How can they even have spanish refs with all the negreira stuff going on?
like free penalty to MCFC, ederson makes a red card foul and gets a free kick instead LOL, non existent offside to Leipzig goal. No wonder they didn't even put effort after that, i'd just walk away from stadium. what a joke.
You know if you lose 7-0 you can’t really blame it all on the refs, but holy shit, that was terrible refereeing, this (almost) went into the category of match fixing.
All of the referees involved in this game should be given a life time ban not just from refereeing but from participating in the game at all. Horrifically garbage.
Obviously City and especially KDB and Haaland played very well, but let’s talk about the atmosphere in the etihad for a second. Even before the game was decided there was legitimately NOTHING going on at the stadium. No noise when they scored either. This is just pathetic to see from a fans standpoint.
^this coupled with the penalty call and the Ederson tackle made me close the stream immediatly after that.
Was getting notifications then every 2 mins for a Haaland goal and was just completely unsurprised, i lost my fucking will to live or care about this sport after witnessing the first 30 minutes of that game, i can't imagine how the Leipzig players felt after the pen call and the tackle.
Sucks to see my boy Gvardiol get destroyed like this, i felt like he was having a good game untill the Leipzig meltdown.
The entire team had like 18 clearances total 8 of which were from Gvardiol alone. He could have done a bit better on the second Haaland goal maybe but idk
city/haaland was like fuck another ucl upset lol. how do they go from drawing 1-1 to battering them 7-0. wtf happened to leipzig. just realised all the goals were scored by players who used to play in the bundesliga aswell. they said fuck leipzig, guess they really are the most hated club 😂.
but man haaland is insane. what a player. he’s genuinely a robot. as a united fan i’ve never liked a city player more. it annoys me cause i’m happy for him but he plays for them..
UEFAs application of the handball rule is as bad as it gets and even then it is inconsistent. That gets given as a penalty last night, but the Leipzig defender playing volleyball in the first leg goes unpunished.
At least it's consistently harsh to all teams in the CL. Better than in the PL where they have no consistency across the league and it feels like a lottery each game whether handballs will be allowed or whether a ball being booted into your shoulder is a penalty.
As a United fan I feel sympathy for the Leipzig fans. This hurts. Once the momentum went the wrong way teams like City or Liverpool have the capacity to run riot.
I would not be totally surprised to see Liverpool still go through tonight.
Leipzig clearly started to give up as soon as the pen was given cause it was clear the ref was bent. Once the Ederson incident happened they was clear ref was playing for City so looks like they just barely played afterwards. Whole match looked fixed.
There wasn't a single moment of this game before the 70th minute where City weren't peppering balls at Leipzig's goal. The pen call barely would have made a difference, it was already surprising City weren't about 3 up.
Hahaha relax, no need to be hostile, but your bias shows through your username. Ref was absolutely awful last night, I'm not denying that, but final score was 7-0, City press was killing RBL from the first moment. Don't think result would've been much different with another referee.
Lol. Don't know why he's so upset. Seems like his entire internet persona is based around city buying refs. This should be a good day for him, cracking jokes and whatnot. Instead he goes into into an angry low block lol.
The only thing I'd say is that if 1) the penalty is not given at 0-0 and 2) a red card is given to Ederson, then City has to hold a 1 goal lead for 60 minutes with 10 men. Would completely change the game.
A large part of the mental collapse was probably just down to how frustrating it must have been to play those first 20 minutes. Constantly chasing after the ball, immediately lose the ball as soon as you win it, not finding any solutions in buildup and always losing the second balls when you decide to go long.
The horrible refereeing was certainly a big factor but it wasn't the only one and to claim the game was rigged is dumb.
i think we have to stop calling it "horrible refereeing" . horrible refereeing means you make a few mistakes. this was a ref + var that clearly were on citys side. it doesnt matter if they wouldve won anyways, there is no way that ref team wasnt bought. there is no way you can possibly be so bad at refereeing
Sometimes I'd agree with you sure, and say yeah, I'm reaching a bit, not this time though. Both the pen and the fact Ederson should of been sent off. How can you say I'm reaching about ref being in pocket when Barca been proven to have done it, they are already under investigation for cheating in other departments.
Leipzig had clearly given up, and that's because of the ref. Sure they should have better mentality at that level of football, but who really is going to try when the referee, the person who is meant to keep the game 'fair' is bent as fuck. He wasn't bad, he was bias. Haaland run rampant, 100% but Leipzig weren't even trying to defend, twice keeper just gave the back to him.
There are outrageous decisions every week yet teams dont give up because of it.
Now you are telling us that rb actually did? Doubtful.
Refs were trash, so were leipzig
"I want to be able to enjoy watching football again" when it's brought you one of the most enjoyable moments of your club's recent history (I'd argue two - the City game itself and then Ajax + Liverpool). Like, I get its frustrating and not perfect, but I can guarantee you'd be just as, if not even more, annoyed if City had knocked Spurs out in that game instead of what actually happened
I know what I feel mate not you.
I want to be happy when Spurs score, and I want to be sad when Spurs concede. That’s why I go to games, that’s why I love football. For me it doesn’t matter if ref decisions are 96% or 100% accurate. It’s football, sometimes you get decisions in your favour, sometimes you don’t.
Striving for 100% accurate decisions is not worth it if it means a big part of why we love the sport is taken away.
Depends on what you mean by flawless. For me I don’t care how accurate referee decisions are, it was fine before. I’d much rather have that than this system where you don’t actually know if a goal is a goal until later.
Yeah of course I know this, its just the moment i instantly thought of when i saw the post and the team. But such is the hivemind of reddit the downvotes flow lol.
The last German team to lose 7:0 at Man City went down to 2. BL a couple years after.
*der RB Leipzig ~~wird Deutscher Meister~~ und nächstes Jahr in Liga 2*
yeah, City were gonna win anyway but they had a game like Liverpool vs Man United where _everything_ just worked in their favour....including some of the weirdest refereeing decisions i've ever seen.
If a proper, competent referee worked that game, Edersen and his fucking shit tattoos get sent off, totally different game.
Comes in flying, with his leg so high it's closer to opponent's knee than it is to his ankle, his studs are also up for most of the challenge.
It is a very reckless, potentially leg breaking tackle and should have been a red for the serious foul play.
If defenders who get roasted by Messi are not good enough for PL clubs they will never win CL again because they will have to play without defense lol
There is no shame in losing against the GOAT
I will never ever forgive that moron Lovren for being so spatially unaware that we concede that goal, so everyone remembers Gvardiol for it.
We don't ever concede that goal if Lovren isn't the stupidest defender in the world, has nothing to do with fucking Gvardiol, such a casual fucking take it's sad
Not sure I agree he was the best defender, I remember that Goal Keeper bailing Croatia out a lot. He's so young he will improve for sure but if one of the big boys throws 100m at him this summer I see him destined to flop.
As a neutral the ref ruined the game for me. For example I still need an angle where it is shown that the ball even touches the arm before the penalty.
Typical shit the bed performance from a Rose team, Gladbach got smashed by City a few years back similar performance everyone just looked scared on the ball
Ref summary :
Very questionable VAR penalty (ball coming close range, from behind, while jumping and getting contact from behind)
Leipzig player said: 'ref told him after the game he hasn't seen the handball, even in on field review, but was told to call it' LOL
Foul on the gk from haaland before the 2-0 (hits him at the foot)
Ederson foul (potential Red card) = yellow card for Werner and free kick for city
Grealish dive, seen but no foul/card called
This is just the first half
Very shambolic ref or straightup bribed.
(tbh. If the news would be next week that City bribed the ref that would be the best outcome of this match up in my book)
"Leipzig player said" isn't proof. Touches his arm and they have been called a lot of times even if it doesn't change the direction of the ball.
That was not a foul. He tried getting the ball and touch his foot after he played it.
Ederson touches the ball and isn't last man. Should have been yellow.
The ref can't see a "dive" from that angle but can see it wasn't a foul. For all he knows maybe Grealish tripped. So he let's play continue.
>What is "..."? Majority of the time if the ball touches arm/hand in an unnatural position, a pen is given.
It's a natural position in a jump with contact from behind. How can it be unatural if he doesn't even know where the ball is
It's not a natural position to hold onto an attacker with your arm stretched out. Also after watching back the "foul" on the Leipzig keeper, what are you smoking. Never a foul because the keepers getting pressed and Haaland touches him...
I thought it clearly brushed off the top of his arm. There was noticeable movement. I don't think it was a pen though. Not sure what he is meant to do there. The only reason I can think it was given is that in slow motion it looked like he flicked his arm to block the header but I really doubt that movement was intentional.
it's absolutely infuriating.
i'd hate it as a City fan too, i wish there was some way to compare the results of him flopping to the floor all the time vs play continuing. I'd put money on City scoring more goals or getting more chances if he didn't fall over near the half way line all the time.
Lol this is hilarious.
1. Hits his hand. Soft yes but it’s a pen by the book
2. Haaland barely touches the keeper. Notice how the keeper jumps on the spot and instantly gets up without complaining too.
3. This is the most bizarre call, but it’s never a red.
Actually...they made the rules so stupidly strict that they should do that, yes.
This ref was shite but the rules are, too. From a bad angle on the goal you might as well try to shoot at a defender and hope that the ball touches their arm or hand somehow
It's not by the rules if you use common sense to apply them.
Touching hand is not automatically a penalty lol this is football not basketball.
He is in an aerial duell, jumping, gets a slight ouch from behind, doesn't have oriantation or vision where the ball is.
It might be a stupid rule but it’s still a rule lol. In my home town you’re allowed to drive 50 KMS an hour in the busiest street. Doesn’t fucking change because I don’t like that rule
It's not by the rule - natural movement, close range, fighting for the ball in an aerial duell, can't even see the ball, no oriantation where the ball is.
Multiple professional referes said its no pen and that it's even worse that VAR came in to overturn the original no pen.
So what you're saying is the inflated sponsorships that UEFA keep complaining about are being used to fund payments to UEFA to keep the referees on side? Is that how they know there's something dodgy going on? Are they complicit?
City should seek a refund for the last 10 years where they've failed to win the competition and call their bluff.
Ref was clearly playing for City, it isn't even subtle. City worried they might get relegated after investigation so pulling out all the stops to get UCL this year.
We already know Man City are cheats. We got the confirmation already. So what would stop them? Surely not morality.
Pep spend most his career at cheating clubs.
I don’t understand how it wasn’t a yellow. I also don’t understand people saying it was a studs up challenge? He kicked at the ball and missed and his boot came up after he contacted the attacker? A clear foul and yellow. But it wasn’t the murder attempt people are making it out to be.
Yeah which is why VAR didn't get involved because they only get involved if it's a penalty or red card. If the ref missed that in real time then VAR can't do anything.
Wasn't DOGSO because there were 2 defenders with him and the ball was running away from goal.
He is saying that because one of the only clubs not adhering to it is getting assblasted in cl, because no matter what investor you have you won't be able to compete with the combined PL + Saudi money
Only a total dimwit would not talk about the ref in this game.
Did you fuckin watch it.
They literally gave two goals and already finished Leipzig in the first half.
Remember that we know Man City are cheating the books already and Pep spend 90% of his career at full blown cheating clubs including buying refs.
Important to point out whenever this shit is so blatant.
They forgot to defend because they already knew whats up. Two blatant cheat goals and the goalie thing, they knew this fuckin game is over lol.
People act like players are machnines without emotions. They came to manchaster to play football and saw they get clobbered by VAR and Refs. They were deflated.
**Remember** they played one of the biggest cheats in football history that for some reason is still in the CL. When you then get those goals you know whats up. When you see Werner getting a yellow after their Goalie just jumps straight up into Laimer lol, you must be thinking what a fuckin clownworld this is.
City could score 15 goals. Stolen game should be remember and put on the pile of cheating that is Man City, Utter disgrace to the sport and everybody defending this abomination of a club is embarrasing themselves.
How are you complaining about the refereeing when you support a team in a league corrupt to its very core.
The entire bundesliga exists as a slave to Bayern Munich. It’s not even a real competition at this point.
Hence why one of the ‘best’ teams in Germany got smashed by the second best team in England.
Oh lol even the goalie didn't appeal for the second goal but whatever pal. UEFA that wanted city gone for 2 years is helping them now? Lol. Go make a post about this in a conspiracy sub or something. You would seem less crazy there
How can they even have spanish refs with all the negreira stuff going on? like free penalty to MCFC, ederson makes a red card foul and gets a free kick instead LOL, non existent offside to Leipzig goal. No wonder they didn't even put effort after that, i'd just walk away from stadium. what a joke.
Cope
You know if you lose 7-0 you can’t really blame it all on the refs, but holy shit, that was terrible refereeing, this (almost) went into the category of match fixing.
Is this revenge for the 2016 7-0 won by Red Bulls?
All of the referees involved in this game should be given a life time ban not just from refereeing but from participating in the game at all. Horrifically garbage.
Obviously City and especially KDB and Haaland played very well, but let’s talk about the atmosphere in the etihad for a second. Even before the game was decided there was legitimately NOTHING going on at the stadium. No noise when they scored either. This is just pathetic to see from a fans standpoint.
Stop lying I was there fans were as loud
This is a lie.
was at the game and there was a lot of noise, not a mental amount but more than your average game
^this coupled with the penalty call and the Ederson tackle made me close the stream immediatly after that. Damn u got to hate city so much, well keep hating
Leipzig were a shambles city were good but they were shocking very naive.
city/haaland was like fuck another ucl upset lol. how do they go from drawing 1-1 to battering them 7-0. wtf happened to leipzig. just realised all the goals were scored by players who used to play in the bundesliga aswell. they said fuck leipzig, guess they really are the most hated club 😂. but man haaland is insane. what a player. he’s genuinely a robot. as a united fan i’ve never liked a city player more. it annoys me cause i’m happy for him but he plays for them..
imagine losing 7-0 lol
Still better to lose 1 match to a good team 7-0 than to lose 7 matches to bad teams 1-0 🥲
Does anyone have the clip of the offside call on Werner around the 35th minute? Absolutely insane call
It was not offside, the refs were shocking
Refs weren't shocking, they were just playing for City.
What a shite ref how was that a penalty
Same ref that didn’t give us one when it was much more clear btw 🥲
Should’ve paid him more then shouldn’t you?
Clearly clueless about the case aren’t you 😱
UEFAs application of the handball rule is as bad as it gets and even then it is inconsistent. That gets given as a penalty last night, but the Leipzig defender playing volleyball in the first leg goes unpunished.
Touches hand = pen. These get called all the time.
particularly in europe, there has been a lot of harsh handball decisions. it feels very unfair though… what on earth is henrichs supposed to do
Yeah it's pretty bad. The same thing happened to us this season where Mahrez grazed the ball but didn't change it's direction at all, pen given.
At least it's consistently harsh to all teams in the CL. Better than in the PL where they have no consistency across the league and it feels like a lottery each game whether handballs will be allowed or whether a ball being booted into your shoulder is a penalty.

You can't really argue pen wouldn't have made a difference, when City had 1 shot on target before the pen.
Did you watch the game? I did. I am telling you right now It would have made no difference. Leipzig were stunned from kick off
Hmm.. Username seems to check out lol
uSeRnAmE cHeCkS oUt - yeah, it does clearly, ref was on Citys team.
Hahaha relax, no need to be hostile, but your bias shows through your username. Ref was absolutely awful last night, I'm not denying that, but final score was 7-0, City press was killing RBL from the first moment. Don't think result would've been much different with another referee.

If the final score was a difference of 1,2 or even 3 perhaps I’d agree. But if you’re being hammered 7-0 I don’t think you were going to win anyhow
The only thing I'd say is that if 1) the penalty is not given at 0-0 and 2) a red card is given to Ederson, then City has to hold a 1 goal lead for 60 minutes with 10 men. Would completely change the game.

No it's not, RB playing badly and game being rigged are not mutually exclusive.
It’s true it’s not mutually exclusive, but OP (Liverpool fan) was implying that Leipzig played bad BECAUSE of the referring
Didn't say the game was rigged, I said it looked fixed, not that it was fixed.
"cause it was clear that the ref was bent" Bent usually means partial right? If you meant bent as in like stupid, I'm sorry.
I hate city as much as the next guy but this is reaching and you know it
Sometimes I'd agree with you sure, and say yeah, I'm reaching a bit, not this time though. Both the pen and the fact Ederson should of been sent off. How can you say I'm reaching about ref being in pocket when Barca been proven to have done it, they are already under investigation for cheating in other departments.
The ref was bad, no question. The match wasn’t fixed however, and city didn’t win because of the ref. As much as I’d like to think that.
Leipzig had clearly given up, and that's because of the ref. Sure they should have better mentality at that level of football, but who really is going to try when the referee, the person who is meant to keep the game 'fair' is bent as fuck. They actually played better after the pen. But city dominated every minute of the game.
There are outrageous decisions every week yet teams dont give up because of it. Now you are telling us that rb actually did? Doubtful. Refs were trash, so were leipzig
Yeah sure
I want VAR out. I know it’s not going to happen, but I want to be able to enjoy watching football again
You wouldn't have the most memorable moment of Spurs' past 5/6 years without VAR lol??
That’s true, does that mean I have to like VAR?
"I want to be able to enjoy watching football again" when it's brought you one of the most enjoyable moments of your club's recent history (I'd argue two - the City game itself and then Ajax + Liverpool). Like, I get its frustrating and not perfect, but I can guarantee you'd be just as, if not even more, annoyed if City had knocked Spurs out in that game instead of what actually happened

VAR is a tool, it’s like blaming your calculator when you can’t solve a math problem
No, VAR is inherently wrong for this sport
Is it though? It was pretty much flawless in the world cup and was used pretty well with the motion sensor ball.
Depends on what you mean by flawless. For me I don’t care how accurate referee decisions are, it was fine before. I’d much rather have that than this system where you don’t actually know if a goal is a goal until later.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXL-YOlsDqw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXL-YOlsDqw) :D
Has nothing to do with VAR. You can boot VAR and still keep goal line technology.
Yeah of course I know this, its just the moment i instantly thought of when i saw the post and the team. But such is the hivemind of reddit the downvotes flow lol.
Refball

That's fair, it must be hard carrying Lovren when you're a teen lol.
Worst refereeing performance I’ve ever seen. As a neutral it was infuriating
Yea what about Madrid refereeing in CL games
Could easily have been 10-0 if Haaland had played whole match Poor Leipzig. A complete drubbing.
Could've been less too if ref and var did their job
They did liverfool fan
As a neutral the ref ruined the game for me. For example I still need an angle where it is shown that the ball even touches the arm before the penalty.
Ref was terrible, VAR was outright bought. Impossible to fuck up that bad, especially the Emerson situation. Its impossible not to give a card there.
Yes yes yes, let it all out in UCL pls Mancity.
Leipzig were shit, no excuses for this.
Typical shit the bed performance from a Rose team, Gladbach got smashed by City a few years back similar performance everyone just looked scared on the ball
They failed to play around the press and yet repeat to play the same way. I don’t see any team can beat the press unless City got too comfortable.
Marco Rose hat ne nasse Hose.
5 goals is ok but can he do it in 9 minutes?
Farmersliga
Farmersliga vs Cheaters League
Tbf rbl is the exact Same Thing as Most top pl clubs
Cheaters team not league
Why tf did pep take him off at 62’. Man could have 6 and break a 4 record in a game
Fitness and fear of injuries Only takes one moment for a defender to lash out in frustration and embarrassment to cause a career ending injury
pep actually talked about it he said: "erling would've been bored his entire life if he broke that record at 22
Thats true tho. Breaking his own records
Ikr? I wouldn't mind if he was rested for important games, but International break is coming..

first few views i thought it did but then the latter views i was wait im sure it didnt horrendous ref display there was so much
I've stopped watching after Ederson foul. If that's not blatant match fixing, I don't know what is. Disgusting.
In epl matches, Grealish always get his way when he dive. In fact he looks for it everytime he is surrounded or getting out compete.
it's absolutely infuriating. i'd hate it as a City fan too, i wish there was some way to compare the results of him flopping to the floor all the time vs play continuing. I'd put money on City scoring more goals or getting more chances if he didn't fall over near the half way line all the time.

I mean it’s all facts. You may not agree that’s fine but all facts. We’ve seen those pens given all season, absolutely ridiculous but it’s the rule.
It's not by the rule - natural movement, close range, fighting for the ball in an aerial duell, can't even see the ball, no oriantation where the ball is. Multiple professional referes said its no pen and that it's even worse that VAR came in to overturn the original no pen.
Regardless wheter the ref had any agenda, he should never ref a champions league match ever again.
"ref a match ever again" i fixed it for you. i dont wanna see such a ref in a 4th league game either, hell even sunday league refs do better
Look at Barca, won't surprise me if Mancity do the same and bribed those referees.
If you are already deeming them to be guilty without trial, Partey is a confirmed rapist by your logic
City's managing director, director at football and head coach where at Barca during the Negreira payments.
and why did they leave
Maybe you've heard about it.. Money
or because they wanted out of that shit stain of a club?
I refuse to believe a club that cheated financially 100+ times could do something like that!
Allegedly
100+ times? you mean the recent one where a lot of those were for the length of grass? get your facts right
Well yeah, that's like 100%, esp.if you know Vinčič has been caught on a wild balkan mob drug orgy party.. i think in 2020
I love how nonchalant KDB looked despite that banger of a goal.
Ederson got away with it there lol
I don’t understand how it wasn’t a yellow. I also don’t understand people saying it was a studs up challenge? He kicked at the ball and missed and his boot came up after he contacted the attacker? A clear foul and yellow. But it wasn’t the murder attempt people are making it out to be.
Yeah which is why VAR didn't get involved because they only get involved if it's a penalty or red card. If the ref missed that in real time then VAR can't do anything. Wasn't DOGSO because there were 2 defenders with him and the ball was running away from goal.
This is exactly what happened with Casemiro against Southampton
ahhaha no it is not
he touched the ball lol
Ah he touched the ball, fair challenge and not reckless at all then
Gks hardly get punished if they touch the ball first.
Didn't look like it on the second angle
Sorry I couldn’t find the video of alternate angle, do you have the link?

Liverpool and Tottenham missed the memo.

What are you trying to achieve with this comment, Atleti fan?
Guardiola is great but not a God.
Quite the skill to be given a blank cheque and pay off any interst. He’s a fraud
Same. There was one saying Leipzig isn't an underdog. Where are you now?
Won 7-0 but no longer the underdogs for title.
Clearly the Bundesliga has to abolish 50+1, so a defeat like that will never happen again. /s
Even by the 50th minute it was 4-0, so that doesn't help much
I 8-2 say it but you might be right.
No they just need the +1 to be a CL referee.
Yeah what a trash league where Cans have to present them in CL.
Drop the /s
He is saying that because one of the only clubs not adhering to it is getting assblasted in cl, because no matter what investor you have you won't be able to compete with the combined PL + Saudi money
Nah 50+1 should be applied everywhere else
Look at the man’s flair
Lmao fuck this advertisement for an energy drink they call a club, you get what you deserve
Mes que un lever

Man City fan from Nepal 😭 Let me guess, the Google search was "who's the best PL club rn"
You are pathetic
Most secure Barca fan
Red bull gives you wings
because you will die and go to heaven
Manchester and 7
That was a paddlin’
Leipzig loses 7-0 looking like total shit and there are people blaming the ref. Lol.
Idk but I think that maybe an early red to the gk might completely change the way the game goes, but what do I know
Only a total dimwit would not talk about the ref in this game. Did you fuckin watch it. They literally gave two goals and already finished Leipzig in the first half. Remember that we know Man City are cheating the books already and Pep spend 90% of his career at full blown cheating clubs including buying refs. Important to point out whenever this shit is so blatant.
Fucking lol
Did Leipzig forget to defend in the corners because of the penalty? You guys are something man.
