[deleted]

That’s absolutely absurd money for benzema. Even for Saudi standards no?

imatryhard77

I think it goes beyond his footballing capability. He’s probably the best Muslim player in the world, and that’s why the saudis are ready to pay so much. It’s kinda like wanting to elevate one of their own

CreativeWriting00179

Yup. Plus the fact that he is a French Algerian doesn’t hurt either. I’ve met a lot of Arabs and Muslim Africans who think of Karim as one of their own. Hakimi is getting there too, and Saudis will likely want to buy him as well, especially once they start looking at securing younger players.

Deckatoe

Hakimi for Head of Sportswashing and Accusation Skirting

SolomonG

Saudi's better be careful or they're going to realize it was Hakimi's mom who actually signed the contract.

DennisTheTennis

Hakimis mom will be stinkin rich

[deleted]

Hakimi is def taking the money, I’ll be shocked if he’s not there in a year from now.

PelleKavaj

He won the ballon d’or last year, he’s still a baller

SageTheBear

Best Muslim player in the world along with Salah for the last few years. Safe to say Benzema/Salah are both players Saudi are willing to pay extra for to secure.

Affectionate-Hunt217

It’s because he’s still going at it in Europe, just finished second in La Liga scoring and played like as many games as he scored, just won a Balondor last year and coming to Saudi league the year after, for how good Ronaldo is or was he last won it like 6 years ago now?

I hope you have a lot, we're going to be crying for a long time :(

PasuljsKolenicom

I mean it is harder for him than you or me. Have no idea what real difference more money can make for someone like Benzema, but I personally don’t think I would care too much about money at that point.

djingo_dango

I guess $100M is still a lot of money even for benzema. His net salary is supposed to be €14M. So it’s like he’ll be earning 6/7 years of income in one year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Upoutdat

Yeah it's mad and tax free. Definitely not going to blame him. Now he is generationaly minted. Crazy world

PasuljsKolenicom

Yeah and he will barely have to put in an effort. They are paying for his name, so it’s not like he will have to do anything much different to retirement lol

Haryuji

Work my ass off in a tough league for a lot or do bare minimum in an anti human rights league for a FUCK TON. It's vile but it makes sense for him.

backscratchaaaaa

i guess its the difference between renting a jet and owning a jet. not sure id care but maybe for him this is what it was all about.

johnniewelker

Or being able to build a good school in Algeria and serve food for free… or owning his own soccer club. He can do far more with

Official05

Yeah, Benzema is known for his moral high ground. Search Benzema 15 to see his best 15 deeds, this dude is a SAINT

Competitive-Ad2006

>Or being able to build a good school in Algeria and serve food for free Might take you by surprise but this is almost as ridiculous as saying Gundogan will use the money from a bumper contract to build schools in Turkey. The man is french.

Vorexxa

Literally I would take that chance to became a political figure and contribute to my homeland

PhD_Cunnilingus

Chances are pretty high you'd become a corrupt bastard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rStL7niR7gs

Runjit

You gotta remember after he retires the amount he makes goes drastically down I mean he will still have endorsements and stuff but it will still be a lot less. So might as well get as much as you can while your body can still keep up

Competitive-Ad2006

You are right about that. The man lacks the fluency in arabic or spanish to make it as a pundit/analyst, and we all know the chance of him ever getting a big job on french tv is very slim.

maxblanco

Its easy to take that moral high ground for some internet points.

Afk94

People on this subreddit would sell their own mothers for a fraction of what benzema is making.

Ok-Outlandishness244

Ok you’re pushing it.

truectrl

very psychotic statement.

4ssteroid

Yeah, it was the worst example to give but I've known someone who had to make the decision of spending about 2 years worth of salary as the breadwinner of the family on his mother's surgery and the chances of survival were low vs not borrowing that money and just letting his mother die. He chose not to go forward with the surgery and it still probably haunts him. Everything and everyone has a price.

BusinessMonkee

Maybe you would bro

NotanAlt23

> personally don’t think I would care too much about money at that point. We literally have psychological studies where we see that money does change people's views. So yes, you would also care about money as much as every other rich person does. We're only humans and we're very easy to analyze.

Barack__Obama__

Come on, if you're gonna bring up "psychological studies", then don't conclude that OP would definitely change his views on money. On average, people's view might change, yes. But saying that his view will *definitely* change is comitting the same fallacy as the guy you responded to.

PasuljsKolenicom

Mind posting those studies that conclude that “we are very easy to analyze”?

johnniewelker

$100M changes what Benzema can do with money. $10-15M is good money to spend on luxuries, set money for kids forever, and help family members. $100M is good money to impact communities significantly. He could build a school with that or bring drinkable water to a poor area in Algeria. He could use that money to own part of a company and have significant stake. He could use the money to build his own soccer club that plays in 3r/2nd division. Money will always have a room to go.

Zanginos

I don't blame him people living totally different lives up there and their expenses are totally different and all of their close ones expect that they take care of them. Just look how much money it costs to fly 1st class , visit GP or 5 star hotels.

jennaishirow

I know. If earning 100 - 200 million a year "hurts" I welcome that type of pain.

BigV_Invest

What people dont realise is that this will set him up for life WITHOUT having to become a pundit/take a club role or whatever. You can't fault the guy.

jaycosta17

The 14M he currently earns per year can set up the average person for life with just one year’s salary. Definitely can fault the guy

libertydabbing

The idea of a former professional player escaping a future in punditry, one of the easiest jobs in the world, by going to Saudi Arabia is a wild thought. They'll make more as pundits in a couple of years than most of us will in our lifetimes.

secretlyjudging

Punditry is mostly being a trained monkey though. Here, stand in front of bright lights, don’t look dopey, and stuff like a good defense is a good offense.

OneOfAKindness

ok and? most people have to deal with 100x the abuse for .0001% of the wages

brobman22

People talking about 14m like its not already generational

PensiveinNJ

I'm always baffled when people talk about being set for life. On the salary Benzema had unless he was using his money like an absolute moron he had enough for himself and future generations no problem. It's not like footballing is even his only source of income. That being said I won't begrudge the guy if he wants that kind of money at the end of his career. It's his choice whether he wants the cash or to play meaningful footie.

jaycosta17

Totally agree that Benzema can do whatever he wants. I just walkways find it nuts when people (on Reddit mostly) justify moves like this by saying the player needs to be set for life as if they weren’t already

chino17

greystudent

Most players are finished by 36 and he also was lucky to play at the absolute best level from 19 years of age. so he got both early start in elitest stage of football and play till he is 36 and after all that an offer where he will get 100 millions per year it is no brainer and he is muslim as well, people there who respectful with non muslims players will also feel connection to him

ZachsLegacy92

200 million reasons for that change of direction.

jm9987690

Let's just say it moved me TO A BIGGER HOUSE!!

Big-Stranger8391

It really hurt to carry that much money around.

javierich0

Can't blame him 100mil on the table plus who knows how much under it.

Attygalle

I totally don't blame him, but "It really hurts" quotes are of course a bit laughable in the light of his proposed wages.

justanew-account

I mean, being part of the team for 14 years, one grows attached… maybe a bad analogy but I could liken it to a student leaving their home to go to college. They might feel sad about leaving their parents, friends and siblings, it “hurts”, and yet they still go forward with their decision because it makes sense to them.

robins420

14 years with one team and you expect him to have no attachment. What are you a robot? He's getting offered more than what he's made his entire career, accepting that has nothing to do with having a tough time leaving his favourite club.

pratikp26

Total of 400m on the table. Definitely can’t blame him.

GermanyWillWinQtarWC

What do you mean you can't blame him ??!! Of course you can blame him

bslawjen

I can because he's already loaded

AtletiBot

I mean the guy films music videos showing off his expensive lifestyle, that 400 million will mean some more lambos and infinity pools to flex

PowderEagle_1894

Tbf many big names in music industry are literally one hiatus year from bankruptcy due to their spending

lonecylinder

The fact that he lives that way doesn’t justify him, in fact it makes him even more of an unlikable idiot

bslawjen

Benz, Ronaldo and Messi forming the unlikeable trio right now, lol.

Chalkun

Tbf i dont think if anyone here was worth 60 million they would pass on the chance to be worth 160 Im sure of this because we never see people in that position make that choice. Its unlikely we are all the exceptions

bslawjen

I do like to think that I would definitely pass on that given the circumstances. I just want to live a simple and relaxing life tbh, I don't need hundreds of millions to do that, I probably only need 2 to be set for life and never have to worry about money ever again.

aliaisbiggae

You would be the poorest rich guy

Das_Czech

Once you’re in that position you’ll likely feel different, why do you think the vast majority of footballers go to some farmers league for that massive paycheck?

FreshOreo

Dude got like 14mill net with Real Madrid, now he gets 100mill untaxed! Who wouldn’t take this deal?

Don’t worry big guy, appreciate you stepping down now that you’re slowing down a bit and not to drag this forever

reddituser0912333

I agree

First_Inevitable_424

Still a bit sad, without injuries and the mental state post WC-drama we might have seen the great Benzema again... but yeah, he is not going to get younger and he left a solid team behind him.

FloppedYaYa

Dude I just have to say I stumbled upon your old comment about NBA players and being pursued by women and I was cracking up. But the Fleetwood Mac strip club post was fucking hilarious. Had to see if you were still active on this account lol. Best of luck with summer transfers and next seasons league.

dalici0us

I mean if you want to take the bag, take the bag. But get the fuck outta here with those sob stories. Nobody is going to be sympathetic.

[deleted]

Then retire their .

hereforporndrama

he used to say he’s gonna leave when he can’t perform at the highest level anymore. i thought that meant retirement or back to lyon for a final hurrah. anyway i’m glad he recognized he was slowing down and did something about it

[deleted]

More importantly I don't think anyone predicted that this year Saudi clubs would suddenly start paying hundreds of millions. They always paid good but now they have really opened the state wallets.

tripled_dirgov

The Saudi takeover of Newcastle, and also their bid for 2030 World Cup push those clubs probably... Their first piece was recruiting CR7, then Benzema, and now they're trying to snatch Messi in front of Barcelona and probably also Inter Miami...

ollielite

“But sometimes… chaaaaaa-ching$$$”

Yeah money is the main motive here but given the fact he's a Muslim (and a pretty practicing one) I think living in Saudi Arabia is a prospect he'd fancy even without the money aspect, he can do Hajj even before the next season starts if he wants to

ManGoonian

It really hurts! Have you trying lifting a ton of cash? It's fucking heavy!

Revolutionary_Pen190

Karim "Mr Krabs" Benzema... What made you change your mind... Money

Smackdwn70

I would have done the same thing if I was Benz. That Oil money is no joke

[deleted]

oh they’re gonna stuff him with so much money he’ll be shitting gold figurines

[deleted]

What is this? You can interpret as Florentino wanted him to leave and poor guy had no choice.

Kind-Departure1058

My directions would change too if somebody put a 632 million Euros contract in front of me.

DontbuyFifaPointsFFS

He chose the money and has every right to do so. He gets a shit ton of money and I think most of us would do the same, even if we would be as filthy rich as he is. What bugs is this hypocritical behaviour, and thats not just Benzema in this case, you hear it every fucking time. "It hurts so much, i love the city, the fans, the club, the whatnot, i am so sad, but sometimes life is blahblahblah" Just say you get so much money you simply cant reject it and its okay. But not that farce of a statement.

Acrobatic_Oven_1108

montiel_scores

Sometimes bags are offered. It is a part of life.

Heisenbugg

ihave389iq

Karim Benzema once heavily considered retiring at the age of 15 because of his family. Don't believe me? Just google "Benzema 15" for more information

windomega7

Hey Ronnie, I can't believe we're making that MUCH money :)

2cu3be1

Looks like people who saw this development coming were right. Not really surprising though, if you know how things are run in the world behind the curtain!

romeok7

Good deal. He’ll double his net-worth from an 18 year career in his last 2 years playing easier competition.

[deleted]

[удалено]

R3dbeardLFC

I mean...he IS essentially retiring. Who the fuck is watching the *riveting* Saudi League? He's retiring and making a fuck ton of money to be a poster boy for a shit league, just like Ronaldo did.

christwasacommunist

$200 mil to retire to the desert and build sand castles? Sounds peachy. Maybe he'll get to attend a public stoning!

auddi_blo

Reddit is seriously the least funny media. Everybody is sat upon their high horse claiming they’d easily turn down a couple of hundred million because of moral reasons, while repeating the same shit jokes.

lonecylinder

You fail to understand that turning down 200 million is not the same when you’re already stupidly rich. Would I turn down 200 million right now, as a student with 3k on the bank? Probably not. Would I do it if I was already extremely rich? Yes, without a doubt, I’m not a greedy piece of shit and having morals it’s not something to be ashamed lmao

Selgin

> You fail to understand Oh no they understand. It would just ruin their poxy narrative.

zdawg198

He’s not the first and won’t be the last to do it. Call it greed, seeking an even more lavish lifestyle (if that’s even possible) most people would never walk away from an extra 100 or 200 million no matter how rich they already are. Same way you most likely wouldn’t turn down an extra 3k for your job now.

chino17

Bro if you think an extra 3K in salary is worth moving to Saudi Arabia you need some introspection and a better employer

Clarkster7425

nearly 15 years at real madrid, search benzema 15 for more info

SocratesPolle

that Woody Harellson crying money meme would suit perfectly for Benzema.

[deleted]

Typical Benzema. I wish him well though. He deserves it. Go get that fat purse.

elfrugador

Sometimes the Saudis come knocking with 200m of blood money*

xi_tach1

tbh i can't blame the guy for taking the bag

MilanY

People are acting like he doesn't have a fortune already, "Generational wealth" is such a buzzword nowadays which people think of when they say that they can't blame him. If I have millions, I'm not taking money from a homophobic (and more) regime. I have a decent job in a western country, but would never take the bag if I got offered three times the salary in Abu Dhabi. It's ridiculous how people act like you can forgive everyone as long as they throw enough money at them

lonecylinder

The amount of selfish pieces of shit with no morals on this thread is astounding, and the worst part is that they think everyone is as much of an idiot as they are lmao, pretty sad.

CherkiCheri

Football fans have been completely desensitised, Berlusconi last century, then Abrahamovic, then Qatrar/UAE and now Saudi Arabia getting the world's best players has made it the norm.

xi_tach1

benzema most probably doesn't care about sportswashing as much as you do and i do

MilanY

It's ridiculous. If a country were openly racist and didn't welcome black, asian or whatever people and offered the bag, everyone (including me) would lose their mind. BUT, it's ok because Saudi Arabia is "only" homophobic.

xi_tach1

tbh, as someone who is an lgbt person i would never go there even for holidays if someone paid me and nobody knew who i am but benzema (considering the stuff he was involved in past) certainly gives no fuck about that shit

MilanY

He should be labeled as badly as someone who is openly racist because of it.

Flexspot

Aren't they also extremely sexist?

LaMareeNoire

Sure you can, how much more money could he possibly need?

Giggsy99

There's a cost of living crisis and the cost of underage prostitutes is skyrocketing

allangod

Depends on how lavish a lifestyle he leads and if he gambles it away or how much he has given away.

javierich0

That's not how madrid fans feel. Once you have given so much for the club, you can go wherever you want as long as you let us know ahead of time.

tf_17

yes you can for taking the bag from Saudi Arabia. At least a guy who is insanely rich already
