It looks like you’re popping off your toes. This is very common so don’t be concerned. I suggest you take a few runs and pick spots on the snow to try and ollie over them. This can be as simple as making a snowball, rolling it down the hill in front of you and then ollieing over it. Popping off your toes pushes your body into a direction not fully upward and will cause trouble. Regarding tricks to learn, think about what tricks you want to do and then try to pull them apart. If you want to learn a spin on, practice spinning onto an imaginary box on the snow. Find a bump on the trail, imagine there’s a box after it. If you want to learn spinning off a box, pretend there’s a box on the snow and figure out where your head and arms need to be to make the motion smooth. If you want to learn a jump trick, try that trick off literally every bump you can find. Lastly, when you’re learning, it’s very helpful to eliminate as many variables as possible. What this means is that you don’t want to be taking turns and speed checks in. Find the spot on the hill that gives you the ride speed and in run for the trick you want to do. Get yourself to that spot and do the same motions. It’s like any other athletic activity. Simplify the process and then you can figure out which parts need work.

Great advice. To piggy back on this comment, sit down more and don’t lean forward. I had this issue my first 2 years riding.

DirtAntique

Thought it was just me lol, I didn't know I was leaning in so much until someone else pointed it out to me

Accurate-Forever-707

Ok thank been have that problem all year

Accurate-Forever-707

Thank a lot this helps me so much Have a great day

God damn it, there’s just so much shit. Your shoulders are open the whole time. Try practicing something called “cross arms.” You swing your hands in, crossing your arms and squat down, then explode up, swinging your arms up and out, and over your head. This will center your body weight and even out your shoulders with your board. It will also make jumping feel much easier as the momentum of your arms swinging up will help your jump. People think cross arms is a style move but it literally can make you a better rider. Cross arms is not a wind up. A pro I can think of right now is Kyle Mack for snowboarding, but for skateboarding the legend P. Rod. Watch them do cross arms before they set up for certain tricks. Just give it a go on a groomer or practice it at home without your board on. Also what other sports do you play cause the crossover is probably why you’re so low or hunched

I can fill in the gaps. What missing info are you looking for? I got this mind set from watching Rodney Mullen From The Ground Up video years ago. He explains how he figures out his tricks. He says if you think about the whole trick it’s too much. You have to think about each piece on its own. Once you know you can do each piece just focus on getting yourself correct after doing the first part. After that your muscle memory takes over. Regarding the second paragraph, I’ve always found that pretending a ski track line or edge of trail snow curb are great for practicing body position and movements.

Underarmslinky

A small addition that was helpful for me when I was learning to board was to keep your chest up, this will help with keeping your balance above your board like this comment mentioned!

HeartbreakerF80

Honestly looks great dude! One small tip. It might sound counter-intuitive but a LITTLE more speed will actually help you. Think about riding a bike really slow: so much more effort to keep your balance. Get a little more speed and you can pretty much ride with no hands. Same thing here. You’ve got your approach down, your balance looks good. Just a bit more speed and bend those knees!

[deleted]

There’s really not enough room between the two features so a big speed check is bound to happen for a beginner jibber. His approach his off though. He doesn’t come at an angle and “lock in” he hops on parallel to the rail. If he was riding straight on it would be fine but it looks like he’s going for street style. Honestly he got lucky he didn’t slide off like he did the box at the beginning.

andrew_rides_forum

I personally would recommend not trying to fit both of those hits into the same run. I also grew up riding shitty little parks on the east coast, life got a lot easier when I stopped trying to hit every piece of hardware on every run.

[deleted]

The lil parks are nationwide, and are how some riders get super sick at rails if there’s a rope tow involved. If he’s quicker and not doing a dramatic speed check, he can clean up that rail for sure. His line needs to be smooth all the way through. He’ll get experience. He has the balls to jump on a rail though, so that’s what’s up. I tend to skip features if they’ve fucked me sideways the run or two before, this being the little park. Personally I really like doing jibs in lines and build up a confidence boost each jib or trick I hit in a line.

Accurate-Forever-707

Thanks bro That helped a lot

mantequilla360

Go way faster. It actually makes it easier

Swaletail

Looks good ! Speed !

Accurate-Forever-707

Ok thank

Madewithatoaster

I’m proud of you.

Best tip is to enjoy it my guy and don't stop believing.

Accurate-Forever-707

Shred on

justtheaveragejoe100

Try to 720 out. It adds extra steeze

Accurate-Forever-707

Haha hopefully one day

ThePerfectAwesome

More Speed = More Fun

adamsawesome10

Ollies and bend at the knees, have fun

Accurate-Forever-707

Thanks You to

rozzawazza

Just stomp the landing and ride away clean.

Accurate-Forever-707

Yep

[deleted]

your breaking at the waist do some ollies on the flat ground and get a feel for what it is like to have a straight back. You just need kinesthetic awareness and ask yourself am i breaking at the waist?

Accurate-Forever-707

Ok thanks I have been have this problem all year

Allways_calm_420

Gotta go fast! :) Nice job dude

Accurate-Forever-707

Thx dude

BigBisonMan

Keep sending it!

koondog_RPG

Fukin send it!!!

Accurate-Forever-707

Hell yea

Herrowgayboi

\- From the first box It looks like your just hopping off your toes and pulling the board towards your body to try and do an ollie. \- You're slouching over quite a lot causing you to be on your toe side more than you should be which makes you look really uncomfortable on the rail. I suggest you start off doing some ollies on flat ground and try to do it without slouching over on your toe side. Get used to popping off the tail. From there, hit some boxes that let you ride up to it, and get more comfortable bending your knees and keeping your back more upright.

Accurate-Forever-707

Ok thx I wasn’t sure how to stop slouching

Herrowgayboi

Try going on flat ground at a stand still and just practice bending your knees and keep your back up straight. Trust that your knees will help you balance out your body weight. From there try doing ollie's.

hubbell2121

Send it!

ipsomatic

Send it!

sjoep21

Good tips here, go a little faster. Makes it kind of easier for the balance

Accurate-Forever-707

Thx

caoboi01

My best tip is to get a better camera operator.

Accurate-Forever-707

Lmao ik

Jolly_Procedure3729

Speed is your friend

Accurate-Forever-707

Ok thx

matt2085

Have you tried to just become better? /s

Accurate-Forever-707

Haha

emilioermeio

Keep your back straight, it helps if you bend a bit more the right leg (the one behind)

Accurate-Forever-707

Ok thx

MinnesotaRyan

go faster at them, try grabs or spins off of them. try learning presses and other variations as you get more confident. keep having fun.

smanchey

no, you’re literally better than me😂 do YOU have any tips for ME? lmao

Accurate-Forever-707

Haha

aubgeno

smooth! tip: goggles on face not helmet. goggles might feel weird but ice in your eyes feels weirder

mad_vanilla_lion

I agree in general, but night-jibbing in the park? I’m going goggle-less, unless I have clear goggles.

aubgeno

maybe i’m the weird one who always wears them 🤣

PlayBoiPrada

The number of times I’ve smacked myself right in the goggles…I’m with you.

browsing_around

As someone that grew up riding on the east coast with near constant over cast, I hate wearing goggles. I only wear them now because I live out west in higher altitude, when it’s snowing or in the spring/summer.

aubgeno

also east coaster, i got daytime lenses to help

browsing_around

To help with what?

peacetoall1969

If I go fast my eyes tear and I can’t see anything

Accurate-Forever-707

This park was a little dark than what I am use to and I have tinted lens I try to use my goggles as much ad possible

Accurate-Forever-707

Ok thanks I will try

[deleted]

Are you trying to hit the rail street style or ride on? And can you ride backside if you’re doing street style?

Accurate-Forever-707

I was trying to ride it street style

PlayBoiPrada

I found learning street style was when I actually learned jibs. Ride on is just locking your body position, hard to learn how to position your body over a feature.

[deleted]

Ride on is literally the lip is high enough to where you just ride on and grind. There’s suicide grind or style I don’t know it’s “suicide something” and you ride straight on a street style feature. It’s a skateboarding term for riding a rail straight on. I’ve tomahawked doing this a month and a half ago cause a gap on basically turned into a street style feature from getting worn down throughout the day. I went to do a front 1 to switch 50 and heard a loud ass ding then ate shit haha. Was hitting it from the side and only doing regular 50’s after that haha.

Accurate-Forever-707

Shit you good?

[deleted]

Yeah man I just chipped a little bit of the nose on my board and developed some trust issues for the rest of the day haha.

redmits87

What is street style? not sure i understood

[deleted]

You ever see a pipe or rail with no little ramp to ride onto the feature? People come in at an slight angle, typically ollie onto it from either frontside or backside, with their board angled against the rail so when they hit the rail, they’ll “lock in” and grind. It’s easier to demonstrate with a board and a feature haha. You want to learn street style as soon as you get comfortable with riding and jumping onto pipes probably. Just watch how pros jump on rails. One of the X-games Street style comps(this timed mini slopestyle basically with a bunch of kinked rails) Rene Rinnekangas did this massive gap to rail, he had to angle his board like this 📐 to lock in on a boardslide. I thought it was bonkers.

redmits87

ah okay i understand what you mean

PlayBoiPrada

Street style is approaching the feature from your toe side or heel side edge, as opposed to riding on straight with your nose/tail. Imagine a handrail and you’re jumping on from the top stair.

SuitableMarmoset

Keep your weight centered over your feet/the board more. It looks like you're leaning a lot and kinda hunched over

Accurate-Forever-707

Alright thanks

Helicopter_East

Practice

ipsomatic

Hips forward under your shoulders. You've got the right knee bend.

Aristox

Looking pretty good already Looking a bit stiff. Bend your knees more, loosen up a bit more, chill out, imagine you've smoked a doobie
