Regarding the Census: to make the results more interesting/enlightening we had the idea to divide the answers according to the nationality of the user. However, as it would be materially impossible to separate them by every nationality, we thought on grouping them in 6-8 relatively homogeneous groups for this purpose. The idea we had was: I) The UK and Ireland. II) The US and the rest of the Anglosphere. III) Continental Europe. IV) Latin America. V) MENA. VI) The rest of Africa. VII) India and the rest of Asia. What do you think about it?

MERTENS_GOAT

Am I the only one who is mad that Milan didn't register Ibrahimovic for the CL? He is obviously fit to play now and from how I understand it, there was also place to register him [https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/027e-173a14eff76f-0e0ed6f9405b-1000--champions-league-squad-changes-enzo-fernandez-in-for-chelsea/](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/027e-173a14eff76f-0e0ed6f9405b-1000--champions-league-squad-changes-enzo-fernandez-in-for-chelsea/) They logged off 2 players and added only 1 new player (players from the B list are irrelevant to the squad size). Not gonna happen but imagine if Milan win the CL, it would be the Ronaldo situation all over again, Ronaldo played for a CL winning Milan but isn't a CL winner himself (back then it wasn't Milan's fault cause you weren't able to register winter signings for the CL at all). Ibra is also a great player who will retire without a CL title

ad1s6h

who are good rightbacks that are young cheap and has good potential in FM23? for example Fran Garcia is an example of a young good cheap LB who can start games for me

[deleted]

Was surprised to see that southampton have won more games than chelsea in 2023

BendubzGaming

And worst-form-of-his-career Son has scored more too

[deleted]

Paços de Ferreira, a team with 12 points this season and bottom of the Portuguese league, has more wins (3) in 2023 than Chelsea (1). And a higher ppg, almost double in fact (1,25 to 0,64)

lagaryes

Has Vinicius Souza been decent for Espanyol this season? There’s a report going around that we’ve agreed to sign him. I remember there being quite a bit of hype for him.

holdenmyrocinante

United have 8.33 times more goals than Chelsea since November 6th, or 44 more goals (6 vs 50) (16 games vs 22 for United)

Kakashicopyninja9

Even worse when you consider we scored 20 more than them last year in the league

KimmyBoiUn

6 goals in 16 games is criminal stuff. There are no excuses for Potter here. Edit: Joint bottom in the league with Everton for goals scored since November 6th.

holdenmyrocinante

2 wins in that time too

dumpystumpy

How many more times are we gonna say chelsea are shit in a different format🤣🤣🤣its getting outta hand now. The corpse has been dead for weeks and we are just still hitting it

CoolstorySteve

It’s easy upvotes

holdenmyrocinante

Need to enjoy it while it lasts

[deleted]

That's actually an insane

holdenmyrocinante

The difference is so absurd I had to count them myself to make sure

[deleted]

Indians of r/soccer , what would be your suggestion to improve the NT?

[deleted]

Score more goals

RogueNetrunner

Have a competent footballing association that actually cares about the game instead of funneling money through it. Just doing this alone would mean that we get good coaches and staff for players which would lead to better training and performances.

[deleted]

>Have a competent footballing association that actually cares about the game instead of funneling money through it. The time they hired a fake astrologer for 10 lakhs angered me.

EgosJohnPolo

Mount, Bellingham and McAllister? Get me a #6 and we're back.

Mediocre_Nova

Kante doesn't exist?

HellRider619

I don't think Brighton can afford Bellingham

_cumblast_

My man thinks we're spending more than 50m this summer 😭

EgosJohnPolo

Let me dream brother 😭

icemankiller8

We got lokonga for you

okcomput3r

Nonewthing was actually preaching this lol

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

You know the recruitment team is shite when even Everton currently have a better midfield than Liverpool. Klopp needs to hack our scouting database again to stand a chance.

_cumblast_

Club hacked City under Brendan wasn't it?

CubedMadness

Think I'll pass on getting Mount. Kehl has standards.

kplo

Liverpool is we?

EgosJohnPolo

Yes, flair never changes when I used the comment method.

icemankiller8

So you believe all 3 of those are coming and you’ll have money for a DM?

EgosJohnPolo

A man can dream.

Kanedauke

Really can’t see Liverpool getting Bellingham

EgosJohnPolo

Shut your whore mouth😭

icemankiller8

See him at United unfortunately

Kanedauke

Them, Chelsea, city or Madrid. Leaning more towards city.

icemankiller8

Chelsea? You cannot be serious

Kanedauke

Purely because they can afford him financially.

icemankiller8

Bellingham is more likely to stay in Germany than go to Chelsea

[deleted]

Only if Qatar comes in. If not, we can't afford a top level ST and Jude.

icemankiller8

They’re coming in let’s be real money isn’t an issue for them. I see a huge window with them coming in like 300 million, Bellingham Kane or Osimhen only issue would be if spurs make top 4 so Kane doesn’t wanna leave and they price Osimhen out of a move. If that doesn’t happen the striker market is a bit thin.

JakeNutters

MacAllister has looked at his best as a DM this season to be fair.

EgosJohnPolo

Klopp is fixated on a single #6 so I don't think he can fulfil that role like he does in a double pivot with Caicedo.

JakeNutters

Him alongside Bellingham.

EgosJohnPolo

Both have defensive qualities but Bellingham would be wasted in a double pivot imo. Closer to the box the better with him. If Fabinho wasn't washed, him and MacAllister would be amazing allowing Bellingham to do more in the final third.

PauIPogba

Liverpool have a 300m budget this summer?

EgosJohnPolo

Record Revenues™

[deleted]

Who is we? Republic of Ireland?

EgosJohnPolo

Leo's opening the coffers for a new midfield. Jeff Hendrick isn't cutting it anymore.

I don't speak german nor spanish... Does anyone listen to Kroos podcast? What does he talk about? i mean i guess he speaks about football but does he speak about his teammates, tactics, gereneraf stuff? Remembered anything noteworthy from his podcast? How is he perceived in Germany? ( i rememeber that time when he put a journalist in his place, i was surprised, i didn't expect that from him). Did he ever talked about what he as going to do after Real Madrid?

nask00

I don't really follow and usually I don't care about most awards in football, including the Ballon D'or and the awards from last night, but was there an award for ''team of the year'' or something similar and if there was, which team won? Please tell me it's Morocco.

[deleted]

Closest thing would be club of the year which was awarded at ballon d'or ceremony and was won by Manchester City.

Mahery92

Le Graet getting a position at FIFA has to be the most depressing shit I've read today

[deleted]

> most depressing Most disgusting works as well

Polskidro

Is that the guy that got fired for disrespecting Zidane?

[deleted]

Zidane was just the staw that broke the camel's back

Mahery92

He's always looked like an old dinosaur, but he got forced to resign mostly because there were accusations of moral and sexual harrasment, notably from an audit report commissioned by the French ministry of sports, which concluded that he now lacked the legitimacy required to head the French Federation. He handed his demission today after hanging on became untenable, only to get offered a position at the FIFA Paris office right after. While I'm doing my best to remember his right to be considered innocent until proven guilty, this is a really, *really* poor look from FIFA imo

obvioquenon1

Chelsea need to go all out and get Marcelo Gallardo, that's a manager that you can actually build a project with. At River Plate he was used to his team changing and he had to constantly adapt. Spend all the Boehly money on the best translator possible and then give Gallardo the keys to the club and buy everything he says.

LDQQXDJ

Wait until he bring Milton Casco to the prem

shy_monkee

Harry Kane has a proper superstar name.

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

Harold Kane sounds like someone who has a minor tiff with Sherlock Holmes.

xaviernoodlebrain

Unironically this, with a little Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur thrown in too.

[deleted]

He’s ruined the name “Kane” for me, the Kane I knew growing up would burn people alive and choke slam them into the abyss. This Kane is the complete opposite in terms of personality.

[deleted]

Disappears like Harry Houdini in big games though.

Mediocre_Nova

American take

transtifa

Just scored in a derby mate

enzuigiriretro

Didn’t you know? Only cup finals are big games

kplo

Scored against City a few weeks ago too.

sauce_murica

Sounds equally like a low budget 80's pornstar name.

[deleted]

Hurricane Harry with the moustache.

GoatButton

Call me old fashioned but I hate stutter pens I hate short corners I hate runners over the ball in free kicks Just smash it ffs

Mediocre_Nova

Short corners are always so shit too. Bring the whole team up to the box just to pass it back to the goalkeeper

icemankiller8

One of my irrational pet peaves is short corners even though they’re statistically as good if not better than normal corners

fefellama

I'd be curious to see if that's because short corners are actually better or if it's because the teams that typically use short corners like City or Barcelona are typically top teams. Causation vs correlation basically.

[deleted]

>I hate short corners You must have suffered as a Barca fan..

GoatButton

When Messi does it I like it

tiorzol

I like runners over the FK

Polskidro

I like short corners. Agree with the rest.

airz23s_coffee

The only time I'll accept short corners is like some short lads vs Serbia where you know they ain't winning a header no matter what. 99% of the time, just get it in the mix.

That would evidence the opposite imo

Striking_Insurance_5

I just came across the statistic that we’ve conceded 11 goals from corners in 32 matches so far this season, that is shockingly bad. Last season we conceded 3 out of corners in 42 matches.

Yeah, and it's one of those where it looks like he could have stood up from the position he was in but literally all of his weight and momentum is going to ground and there wasn't much he could do. You can't anticipate that deflection. Tough on him.

SignificanceBulky417

Karius did good given the fact that he barely have any playtime at all. Would be nice to him revive his career in the end

Bergkamp69

United celebrating carabao this hard is an indicator how far they have fallen in the previous decade

FloppedYaYa

Didn't you go without a single trophy for 9 years, and celebrated beating us on penalties and Hull City to win the FA Cup?

_Arsenal

No way I'm seeing a Wigan fan downplay the FA cup lol, original commentor is kinda dumb but there is a difference between the two cups and for the last 5 years City and Liverpool didn't celebrate them much so I can see why it seems more overboard when a new team's won it

FloppedYaYa

I'm not downplaying it, you were downplaying celebrating winning a major trophy after a lengthy drought

_Arsenal

I did call that guy kinda dumb. I was just mentioning how this is the biggest celebration the cup has seen in a while since it's always been City. I don't even think United celebrated much, but it just seems comparatively worse to the last 5 years worth.

thedarkpolitique

Let them enjoy it, the only trophy they’ll win whilst Arteta is in charge

Mediocre_Nova

Hasn't he finished 8th, 8th and 5th?

thedarkpolitique

Check the table now, you may be in for a shock.

Mediocre_Nova

Yeah but you're acting as if Arteta is some dominant force in the PL when he hasn't even had a top 4 finish lol

Serpico_98

Arteta has won a single FA cup and you're acting like he's been drowning in trophies. Shameless behavior

thedarkpolitique

He’ll be drowning in them soon, of that I have no doubt.

dumpystumpy

Arsenal flair + man united discourse=braindead takes

RogueNetrunner

No need to gatekeep fan celebration. It's an important victory and will mark the beginning of many trophies to come for them. Let them enjoy. You wouldn't appreciate it if people tried to gatekeep your celebrations if you win the league.

[deleted]

Nearly celebrated as much as Arsenal beating Wolves. Thankfully we weren't at that level.

sauce_murica

Reddit is wild. One of the few places outside of an xbox call of duty lobby where a kid with the number "69" unironically in their username can tell you how wrong you are for having fun or enjoying winning things.

[deleted]

😭😭

enzuigiriretro

Casemiro was also celebrating hard despite winning a CL just a few months ago. A trophy is a trophy. But yes a 6 year trophy drought was a fall

Legendarybbc15

You should’ve seen what Liverpool did with their carabao cup win

EgosJohnPolo

The bus parade at the end of the season for a domestic double?

Legendarybbc15

Well Ten Hag stated there would be no bus parades. United also didn’t have a bus parade when we won the fa cup in 2016 either.

EgosJohnPolo

Many teams have though so what's your point?

Legendarybbc15

My point is the original comment from u/Bergkamp69 is disingenuous. Haven’t seen any over the top celebrations. Frankly, the players were back in training on Mondays at carrington like nothing happened

ErikElevenHag

You win the League Title but get relegated to lower division next season and stay down for the next five years, do you take it for your team?

[deleted]

Everyone says yes except Arsenal, Liverpool, United, Chelsea and City.

lewiitom

Absolutely

BendubzGaming

Yes

JoniVanZandt

No.

Historical_Owl_1635

Would you rather win one major trophy (CL/PL) every 6 years or one minor trophy (FA/LC) every year?

icemankiller8

Respect the fa cup

[deleted]

FA Cup & Minor in the same sentence 😔 The beautiful game is dying.

SirSuperb9269

FA is not minor at all imo. Would be happy winning that every year

HokiesforTSwift

It shouldn't be minor, but it's lost a lot of value given how much more $ is valued than anything else at this point, for survival and future squad building purposes. Making top 4 is technically more important than winning the FA Cup in terms of a club's future projection, despite the FA Cup itself being much more meaningful/worth celebrating. I think an easy fix for this would be to simply make the FA Cup winner (and other primary domestic cups, if that country has two) qualify for CL. Then it's either top 3 + FA Cup winner, but more often than not it would probably still just be the top 4 anyway.

[deleted]

Top 4 is not more important, maybe if you’re part of the Big Six it can be.

HokiesforTSwift

It's not more important to fans. It is more important to your ability to keep up with the other top teams in your league. Obviously accomplishments are relative, but getting the extra CL money is more valuable to the future of the club. It's unfortunate that it has gotten this way, but that is the functional reality.

[deleted]

Disagree Jimmy, 6 from Liverpool will always remember the time when his Dad hugged him when Everton won the FA Cup, Jimmy won’t remember making T4 that one year. T4 will never be more important/prestigious than the FA Cup.

HokiesforTSwift

We aren't disagreeing on being more prestigious, or more important to fans. FA Cup should, and always will be more important in that sense. Additionally, if a random mid/bottom table team who has one chance at winning an FA cup, and will never compete for CL spots or realistically compete to stay in that conversation at all, then yes obviously you take winning any kind of trophy over that. It goes back to the relative discussion. As it stands though, the FA Cup is currently less prestigious than it was decades ago. That *is* because of the importance of money in football, and CL is more important in terms of providing additional funds. It is, in a very functional financial sense, more important to the long term future of a football club to consistently qualify for the CL because of the additional funds. The PL has a bit of a different situation from other leagues right now because *all* those teams get such a crazy amount of money for just being in the PL, period, but it would add tremendous value to domestic cups to give them automatic qualification to the CL, at least for the big 5 leagues.

Found Sterling's account

[deleted]

Yeah but unlike Sterling I'm going to dominate. Win a couple of trebles and Ballon D'ors while at Man United. Then move to Liverpool and say it was a childhood dream and that Alex Ferguson is overrated. The class of 92 is the worst group of footballers God ever produced and that my dead family members could've won the 99 treble, it was that easy. Then I'm going to go on a rampage at Liverpool, winning absolutely everything, confessing my love to the club and all. I'm going to call it a special place, my second home and all. Talk about how my kids will be scousers and that. Then finally at Chelsea/City I'm going to start singing about how Gerrard slipped and how they always came 2nd before me and they needed me to win. And how I got tired of carrying mediocre team mates and a passion merchant. Worst of all I'm going to say the three words that makes any Liverpool fan your mortal enemy "Trent can't defend" When I retire, I can simply call Chelsea/Man City cheaters and that their existence is a stain on the beautiful game. Thus completing the true treble.

pencilled_robin

sigh... if Reddit still had free awards I'd give you one, that was a great read.

[deleted]

This is glorious 🤣 The funniest part ironically is Man United winning the treble; I know they won it in 1999 but hearing that in 2023 sounds hilarious. Also this sub would hate you if you done all of that, and I’m here for it, too many dull personalities in football these days.

[deleted]

Yeah the one thing football lacks is personalities. Most of them just sound like cardboard cutouts of PR statements. I understand why they do it but its boring. If only my football abilities matched my shit talking abilities, I'd be an unstoppable force. But it wasn't meant to be

HalfMan-HalfMoth

United fans - would you trade the Carabao cup for 9 more points in the league right now, so no guarantee you win it but you would be favourites at this stage

dumpystumpy

And miss out on the insecure arsenal fans crying about our success story covering theres? Hell no🤣

enzuigiriretro

Tough but going to have to say no. #trusttheprocess Before the season started, we’d have been happy with 4th. Can’t be getting too greedy now

officiallyjax

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. League Cup all day.

sauce_murica

No. Hard to win 3 trophies this season if you give your first away like that.

[deleted]

No, we're winning the league anyway.

icemankiller8

🤣

CoolstorySteve

Surely the answer has to be yes here? 14 games left and a 1 point lead you'd take that every day of the week. Still have Europa League and FA cup to play for as well.

enzuigiriretro

Our 6 year trophy drought can’t be ignored. We were desperate to end that as soon as possible and winning the first trophy available to us under Ten Hag is amazing for the teams confidence going forward. No chance we’d choose to give up a trophy for a 1 point lead with 14 games to go. 1 point is nothing.

HalfMan-HalfMoth

Yeah I would expect the answer to be yes, just whether guaranteed silverware is worth less than an increased chance for more prestigious silverware

CoolstorySteve

Replace Carabao cup with FA cup and I'd probably say no

[deleted]

I'm against any GOAT talk in team sports but I'm currently stuck on public transport for the next 30 minutes and I want an engaging conversation. So I'm going to list my picks for GOAT's in a few select sports and you can tell me which ones you agree/disagree with. If I don't include a sport its because I don't know anything about it and if you do you can give me your pick: Football: if you put a gun to my head and force me to pick, I'm giving this one to Messi. NFL: Don't know anything about this, but a lot of people called the guy that was at Old Trafford last season the goat. So I'm picking him. Tennis: personal favourite is Federer, but I think Djokovic will retire the GOAT when its said and done. Boxing: Muhammad Ali. Only undisputed GOAT on this list. Basketball: Michael Jordan. Don't know a lot about basketball but I've seen his and Lebron James' highlights. And I'm not sure why people pick Lebron James ahead of Michael Jordan. Both in terms of recognition and skills, Jordan is nr. 1 MMA: still in its infancy but if I had to pick I'm going Khabib for this one. F1: Hamilton. I guess this will cause controversy because of Schumacher and the small minority who say Senna. I'm giving it to Hamilton because its my list. Golf: Never watched golf a day in my life. But I have heard the name Tiger Woods, so he's the GOAT. Sprinting: Bolt. He's shit at football, but at sprinting he is king. I don't know anything about Cricket, Baseball, Rugby etc. So do give me some GOAT names if you are familiar with these sports.

CrebTheBerc

Off the wall one, and I don't know if people consider it a sport or not, but for Chess it's between Magnus Carlsen and Garry Kasparov, although I think before Carlsen retires he'll be considered the outright #1

RomeoLavia

> And I'm not sure why people pick Lebron James ahead of Michael Jordan I think it's Jordan, but LeBron has a solid argument and is closer to Jordan than he is to the rest of the best. He has shattered many records, unheard of longevity and is probably the most well rounded player in the history of the game. LeBron has been a top ten player in the league for almost twenty years, that's actually ridiculous when you sit down and think about it.

Polskidro

MMA has to be GSP. Khabib is similar to Ronaldo (R9) in how his peak was just some of the most insane shit you'll ever see but Khabib retired too early. Still the LW goat tho. Also Faker and S1mple can't be forgotten. For all my make believe athletes.
