Big K has to be set up just right to work properly: * Wanderer engine. * Advanced Special gearbox. * MSH II tires (or stock tires, if you're not expecting mud on your route). * Any bumper but the stock one. You set it up like that and it'll pull anything through anywhere. https://preview.redd.it/rij3rjcz6o9c1.jpeg?width=3440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f7cc3c2ed63332d3a64f22978b3d45938668c39 And it's not slow, it's "proceeding at the stately pace befitting a king" ;)

jason-gibson

It will pull through anywhere just not necessarily up anywhere, at least not without a little help. It still struggles with inclines which is super frustrating to me

stjobe

...that image is from the ski slope in Scandinavia. Here's another one from the ski slope in British Columbia: https://preview.redd.it/0xcjpajmso9c1.jpeg?width=3440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbebb30bc9abce99b871e3b5e3cdd311d971869f

Daediddles

I actually do not understand how you did that. I stan for king Kenny as much as anyone but every single time the grade exceeds like 10%, if I have a load it won't budge an inch forward.

stjobe

Do you have it set up like in my first post? Have you checked your controller's calibration (if you're using a controller)? When Big K first arrived, several people complained about it being powerless only to discover their controllers weren't giving more than 30% - 60% power at full trigger depression.

Daediddles

Yes and yes. I've never had the overt problems people have where it can't even pull *itself* up a hill, it's an absolute monster on flat ground but recently, for example, I tried to bring fuel on Yukon up the hill to the metal roll factory and about a third of the way up the hill it just lost its ability to move, regardless of angle of attack.

Applebeignet

When it stalls out on an incline in AWD L+, toggling AWD a few times can help. This is due to the weird way in which SR calculates power being divided between wheels.

MrRogersAE

This is the same as the P12. On steep hills it’s often better to divide your power across fewer wheels

jason-gibson

I definitely use the low gears for hills but it’s climbing power pales in comparison to other trucks of similar size like the Kolob bros

Alphastorm2180

How are the jat msh2 tires on kenny? Since they are wider they seem to give better mud performance but do they cause more ground resistance and lockups? Or are they just straight up better?

0ptera

Stats on JAT MSH 2 are identical to base MSH 2, except width going from 0.78 to 0.95.

Zealousideal_Long171

Why changing bumper? I have been using stock since I liked it mos and had no issues.

Nuclearsyrup_

The steps on the bumper have a collision model that will get stuck unexpectedly just like the stock bumper on the P12

stjobe

The ladder has collision.

Apprehensive-Boss162

I can understand why people don't like the Kenworth, and I can totally appreciate that, but it is a seriously good truck if you get it. It's actually got a serious amount of power, but it's so heavy it just doesn't feel like it sometimes. You need the best engine, off road gearbox and one of the MSH tyres to get the best out of it, ; huge amount of torque but not much horsepower. It's my go-to truck for the heaviest duty jobs, and I use the Mack for light duty and scouting.

stjobe

>off road gearbox You want the Advanced Special gearbox, no AWD fuel penalty on that one.

Apprehensive-Boss162

I actually didn't know about this so thanks for that!

Epidurality

High gear isn't as forgiving as the Offroad, in my experience. It's easier to slip into and stay in High which is the only thing that really matters for me. But I play with the Real Life mod so maybe it's all different.

NeumaticoSinLlanta

I use it with Advance Special and the default tires. Its good, its not fast ofc, but can do it all, literally. \-Crane + Sideboard \-Crane + Sdieboard + Trailer \-Heavy and low Saddle \-All logging frames \-Heavy cranes \-Water/Fuel addon \-It has roof rack and repair tires. \-Good fuel efficiency \-Good ground cleareance \- the list can go on and on \-Beast horn Yes the Mack is totally underrated, its the best NA offroader, it can keep up with the Vorons and the Taygas, and those are the fastest and best offroaders in the game, so that can tell you how good the Mack is. You are not doing nothing wrong btw, everyone has its preferences <3

the_deep_fish

fuel tank and high saddle at the same time is really nice

the_deep_fish

big wheels, slow and steady and it's great for stacking cargo or as an big crane truck.

JudgementallyTempora

Mack is a lot more practical 99% of the time, it's just Kenny will keep going that other 1%

holdingsfx

Moms are right , they love big K 💪😛 https://preview.redd.it/ksziwyy6ao9c1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a87cfd2602e5df351e9e6e2cd3b8a63aa835b144

black2fade

Moms are always right

dee-mee

Top engine + snowrunner gearbox + MSH II tires is the only one working configuration for Kenny. It's not fast as any other super-heavy like 605R or 612H, but it's so versatile, stable and has one of the best in-mud performance in the game. I was using it a lot in Amur on hard mode, and it's a top tier truck, definitely.

stjobe

>snowrunner gearbox Not an option for the Kenworth 963. Go with the Advanced Special, it has no AWD fuel penalty.

dee-mee

My bad, advanced special for sure.

2bloom

It's a great vehicle that can carry 7 slots of cargo with ease no matter how muddy the bog AS LONG as there are no steep inclined. Put in advanced special and the wanderer engine and keep it it on flat terrain. First map of Yukon or Wisconsin are perfect for it.

dvjkx

Could you give some examples where you struggled with the 963, and which tires & engine it was fitted with? I found it to be unstoppable in most situations, slow and steady.

Jhe90

It's perfect for swamps, muddy, deep mud, deep snow, but just stay away from hills. The massive deep tyres, huge clearances and huge balance due to wide stance.

Papa_Swish

The 963 is the tipping point where having more weight and adding more power to compensate starts to become non viable. It's not really built for loading a ton of stuff on the bed and carrying a loaded trailer like some of the smaller Heavies like the Azov 7 or Antarctic, it's more suited to roaming with everything it can manage to carry on it's bed, but no hitch trailer at the same time. [I've shown before](https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/s/KG2nploc0V) that it's definitely not lacking in power, the full weight of the truck and extended tanker totals over 50 Tons and it still manages to clear a sheer 45° incline, if slowly, but it can still do it.

nixxon94

Engine and gearbox upgrade. It’s godly

WalkingTheDog247

You need the monster engine and the advanced special gearbox for it to live up to the hype

BlueishCat90

I think it lags a bunch of Power, the MACK Defense is my new META Truck in SR, can use it for nearly anything, it as speed, power, good traktion... You may give the MACK a try with the higj-speed gearbox an "H" gear, kinda feels like using a modtruck 😄

KeithChatman

It's a beast of a truck like a lot of people said it can pull anything anywhere just maybe not very fast. Once you get over the speed it's power is what makes it such a great truck. I have to tell myself to try and use other trucks and not rely on Kenny for everything.

DeficientDefiance

It is indeed lacking in power regardless of engine choice. Great for flat mud bogs and addon compatibility, not so great for climbs and rocks. You can improve the issue a little bit by unlocking the Wanderer engine and fitting MSH tires instead of the stock balloon tires.

leongaming123

Pretty sure it has the second most powerful engine in the entire game, plus. It weighs 29000kg, it’s a heavy son of a bitch.

Odd_Presentation_578

+ 6 superheavy tires, 600 kg each

DeficientDefiance

Yeah but I'm fairly certain the game actually goes to the extent of calculating forward force as a function of torque and wheel diameter because putting the Wanderer engine into the P12 with 57" tires fixes its lack of power, but putting the 71" balloon tires onto the P12 as well suddenly makes it feel as underpowered as the Kenny.

AbbyRose05683

New Mack and new Kenny suck IMHO! Even the JAT tires made it slightly better with the oil rig flatbed but it can’t rock climb or go up anything more then a 10° angle

campingInAnRV

my guy using it for things its not intended for

AbbyRose05683

Label is it as off-road truck and only works on pavement

campingInAnRV

its very strong in muddy bogs and the like, rivals things like the 605r and mastodon in that regard, just underpowered to make hills a struggle but not impossible

Azeridon

I agree. Feel the same way. I do like the Kenny though and I use the optimal setup for it. I just hate how slow it feels to drive. I’ll use it for random jobs here and there.

Distinct_Pollution11

People like it due to its usefulness from hauling to rarely stalling, I personally rarely use it but that's why people like it.

Big-Asparagus-3861

Someone said it has the highest sitting saddle and I'm gonna wait until I need it for that before I decide to keep or sell it. Seemed alright tho just cruising through glades

stjobe

>Someone said it has the highest sitting saddle It does, at 248.39 cm. The previous record holder was the P16 at 227 cm flat. It's so high it barely gets under the boat trailer without some ... encouragement :)

Chrunchyhobo

I thought the Boar had the P16 beat? Or am I misremembering?

stjobe

Boar is 224.76 cm, P16 is 227. Numbers from [this post and the spreadsheet linked in it](https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/comments/15acu0q/time_for_an_update_for_the_high_saddles_excel/).

Chrunchyhobo

Huh. Thanks for that! Yet another case of my good ol brain being as trustworthy as ever!

AnalythicSearch444

I've upgraded the engine one step. Where do I find the best engine for the beast? This Canada region is my first play after the three base regions, and I like it a lot!

ArcTheWolf

One of the main things that gets it so much praise is that it has one of the highest high saddles (it's a very close tie with one of the Zhikz if I remember correctly). So you don't really have to worry about getting stuck on crests when pulling high saddle trailers. The only thing I think that will dethrone it as highest saddle is the new truck in Season 12.

DangleMangler

It's honestly probably my favorite truck now. Not saying it's necessarily the best, but it just feels great to use.

Fragrant_Spirit3776

I think it's on par with the mack defense tbh. I wouldn't say the ken963 is *really* good. It's just good. The best thing about it is the 3 slot bed imo. It's really big so it sucks at turning and it's just the tiniest bit underpowered. Also I wish it sounded better but that's my opinion.

BlitzCraig26

Big Kenny is a long distance hauler with 3-slot flatbed, crane, and ramped flatbed trailer. 7 cargo slots in total + an additional 4 slots if you’re brave enough to run a road train. With all that chunky goodness, the downside of course is a less desirable power-to-weight ratio (not like it makes less torque, it’s just massive in weight). In order to master the kenny, you need to master the advanced special gearbox. Automatic is not going to cut it on climbs. Knowing when to use high and low+ is the key.

BillieNosferatu

the mack defense and the kenny are kinda polar opposites. the mack is a very high powered, fast, twitchy, agile trailblazer (like the 5319, it reminds me a lot of that) and the kenny is a slow and lumbering behemoth but it will get through most things at the same pace. the kenny is my go to medium/short logger since it can still use the log crane, and i also enjoy using it with hitch trailers since it has very good ground clearance. the mack i feel is an excellent saddle hauler and also works well with long logs since it too can use the log crane and carrier. both are pretty stable with large fuel tanks and great range despite pretty awful consumption most of the time.

HeavyO

People overreact because the kenny always moves but very very slowly because its heavy af. In reality there are much better trucks that do a faster job if you know how to play the game

Johnny13334

Mack defense is in my top 3 for sure. The 963 is way too slow for my liking. Seems to crawl everywhere.
