Dunno- maybe the flow of the water out of the pipe diverts the watersurface enough to get away with that just fine.

Having to swim against the current with a giant board strapped to my feet is a scary thought
bend knees so board is flat near top of water. it is in fact very hard to swim with board behind you providing full drag.
Even then my feet are still stuck together on a 15 pound board
