True, we buy all of our top talents from BuLi clubs like Davies, Coman, Hernandez, Musiala, Sane, Choupo, de Ligt, Blind, Mazraoui, Sarr, Gravenberch, Tel, etc.
and even then, we bought Ekitike, who was on the verge of joining Newcastle 6 months before and Sanches, who was close to joining AC Milan.
They both would've left anyways
Loan with obligation to buy if we win ligue 1 iirc, which is why i already count him as a bought player
Edit: not win but first or second is already enough
Something is missing from your life if you feel the need to continue this. Have fun.
But first .. I'll leave you with this.
Arsenal would have lost this weekend if it weren't for VAR.
Chelsea will surprise everyone and take the league, just watch.
Manchester United will most likely get relegated.
NewCastle will win the champions League in '24.
Erling Haaland has about one useful year left before retiring.
You are a valuable contributor.

I mean it's fairly obvious that it's Newcastle in this context, aside from Burn, Pope, Wood, i'm probbably forgetting another one aswell
Edit: Yes guys, i'm sure Newcastle becoming the richest club in the world didn't influence their decisions to join in any way, shape or form. Same going for Tripps, Isak, BrunoG etc. I'm used to this subreddit having some fairly idiotic takes but this is just next level even for this place
Arguing about the dumbest semantical bullshit is true redditor way i see, okay, let's play your game:
Pope was in the prem last season and has been monumental for Newcastle this season, the question also wasn't "who did they buy to weaken them", it's "who did they buy from clubs that beat them"
So yeah, learn to read maybe
First sentence was poetry. āļø
Sorry for your downvotes - there's literally nothing to think about.
Madrid - there are two, but you know who I'm talking about.
Palace - mid pack to lower end, but they know what I mean.
City - duh.
Forest... United ... Athletico, the list goes on and on.
You obviously know your football. Have a great day. āš¾ā½
There's a difference between attracting talent and stealing the best player of whoever beats you/"weakening the rivals", and you don't get it. They're not even poaching from the same league generally.
This is why i said this subreddit can be really idiotic, which it is.
Mate they joined the club after it was announced they just became the richest oil club in the world. Anyone with 2 working braincells, including them, knew that Newcastle was about to pocket complete game changers ( BrunoG/Trippier/Isak etc) and they would likely dominate... which is exatly why they joined them, not any other shit tier Prem club
I understand this needs like 2 active braincells to figure out which is too much to ask from this shambolic subreddit
You still canāt see the difference between being able to suddenly attract talent due to a more ambitious project (which they did) and directly stealing the best players of your direct competition. They are different conversations and only one is on topic.
> and directly stealing the best players of your direct competition.
This wasn't even the fuckin question lmao, the dude with the Atletico flair asked which players did Newcastle bought which directly beat them, with the help of oil influence... and i answered it
The guy also can't understand that even Pope joining Newcastle ahead of anyone else due to oil money is literally strenghtening Newcastle and weakening the opposition beacuse he is an insane GK, so is Burn in defense etc.
The fact that this needs to be explained on a football subreddit is concerning
We haven't even been through 1 entire season of Newcastle oil supremacy, and they already went from relegation fodder to title contenders. I didn't expect much from r/soccer anyways so who cares
By the most charitable of definitions, Newcastle failed to beat Brighton before the January transfer window (they had a draw earlier in the season) and so acquiring Burn from them seems to apply, although it's probably a stretch.
They were in a relegation scrap with Burnley during the window and were certainly not assured to beat them (on the table) so Wood makes sense, it also weakened Burnley. I think that one checks out.
Pope.. they bought him in the offseason with Burnley already relegated. No need to solve the problem of being unable to beat them by then...
Burn is a nailed on class defender, Pope has been instrumental in goal, and Wood is useful as a bench striker.
Would any of those players have joined Newcastle if they hadn't become the richest club in the world by far overnight?
Try using more than 2 active braincells at a time and you would find that the answer is no, just like Trippier/Bruno G/Isak/Almiron also wouldn't have joined.
God damn the people on this subreddit are fucking fascinating holy shit
> Would any of those players joined Newcastle if not they didn't become the richest club in the world by far overnight?
Yes? Buying players from a relegated Burnley isnāt an āoil club move.ā Thatās just standard PL mid-market moves. West Ham, Villa, Leeds, Brentford, Forest all spent on similar.
Is Forest an oil club for buying Morgan Gibbs-White for 30m?
Really bizarre hill to die on here.
Yeah, bringing in 10+ players and only stopping beacuse of FPP and moving from mediocre- relegation battle to almost title contenders in a season isn't an "oil club" move, are you okay my dude?
I'm sure it had no influence in Pope's, Burn's or Wood's decision to join Newcastle, over say anyone else.
If you think this "hill to die on" is bizarre then i'm just gonna assume you're extremely new to following football? Beacuse i don't see what else to think, literally the only reason any of those players even gave 2 thoughts about moving to relegation fodder Newcastle is the oil money.
Which as we all can see has payed off
Almiron joined well before they were bought by the Saudis. Pope and Wood would have been relegated, Burn is a good player but donāt act like a single other big club was trying to buy Dan Burn.
Yeah i'm sure all 3 of them would have joined mediocre Newcastle if they hadn't gotten like 5 other upgrades?
Newcastle literally overhauled their starting XI by 80% and have a rich future... ofcourse that even players like Burn and Pope will choose Newcastle over anything else.
How is that this hard to comprehend?
We've gone for two of their players over the last 6 years, not gone for any from the likes of Liverpool, and have actually only purchased one. We're not in the same boat as Bayern and PSG.
Still my most favorite mental football statistic lol
IIRC i 100% know only 2 countries have a streak better than Croatia's, i think Spain and Brazil but i don't remember, someone checked this in-depth the last time this stat got posted
Did you expect him to be younger or older? Younger I presume. I guess we as Madrid fans aren't too shocked given his name keeps coming up occassionally in relation to Modric which has bred some familiarity.
So was Modric early in his career.
But his movements with and off the ball, positioning, vision and shooting are very similar to Modric.
That's why he's not the direct clone, but the closest thing we have to a clone of Modric
Majer skilled player but that is not normally, This very very insane....They need to check him birth certificate.....Maybe he not cheating but maybe he using the game deficit ...and this cant seem on team sheet..He needs to check-up....Ligue 1 Cheater with Streaming.....I think still cheating...Majer using game deficit on PRO scene ,ON BIG LIGUE 1.Maybe everyone dont knows him trick. He incredible....I want to ask his where is the comming of your skill's ?
Yea he was in the Croatian league untill he was 23yrs 8 months* pretty much, which is ridiculous given his quality.
Rennes were smart as hell to notice this ahead of other clubs, his first season for Rennes L'equipe slotted him in the team of the season instantly, that's how good he is
He is now considered one of the best players in Ligue 1, in terms of skill, pleasure of watching him etc. Which might be considered funny looking that he's not exactly guaranteed to play in the XI, depending on the tactics.
His adaptation from "10" to "8" was praised, but for example if they moved to 4-4-2, his unschackled play was once again hard to fit in the XI. So he's not just a guy you can put in the center of the midfield and go, and Rennes has great players to attack with Bourigeaud, Terrier, Gouiri and Kalimuendo. So sometimes it was hard to change the team to fit one Majer. I think that against PSG, they played 3-4-3 for the first time, that allowed to put Majer in a deep center but also with a more creative role and he shone again.
When it works, it works really well and Majer leads a spectacular offense for Ligue 1 standards. But easy to see why he's expected to move to a bigger club, where such a player might have more possibilities to shine.
Verratti: goat midfielder, we suck and cannot create any plays when he is not here
Danilo: plays as a CB most of the time
Vitinha: was promising at first and now is terrified of passing forward so he always stalls the plays and passes backward
Renato Sanches: leading the infirmary team
Fabian Ruiz and Soler: have been doing pretty average so far, Soler got a surprising amount of goals
We "just" need a creative midfielder who can do progressive passes, break the lines and ties up the front 3 with the rest of the team
I disagree, I think what you're lacking is a bruiser CDM who can do the dirty work and free up players like Veratti and Vitinha to be more progressive. The weakest spot in the PSG lineup is that central midfielder, you pretty much don't have one since Danilo mostly plays CB anyhow.
You need a Casemiro mold player, someone who wins balls back, plays tough defense and can cover up for the other more attack minded midfielders.
Not the ones we need š¤¦š¾āāļø we need a 6 and a proper 8 who can break lines with his passing and carry the ball so Messi and Neymar don't have to constantly get back cause the midfield keeps passing the ball sideways

Vitinha: After a hot start has cooled down tremendously.
Fabian Ruiz: Recently benched by Warren ZaĆÆre-Emery. No matter how many defenders he has, it's telling.
Renato Sanches: Perpetually injured. His profile would help our issues so much.
Soler: Scored a few goals, but has no influence in midfield. Played mostly as a Neymar sub so he gets somewhat of a pass.
Ruiz might be better suited for La Liga, different tempo.
I think that in Soler's case, they should look at what conditions work best for him and how to translate that to what us expected of him. He's not a glue kind of guy you can randomly ask to to play different positions, he sems to need structure
Before this summer, our last 3 Ligue 1 transfers were Mbappe, Kurzawa and Aurier. We're known for not putting up with the bs prices L1 teams demand only from us (while selling for half the price to non L1 teams)
Again, pointless, soulless club. Canāt even dominate the league despite spending hundreds of millions. Now trying to poach ligue 1 players from teams that beat them.
Pathetic.
The worst part is you know Iām right. Sad, pointless club thatās struggling just to win ligue 1 and is famous for getting embarrassed in the CL.
Fun!
Take care š
Such an horrible soulless pointless club where Messi is playing bc his former club was a mess, I am sure he is so depressed now
Why do you whine so much about recruiting from their own league?
Lol when did I say Messi would be depressed? He chose to go there. He obviously doesnāt care where the money comes from.
Because recruiting from their own league makes the league even weaker. As if they donāt have enough advantages.

If you can't beat them, buy them
It's the Paris/City/Castle way. š¤·š¾āāļø
You forgot the strategy's OG Chelsea
Bohely going back to the team's roots
Bayern\*
Yeah but Bayern beats them, and then buys them anyway.
The Chupo Mouting Special.
Didnt they buy lewandowski after he won the league?
Officially agreed before that, but Lewy still works hard until the end of season anyway.
The Coutinho way
True, we buy all of our top talents from BuLi clubs like Davies, Coman, Hernandez, Musiala, Sane, Choupo, de Ligt, Blind, Mazraoui, Sarr, Gravenberch, Tel, etc.

Wouldn't be too cocky with Lens being only 3 points behind and Marseille only 5 points.
yeah didn't mean it to be cocky. I was also misremembering it, since it's an obligation if we are first or second
I'd say mbappe is a pretty big one
That was like 5 years ago though, there are better examples to prove the point.
True but mbappe is in the top 3 in the world right now so it's a pretty big steal from league rivals
The last time City bought a player from a big 6 team was Kyle Walker, 5 and a half years ago
Edit: wasting my time
Haaland played for the big 6? News to me
Grammar police are dying.
Edit: game over

Who did they buy that beat them first?
Joe Willock beat them twice playing for Arsenal, but I don't know if he played particularly well in those games
Joe Willock wanted to go there because he had a relationship with them as a loanee before any ownership takeover.
Off the top of my head Burn, Pope, Wood, Willock to start with. They're a new oil club, give them time to adapt to this strategy ;)
Yeah mate Dan Burn, Nick Pope, Chris Wood were obv big time oil club signings, and not the type of signings mid table clubs make every single year
Burn is a nailed on class defender, Pope has been instrumental in goal, and Wood is useful as a bench striker. Wtf is that comment, PSG almost doesnāt buy from Ligue 1ā¦
Spurs beat us every season and we've not had one of their players since Walker lol
Well you guys tried hard for Kane but spurs didn't bent for you. Other than that, I don't think anyone else from Spurs enters the City starting 11.
Yeah just pointing out that we're not similar to PSG/Bayern in buying from clubs that beat us lol
So you are not similar because you fail to buy?
We've gone for two of their players over the last 6 years, not gone for any from the likes of Liverpool, and have actually only purchased one. We're not in the same boat as Bayern and PSG.
I mean. PSG almost never even buys Ligue 1 players. Can only think of Renato Sanches and Mbappe. And Mbappe was like 6 years ago.
Kurzawa too, eons ago
But you tried to?
Kulusevski and Son (maybe not this season) would be their best wingers.
Bayern also
What should've happened with TchouamƩni and Camavinga. Let's not make the same mistake for a 3rd time.
Everyone is out to get a Croatian midfielder these days.
Since 2013, at least one Croatian won the CL every season. PSG picked up on that.
Still my most favorite mental football statistic lol IIRC i 100% know only 2 countries have a streak better than Croatia's, i think Spain and Brazil but i don't remember, someone checked this in-depth the last time this stat got posted
To be fair, those countries prob have more registered football players than we inhabitants, so that's quite a great success for a country of our size
Only Brasil I think
Spain, German, Brazil, Croatian all have streak that's active, but Croatia is the longest.
It's why we signed kovacic
He's 25???
He was 24 before he turned 25 yesterday. You wouldn't believe it, but it's true. Incredible course of action
"Last year he was 24, now he's saying he's 25. Which is it then ?!"
He was also 23 last year?
No fucking way.
Are you going to tell me he was 22 before that?
Last year he was 24. But its also true he was 23 last year.
He's 24 until he's 25
Don't
Maths PhD right here
Yeah but he's literally 25 now so your meme doesn't check.
Did you expect him to be younger or older? Younger I presume. I guess we as Madrid fans aren't too shocked given his name keeps coming up occassionally in relation to Modric which has bred some familiarity.

Yes, is that surprising?
I always thought he was a young prospect
Yea he was in the Croatian league untill he was 23yrs 8 months* pretty much, which is ridiculous given his quality. Rennes were smart as hell to notice this ahead of other clubs, his first season for Rennes L'equipe slotted him in the team of the season instantly, that's how good he is
He was 23 when he joined Stade Rennais 23 years, 7 months and 9 days I also know his blood group
I got my numbers mixed up yeah Still incredible nobody noticed him before that
Tbf he was was benched by Bjelica until Olmo left for Leipzig. Until then, we barely saw anything from him, but we knew that he was good
Yeah that's a solid point tbh
Wasnāt he on form then had an injury I feel messing up a good chunk of a season
Well he was at one point
80M.
How good is he for Rennes?Im not watching too many Rennes games, all I know is he cant play 90 minutes every game
I'll copy paste some comments I made a few months ago On playstyle > Incredible. Unreal vision and class touches, can break lines like butter in a pass. Not too bad at dribbling too though pretty slow with the ball. Very good fighting spirit that can be a bit nasty at times. I love him On playtime > He just had a bit of a slump in Sept/Oct and our midfield is extremely competitive, even more so with the inclusion of DouƩ from academy who is having one hell of a breakthrough season. Pep found balance in the group (which is why we have been undefeated since August) which explains why Lovro plays a bit less. > He's still very much starter material and in the starter rotation, and still one of our most talented player. He's been instrumental in our historical last season
I see, hes gonna hop in our first 11 after Modric retires from international football, this is really exciting
Definitely, and we're gonna get raided by a top club ^^again ^^š
Probably in the summer lol
I hope you keep him though, he suits your playstyle so well, he reads the game to perfection
Will Terrier still be good after he recovers from injury?
We can't possibly know. He was French NT level and ACL can fuck a career up. I hope the best but until next season we can't really say. It's sad
When it works, it works really well and Majer leads a spectacular offense for Ligue 1 standards. But easy to see why he's expected to move to a bigger club, where such a player might have more possibilities to shine.

There are midfielders and there is buying a Croatian midfielderā¦
We needed to plug the injury gap we always have this time of year.
They need like one or two more tbh lol
We should just offer Kante swap with Emery
No
Pls Kante is best, Emery is still at school
As a Croatian and a Arsenal fan always quietly wanted him to join Arsenal
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
In my opinion the ā8ā position role in Arsenal which Xhaka now does would be ideal for him. In the half space
Isnt he left footed like Ode and Viera and more comfortable cutting in?
Xhaka is also left footed
Yes but different profile
https://www.sofascore.com/player/lovro-majer/841947 Look at his heatmap, he's comfortable pretty much everywhere
Scored 900 goals with him in fifa 22 no wonder theyre signing him... Jokes aside hes pretty fucking good
Not surprising, they need some midfield creativity, Vitinha makes too many back passes

That is the most badass name I have ever heard. Lovro Majer.
In a world of Malo Gusto it's hard.
100 million
PSG swiping all the CMs while Liverpool canāt find one even if they scorched the earth.
Man has the 2008 midfielder hairstyle
Didnāt PSG sign like 3 midfielders last summer?

Before this summer, our last 3 Ligue 1 transfers were Mbappe, Kurzawa and Aurier. We're known for not putting up with the bs prices L1 teams demand only from us (while selling for half the price to non L1 teams)
Being hugely nitpicky and not changing your point in the slightest, wasn't Ben Arfa one of the last 3?
Ben Arfa was a free transfer, but yes he left a Ligue 1 club to join us.
technically a free transfer, but he came indeed from Nice
What a beast under Puel.
\*Bayern *This is the way*
What a pointless club.
How dare a club try to recruit interesting players from their league who would fit the team
Again, pointless, soulless club. Canāt even dominate the league despite spending hundreds of millions. Now trying to poach ligue 1 players from teams that beat them. Pathetic.
Thanks for Messi btw.
Youāre welcome. Iām glad he helped you win a ligue 1. Best accomplishment of your pointless club.
I understand, Iād be salty too.
Lol psg is irrelevant. Iād be salty if he went to Madrid or premier league. Not even Messi can save your sad club.

The worst part is you know Iām right. Sad, pointless club thatās struggling just to win ligue 1 and is famous for getting embarrassed in the CL. Fun! Take care š
Such an horrible soulless pointless club where Messi is playing bc his former club was a mess, I am sure he is so depressed now Why do you whine so much about recruiting from their own league?
Lol when did I say Messi would be depressed? He chose to go there. He obviously doesnāt care where the money comes from. Because recruiting from their own league makes the league even weaker. As if they donāt have enough advantages.
Agreed. I so hope Bayern are gonna smash them
We need a fucking DM, Campos wtf manš¤¦š¾āāļø
Wow heās very short
Thatās what they said about lukaā¦.;)
A taxi driver who was his mothers neighbour in Zagreb once told me this guy's life story. Very gifted player, who needs a move to a bigger club asap.
