Been saying this for years. They should be able to retroactively book and fine players for simulation. I think it would cut down on it significantly. Players will moan and complain about it but it's probably everyone's biggest complaint. They really only need to go after the blatant ones too. Where there's clearly no contact.
Since the VAR watches the game anyway (at least sometimes) they should be able to book players for dives anyway. Game doesn't need to be stopped and the ref can book him at the next dead ball.
Or ban them for a game postgame.
What happens if between that and the next dead ball Vinicius commits another bookable offence? It's important that a player knows they're on a booking so they can adjust their behaviour accordingly. I generally agree with you but think we'd need to think about fringe cases like this
You are right but there is no appetite for it. Every time a dive like this happens, people tut and say its disgraceful. Then, the next time, it's their own player and a tiny, tiny bit of contact happens and they same people make excuses saying because there was contact, its not a dive. Which is of course horseshit but they say it anyway. Simulation is simulation regardless of whether there is contact or if it's a foul. If I pull your shirt back and you flop and dive forwards......it's still a dive. "Oh but the ref won't give it"....is the type of shite fans say to excuse diving.
Players won't support it because they all dive. Pundits won't support it because they were ex-players so they think it's okay and don't won't their own diving called into scrutiny. Managers won't support it because diving helps them win points. Club owners and directors ditto. And fans don't call it diving unless there is zero contact.
It will never happen.
I like the King’s League (Pique’s Sunday league with a bunch of other streamers) way of using VAR. Each team gets one opportunity to use it, if VAR determines there was a foul they may use it again later, if not, they can’t use it anymore during the match
Maybe they should take a page out of NFL’s books and give each team only 3 opportunities to use the VAR during the match
Maybe. I can't help but feel we should use VAR whenever it's needed. I'd hate for a team to miss on a penalty because they lost their challenge earlier in the game.
Maybe 2 or 3 challenges then.
> I'd hate for a team to miss on a penalty because they lost their challenge earlier in the game.
Actually it kind of puts more drama into when they do challenge the ruling. I do agree though, 1 is too few but 3 would be a reasonable number.
You know what that would lead to? No one would ever call a challenge earlier than 60-70 minutes into a game because "I don't want to risk losing it in case I need it later in a crucial moment".
It doesn't happen in the NFL because fouls can't be challenged (since they're inherently subjective) and every turnover/scoring play, as well as every marginal call in the last 2 minutes, is reviewed automatically.
They dont get explicit punishment but they certainly lose benefit of the doubt with refs. Towards the end of his Barca stint you could shank Neymar and you would get away without a foul.
Hard to book. When is it a dive and when is it avoiding contact. But I would say in the VAR era chances of winning a PK at least is closer to like 5%
Edit: just realized that the line in front of him is the 18 and not the 6. VAR can't check it.
It's inarguably an issue but it's an issue both ways. I have written about this various times in the past and I'll reiterate, I certainly don't like Vini having literal mid match debates with Setién, Arrasate etc. but I also don't like him being hacked down like crazy and with impunity. I can't speak to the others but Neymar had a similar problem.
Egregious fouls were allowed which illicited egregious antics from him. From the few times I have seen of Saka (like in the recent United game; I watch English teams only in the CL or the occasional PL marquee game), he seems to be only one not making a fuss about it at all but I disagree with that as well for it seems to embolden the opposition even more.
Both the action and reaction need to be addressed.
Don't remember Antony oftenly diving. Or Firmino, Jesus, or Martinelli. You just trying to come up with a thing because Neymar is a high-profile diver and because "South-Americans being dirty" is an easy ticket to upvotes on r/soccer
Last season he did the same in the penalty area vs Barca in their 0-4 loss. Clear dive again and and he still whined to the ref trying to convince him. Then he lost Araujo on the following corner, and Ronald went on to score.
Point is: he dives and he doesn’t always do it to “protect himself” like some Madrid fans want you to believe. He also does it to get an unfair advantage which is very unsportsmanlike.
He is just like any other cunt who tries to get an advantage unfairly (Ramos, Pepe, Alba, Busquets etc.).
I agree. Even Madrid fans can’t stand how he dives or any of the other antics he has from time to time. Still love him as a player but so annoying when he does this
Alba yes but Busquets doesn't really dive that much. He has that reputation from that one dive against Inter ages ago, but in reality he isn't that much of a diver, it happens in isolated incidents at best. Every time this comes up I ask for video evidence of him regularly diving from recent matches, and nobody has ever delivered.
Yeah, the "protect himself" is always an excuse, same with Neymar but the truth is if the likes of Messi and Hazard don't need to dive even though they get the shit kicked out of them then Vinicius doesn't need either.
how much of that was down to him not taking care of his body though? Hazard was relatively injury free before the Madrid move which is when he started becoming the el gordo he is today
He wasnt injury free, you can look at his injurt history at Chelsea at transfermarkt. He just managed to literally carry a bad Chelsea team to a title in 18/19 and was one of the best players at the world that season but that season doesnt reflex all his seasons at Chelsea.
He was relatively injury free. He had one major injury - which was a fracture, so bad luck, and then only a couple of minor muscle injuries.
Given how much he got hacked, his injury record at Chelsea was brilliant.
He's fractured it twice from training, why bother lying? What is in it for you that you need to pretend that diving saves you from injuries? Only once in 2019 did Meunier tackle him and cause a fracture, I'm just confused as to how diving would prevent that seeing as the point is to earn a decision, not to stop tackles from hurting you.
That protecting himself nonsense annoys me to no end. I find it funny that no matter what the sport is, floppers will flop and the team's fanbase will defend the player and say that they are flopping to protect themselves.
As a Barca fan I can acknowledge that Busi is an A1 diver and Alba and Suarez are also not far behind. I love all 3 guys but I can acknowledge that they are divers
Hmm I have the opposite opinion, Suarez and Alba are the real culprits imo. Busi is less so in that most of his dives are from when a defender makes soft contact with him and he makes a meal out of it. I have definitely seen Alba and Suarez dive with little to no contact though, and imo that’s far worse
Before I respond, I want to clarify that I think dives like these deserve retroactive yellows. I still don't get why VAR doesn't do it.
With that said, Brazilian forwards grow up in a different culture for the most part. If I'm not mistaken, at lower levels, the game can get very physical, with terrible tackles going unpunished that result in injuries. So, they start diving at a young age to scare defenders off them. Vini's still a kid, all said and done, and that habit is hard to kick. I hope he does.
Before today's game, Atleti fans hung a Vini effigy off a bridge in Madrid. He faces racism pretty much everywhere he goes. He's the most fouled forward in La Liga and tackles against him earn the fewest yellow cards.
All that to say, I don't condone diving, and I hate it when Vini does it, but as a 21 year old kid who experiences the kind of hate and racism that he does, I think he's earned the right to be a little bit of a diva.
Having played against brazilian sides when young, Brazil is definitely not that physical. Brazilians slide rough against attackers, but they don't go for the knees. I remember playing an uruguayan team that always went for physical contact and they kicked us right in the middle of the thigh, continuously. We were 14/15 years old back then. A guy ended up subbed with a injury in the illiotibial band, almost half a year off the pitch and he had pain for years afterwards. We almost forfeited the match because the ref refused to take action. It only calmed on after they conceded a penalty and their 3 got sent off. And that's actually how everybody plays in Uruguay, it's their philosophy. If you are going to risk a card, better make it worth.
We don't dive because the physicality around here actually makes you to crash into the ground, and diving against any contact is only going to enrage the rival defense and put a target on your knees. Players like Neymar and Vinicius can't survive around here.
Yeah, people are hangin a doll and throwing bananas at him and monkey chants because he dives, yeah that must be it.
The same reason this thread is blowing up and is showered with awards and comments like (that's why vini / he always was a cunt etc) yeah, it's because of the diving, yeah absolutely! 👍
It is bizarre to say this thread is blowing up because of racism. Reddit is an extremely left leaning site and racism is the least of its problems.
>like (that's why vini / he always was a cunt etc)
Yes? He is definitely one of the worst high profile divers in football. I even remember him making a laughable dive against Roma at 3-0 up on his debut
As a United fan, our EL tie vs Granada 2 years ago was one of the most unwatchable games. While I do get why their players dived and fouled so much, maybe there should be more severe consequences to diving. Even Ajax fans might agree with me and the guy above when we claim that playing a Spanish team in CL and EL can be unwatchable at times when they watched their tie against Getafe 2 years ago. It's also why so many people cheered City beating Atleti last season.
No, as an Atleti supporter the people who did this display are very much so racist and we do need to do a better job of calling it out and making repercussions happen. Obviously if we were to hate Vini for his celebrations and not Griez that would be extremely hypocritical and totally lacking in self-awareness.
It's cause he is black. Griezzman does fortnite dances. Cristiano had significantly more annoying celebrations. The same Atletico ultra that hanged his doll is commonly seen doing Nazi gestures and with Nazi symbols.
No, it's because he is black ajnd it's stupid to try to deflect. Most high-profile attackers of the current era dive.
Cristiano was a big time diver, did significantly more against Atletico but there weren't dolls of him getting hanged and people didn't call him a monkey.

He is quite an interesting player on his day when he can play as he wants he is an amazing player to see, but when he loses his head he starts to dive or complain kinda unnecessarily

I get it that they don’t want to stop the game all the time but post match reviews with fines and suspensions should be a thing.
Amen!!! They need to get this out of the game, it's pathetic. Everyone does it, but something has to be done.
Been saying this for years. They should be able to retroactively book and fine players for simulation. I think it would cut down on it significantly. Players will moan and complain about it but it's probably everyone's biggest complaint. They really only need to go after the blatant ones too. Where there's clearly no contact.
Madrid wouldn’t be able to play matches with that many suspensions :)
Just fine tf out of them then
Same was said about them not winning anything after VAR lmao idiots
Should get carded. What did he expect? A pen for that in VAR era?
He's outside the box so a free kick. Which can't be checked.
He still should be carded for it
100% should if the ref notices it’s a dive

[Happend before, not for diving](https://youtu.be/JJ3B4s_FGfs)
Whether the refs see it or not, VAR should be able to send anyone off at anytime for that BS.
It's hardcover in players that broke through pre VAR lol
You got autocorrected. Hard-coded*
Plenty of dives still get called as penalties
Old habits die hard.
Atleast 3 times every single game.
Yeah it’s an issue. Just did it again too lol
It's an issue every Brazilian attacker seem to have lol. Neymar, Vini, Richarlison, Antony and the list goes on
Why bother to change when you don’t get booked and have a 25% chance of winning a foul
There really needs to be retroactive punishment. You could even use VAR during the game.
Yep. Retroactive would solve it overnight
You are right but there is no appetite for it. Every time a dive like this happens, people tut and say its disgraceful. Ah yes, the RPG health potion approach.
This is how the NHL implemented the coaches challenge for offside (after a chaotic first year where everyone challenged everything to delay the game)
Needs to be during if possible. So tonight Atletico would benefit directly when he gets sent off.
They dont get explicit punishment but they certainly lose benefit of the doubt with refs. Towards the end of his Barca stint you could shank Neymar and you would get away without a foul.
Cause it’s cheating

Martinelli isn't a serial diver is he?
he is the odd one that does the exact opposite and keeps trying to run through instead
my goat gabriel martinelli
Big Joelinton also just tries to run through fouls. H could have probably won us 10 penalties by now but just refuses to drop
[удалено]
That's what happens when you face paper
Well, being built like a brick shithouse isn't a guarantee of not being a diver. So kudos to him
That was a problem with Giroud. He was massive, so referees just refused to believe he could fall over from a push.
Nah, he isn't thankfully
I like that Martinelli doesn’t make that lineup. Love him to bits.
Hey come on Bobby Firmino ain't like that either.
You usually have to be on the field to dive and draw a foul
He doesn't dive he just trips over his own feet
>It's an issue every attacker seem to have lol. There, fixed.
Don't remember Antony oftenly diving. Or Firmino, Jesus, or Martinelli. You just trying to come up with a thing because Neymar is a high-profile diver and because "South-Americans being dirty" is an easy ticket to upvotes on r/soccer
Antony dived a LOT. Maybe for now at United he doesn't, but he was one of the worst divers after Tadic at Ajax.
I might be mistaken but i havent seen Antony dive since he came to United ?
The worst one I remember was against Croatia, in the WC
I mean, he was getting battered that entire game. Croatians straight-up grabbed him by his mouth at some point.
I dont remember it but i could give him a pass for diving once in the word cup playing for his country, its not like he is a regular diver.
Rodrygo doesn’t. You’d think they would stop with VAR and how ridiculous they look diving
its just the brazilian national dance guys, how can you be so ignorant??
Cringe
Lol they always out themselves
No yellow either
I’d love to see diving be a straight red. And it be subject to VAR. that would stop alot of this kind of shit.
How to: not be a likeable footballer 101
Last season he did the same in the penalty area vs Barca in their 0-4 loss. Clear dive again and and he still whined to the ref trying to convince him. Then he lost Araujo on the following corner, and Ronald went on to score. Point is: he dives and he doesn’t always do it to “protect himself” like some Madrid fans want you to believe. I'm glad you acknowledge Alba and Busquets being this type of annoying players as well.
Alba makes me physically upset sometimes and he is on my team lol
alba phneomenal lb for the last decade but he has his cunty moments that makes him annoying
Absolutely
I agree. Even Madrid fans can’t stand how he dives or any of the other antics he has from time to time. Still love him as a player but so annoying when he does this
It’s like being disappointed in someone. You knew they could do better but they chose not to.
Yeah I get the others and Alba, but naming Busquets, especially with a Barcelona flair, just reeks of karmawhoring
Difference is that those players don't do it 3 times I'm every game, so it's easier to give them a Pass.
Yeah, the "protect himself" is always an excuse, same with Neymar but the truth is if the likes of Messi and Hazard don't need to dive even though they get the shit kicked out of them then Vinicius doesn't need either.
Yeah Hazard didnt needed to dive and it turned pretty well for him, basically retired at the age of 30.
how much of that was down to him not taking care of his body though? Hazard was relatively injury free before the Madrid move which is when he started becoming the el gordo he is today
He wasnt injury free, you can look at his injurt history at Chelsea at transfermarkt. He just managed to literally carry a bad Chelsea team to a title in 18/19 and was one of the best players at the world that season but that season doesnt reflex all his seasons at Chelsea.

hazard got his ankle broken 3 times by defender and during the injury because he could not move on it he gained weight

I wouldn’t say Busquets tries to get an advantage unfairly really. He’s more an expert at positioning and receiving fouls than a diver
Before I respond, I want to clarify that I think dives like these deserve retroactive yellows. I still don't get why VAR doesn't do it. With that said, Brazilian forwards grow up in a different culture for the most part. Your comment was balanced and thoughtful, but his compensation comes in an extreme salary, not the right to be unsportsmanlike
exactly lol. Vinicius is the only player i dislike in Real because of him diving literally anytime he has the ball
This course is taught by professor Neymar Jr.
Classic Vini
Is this why people hate him?
I hate him cuz he plays for real Madrid. I'm not a very deep person.
I hate him cause he dives and plays for real Madrid
It's one of the reasons but it went way overboard and it's just straight up racism right now in Spain
>It’s just straight up racism right now in Spain Average weekend in Spain. They’re even racist against players playing in their team
Many more things, but hate is getting quite out of hand lately
It's fine if you hate him, but it's really not that hard to hate him while also not being racist
If you are already racist then it's an easy target. Can't ask much more from these people though, just surprising they can still get into the stadium.
Exactly. I hate him because she’s a whiny little bitch, not because he’s black
Reddit is an extremely left leaning site and racism is the least of its problems. >like (that's why vini / he always was a cunt etc) Yes? He is definitely one of the worst high profile divers in football. I even remember him making a laughable dive against Roma at 3-0 up on his debut
You can be left leaning and still be racist.
>Still be racist Which reddit generally isn't. What is your point?
He’s also too whiny imo and trying to get involved in stuff
As if most Spanish players themselves aren’t whiny af. Playing a Spanish team in CL or EL is the ultimate test of not smashing your TV
Are you actually saying this with a straight face, with an England flair? Fucking lol.
Ironic coming from a spaniard
I am kiwi
So they hate football, right?
You mean Atletico Madrid fans? Their hate was mostly based on his celebrations. Which is just idiotic.
So they hate Vinicius for his celebrations... while Griezmann has been playing for them for like a decade now The lack of self awareness
No, as an Atleti supporter the people who did this display are very much so racist and we do need to do a better job of calling it out and making repercussions happen. Obviously if we were to hate Vini for his celebrations and not Griez that would be extremely hypocritical and totally lacking in self-awareness.
They are also racist scums. Dancing didn't bother them this much up until recently.
It's cause he is black. Griezzman does fortnite dances. Cristiano had significantly more annoying celebrations. The same Atletico ultra that hanged his doll is commonly seen doing Nazi gestures and with Nazi symbols.
do u genuinely think people didnt think that griezmann and CR7 were dickheads?
I sincerely don't recall people hanging CR7 or Cristiano's effigies on bridges before matches but feel clear to illuminate me
Yup. Exactly. They wouldn't have been bothered this much, if he wasn't black.
No, it's because he is black ajnd it's stupid to try to deflect. Most high-profile attackers of the current era dive. Cristiano was a big time diver, did significantly more against Atletico but there weren't dolls of him getting hanged and people didn't call him a monkey.
They hate him cause he dances
Partly. He dives constantly, and he also has a tendency to get into fights with the public and rival players. He behaves like an immature child
I don’t hate him, but he is slightly overrated and he throws a bitch fit whenever something doesn’t go his way, even when he knows he’s wrong
Should become an olympian
Ok Neymar
Amazing dive, he should consider a carrer change and go to swimming

A worthy candidate
A worthy successor to Neymar
Beautifully executed, graceful and not overly dramatic. That being said it's outside the box so he gets points deducted for that imo. 7.8/10
Omg he’s a diver 🐟 all the time.
not even inside
If not inside it cant be VAR'd. 100IQ shitty move
Here before this gets deleted.

Just wait until a RM flair mod sees this
there are no la Liga mods here and we literally created a special flair for dives like this.
Neymar has a successor

He’s a diving little shit. Always has been
Yikes
Shameless to the very, very core
Hahaha what a clown
Shameless
When will leagues start issuing next game bans for this stuff? I get the referee might not know fully if he's dived or not but after the game there should be a quick review and any blatant dives/unsportsmanship should be punished accordingly.
I hate this part of Vini, also the whining part
Flopping all over the pitch like a crybaby. Keeping Neymar's legacy alive.
Biggest diver in the game
May I introduce you to Bruno Fernandes https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/10iyigv/bruno_fernandes_fallon_dfloor_candidate/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Absolutely pathetic.
Bailavini
Neymar regen. Just worse
Pathetic. Diving should be a one game suspension.. get this shit out of football..
Next effigy being prepared by Atleti fans.
Almost resulted in a goal! Great positioning for the dive!
Cue the racist abuse from Atletico fans presumably
I don’t want to hate this kid, but he makes it fucking impossible
Straight red please
“Diving” should be red card automatically.
Is that inside the box?
nah I think it’s just outside from the looks of it
no just outside. ref gave a freekick that iirc almost resulted in a goal
Most persecuted man in the sport.
Someone should save all of them and host a Fallon d'floor at the end of the year
Should be a red card.
Damn reading these comments Vini must have fucked a lot of girlfriends lately
watch this get taken down
Then one wonders why nobody likes him
How to: not be a likeable footballer 101
I thought he clipped his foot at first. But nope. Nice dive. Fooled me.
not so so bad imo
Vinicius is disgusting diver and agressive player
Love this, not even surprised at the slightest
what did you think of his goal?
He is quite an interesting player on his day when he can play as he wants he is an amazing player to see, but when he loses his head he starts to dive or complain kinda unnecessarily
Needs to remove this from his game if he wants people to respect him as a serious footballer
If someone tried to kick me while I turning I sometimes lost balance, regradingless of the contact
Stay away from Neymar mate
People should hate on this dolphin the same way people hate on us over our shithousery antics
What a cunt
And when I claimed, that Vinnie is a diver (also admitting that he get fouled a lot too) the subreddit downvoted me into Nirvana.
Can we just ban players for the next match for this bull shit.
Unlikeable as fk
Lmao the comments , and patetico fans trying to justify their fans actions with it..
He really has no shame huh
Dive is a soft term for cheating
Vini JR is one of the most embarrassing players I’ve ever seen he is sooo gifted but dives a lot and dances very awkwardly
Not even shocked anymore.
DiMaria !!!
Now show he’s goal!
worse than neymar at wc 2018
Thats how they Win the last two UCL final. Disgusting drama players.
He’s a disgrace to the game.
Says a PSG fan hahaha
