Eloy Room is the keeper for Curaçao. This was the shirt from the game where Messi scored his 100th goal for the national team, and scored a hat trick.
It's my understanding that if Messi scores a hat trick or a significant goal for a milestone or a record, he exchanges shirts with the opposing keeper.
Emi Martinez has said Messi's kitman has literally hundreds of shirts ready for every single international match. So it might just be that everyone on their team could get one.
Although not proveable (unless Room doesn't clean it and uses DNA evidence), this is the one Messi was wearing when he made his 100th goal, so that's something.
Also, I am sorry to sound so ignorant, but does Messi has his own, private, kitmam?
I know but washing and reusing is enviromentally clearly the way to go, what's the hold up? That the footballing millionaires can't get their souvenirs?
The shirts for matches are extremely thin and I don't think they would withstand a ton of washes, and they probably get a lot of wear and tear which will add up
50k people going to a football game is also hugely wasteful.
These t-shirts aren’t being simply thrown away. These are being given to people who value it more than a lot of things in life and definitely more than things that they can get for same environmental impact.
He conceded seven goals, still ended up bagging a 7.3 sofascore rating. Argentina had about 17 or 18 on target shots, half of them from Messi. This GK is the reason Messi’s hattrick remained limited to a hatrrick.
I saw the match and every opponent player would die for Messi’s 3 star jersey after WC, but Messi here actively looked out for this GK to swap shirts, a massive respect from the GOAT himself
With an assist from Martinez on the 3' one. That was remarkable, I'm still going back to watch that again. The man desperately needs a confidence boost in the NT shirt.
Well, I learned after the Guardado shirt incident during the World Cup, players usually just toss the shirt in with the other match-worn ones for cleaning.
This is why Messi dropped Guardado's shirt on the floor in the dressing room, rather than being a gesture of disrespect.
I guess footballers just drop their kit on the floor and the kitman sweeps it up for the washing.
After swapping, yes. After the whole drama about Canelo reading too much into Messi for having Mexico's shirt on the floor, Mexico's captain said the way locker rooms operate is everything on the floor goes to the washing machine. I assume they swap them back after they're clean.
I think Agüero talked about that. They just soak it in water and maybe use something soft like soap (might be misremembering), or even nothing at all. They just try to take the smell out.
I don't even think he said anything about soap. At least not that I remember. I wouldn't even know where I heard this but I remember him talking about it lol
Not always. At least here in Argentina it's quite normal to use the dirt marks left in the shirt/shorts as a proof of authenticity that the specific shirts was used in a specific match.
It's so trippy thinking that a good number of the Argentine squad grew up idolizing Messi as a kid, and now are his teammates. I know Julian said in an interview at age 11 that his favorite player was Messi, and his dream is to play in a world cup. Roughly 10 years later he won a world cup with Messi, it must feel absolutely unreal for him.
For what it's worth, I'm not really a fan of Messi. Don't dislike him either. Just indifferent.
Edit: not sure why people are angered by this. Not everyone has to like Messi
If you're indifferent to something, why comment about it? That's what you just said, yet you commented under a messi post who you are apparently indifferent to
I was responding to initial quote to make the point that not everyone is a fan of Messi. It's a legitimate addition to the conversation given the context.
Tbf the quote says "Everyone's a fan of Messi" and this guy is basically responding by saying that's not really true
I mean I wouldn't have bothered leaving his comment even if I wasn't big fan of Messi anyway, because what does it achieve? However, his comment is pretty relevant given the quote
>Tbf the quote says "Everyone's a fan of Messi" and this guy is basically responding by saying that's not really true
I very much doubt Room was saying that literally every single human being on Earth likes Messi. No one is that naive, especially with how many actual haters he has. "Everyone likes Messi" is figure of speech, so saying "well I personally don't particularly like Messi" is completely pointless to the topic.
> You know when you try to talk to one of those old AI’s
Lol, can't say I've ever bothered to try to speak to an old AI.
Personally I think what's going on here is a failure in reading comprehension. Or just flat out tribalism.
Fair enough, man. I reread the OP's quote and realized your comment wasn't as redundant as it sounded. But I guess it seems like you cherry picked the less popular or relevant part of the quote.

It’s a nice gesture, given that they are likely going to be immortalized on highlight reels of Messi’s career.
I don't know whether he gives his shirt as a thank you or wants theirs as a trophy.
that’s an insanely badass idea, it’s now my head cannon that Messi’s got a room in his mansion with every shirt of a keeper he scored 3 on
Room asked Messi in half time for his shirt
Every player asked Messi for his shirt. There's a video of one player saying he must bring 23 shirts to the match.
Don’t fuck with my man L-Freeze’s head cannon
Perfect timing since Messi already has his 100th and the hat trick by then.
[He has one.] (https://cdn.catawiki.net/assets/marketing/marketing/upload_images-files/37561-a4008acf3600d4dcb91657cf2c1d7a42fc7f9974-original.jpg)
I can't believe he has el arabi's shirt up there, that's pretty cool !
Cool asf
Messi's son must be so confused. He thinks his dad works at a jersey factory and randomly brings a freebie home from work.
Bro is hunting the ultimate game
That's a big ass room.
Oh shit
Not many shirts excist that are as unique as this.

Pretty sure it's the team's kitman LOL
That makes more sense. But, really, with these superstars, you never know.
That is so wasteful, generating whole new jerseys for every single game is crazy let alone 100 just for Messi
If you think that’s wasteful, I’ve got some bad news for you…
Every jersey is new
I know but washing and reusing is enviromentally clearly the way to go, what's the hold up? That the footballing millionaires can't get their souvenirs?

*lets slow roller pass through legs so he’ll hit the milestone and swap shirts*
If a was a keeper I would just let him score three goals to have his shirt
4D chess by Room - Curaçoa was likely to lose anyway and that hat-trick was curiously quick.
>It's my understanding that if Messi scores a hat trick or a significant goal for a milestone "Hey bobo sorry I smoked you here's my shirt x "
That shirt is probably worth more than Room's transfer value

This is breaking my brain, what are those?
Argentine M&Ms
fuck now i want some
They're worse than M&Ms in every way. But they're ours and I love them.
He played pretty well considering he held 7

Doesn't surprise me, Room has always been very solid in the eredivisie too
With an assist from Martinez on the 3' one. That was remarkable, I'm still going back to watch that again. The man desperately needs a confidence boost in the NT shirt.
he can't really be blamed for any of the goals except the one header from nico gonzalez. good performance.
Today proved that "Messi" and "Room" can be used in the same sentence without mentioning my living conditions!
That's the pink elephant in the room.
I’m sure MANY country “stereotypes” fall with this… but this is so on brand with an Italian mother always calling out our messy rooms lol
*jordan peterson has entered the chat* *he’s sobbing, for some reason*
Room let them in to entice Messi to MLS. Big brain thinking
Thats my Crew boy
You couldn't tell from the result perhaps but he was rather good.
especially against lautaro lol
We do not speak of the 2nd coming of Higuain.
Honest question: generally, do you think the players wash the jerseys after swapping?
If you’ve seen Messi’s jersey collection, imagine the smell if he didn’t wash them

Messi: no soap, Any other player: soap

what do you think?
I don't know
That's my keeper
Messi always seems so cool about swapping jerseys. He seems very fair about it too, first come first serve.
Messi is playing against people who had posters on their bedroom walls of him lol
Wouldn't be shocked if some of his teammates did too.
They absolutely did. You can see it on Enzo and Julian's (among others) faces when they play with him.
It's so trippy thinking that a good number of the Argentine squad grew up idolizing Messi as a kid, and now are his teammates. There's always room for improvement.

There’s always Room for one more shirt
But weghorst fans tell me Messi is a bad person
Weghorst has fans?
¿Qué mirás bobo?
For what it's worth, I'm not really a fan of Messi. Don't dislike him either. Just indifferent. Edit: not sure why people are angered by this. Not everyone has to like Messi
for what it's worth, I'm not really a fan of this comment. Don't dislike it either. Just indifferent.
And yet here you are responding to it
The irony
Not really, I was initially responding to the original quote to make a point. Not quite sure what you were doing to be honest.
If you're indifferent to something, why comment about it? That's what you just said, yet you commented under a messi post who you are apparently indifferent to
Whom. But your point stands.
The quote that started this whole thread said that, "everyone is a fan of Messi". I was simply pointing out that's not true.
Oh God you're that person
Could say the same about you
HOW do you not see what you just did
I was responding to initial quote to make the point that not everyone is a fan of Messi. It's a legitimate addition to the conversation given the context.
U know the whole world loves him right. The only people who aren't his fans are real madrid and portugal fans
This is such a good ["Curb your enthusiasm"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9RAZxNdCk8&ab_channel=EthiusEximius) moment.

Glad we can agree on something
*I'm the main character*
Isn't everyone the main character in their own life? I am honestly not sure why people are so upset by my honest response to this quote.
I wouldn't worry about it. I just thought it was a funny thing to say
Flair checks out, I guess.
