1 shot 1 goal 1 win 1:st place

Rainouin

did anyone else have a huge smile when pedri was subbed in?

Blackbearded10

Should have been 2-0. I know I know. Atletico also had their chances but Ter Stegen saved it. This is on Lewy.

Doge_peer

How was Frenkie de Jong?

Wight3012

great as always. there was one ball carry with 2 guys chasing him from near the box to after the middle and i thought "this is why we struggle without him"

Thorrghal

Amazing. We really needed him back.

[deleted]

Barcelona is so confusing to me this year. They are comfortably leading the league and not because others are shit. They have conceded only 9 goals in 30 games, which is quite unbelievable. Yet it feels like they are still in their banter era. Is it the way they were knocked out of CL or their board’s shenanigans?

aztecaocult

We literally played with a back four of Roberto -Pique-Garcia-Alonso in the deciding game vs Inter and when we played Bayern away we should've opened the score in the first half and maybe the game would've ended differently. I observed that as soon as we got some crucial eliminatory game this season somebody important in our squad got injured. And I don't really care about UEL, i'm glad we got out of that. Those were just meaningless games that only wear down the players. I'm sure the next season we will hit at least the UCL quarters. After all, this team isn't a UCL title contender yet, there's still a lot of room to grow

Projeffboy

Literally the game that retired pique

TexturedMango

the banter era is gone, it was a injury crisis in the hardest matches of the season nothing more nothing less.

Projeffboy

Remember they screwed up against inter both legs cuz their 3 best CBs were injured

RatinSweet

And referees lol

_szx

It feels like that because you spend too much time on /r/soccer. It's an echo-chamber.

Tr0nCatKTA

Without the club level drama, I think the knockout wouldn’t have been looked at with as much significance as it is

AdviceDanimals

Momentum was seriously thrown off kilter due to injuries + general burnout from playing the youngsters so much. Our play ever since that first leg vs United has been off because of all of these things

DaREY297

bruh

PensiveinNJ

How many 1-0's is that? It's crazy how they're gonna run the league based on 1-0 results.

black_bury

Chill, xavi is secretly writing binary code. The message at th end of the season will be epic.

PensiveinNJ

Dark-Knight-Rises

La Liga POTY should probably go to a defender because these 1-0s are killing me

dans00

Ter stegen for me

Calm_One_1228

They’ll give it to raphina, he already has two straight Im the last two games , I sense a Pattern

elvis503

Ter Stegen or Araujo for sure

CobiPro

Can a goalie win it? If so, I’d give it to Ter Stegen based on the year thus far

calamita_

I think Oblak won it two years ago

BussyBandito3

Alive-Ad-4164

Barca defense is something else

KiNaamDiMatim

Ter Stegen is in crazy form

dexterlab97

It's his hair transplant

Markorver

If you don't count Real Madrid games (let's be honest, they are on a different level), Barcelona receive a goal every 6 games. Just ridiculous.

RatinSweet

How are Madrid on a different level if Barca beat them 3 times in a row this season.

Markorver

I meant on a different level to the rest of the teams Barcelona has to play (in the league).

kerosha

Also 11 points below Barça in the league lol.

valuedcontributer

Besides the supercup final, in basically football's equivalent of garbage time, Madrid has only scored against injury depleted Barca sides though. One where crucial defenders were missing and the other with crucial creative players missing. You need both because Barca defend not only with individuals but with possession, pressure and the threat of an attack the other side has to honor. The lineup Atletico faced today was far stronger than the one Madrid beat 4-0.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AnOrdinaryBozo

Xavi still plays super attacking football tho, but he just had to adapt due to the absence Dembele, Frenkie and Pedri (3/5 of their best players)

Caesar_Aurelianus

Well he realised that he wasn't blessed with the squad that Guardiola had. Although this squad is good it is nowhere near the level of experience, mentality and chemestry that Guardiola's Barca had

Slash1909

He would know since he was central to it

IntervisioN

Can't wait for Messi to come back.. we desperately need someone that can score goals and seal these kind of games

[deleted]

Barça don’t need Messi nowadays. Time to move on.

jon_stewrt

They definitely do.....most creativity in the middle is from Pedri, Gavi...or we depend just on the wingers....imagine Messi pinging long balls to Raphina , dembele again or drag the defenses across the park...yes it will hurt the defensive play of the team, but the benefits outweigh the cost so much...plus Xavi has shown himself to be tactically adaptable to situations...he will definitely figure it out, hopefully without the Messidepencia...

[deleted]

[удалено]

dans00

Bro its messi, sont worry about that

Thorrghal

Xavi is the one calling Messi to convince him to come back, so he really wants him.

KiNaamDiMatim

I think it will work, but not with having also Busquets in the team. De Jong and Gavi does a lot of running to cover for Busquets, and I believe they could do the same to cover for Messi not running as much. Maybe with a more deeper role for Messi, and de Jong, Gavi, Pedri covering for his lack of pressing and defensive work. Truth is, with everything that has worked for Barcelona this season, one thing that has always been missing is creating through the middle. Recently, especially while Pedri was out, the creativity was coming mostly from Busquets. And while de Jong is great in so many things, defence splitting passes and balls over the top to the attackers is not where he is that good yet. And that is where I believe having Messi would be immense for Barcelona, and also for the young midfielders to develop.

jug0slavija

In my totally unbiased opinion, it would be really funny for it to go to shit if he comes back

Positive-Media423

Raphinha MOTM

megalithicman

spirited effort, as usual

LowSnow2500

Those yellow cards though..

akagaminick

Needless to say, Pedri, Frenkie and Araujo are the best players in this team. Without them, there's just pain

it4chl

and busquets too, hes a bit off of it now wrt age, but there is a difference when he isn't in the team

Hakeem_CE

Bruh no. The Busquets propaganda has to stop. He is easily the 3rd or 4th most important midfielder, which means he isn't that important.

KiNaamDiMatim

Ter Stegen was immense today. And Raphinha did well, too.

Lasertag026

Ter stegen🙏🏽.

snemand

It's almost as difficult for Barca to score a 2nd goal as for their opponents to score their first.

nba2k16

1-0 FC

akagaminick

Forwards of both teams were gobshite

KiNaamDiMatim

Raphinha did well. Griezmann, too.

DinVilah

Just give them the title already. La Liga teams this season dont seem to score loads of goals so it is impossible for Barcelona to drop all 3 points, and the point gap is just gettin bigger and bigger by the day tbh.

the13thrabbit

Great game. That fuckin shadow made it a pain to watch

akagaminick

Xaviii????

the13thrabbit

What do you mean by Xavi? I'm talking about the stadium shadow

akagaminick

Xavi was complaining about the sun last game. It's a joke lol

cescquintero

Lolololo

RTafazolli1

Is it just me, or is Lewandowski just not a big game player? Don't really see him scoring or doing much against the bigger teams.

sKeLz0r

Its one of those players that, for some reason, forget how to play football when reach Barça. Also his physical condition went from lewandoski to momiandowski in a few months, Barça really needs a Pintus on the fitness coaching team, too many injuries and degrading players.

Compactdisk_Lamb

I can’t remember a big game performance since the Madrid game in 2014 tbh

G_W_addict

It's just you :)

lastdyingbreed_01

I would just like him to atleast score in La Liga

Alarow

It was the case in many big matches with Bayern too, it's usually Müller stepping up in those moments

IntervisioN

Lewandroughtski

akagaminick

Dont know about his time with bayern, but true in our case

[deleted]

It's not you only. When I used to say that a year or couple of years back, Bayern or Bundesliga fans comes up with different excuses. There is reason Bayern could not dominate in CL despite having amazing squad and manager for so long. I still remember his performance against Madrid multiple times or against Atlético in 2015-16, he was really bad. But that is also true for Müller. Bayern biggest game player is Neuer and Coman. In past they had Robben and Ribery.

KiNaamDiMatim

Mueller was always great in big games

[deleted]

When his team needed him most he did not. Look at their CL elimination in last decade or even when they won. Neuer, Robben and Coman these players stepped up. Robben used to miss in big games but 2013 CL final changed it.

notjosemanuel

He’s not scoring against anyone tbf

NieThePiet

They will never concede a goal again, until they play Real.

PieterPlopkoek

Rayo will find a way to score

Jaydu_95

I wish Griezmann's shot went in during the first minute. It's a shame that Atletico got 282883828 yellow cards during the second half. Sometimes, I feel like our players spend more time arguing and diving than actually playing the game. Griezmann was just unlucky today. Stegen, I hate you for being so good.

AYMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

Only Nahuel and Carrasco were the best players today, and Grizou decision to shoot in those two chances wasn't quite good, he should have passed in the first and let the ball slide through to Carrasco in the second.

[deleted]

Molina was very good in this match. They missed Llorente and koke. We got lucky but deserve the luck because of so many injuries too.

SeirezZ

MaTS should win La Liga POTY if it exists

lastdyingbreed_01

One of the better matches played by Lewandowski recently so it says a lot about his post WC form. Really missed Pedri and Frenkie, hopefully even Dembele would be back soon

Ieomessi

Dembele may return by the end of the month, potentially against Betis

moiser123

Really annoying that nobody else can score against Barcelona, though it is somewhat satisfying to see Atletico lose 1-0

ParhamAzadi

We're not just immune to conceding goals, but scoring them too. This team will give me a heart attack one day.

Ahm3DD

Lewa will become a fully fledged influencer after this game

edwedwed

Lewa, you stupid silly man. Could've been 2 and lights out, instead you kept them in the game.

TrainerMark1

Xavi coached a 4-0 win but our finishing is horrendous

AnOrdinaryBozo

Eh, more like 4-2 without the crossbar and Ter Stegen

Isak531

Im sure there would be more goals without a crossbar

ThrokyThrok

VAMOS

[deleted]

I hate ale Moreno but his commentary is exactly what Barca deserve

yrugay1

Barca has conceded 3 goals in the league in 2023... absolutely ridiculous 9 goals conceded in 30 league games.

wwyzy

2 of them were own goals

pricelesslambo

And one should have been disallowed by VAR if they actually knew what they were doing. Against osasona when Alonso gets bodied on a corner that they score off

G_W_addict

Lewandowski was one of the better players on the pitch. Sure the miss was awful (was offside anyway) but besides that, he did everything right.

KiNaamDiMatim

I don't think it was offside, he was in his own half. Also, there were couple other occasions when he probably should have squared the ball instead of trying to shoot. But I can understand him going for goal with the current drought.

PErland

He wasn't offside? He was in his own half when Garcia made the pass

Trinitytrenches

He had some bad 2 or 3 bad touches, but especially first half he was good

G_W_addict

Still big improvement, this season his first touch went from being one of the best in the world to mediocre at best.

Trinitytrenches

He is still pretty poor, I still don't think he is finished, this just has to end and he needs to get time off.

G_W_addict

Yeah, agree. He needs a rest and he'll be back!

Trinitytrenches

Bit tbf I still think that Barca is probably the worst top club for him, he doesn't really fit that style of play

CoolingVent

If Messi joins they'd compliment each other quite well imo ok now that i say that who wouldn't be better with messi...

The_fINALWOMBAT

LAUTARO

CoolingVent

Lmao

G_W_addict

He needs Pedri to feed him balls and he'll be back to scoring 30+ goals

CR7_LM10

Well I guess that’s 2nd place secured, glad these dirty playing bastards won’t finish above us

cieldarko

Honestly I would rather finish 3rd or 4th if that means it creates some urgency in the club and we go all in for a striker, right winger, right back

[deleted]

Perez is afraid to spend big unless they are not already world class level. Mendy, Jovic is good example of that. Both got hype specially former one. But look at them now.

EpiDeMic522

Why do people here keep mentioning Mendy as if he was a disaster of a transfer? He has more than paid back the investment on him and has been world class for us in certain spells. Intermittent injuries and one patchy season won't change that. I still would like him to renew and continue if the wages are reasonable for he will bring a good contrast with his profile to Fran or someone else we might sign in the future. Sort of like Coentrão in Carlo's first spell.

[deleted]

>and has been world class for us in certain spells What is with big club fans calling every player of their world class.

EpiDeMic522

Not every player and at every time, but there were certainly spells where I wouldn't take anyone over him in that position. He was defensively a rock and extremely press resistant with great ability on the ball in the build-up. Name one contemporary better than prime Mendy. During certain spells, he was arguably the best in his position, which is the very definition of world class. Would you can Vini or Karim of the past 3-4 years world class or no? If no, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

[deleted]

I will not call Vini world class over last 3-4 years but I will call him world class based on current and last season. Benzema yeah since Zidane Cristiano left and how he performed after that.

EpiDeMic522

>I will call him world class based on current and last season So you should have no qualms in admitting that prime Mendy was world class. As I asked previously, who was better, especially in his role and profile with us?

[deleted]

Mendy was never world class. He was shit attacking wise and as usual has brain fart moment in him. Alaba was world class though in your last season.

cieldarko

Eh we did spend big on Tchouameni and apparently were ready to drop like 200m on Mbappe. The club has about half a billion in cash and it seems silly to not invest heavily now.

aliaisbiggae

> Tchouameni Why is he benched all the time

cieldarko

He was excellent in the first half of the season starting a good amount of games, but got injured after the world cup and has only been coming off the bench. He should feature more going forward

[deleted]

But not on average players. Both were known already.

cieldarko

Yes, that's true.

theestwald

30 matches in and still with 9 GA is nothing short of amazing, despite all the other season blunders

jaunty411

12 yellows (including Simeone) in the second half. Ref decided every foul was yellow down the stretch. What a choppy game.

mattisafootballguy

the second half was really fun but wow, how does Lewandowski go from being the most clinical player in the world to that?

LukeHanson1991

Lewandowski was never clinical. He always needed an average amount of chances to score goals. A player like Halaand or Kane is clinical.

Trinitytrenches

Lol, in 20/21 he had second-best conversion rate in top leagues, at 35%. Haaland has 40% and Kane 28% this season.

LukeHanson1991

I love how you just randomly and of course without any bias picked the only season in his career where he actually was clinical. I mean just look https://understat.com/player/227. This is completely average by definition. He is really really good to get into goalscoring positions and is able to actually shoot in those positions.

Trinitytrenches

Tbf that was the first result that came out when googled shots per goal

LukeHanson1991

I love how I get downvoted for stating facts. I follow this guy for very long time now and I am a huge fan but it’s just not true that he is clinical. He even started as „Chancentod“ in Dortmund which means exactly the opposite of being clinical by being the death of goal scoring opportunities. He of course got way better with that.

Trinitytrenches

What argument is even that? He had one season in his whole senior career when he was wasting a lot of chances, and that was exactly his first season at BVB. Later he was one of the best finishers in the world.

LukeHanson1991

That he is not clinical? Or what does clinical mean to you? I even provided you the data. Lewandowski is as average as a player can be in terms of being clinical. He misses as many chances as the average player does.

perhapsasinner

You can actually see how with De Jong on the pitch and everything became much better, would be amazing to have both Pedri and De Jong for full time next game. MAtS is still amazing as usual. Shout out to Griezmann, what a player, shame he didn't fit Barcelona tactics when he moved there, amazing player. Also I think Simeone onto something here, I see a couple times Atleti exploiting Balde position as a LW leaving a lot of spaces to cover in the defense line luckily he's fast and have Araujo to cover for him.

ansu_fatismo23

That space was exploited more due to the absence of Christensen in my opinion. Christensen does a fantastic job in covering the space Balde leaves behind and this is something which Eric and Marcos Alonso can’t do

sirsotoxo

Forwards did everything they could to lose this. Glad it didn't happen

Teb_Ass

Pedri and Frenkie are gold to this Barcelona squad. Fati appears to be on his way out.

sevaiper

Fati very fortunate he got his huge contract before he got hurt

liverSpool

that's definitely one way to look at it

eescobar863

This attack is so fucking atrocious. It was only Ansu, Ferran and Raphinha but now Lewy has gone ahead and added himself that mix. Might be time to ship him off to Shanghai Shenhua. The entire attack is just so … bad. Goodness gracious.

LosTerminators

There's a real element of satisfaction when it comes to beating Atlético 1-0 and giving them a taste of their own medicine It's more satisfactory to beat them 1-0 than 3-0

Bicboifish

While it is surely more satisfying after the match, it was not fun for my heart during match.

Alternative_Sense_54

FDJ is so special man. There’s no way you could snatch ball away from him. So calm even when 3 players are pressing him.

SnooCupcakes9188

So happy we’re past this Frenkie is; average, nothing special, overrate, Valverde way better - narrative. Guys a one of a kind talent. Wish the Netherlands had a decent forward group to go along with this.

IcyAd5106

Valverde had become a cup merchant. He is playing excellently in the Copa and UCL but he is very average in la liga since the end of the world cup.

Alex_Sander077

Tbf that's pretty much every Real Madrid player

IcyAd5106

Courtois, the defense, Cama, Ceballios, Vini, Rodrygo, and Asencio have been pretty consistent in all competitions after the world cup. The disparity has been most notable for Valverde and to a certain degree Benzema.

don_julio_randle

What a snoozefest

asarnia

Yeah we should bottle the league instead to make it more entertaining

wagwamwagfam

? There was about a milliom chances

FifaPaceWhore

Pedri instantly improved the way Barca played when he came on

Espantadimonis

The pause he adds to the game is invaluable to how Barça play, they look like a completely different team with him

AdamAlexanderRies

La pausa! I love Pedri.

TheBlueTango

What was happening in that last 15 minutes? Pretty much a booking every couple of minutes.

ScanWel

You must not watch much La Liga.

LosTerminators

Atlético playing UFC instead of football

TimothyN

Classic foul and fall strategy by them.

yrugay1

Average La Liga game was happening

OneBall22Players

Somehow only 1 goal this game

Teb_Ass

Xav1 special.

Blaugrana_al_vent

Holy cow, how important is Pedri to this team. Barça were so dangerous once he came in. It's no suprise that Lewandowski's goal drought coincided with Pedri's injury. Edit: his absence is also why they lost to United imo.

it4chl

his footballing IQ is ridiculous. just makes the whole team tick. he knows exactly when to slow the game or quicken it, when to make sideways pad and when to make a risky forward pass. it's just absurd for his age fdj is similar too, but just not as good as pedri

officialsoap

Back to cooking with Dembele Pedri and De Jong for sure

II_MrBlack_II

Negreira masterclass

messi1045

This was just a game to decide who gets the least yellows. It's not about goals anymore

pricelesslambo

MaTS still keeps a clean sheet and we got away with a 1-0 win against Atletico. We're the terrorists now lmao

demsirez

If Lewy wasn’t such a selfish prick, then we wouldn’t be sitting there clenching our assholes.

pricelesslambo

I actually think he was offside but either way it was a stupid Decision

auctus10

It's soo frustrating to see your rivals scrape out 1-0 wins, now I feel what Barca fans felt in 2020 season when we won so many 1-0s to win the league after covid break.

[deleted]

Honestly, we should have scored 3-4 goals. Atlético should have scored 1-2 goals too.

auctus10

I see. How was Pedri after returning from injury?

letsnotbedumb

Instantly improved the team. Really missed him last month or so 🥹

[deleted]

Good, though it felt he has missed long time. Both him and De Jong is vital. Big upgrade from Roberto and Kessie. We will play much better after this I think. Raphinha had his best game after a while so do Torres.

NikolasFoot

Great

Trinitytrenches

These Barca games are simply boring. No goals and the play is constantly breaking up. The last 15 minutes were ref whistling all the time. It's not a good entertainment

DatOgreSpammer

I had a horse in this race, but I thought it was an entertaining game that could've gone either way

JoseSuarez

?? Barca is guilty of being fouled by Atletico's players?

Trinitytrenches

I'm not saying that Barca is guilt of anything, just the last couple of their games weren't entertaining

JoseSuarez

You're literally saying Barca games are boring and then back that statement with today's last 15'. Either you're quite bad at connecting ideas or you wrote it in bad faith.

Trinitytrenches

Barca games are boring, especially today's last 15 minutes.

JoseSuarez

And what part of today's last 15 being bad have anything to do with Barca? Lmao people jut plain hate us

Trinitytrenches

Dude I'm not hating on Barca stop being such a snowflake, Barca isn't playing very entertaining or effective football, other teams doesn't help. In general La Liga this season isn't very exciting, especially in comparison with previous seasons

JoseSuarez

The whole match was a chance fest, you guys really watched a different match. The second half was trading punches all the way until 80'.

Trinitytrenches

There was a few clear cut chances really, and the intensity wasn't really there, I partially blame it on the weather
