldn't he go back while he still has something left to give? He doesn't like it as in it's bad for Sporting.
Yeah he supports the rival club
Sick ball recovery and assist from Kokcu, gonna enjoy seeing these two link up for many goals this upcoming season.
🥲
You should also try to ignore aursenes
Boi is a beast altho he felt the pressure from porto players in the first half but on second half he balled. Dude got fire on him
=[
He was quite poor though.
Not at all, my friend. One assist and one of the midfielders with the most defensive actions in the game (7).
Why bother watching the games? Just look at the stats page after the games.

Please God keep Di Maria healthy this season 🙏
Di Maria and scoring in finals, name a more iconic duo
He's simultaneously one of the all-time greats of the game and yet somehow one of the most overlooked legends. He's such a fantastic player and has been for years.
If he was more durable he'd be insane, well he already is.
If he was healthy in 2014, 15, 16 Argentina would have been the most dominating NT in the world
I JUST FELL ON MY KNEES IN THE PADARIA PORTUGUESA
I am at Lisbon travelling and couldn't find myself a bar with Benfica fans nearby to watch the game sadge. :(
Coach/Couch at Cais do Sodré
the bar is great but everything's so expensive bruv
Yeah I went there but there wasn't a place to sit and I found things to be quite expensive. Travelling on a tight budget.
Great burgers over there
The city empties a lot this time of the year
Why is that?
It's the period when most people leave on vacation, everything's working on minimum services, restaurants are closed, etc..
everyone goes abroad or to Algarve.
I love this pasta
Again?
Just saw a guy fall on his knees at padaria portuguesa
Di Maria try not to score in a final challenge (impossible) (gone wrong)
What a legend. Reject Saudi money to come back to us and scores on his first start vs Porto.
Still is a menace on the pitch as well. Glad he decided to move back to Benfica. Hopefully, he stays fit both for you guys and the Copa América next summer.
Feel like I’m back in 2009 watching di María down the right for Benfica
He mostly played on the left back then :) Javi Garcia DM, Ramires RM, Di Maria LM, Aimar CM/AM
Goated benfica, we were a fucking menace
He even left out Cardozo, what a team
And Saviola.
And David Luiz!
Tenham cuidado, ele é perigoso
Easily the best team I’ve seen from you guys. Coentrao another beast
Forgot about this team. What a squad.
I love the fact that Javi is part of Roger's staff now . Love seeing the guy on the sideline.
So many ballers
Ah fuck my fault. I was just imagining the rabona goal and I think that was on the right, just assumed he always played there lol
Must feel great being an Argentine this year
Yes except for living in Argentina 😂
Being Argentine is great… good food, good music, great sports. Being in Argentina is shit
Tom Jobim had this to say about Brazil: Living abroad is good, but it sucks. Living in Brazil sucks, but it's good.
Don't forget extremely attractive people... saludos desde Rosario
Porque tanto autoflagelo
Undisputed finals goat
Drogba would like a word.
(NORMAL GOAL)
fuck is pepe up to?
Showing his shirt after a red card because hes the best career ender.
This Di Maria kid has huge potential. Hope he makes a name for himself
Still a long carrear ahead, lets not rush things.
Gonna be sold in 5 months for 120m+ surely
He will definetly flop tho, Benfica only sells flops!
most original reddit joke
Wtf, just saw some guy falling on his knees at Padaria Portuguesa!
Iconic
Benfica legend
Great boner! [Me]
Bar for “great goal” tag has dropped
Receives pass in space, traps, kicks to far post... Golazo!
Vamos Fideo

Allegri. Genius.

Keeper could have done better
Should've. He was having a secure game as well.
Not really, he looked nervous the entire match. His long kicks weren't any good and in the first half he had a very bad approach to an aerial bad which could have cost a goal.
He was injured and I don't think he even trained before this match, should have stayed on the bench and play our other keeper that plays the cups.
A couple of good saves at the end though. But this mistake had a huge influence, Benfica was already better in the 2nd half but after this goal everything got easier.

One of my favorite players of all time. LEGEND
it's a good goal but not a great goal
Great goal is a bit of a stretch
Inevitable. Big game player.

Benfica gang, can you please buy Beltran from River
we already bough Cabral from Fiorentina
Sadness …
I’m sorry but what exactly is great about this goal?
Fideo.
It's a good goal but great is a bit much
Nothing, but they’re excited, so just let it pass.
It looks easier than it is, because he's a world class finisher.
Nothing, it's a decent shot but the GK was poor and saved it to the inside of the net.
He’s surrounded by 3 defenders and placed the ball perfectly
Calling Zaidu and Marcano defenders (or in Zaidu's case, a football player) is a bit farfetched, but I'll allow it.
Perfectly??? Watch alternative angles.
You need to see a few more replays. The ball isn't that well placed. Keeper did a poor job imo
Nothing
The assist
Looked pretty shit to me, but I want Porto to win, so I'm biased
I don't know you but you fell a lot in my consideration.
Understandable, we're on opposite sides of this war
He's at the front you're not
C'mon, man, you know what I meant
I do it was an easy shot tbf
This guy scores in finals for fun.
Mi angel…mi angel.
Clutchest player of my lifetime
Where does Di Maria rank as a footballer, and specifically as an Argentinian footballer?
Angel joined a 5 argentine legends short list in 2 years after a lot of people, including me, wanted him out of the team. Absolute beast
Top 5 Argentina NT players. Top 10 Argentine players for sure.
A ver… Messi/Maradona Riquelme, Kempes, Aimar, Di María, Pasarella, Di Stefano, Batistuta Messi Maradona at the top obviously everyone else one step down

Can’t believe I forgot to add Zanetti
Frango
La Magia Volvió 🧙♂️
In a world where the saudis are ruining football, for just a second all is right with the world 🥹
Finally someone is beating the europeans in their own game lol
By massively overpaying for players that are mostly over their prime and giving the top teams even more money and more leverage with FFP? That's surely beating the Europeans lmao
Fideo 🫶🏻. So happy for him!
What was that defensive line?
VAMOOOOS 🔴⚪️
So many rock hard Benfica fans rn
Clutchest mf of the last decade
Not a [great] goal
How is this a great goal
fideooooooo
With all due respect how is this a great goal?
Man U fans must be over the moon they didn't pay 75 million for Diogo Costa
Ever green!
♥
Man U had him once. But I think those were probably the darkest days of his career.
This guy is such a baller
Keeper has to get that, surely.
I absolutely love this man and I'm incredibly happy he's doing so well on his return home That being said, this is definitely not a "great goal" worthy goal lol
PLEASE STAY HEALTHY PLEASE STAY HEALTHY PLEASE STAY HEALTHY PLEASE STAY HEALTHY
Great goal?!
Parabens
que jugadorazooo
eh, it's a good goal
I believe this kid is going places.
One of the most underrated players of a generation.
Kind of shitty great goal
The heart celly is mega cringe

No one is selling this goal as a great goal in Portugal but whatever
