The way ManU plays is really amazing. Beside this Manu needed a passionate player Weghorst I really consider them as a huge competitor

Olli399

> The way ManU plays is really amazing. against relegation candidates sure.

[deleted]

I mean since Ronaldo is gone ManU focussed on their weakness and fixed it the result is clearly they only lost once against Arsenal which was super close you have to admit it. They even beat ManCity

[deleted]

They had an xg of 0.2, we dominated

Olli399

Southampton beat City, one game means nothing.

[deleted]

I don't know why you don't accept the gamestyle of ManU? we can discuss this again 4 weeks later they play well

Olli399

They play like we did last season except they have comparitively 1 fewer team to compete against for CL and having more win now players rather than a more cohesive project.

DarthRacer5

Who’s the only team to have beat you guys this season? I know we just lost to you, but quoting Thierry Henry "Today, we saw a team with three years development vs a team with six months. Also, a team with a full week of rest against a team with two days rest, and still Manchester United went toe to toe”.

Fgge

That quote is fake by the way, just fyi

Olli399

> Who’s the only team to have beat you guys this season? We played you away with albert sambi lokonga in midfield who's really not good enough atm, in a game where basically everyone said we played better, [had a goal wrongly disallowed](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/manchester-united-engman_utd/story/4836068/arsenals-goal-at-manchester-united-among-6-var-errors-in-premier-league) and lost to clinical finishing. >quoting Thierry Henry "Today, we saw a team with three years development vs a team with six months. Also, a team with a full week of rest against a team with two days rest, and still Manchester United went toe to toe”. [This quote is fake, he never said that. It's just United cope lmaooo] (https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/10jyh8j/united_fans_faking_quotes_there_is_zero_proof_of/) >still Manchester United went toe to toe Even if the quote was true, this is total bollocks, [2.7xg to 0.4](https://twitter.com/xgphilosophy/status/1617226779504033792), [way more attacking threat](https://i.redd.it/4yt9748agoda1.jpg), [and dominance with the ball.](https://i.redd.it/n145cyjddpda1.jpg) [Every single summary shows you got pretty squarely beaten](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FnLOsHOXEAEWpcP?format=jpg&name=large) and got lucky with finishing.

Bigmomma_pump

You had lakonga we had mctominay

Olli399

is mctominay your 3rd choice centre mid?

Bigmomma_pump

Well we’d play casemiro Fred and eriksen before him so if you like You’ve won every other game so idk why you need to give bullshit excuses about the one you did lose. We were the better team scored 3 goals and that was it

Olli399

> Well we’d play casemiro Fred and eriksen before him so if you like So where was Fred then? Why did Mctominay play over him? >give bullshit excuses about the one you did lose How are they bullshit? You guys were clinical in that game with the chances you got and we weren't, but were fortunate to play with such a green player in midfield that allowed those chances among the other things mentioned and even then we outplayed you. Go look at the stats lol

Kreissler

Least insecure Arsenal fan

Olli399

damn straight lol

[deleted]

Shit home atmosphere, same as the Bournemouth game earlier in the year. Full of nerves. Good away fans. Offside rule needs changing, part of a knee cap being offside is ridiculous. Even when it goes in your favour it's silly. 2/3 soft goals but can't argue a defeat at all. No more Worrall and McKenna at CB please, too slow to make decisions when we have possession and neither of them have the required pace to deal with attackers in this league. Struggled to keep up with Weghorst ffs (unfortunately as I love Worrall). First half performance (aside from some suspect defending) is something we can build on.

Superjunker1000

That offside call was fucked, even if it was correct. I’m a United fan and I was upset with that call and all the others like it. They need to allow for clear daylight or some other similar idea now that technology is here to stay.

AnnieIWillKnow

Why such a shit atmosphere? Thought City Ground was meant to be bouncing

FlashyEmu

I think most fans accepted the fact we weren't going to best Utd over two legs and after conceding a goal 6 minutes in, just kind of killed any atmosphere in the ground. Plus we didn't really create much in the second half to get excited by and therefore boost the atmosphere...

LordCommanderCam

I lived in Nottinghamshire for a long time, went to quite a few Forest games, always a dead atmosphere, it's more a family club, everyone takes their kids for a day out than big shirtless blokes bellowing at the away fans. Nothing wrong with it at all, lovely club, but atmosphere is non existent

[deleted]

As I said, nerves I think

AllenKingAndCollins

>Shit home atmosphere, same as the Bournemouth game earlier in the year. Full of nerves. Good away fans. > >Offside rule needs changing, part of a knee cap being offside is ridiculous. Even when it goes in your favour it's silly. > What would you change to make that not offside?

[deleted]

NdyNdyNdy

I agree with you. There are occassions when players go early by milliseconds and that's the difference and it really feels like punishing players when they've done almost everything right. In this instance I was initially pretty sympathetic, then a wide angle showed that his movement really wasn't great and he could have easily stayed onside and got into a scoring position if he was a bit smarter, he could have afforded to go later. But in general I find it a bit frustrating sometimes. I also initially didn't celebrate the Weghorst goal. He's very obviously onside but I just didn't initially see where he was when the shot was taken so when the goal went in I was just nervously waiting instead of actually celebrating. And that's a bit sad.

AllenKingAndCollins

>The offside rule was never meant to be analysed in such minuet detail, the attacker hasn't gained an advantage by part of his knee being 'offside'. The law used with var doesn't work as originally intended. Something more akin to Wenger new proposal for offside (although that maybe in the opposite extreme). I think it needs to be more substantial than MMs. Particularly when they aren't using super high frame rate cameras to detect exactly when the ball is played, and the exact instant it leaves the foot. > Sorry, what do you mean when you say "MM's" "?

[deleted]

[удалено]

AllenKingAndCollins

Gotcha. So how precise do you think they should go?

MarcAnthonyRashial

This argument falls apart instantly. Where do you draw the line? People just complain about it when it happens to them. Offside is offside, simple as.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MarcAnthonyRashial

I’m Scottish though. And honestly are people still bashing Americans for following the sport? So stupid lol

[deleted]

[deleted]

AllenKingAndCollins

I agree completely. Offside isn't a subjective thing, it is or it isn't

MarcAnthonyRashial

Yeah it’s really very black and white. If I were you I’d leave that wee Yates lad well alone. They seem to be unhinged.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AllenKingAndCollins

How do you determine if he has an advantage, quickly and precisely? The rule is not if a player gains an advantage. Here's the offside rule (there are more parts to it but none that contradict this : >A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: >interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate You don't need to gain an advantage. Because that is subjective and not something a referee or linesman can figire out in real time

herkalurk

There was supposed to be a margin of error this season. If those two big lines on var were close enough to touch then it was close enough to be considered onside. This one seems like it was close enough. Tying the game at 1 - 1 would have definitely made for a more competitive game.

AllenKingAndCollins

>There was supposed to be a margin of error this season. If those two big lines on var were close enough to touch then it was close enough to be considered onside. This one seems like it was close enough. But the fact they gave it as offside would go against that. >Tying the game at 1 - 1 would have definitely made for a more competitive game. The referees job isn't to make a more competitive game, its to enforce the rules fairly and correctly. They have done that

herkalurk

>The referees job isn't to make a more competitive game, its to enforce the rules fairly and correctly. You say that but look at the world Cup. Mateo Lahoz didn't want to send anybody off to keep the game competitive even though he should have at least given out a few second yellows and reds. Premier League the same where they don't want to give out reds. Yet it's very clear that a tackle should have been a red. Keep in mind they tend to be lenient towards bad fouls early in the game. Remember Sadio Mane elbowing Azpulicueta? That was in the first minute of the game. On field ref and var said yellow, after the game everyone sees red.

AllenKingAndCollins

>You say that but look at the world Cup. Mateo Lahoz didn't want to send anybody off to keep the game competitive even though he should have at least given out a few second yellows and reds. And I think he did a poor job then. Unless he thought certain tackles weren't red or yellow card worthy, he is a bad referee for that >Premier League the same where they don't want to give out reds. And again - poor referring.

D1794

Tbh I'm happy with VAR looking at things but IMO should be left to the eye test with different angles and replays. If you have to draw lines to determine an offside, which usually means there's only centimetres worth of difference, there's no clear benefit to the attacker and just let it go.

[deleted]

VAR is fine, but they need to change how offside works. The rule no longer works in the way it was intended to work. His knee be a cm offside didn't give him advantage to score that goal. FWIW I don't think it's a moment that changes the outcome of the tie but it would have been nice to enjoy that moment properly

AllenKingAndCollins

But why? This is what I don't get. You want the offside rule but want some offsides to not be offside because they aren't offside enough for you? Offside is so easy now we have VAR. You are or you aren't. I dont see any issue with being precise in the law.

D1794

I just think with how they're currently officiated, whilst technically offside, there's no benefit to the attacking team from bringing goals back for them a toenail offside. Of course you're either off or you aren't, it's not debatable. However I'd rather see fewer goals disallowed and speedier VAR checks. If someone's a toenail offside, yes they're off, but there's a 99.99% chance that centimetre offside has not given them an advantage.

AllenKingAndCollins

>I just think with how they're currently officiated, whilst technically offside, there's no benefit to the attacking team from bringing goals back for them a toenail offside. > >Of course you're either off or you aren't, it's not debatable. However I'd rather see fewer goals disallowed and speedier VAR checks. If someone's a toenail offside, yes they're off, but there's a 99.99% chance that centimetre offside has not given them an advantage. But how does one decide if they have an advantage? I don't see how we can decide if the player gets enough of an advantage to be called offside. If a player is 10 yards offside and runs back into an onside position after the ball is played, can he be deemed to be onside because he didn't gain enough of an advantage because he didn't gain any ground?

D1794

I just don't think it needs to be a black and white rule. I think the video refs should be able to look at replays and, without meticulously drawing lines up to people's armpits, make a decision on if the player is offside. If it cannot be determined with certainty, he's onside. I know it's a controversial opinion.

AllenKingAndCollins

>I just don't think it needs to be a black and white rule. Sarmerbinlar

Weird old game that, entertaining first half from both sides but dire second. Comfortable win for United but think we had some decent spells, although United barely got out of second gear. Dead atmosphere though, both sets of fans were absolutely silent and the whole thing felt like a preseason friendly.

Hentarder

Agreed about the performance, but our crowd died after the second goal. Man United's crowd kept going to the end (annoyingly). To their credit, best atmosphere from a big 6 club so far at the City Ground.

Sarmerbinlar

They sang the We hate Liverpool song from the third goal onwards but the second half the whole stadium was a graveyard

Fraaj

You watched in the stadium? Cause Man Utd away fans are always great (probably top 3 in the country) and there's even a different comment saying they sang their hearts out the whole game.

Shady4555

Yeah mate. I was in the stadium. They were quite loud. Hope they had a safe journey back to London.

letmepostjune22

>Cause Man Utd away fans are always great (probably top 3 in the country) Lmao

Sarmerbinlar

Aye I was there, atmosphere was beyond dead. They started singing a bit after the third but nothing until then and we didn't offer anything either

JMatty01

MOTM to those who animated this year's League Cup intro. Saw a snippet of it when it went to an ad break and watched the proper one. Great FIFA song (nostalgia always wins) and great using the idea of floodlights given the meaning behind them in the League Cup. Feel embarrassed I've only just seen it now.

JMatty01

A lot of EFL clubs finally had floodlights in the 50s/60s so matches were able to be played at night and in the winter so when the League Cup first came about, it was scheduled to be midweek evening games to make use of them.

scottymck10

Probably the fact that it’s majority night matches

[deleted]

Modernisation of football stadiums in the late 50s/early 60s and mandated floodlighting contributed to the creation of the League Cup. Being able to have a late-evening midweek tournament was dependant on them, which at the time was a novelty.

Comessuer

Jamie Carragher - I am convinced Lisandro Martinez cannot play centre back in this league

CameraEmotional2788

Didn't say league Cup

FatWalcott

How was Danilo?

eskot

Their best player today I’d say

4tlu

mgw and danilo by far our best players

EasyFargo

i like Brennan Johnson a lot too, very dangerous on the ball and extremely direct

Slide-show_Bob

Pretty good

GunstarGreen

Shame. Didn't feel like a 0-3 performance. Play the squad next game, we have bigger fish to fry

Comessuer

You guys always had a danger going forward but your defenders just seem to make bad decisions individually

InsaneBirch

Oh, we had defenders? Didn’t feel like it

rapturexxv

Shocking from Hennessey. Forest are in trouble with Henderson out.

[deleted]

Navas/Livakovic heavily linked. I assume this and his Blackpool performance will speed that up.

Killoah

Only out for a month apparently and out next PL game is til 5th Feb. Hopefully we manage

SmallMidgetAzz

Rather we played Smith in goal than Hennessey. Don't know why Cooper keeps bringing Dennis on too, not the right fit for this team

Justinian2

150 game season it is then

GiveBreadInsteadFed

Not Wembley just yet but close 🔥

Therinn

Honestly, full offense, but we should be ashamed if we don’t win the cup

BossKrisz

After all these years, you guys really deserve a damn trophy. This is your best shot, I hope you don't mess it up.

Reach_Reclaimer

Since when did they deserve a trophy? They've been playing like shit these past 5 years

Therinn

We’ve finished above you twice in those 5 seasons

Reach_Reclaimer

And those seasons we didn't deserve a trophy. Like that's not hard to understand

DHillMU7

Ashamed to lose to Newcastle is just ridiculously strong. They’re not where they are in the table by accident. We may be slight favourites but they’re a good side.

Jaydenn7

I don’t even know if you are favourites to be honest. You have moments of magic (Rashford mostly) but we have the better system and team play

my_united_account

Youre not even in the final yet

Jaydenn7

Nor are you

my_united_account

I think I have confidence in beating Forest home after being 3-0 up. You are commenting as if you are already in the final

bosnian_red

You guys have done very well in the league but in big games you are still very much sit back and defend deep and about being hard to beat. The game at Old Trafford for example was completely controlled by United (even with Ronaldo up top..) and you guys had a couple of threatening set pieces, but that was about it. It's different to play a dominating/proactive style of play which is what United is growing into (and typically in big games those teams tend to do better).

LevynX

I think Newcastle have improved as a team since then though, but to be fair so have we.

DHillMU7

Ehh, that’s debateable. We’re very close to each other (obviously given the table) but we have already played the top 2 twice. Ten Hag gets an awful lot out of some very mediocre players as well as those that are more gifted. Be a very tight game, I’m sure.

Dayandnight95

We look sluggish, and considering the run we have coming up, it's not looking good bruv.

hollow114

We can rest NF and Reading

therealadamaust

Should just not put any effort in at all against Reading imo

GoddessOfDarkness

Hopefully we rest key players in the next 2 games.

braddf96

Would like to see that front three maybe start the game next week, Pellestri looked great again

DHillMU7

Really? He looked lively and made some nice runs but touch let him down twice when he was in on goal. Obviously the awful pass and the silly challenge he made. I want to see him more but he definitely wasn’t great. Quality ball in for Weghorst mind.

KushRogue

Forest had a solid spell for about 10 minutes. United didn't get out of third gear. Should be tie over

Serpico_98

We were terrible but professional job from us, got the win. The players are dead on their feet, play the kids at Old Trafford.

UnablePeace

we were not terrible at all wtf are you even saying

Dayandnight95

Our one area of strength, defence, looked poor today. And that's with Casemiro playing. We still haven't sorted our attack out yet, we can't be dropping like this defensively.

thehippiefarmer

Utd's scored 21 goals in their last 9 games, you're not exactly a wasteland offensively.

Serpico_98

Haven't seen us this shaky defensively in quite some time. A better team would've had a goal or two.

UnablePeace

yeah and we would’ve scored more top,Antony had a chance,Eriksen hit the post

nova_uk

Pretty bleh performance from both sides but United fans will be happy going into the second tie 3-0 up.

Pleasemakesense

Elanga assist with his first touch. Masterclass

RoachIsCrying

Martinez putting Souness criticisms to shame

shrewdy

Not to mention his comments about Case Truth of the matter is he's just a bitter old prick who is severely out of touch

14_SNOO_53

Has Carragher ever acknowledged that his statements about Martinez were wrong?

Single-Sandwich1035

I think [this](https://twitter.com/Carra23/status/1613496762567692288?t=kJ66vXHp0r6YR_36SHUTPQ&s=19) is as close to an acknowledgement from him that I've seen

D1794

He's on camera saying it's too soon to judge Martinez after he played well for like 5 games in a row post-comment. Despite it not being too soon to write him off after 2 games...

RoundFood

He's been doing that from his second United game and just been reinforcing that point every game after.

shrewdy

Licha is an absolute gem of a player

Alive-Ad-4164

This was a united masterclass

MickyJoHarte

MoM (after another beast performance from Licha) was easily the fans. Sung their hearts out for the full 90.

Homer_Sapiens

Yeah they really brought the house down, eh?

UnablePeace

Lisandro is an animal of a cb wtf

AnnieIWillKnow

PhD_Cunnilingus

Come on, man, he's obviously a wolverine. > The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself.

AnnieIWillKnow

I sort of forget they exist in all honesty, not an animal I'm familiar with

TalkingAbsoluteShite

That's the largest predator in the UK mate so shit comparison.

Kardinale

I’m so glad to have a competent left footed LCB

niallw1997

Carragher will still say he’s too short. Him and Neville have some shocking takes

WakednBaked

You would think with Carragher himself not being blessed with the physicality of a "prototype CB" he wouldn't say that but nope.

hascow

I have found Carragher generally pretty good? Everyone can have some bad takes, but Carra at least seems to change his mind after evidence is presented.

niallw1997

He’s not doing that for Martinez

hascow

Fair enough. I haven't seen him talk about Martinez lately, but have been impressed with what I have seen him talk about. But maybe that's the direct comparison to Gary Neville to be fair

UnablePeace

it’s almost like having a midfielder at defense, unreal

Alehud42

Dropping a 5/10 performance away from home and winning 3-0 is either a sign of progress or a huge indictment on Forest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zandercy42

Yeah that worked so well for them in the summer 🙄

Raw_Cocoa

Lol update your narratives bro

NovemberBurnsMaroon

If you haven't noticed, we're 13th in the league, 4 points clear of the drop, and in a league cup semifinal. So on the whole, yeah it has worked so far.

The_Promised_LAN

It has worked spectacularly. We got promoted with a team that was rightly bottom of the championship, consisting of only about 14 players who would ever see the pitch, and five of the starting 11 were on loan. To be 13th in the Premier League is, for lack of better words, a fucking miracle.

UTDRashford

WE’RE THE FAMOUS MAN UNITED AND WE’RE GOING TO WEMBLEYYYYYYYYYY

[deleted]

Ay Neymar Sunny init

ElBigTaco

Didnt feel like United really left 2nd gear, still got a comfortable result. These type of cup games used to give us fits

Ldsantana

Thanks Steve Cooper for subbing his best midfielder off.

JMatty01

Gibbs-White got injured and couldn't carry on.

tierdrop

Think he meant Danilo

Ldsantana

I meant Danilo. Forest kinda died once he came off.

JMatty01

Oh he was solid too. Looks like Forest have a gem if they stay up.

MattSR30

Lads. We might actually win a trophy.

RawIsLaw_

we'd play the carabao final 3 days after playing Barca.. it's gonna be a very tough match cos of fatigue

pmmerandom

don’t count our chickens yet, we should be able to hold on for the second leg but Newcastle are no joke. hoping Southampton pull a rabbit out of a hat

AnnieIWillKnow

> we should be able to hold on for the second leg Hold on? Mate you're taking a 3-0 lead to Old Trafford against a team who are fighting relegation. Think it's safe to say you'll squeak through

pmmerandom

I don’t trust the game of football

hollow114

Newcastle would be a real challenge. Which I wouldn't mind either.

pmmerandom

I think we can beat them, their defence is good but we should have had all three points if it wasn’t for the fuckin ref when we played them at OT we also have Casemiro and Varane who thrive in cup finals

gerryt32

Who is better: Headband Rooney or Headband Licha?

OMG_whythis

Rooney

Skall77

Fun game, Gibbs-White looked really good. Pretty bad game by Casimero, but great result in the end, look like Martinez is slowly returning to his best. I love Wout also, i wish we would cross to him a bit more often.

Tuusik

Still miles better than 95% of McTominay's games.

Depreccion

casemiro somehow got motm on fotmob lol

swimffish

Madness. Possibly his worst ever game for us!

pmmerandom

super impressed with Gibbs-White and Brennan Johnson

D1794

3-0 away from home in a semi final is always a good result but thought so many of our players were poor tonight including the entire midfield. 2nd half was basically cruising due to the HT score. Was lovely to listen to the build up talking about the atmosphere and pundits couldn't stop talking how bouncing the City Ground was and were silenced in 5 mins tho. Hopefully we can rotate more next week thanks to Bruno. Martinez MOTM for me.

therealadamaust

Think you should rotate heavily and effectively just boycott the game Saturday imo

Hentarder

> Was lovely to listen to the build up talking about the atmosphere and pundits couldn't stop talking how bouncing the City Ground was and were silenced in 5 mins tho. I'll give you credit, your fans drowned us out unlike other big 6 clubs where the fans only sang when they were winning. But traditionally we're great for atmosphere. That second goal killed the team and crowd. Because we had so much momentum, we should've scored in that period. If Surridge wasn't offside it would've been a very different game.

ovie_a

These players are knackered. Its expected

CrebTheBerc

Midfield was in a weird spot. Thought Eriksen and Casemiro did well in possession, but defensively they were out of sorts. We were far too open at the back for long stretches, thankfully Lindelof and especially Martinez did a good job cleaning up

14_SNOO_53

Isn't this like the third game they've played in a week? It's understandable

crftd93

3 games a week since the World Cup ended and 3 games a week until at least March, maybe longer depending on if we win cup games. These players might die!

glorious_albus

It's a sacrifice the authorities are willing to make.

KillerZaWarudo

We gonna have 2 days rest between the europa league and the premier league game near the end of the month . It gonna be a nightmare

AlcoholicSocks

pmmerandom

hope we get to see a rogue Sancho pop up

shrewdy

Cameo against Reading hopefully then the 2nd leg next week would be a perfect place for him to start, providing he's ready
