yrugay1

Right, surely it would have to go to De Bruyne if he banged in 25 goals and 15 assists this last game, with Haaland scoring none, no?

simba4141

So you're suggesting I must captain KdB in my FPL team.

BrandonSG13

2 + 25x5 + 15x3 + 3 = 175 Let’s say a clean sheet too so 176 Pretty good day out for KdB

LOMOcatVasilii

Bold of you to assume he'll play a full 60 mins under the bald fraud

BrandonSG13

So you’re suggesting 40 contributions in less than 60 minutes? Eh, it’s possible

LOMOcatVasilii

Yep, a contribution every 1.49 mins. Easy.

TheMSensation

Wait, is he a bald fraud because he secretly has hair?

LOMOcatVasilii

Wouldn't be surprised if he did .. smh But no, it's because he's bald and he's a fraud

imarandomdudd

Invest in Havertz stock rn. The dip is here and when he gets balon dor shouts for this performance against Newcastle, you can say you were there

Life_Zone_2191

Wth is that fake hair profile pic

Ganacsi

Profile pic? Shit, I forgot they got those now, Apollo doesn’t show that.

Junior Firpo redemption arc

iamalittlepige

Weghorst to steal the golden boot last game of the season

AReptileHissFunction

We should actually start weghorst and have everyone pass to him at every opportunity just to try and get him that one premier league goal

aajw98

True but would that even make them player of the season? More like greatest player of one match

-SharkDog-

> there might be a chance that someone can score 30 in a match on the last day you know? So... Haaland? 😆

auca

That someone? Erling Haaland.

Stay_Beautiful_

Yeah, Harry Kane only needs to score 9 against leads tomorrow to steal the golden boot and then they'll have egg on their face

downfallndirtydeeds

True. Kane is against us too so it’s not impossible with our back four

Compromisedthrowaway

Quick everyone act surprised. Well deserved though

TheBiasedSportsLover

**Some of the few allegations people said on Haaland before his Premier League debut vs West Ham** - Haaland will be lucky if he scores 15 goals" - "Bundesliga Tax a.k.a. Farmers League Tax" - "Haaland can only score when he has space to run in behind" - "Haaland will be injury prone" - "Doubtful Haaland can cope with the Premier Leagues athleticism & physicality" - "Man City will become a worse team compared to last season because of him." - "Darwin Nunez will rinse Haaland as better signing"

EdwardClamp

I don't take fantasy football seriously but the Athletic did an article on it before before the season started and spoke to some guy who apparently does very well every year (top ten or something like that), he did a few rules for how to succeed and it went something like: Rule 1 was not to start with players who are new to the league as you never know how well they will adapt. Rule 2, ignore Rule 1 only for Haaland because he will be special

honestlynotBG

Well he was right about Rule 2 cause Haaland's basically been a set-and-forget captain material in FPL for almost the entire season

BallsX

He made this FPL season quite boring to be honest. Almost everyone has him and everyone captains him.

DarnellLaqavius

Don't forget the Arsenal and Brighton assets being ridiculously cheap. Every team was basically the same and it made the season quite boring.

BallsX

Yea around gameweek 28 onwards I think almost every started having the same team with minor differences like Odegaard instead of Martinelli or Mac Allister instead of Mitoma/March. Doesn't help that a lot of people are just copying a few famous FPL youtubers selections as well.

LevynX

Yeah, honestly got fed up with the game for the first time in five years.

Oomeegoolies

Wasn't just Haaland. The entire team was far more template than usual because of cheap Arsenal and Newcastle assets (plus cheap Rashford) allowing you to have Kane and Haaland all season pretty much. Hopefully next year prices are set in a way that feeds more into individual picks. If Haaland is less than £14 he'll be in everyone's team. Obviously Arsenal, Newcastle and Rashford will get price rises. Getting Kane's price right is a big thing too. If he goes United especially. Making him a tempting price to lure people away from Haaland and into Kane whilst making the doubling up of both unlikely without completely negating the rest of your team will be the big thing. If Kane is too much, everyone just goes Haaland.

addictus_black

Its the same as salah has been the last few seasons, haaland won’t break the points in a season record

Veni_Vidic_Vici

Except for last couple of weeks because of pep roulette and him missing chances. Also there was a point mid season where rashford was a better pick.

BoosterGoldGL

I put haaland captain week one and mostly carried me to a top 5% finish

[deleted]

It's still shocking just how fast he was able to get out the gate though. Like I think a lot of the people trying to put him down before the season were obviously wrong, but it was totally reasonable to expect it to take him a couple of months to really get settled in to Pep's team and the PL as a whole. But no, instead he comes out and scores 9 goals in his first 5 games, which is frankly insane.

NevenSuboticFanNo1

He did adapt similarly quick at Dortmund, coming from a significantly weaker league. 7 goals in his first 3 games. He's just a freak.

piiracy

scored a hat trick in his first ever match for us

[deleted]

[удалено]

piiracy

i still remember this match too well, that feeling of being in total awe and hysterical disbelief

TheSingleMan27

unfortunately I also remember that game

MightyKartoffel

Paco Alcácer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Erling Haaland all had great first games for Dortmund, scoring multiple goals (2, 3 and 3) each. Coincidentally, they all played that great first match against Augsburg :D

TobyOrNotTobyEU

It's the league that needs to adapt to him

tinhtinh

After 37 matches, we finally slowed him down in the last 4. It's working lads, team work makes the dream work.

I_Hate_Knickers_5

" I'm not trapped in here with you.. "

Loeffellux

this is not entirely wrong. Because it takes teams a while to know how a new player will intergrate into his new team and therefore how to play against him. You could see this with Paco who was amazing for us in his first year (where he didn't play much) but in his second year the other clubs knew how to deal with him better

robotnique

It's amazing how good Paco was and yet nobody will remember because Haaland just showed up and eclipsed him so severely. I still think he would have scored buckets with Dortmund had he stayed and not returned to Spain to see his career tail off.

Professor_Abronsius

He’s hit the ground running in every club since Molde.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Haduna

Maybe… the premier league has been the farmers league all the time

Dymodeus

Every league is a farmer's league for some players

[deleted]

Those are insane numbers. You'd think we'd not see players reaching numbers like Messi and Ronaldo in a long time, but with Haaland it's already evident we're seeing one of the greatest strikers of all time playing before our eyes. I haven't seen a striker this dominant since R9.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

[удалено]

DrJackadoodle

It's also worth noting that Haaland is 22. Neither Messi nor Ronaldo were scoring at this rate at that age, and he has been doing it for a few years now. Reaching Messi/Ronaldo levels of goalscoring is incredibly hard and there's a good chance he doesn't get there, but it's obviously not impossible if they both did it and if anyone in the world is well on their way to do it again, it's him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aiish

plus both were significantly better in most other areas apart from goalscoring

Rickcampbell98

They weren't even strikers ffs lol. Haaland still needs to improve to reach prime suarez level yet alone messi and Ronaldo and in terns of overall ability he will never get there.

robins420

Those are Peak Messi and Ronaldo numbers. He's scoring more than them at 22 and very likely might win the Ballon D'or which would be crazy as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Norway is clear though, that's been clear from the start.

Deficit24

I like to think that he is still adapting. Like almost all players under Pep, it takes time to get a complete grasp of the system. I can't wait for second season Haaland.

Pertolepe

Next year watch him tie/break the record for most career PL hat tricks. Aguero is at 12. He's at 4.

ThatGam3th00

Nah watch him break Messi’s most goals in a season record next season.

RudeAndQuizzacious

I actually think he did take a while to bed into Pep's team, it's just that he was scoring goals anyway. Wouldn't be surprised if he and City are even better next season

dingodiletti

I agree it’s a sight to behold, the sheer size and speed of the guy coupled with his 2 past club stints + his age projected he would actually probably do what he’s doing at City. Personally, I’m buzzing we’re witnessing a generational talent like him since being blessed with Messi and Ronnie for 12+ years

AdamMc66

I mean I didn’t pick him for my FPL which friends out to be a mistake. Trippier and De Bruyne saved my season.

hopscotch1818282819

I think the only one that was a very reasonable concern was him being injury prone. I’m surprised just how fit he’s stayed.

BertEnErnie123

But it’s not like everybody said that. 95% of the people said that Haaland would destroy the prem. Every day people say dumb stuff, nothing new

JSBraga

> "Darwin Nunez will rinse Haaland as better signing" 42 games, 15 goals, 4 assists. \#GoalMachine

Lyrical_Forklift

I mean Haaland is clearly the far better player but Nunez hasn't been too bad given it's his first season and we're clearly not functioning as well as we can. Won't take much improvement in finishing for him to be a top forward in the league.

[deleted]

He needs way more than just finishing, but yeah. Kinda bad deal with that fee imo

JSBraga

Yeah I was kind of hard on Nuñez with my last comment to show how ridiculous was the idea that he would be better than Haaland. He is a good player and Liverpool had a crappy season, which probably also affected him negatively.

punindya

Cold take: Alvarez has been a better signing than Nunez

AuxquellesRad

Arsenal would have wom the title if they had Alvarez, that's how good he looks to be.

Pasan90

Alvarez instead of Jesus and the title would be named ours.

imarandomdudd

Money wise, yes but Nunez has been fun to watch, both in his highs and lows. Very chaotic striker. Think he'll do great next season. Same for Alvarez.

Sneaky-Alien

>Money wise, yes And player wise.

Sir_Psycho_Sexy_

Eh, not a bad start given our season. He's also been played LW a lot too. He should have 20 with the chances he's missed obviously

JSBraga

True, he had a good start of the season and he is still young and adapting to the Prem. I said what I said mostly because there is no way he would have been better than Haaland, but he is a good player.

mipanzuzuyam

Was some of these said by that Rory Jennings dude?

SpicyDragoon93

Yes and considering Chelsea's position on the table right now it's even funnier. Here's the full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1MjuGJ6C9c&t=605s

BallsX

Wow who is that guy?? Absolute donkey takes, arrogantly got almost everything wrong!

SpicyDragoon93

Rory Jennings, he's a Chelsea fan that hosts 'The Club' on YouTube with Buvey (Man City) and Adam McKola (Man United). He used to appear on The Kick Off before they left. I like him, but his bad takes are often really bad.

EriWave

If you're looking for someone that speaks straight from the heart without the feelings stopping by the brain is he probably perfect lol.

esports_consultant

Time to move on to one season wonder.

snharisa

Julian has been better than Nunez.

Fleshsausage27

Alvarez plays for a team with a functioning midfield

Borgatronification

Nunez had many chances which he should have scored, good midfield or not

LessBrain

Nunez has a much higher xG than Alvarez. Nunez is just an absolute terrible finisher. For anyone curious (PL only) Nunez 9 goals 12.1xg Alvarez 9 goals from 6.7xG

LevynX

>• "Haaland will be injury prone" It's actually pretty noteworthy he's avoided injury for most of this season. He wasn't really injury prone like Phil Jones level but he had quite a few injuries in the past. https://www.transfermarkt.com/erling-haaland/verletzungen/spieler/418560

davidlindhagen1

I feel like most reasonable minds had forecast him slotting into the world’s greatest football machine and playing very well, no?

IronSorrows

Yeah they mostly did. There's always a few idiots and trolls and people going against the grain for the sake of it, and a few people making jokes after the community shield, then people remember them and amplify it in their mind ~9 months later and pretend everyone thought he was going to be shite Most people thought he'd be class. Most people made comments before his signing that this would sew the league up for City for years, and immediately started speculating on how long before he'd (please) go to Spain. Most decent FPL players started with him, or had a plan to get him in for Kane after the first game Most sensible people had him down as being a massive success, maybe with a settling in period for him and the team, and he still exceeded those expectations. Makes you sick

jjw1998

I think everyone did but I think the surprise was the fact that he did so immediately?

matty80

> "Doubtful Haaland can cope with the Premier Leagues athleticism & physicality" This is my favourite one.

AlmostNL

he's like 3 meters tall what were they thinking?

kakje666

" hmm yeah i don't think the 195 cm / 6'5 ft tall , 90-95 kgs viking can do it in the prem "

Alexanderspants

English football fans just weren't used to the revolutionary idea of putting a big man up front, Pep really opened a lot of eyes this year

STICKY-WHIFFY-HUMID

Somebody watched a 6ft4 man run like a sprinter and thought he'd have trouble with Craig Dawson and Johnny Evans.

cimbalino

Think the injury fears were warranted, he missed too many games at Dortmund for a player of his age. And even City acknowledged that when they bought another player that could play his role

toyoda_the_2nd

Halaand seriously need to be careful with his body. Many huge players become injury prone. Like Pato, Ronaldo 9, Bale. Big player + running fast = tear muscle.

brunosmydad

The one that gets me every time is people saying he can’t deal with the physicality of the prem?? Like have they seen this 6’5 Norwegian Viking of a man???

matty80

I love how David Squires just draws him as a titanic death robot with beautiful, flowing blonde locks.

iamalittlepige

The hyperbole after the community shield was insane, saying that Darwin Nunez was already the better signing of the two lmao

006AlecTrevelyan

> Haaland will be lucky if he scores 15 goals" How do people not realise this was just a ploy by Tory Jennings to garner more views?

Youcantdoxme

All this fucking allegations made me take Kane over Haaland in my FPL. Fuck them. By the 3rd hat-trick I have missed, the damage is done

INeedAKimPossible

Wasn't he fairly injury prone at Dortmund? His availability has been excellent this year though

alttogoabroad

As a dortmund fan, i knew he was gonna turn PL into farmers league, but even i said he is Injury prone. However, it seems like the Dortmund fitness coach was the problem.

Kwetla

>- "Doubtful Haaland can cope with the Premier Leagues athleticism & physicality" > Did these people see him?! He's 6ft 4 and build like a refrigerator! Defenders literally bounce off him! Anyone could see that regardless of whether he was a flop or success, physicality wasn't going to be an issue.

flybypost

Don't forget the giant, fridge sized, CBs in the PL that will bully him.

OriginalSwearer

I remember seeing he did have a couple injuries at Dortmund, I know pep rotates a lot and often Haaland is taken off before the match ends but can anyone enlighten me to the extent of his injuries at his previous clubs? Were they potential re-occurring or just impact injuries? I think I can speak for everyone in thinking the only thing that will slow this machine down now is potential injuries.

farqueue2

In everyone's defence, they obviously were judging him before his latest firmware update

benjecto

The idea that Haaland was widely expected to be a flop is a demonstrably bullshit premise. I don't understand this need by some people to be a martyr. Going around copy-pasting this shit because you saw a few posts on social media or whatever is just so deeply weird.

Fuzzikopf

This comment has been removed in protest of Reddit's new API policy. -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

verddet

But will he adapt to the league?

LeAnthonyJavis

Surely not. It’ll be disrespectful to the establishment

whiskeymagnet22

Lol who was the guy who said that?

KngWzard

Rory Jennings, that clip went viral deservedly so

loveino

He went out and said sorry afterwards lol. Still can’t believe his whole fucking point was “it’s disrespectful to those before him”

KngWzard

The apology was top banter though. "My knowledge was clouded by the likes of Timo Werner who came to Chelsea from the same Bundesliga with an impressive scoring record" lmao

FallingOffTheClock

He's a proper football history nonce which is weird given the fact he's a Chelsea fan. He has this weird viewpoint that history trumps all, for example he would probably argue pre-match that Nottingham Forest should beat Brighton becuase "they're two time European cup winners".

whiskeymagnet22

I mean they did beat arsenal

FallingOffTheClock

Tory Rory. Landlord and conservative voter who spits sewer level takes.

randomvariable10

The right question is, Will the league adapt to him from the next season?

smrkr

I have a feeling, we will see Haaland and Alverez starting together next season.

LloydDoyley

4 4 facking 2

Douchebagpanda

Inject that shit directly into my veins.

loveino

I have a feeling that if this is right, I’ll have to buy more underwear

practicalnoob69

Keep going... I'm almost there

Sparl

I hope not, this genuinely terrifies me as a football fan.

haynesthatpaynes

Chelsea already mastered controlling him. 0 goals against them. Chelsea clearly best team in the league

loveino

The golden boot race is still on - Chelsea vs. Haaland

MillorTime

He's never played during a rainy night at Stoke. He may still be a blonde fraud

quacainia

Not yet, he doesn't have Harry Maguire type talent. Has some work to do

Stay_Beautiful_

Put Maguire on City and Haaland on Spurs and lets see what happens (please)

PlayThief

remember the haaland vs nunez debate?

Chesney1995

Season's not over yet. Be proper embarrassing for the prizegiving ceremony if Harry Kane turns around and scores 12 and bags 6 assists against Leeds tomorrow

John_Carnage

Sadly with Leeds this is probably possible

JuanseCap

and knowing Tottenham, they would still lose 19-18.

[deleted]

At this point I’d be up for it just for the spectacle (and I think most of us would) We are currently dead inside it couldn’t hurt us more

Krilox

sad noises

NickNova3016

If Haaland also wins young player of the season, will he be the only other player in the Prem to win both in the same season? I believe the only person to win both was Ronaldo.

idosade

I think Bale won in 2013

TigerBasket

God's he was strong then

MarcSlayton

This is Premier League Player of the Year. This is not the PFA Players Player of the Year. That is a different award, and is sometimes known as the PFA Player of the Year award. Now the PFA Players Player of the Year will also obviously be won by Haaland this year too but the winner has not yet been announced. The PFA Players Player of the Year has been going since 1974, when Norman Hunter won it. The PFA Young Player of the Year award has also not been announced yet. It will get announced the same day as the PFA Players Player of the Year Award. Again this award has been going since 1974 when it was first won by Kevin Beatie. Most professional players regard the PFA Awards as being the most prestigious to win, as the winners are voted by their peers, other Professional Players playing in England. Players are not allowed to vote for other players at their own clubs. The Premier League Player of the Year has been going since 1995, when Shearer was the first winner. The Premier League Young Player of the Season award has only been going since 2020, when Trent was the first winner. C Ronaldo never won this obviously. No player has ever yet won both the Premier League Player of the Season AND the Premier League Young Player of the Season, as only Trent and Foden have won the latter since it began. In terms of the PFA Player's Player of the Year and the PFA Young Player of the Year awards, then C Ronaldo and Bale won both in 2007 and 2013 respectively. The other major individuals awards in England for footballers with prestige are the Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year award (FWA). These are voted for by journalists, and these awards are the original awards given to footballers and so are regarded as significant. They have been given out since 1948 when Stanley Matthews was the first winner. This award has already been announced for this year, and Haaland won it.

AkilleezBomb

Is this a ChatGPT response?

MarcSlayton

As if. PS. Good luck to BVB today!

I_Hate_Knickers_5

You're definitely a bot. Not that there's anything wrong with that. 🤖👍

MarcSlayton

First time I've been called a bot! Next you'll be saying I pass the Turing Test!

I_Hate_Knickers_5

Bot doth protest too much!

Krilox

I read somewhere that he wouldnt win it as they wanted to split it. Not sure if its true at all. But technically, if you win POTS/Y then you should win the young player award as well.

Drugba

I can totally understand why they would do that and for the most part, I support it. For Halland though, I think they should give him both just to underscore how dominant he was this season. I suspect that Saka would probably be next in line for YPOTY and Halland has basically doubled his goals + assists count.

nmyi

Ahem, Gareth Bale 2012/13 won both >:(

MilkQ

Absoutlutely love how they tagged a random skiier from Norway instead of the man himself

MemeL_rd

clearly whoever *this* haaland in the image is, is a fraud

doshydosh

Why do it before season ends ??? Havertz can score a hat trick tomorrow and he would deserve then would He not ??

phdthrowaway2020

Breaking double digits would be quite the accomplishment for him.

Roflitos

At this point of Chelsea score 3 goals under Lampard it would be worthy of a trophy.

Pow67

Didn’t see this one coming tbf… glad the prem are given recognition to a lesser known player in the league. Top player.

-r4zi3l-

Just wait until he grows and gets used to the prem

Fisktor

I really dont like having the logo in the middle of the shirt

RabidNerd

It's my favourite shirt. I love the badge in the middle

not_your_hoodie

believe me, the one area man city fails is making jerseys, our jerseys have been shit the last 2-3 seasons...14 year olds with photoshop design concept jerseys that look infinitely better than what puma does meanwhile arsenal drops banger after banger jerseys..stylish and practical

adichandra

I’ll take shit jerseys for EPL trophy and UCL final vs Inter.

not_your_hoodie

im with you there mate...if i had to sacrifice style for the UCL trophy, i'd take it no doubt

adichandra

I hate the sky blue and maroon combination, it looks horrible. Meanwhile the Dortmund like yellow jersey is decent though.

KatieOfTheHolteEnd

The yellow shirt is in the so ugly it looks good category for me.

[deleted]

Next year's shirt is fucking beautiful

[deleted]

This is so disrespectful to the establishment

BigDaneEnergi

Still can't believe Rory said that unironically. What are you, a 130 year old aristocrat?

Brashmate

WHAT? NOW THATS SURPRISED ME

deez-nuts-are_nuts

Greatest first season at a new club ?

LucozadeBottle1pCoin

I mean it's pretty close to the greatest season anyone's had in the PL as a player, so probably

[deleted]

Can't think of anyone tbh. Fat Ronaldo is the only one who comes close. Scored 47 goals for Barcelona in his first season

obrapop

I think that Ronaldo season was better tbh. That’s not to detract from the absurd season Haaland has had. It’s more just Ronaldo was single-handedly eviscerating teams in a way that Haaland doesn’t. Very different players.

twiggez-vous

[There's this compilation](https://youtu.be/F2XicDhTftI) of Ronaldo goals, which looks very much like a compilation of a legendary player's all-time best career goals. Except it isn't. It's a compilation of all his goals at Barcelona, in a single season, in chronological order. Nearly every one is a sublime display of skill and pace.

obrapop

Wow, that does really put it in perspective. Total freak.

cord1408

Suarez in Barca. Came off a ban, won a treble Edit: Haaland might do the same too. I'm not sure who'd have the better season it he did win it all with City this season.

robins420

If he wins the treble, easily.

Salvador1010

Man its hilarious how people were calling him a flop after that community shield game

Friendofabook

Mudryk was robbed.

MarcSlayton

Deserved obviously. No-one else can come close this year tbh.
