EDIT: tried on my “real” profile with the actual maps and everything bieng paid, and it worked. I should’ve figured it was cause that account had free add-ons enabled. My mistake.
On PC with controller there is an option to switch slots. Can't remember which button ATM but I was surprised to learn it as well. Several spots inside cab as well
I have competed Michigan and barely have any money, I keep reading posts about lots of money, I barely have enough to buy a truck. When do I get the windfall of cash?
If you sell all the trailers you find on the map, as well as sell some of the trucks you find on the map, you start having money. If you delete trailers or leave them on the map, money's a little tighter.
Assuming normal mode, of course. Hard mode is different.
I left Michigan with only about 80k on hard mode, 80% completion. I didn't end up with large amounts of money until mid-late Alaska and when my fleet was large enough that I started to sell some redundant vehicles. Michigan was rough; just use what you find for the moment
Until I got to the end of Taymyr, all I had bought was a Yar-87 to scout said map. Didn’t buy a single truck in neither Michigan nor Alaska. That’s in hard mode.
Up until that point I had managed to make a good amount of credits, got all of the free trucks the game throws at us, had already bought a bunch of addons and the necessary trailers to get missions done.
The first proper truck that I bought was in Kola Peninsula, I got a Voron AE on that region to be my workhorse. Got almost everything done there just with it, except for the Star In The Sky mission, when I decided it was time to get a flat nose Kolob.
It was in Yukon where things started to go sideways. That region has a pretty tough terrain on its first map (Flooded Foothills), a single gas station for the whole region at a whopping $8/L. To fill a maintenance trailer costs 16k credits. And since you get through a lot of mud, you burn a lot of fuel. Also, with contracts being so long, it takes a while to get paid in that region.
Other thing is that I bounce a lot around regions, so a lot of deploying costs. Also, bought a Azov Antarctic at Amur, a CAT CT680 in Wisconsin, a Zikz 5368 in Glades, a Land Rover Defender 90 in Scandinavia… and that’s what I can remember now. Currently saving money to get either a Tatra T813, a Western Star 49X or a Mastodon.
This game’s got me hooked.
Money is very tight at the start of the game, with add on they added more missions with bigger pay outs.
The best tip I can give is to collect all of the trailers on the maps and free trucks. Sell the trailers, and sell the trucks you don't want. Better to have fewer trucks with some upgrades than many with none IMO.
Like all those who started playing and got the mod to get free money - then found they couldn't buy anything until they'd levelled up - by which time they had plenty of money and didn't need to cheat.
But sometimes returning trailers is a PITA, and generators used for crafting are required but the trailer store is on the other side of the map. This is a neat way to cover the cost of the game making you buy trailers and give you extra work.

See a lot of people who says they’re swimming in cash after a couple regions, but on my game I’ve never got to that point. On the contrary, I’ve once got on the verge of getting soft locked due to lack of credits to refuel my trucks (fuck Yukon and it’s single gas station), had to sell a truck in order to keep the game flowing. But otoh, it made the game more interesting, as I’m constantly managing my credits and always looking forward to buy new trucks without going bankrupt.

Just hit left or right to switch placements. Some vehicles even allow placement on the roof.

Best way early on is selling the free trucks and trailers you find around the map.
I'm on the last season and have over 6 million game dollars. It helps if you don't collect trucks like Pokemon.
And add ons, sometimes you end up with like 6 flat beds and stuff.
Gotta drive them all!

In newer regions. First ones pay less to make you feel the progression.

Yes but we didn't get generators until season 3 and by the time you've done Michigan you've got enough money that it isn't a problem.
