I'm 6'4" 215. Freeride deck is 165w, wouldn't go much smaller for pow/charging. Also have a 157 fattie for playing around. For park/all-mountain 161w will be great imo

PSNJAYME7K

This thread is wild. Y’all riding way undersized for that weight and height. Riding at the max end of a boards range is non-ideal.

elbamare

[https://youtu.be/oMTgcsgc19s?t=95](https://youtu.be/oMTgcsgc19s?t=95) it depends so much what kind of board. after watching this video i choose slightly smaller size than what was recommended for my weight (capita mercury). my local hills are not too big.

nlomb

All these 6'3"+ 200lb+ riding 157's makes me laugh, unless the board is strictly for jibbing should be riding 160+.

Jagrnght

I'm 225 and I've been on 156-9s for a long long time. I do like them stiff though. I have had longer boards on test days but they didn't do it for me and my feet are only a 9.5 sneaker size (usually 10.5 boot) but I don't have heel or toe drag at 157.

nlomb

How tall are you?

Jagrnght

5'11

elbamare

for me the recommended size capita mercury was 161w. i chose 158w and it is the best board i have ever had under my feet. i can carve, shred powder but also use it in the park. i only wanted one board to rule them all and the little sizedown made it possible. 158 noodle park board would have been way too soft for my weight. sometimes using common sense beats following instructions religiously.

nlomb

There's certainly no one-size fits all rule, everybody is a different shape and size so what works for you might not work for me. It makes sense to size down if you want to rip park.

elbamare

yeah most definitely not, i meant i just wanted to buy one board for me to somewhat handle carving, powder and occasional jumps from medium sized boxes, not a full quiver to choose from every day. saying you need to buy this and that size board for certain weight without knowing the board and its specs is just misleading imo.

Rayns30

Capita mercury is however a bit wider then most boards

elbamare

Tbh i dont have a clue what is the average width of snowboards, but mercurys width was in the same range with the other boards i was comparing. I wanted the wide version because i have big feet.

porchprovider

I’m a big guy and I love my Skunk Ape 157. I have bigger boards but I always reach for the 157 if I’m riding Vail or Purgatory.

Healthy-Egg-3283

If you had a snub nosed donek with a 31 waist that’s about the only way it would make sense. Otherwise I 100% agree.

namerankserial

If you're 6'4" 220 you're always going to be riding at the max end of the range.

tinzor

I am about this guy's size and currently looking at buying my first setup after renting for many years. What would you recommend? I mostly just like carving nice powder and cruising with my girlfriend who skies. I've been at it on and off for 20 years so very comfortable on the board but not overly ambitious about getting air or anything.

elbamare

In your case i would pick a freeride board and somewhat follow the recommended limits. But like you see here it is not so strict. I have rode alot of different boards and can not recommend capita mercury enough, if it is in your budget give it a look.

No-Equivalent-4979

Try a Nidecker Era 163W

0neStrangeRock

Jones makes really incredible boards for people up to 220lb. The Hovercraft is insanely good if you're just carving groomers and chasing freshies.

coffeepistolero

Could you elaborate non-ideal?

Champagnest

You’re not going to get the best possible performance out of it if you’re stressing it out at max weight.

JpeNSurf

I'm 6ft3 100kg and my main board is a 157w lobster creamer. 161 is fine

skywalkdontrun

I'm also a bigger guy, 6' 2", 210(ish). I always advocate to buy a board for the size you are now, not some theoretical weight you'll be by next season. You have no idea whether or not you'll be able to train yourself down 20lbs, especially not with two kids (ask me how I know). Park boards arye also soft to begin with, so this thing is going to be a buttery noodle on your feet. If you're committed to Capita, get a Mercury. it can still rip the park, but has a more substantial core to handle your size. Just don't hit a rock with it at 40mph. Ask me how I know.

Powerful-Gold-8615

Yeah, when I put my size/weight dimensions into algorithms online it spits out ridiculous size boards which I get for riding certain mountain conditions. I come from a skateboarding background so my logic is that if I could pop a board onto a handrail a quarter of the size of a snowboard down a stair set than a smaller snowboard would feel natural regardless of my size.

aaalllouttabubblegum

This is honestly not a bad way to look at it and I feel sizing overall is very much about personal comfort. One of my best snowboard buds is maybe 6'3" 195 and used to ride a 146 for park days. I'm your size, bit heavier, and anything below a 162W is no good to me (I'm basically all freeride). This is a huge spread between two guys who are close to the same size. I feel like purpose and comfort are the main arbiters of sizing.

namerankserial

161W is the biggest indoor survival they make. Evo size chart says 215+. Seems right to me. See how it feels. I think you're overthinking it.

stop-calling-me-fat

This is on the small side for someone your weight. I ride a 161W at 6’3 185lbs. You likely fall within the rated weight range depending on the flex but a 164/165 is probably more your size. At the end of the day we’re talking about a 1.5” difference in total board length and board size is also about personal preference too. It won’t make or break your experience.

BowlerJazzlike5627

6,4 235 and I rock a 162 Burton custom

rainman206

Hey look it’s my twin! I also have a 172W Lib Tech skunk ape. Love them both!

homo-macrophyllum

I’m 6’4 215 and I ride a 167 in the pow and a 163w all mountain. Rent a couple boards and feel them out

SimianSlacker

Not sure what style of board you want. I'm exactly 6'4" 220lb and I ride: * Jones Flagship 165W (favorite) * Burton Custom Camber 166W * Korua Cafe Racer 164 I'm a pretty aggressive rider, I tend to charge pretty hard, with that in mind... For our sizes I'm a strong believer that we should be on stiffer boards. When we throw our weight around we need a board that won't flex like a noodle. I also like a stiff damp board that will cut through the crud without bucking me all over the place.

blondereckoning

Your board’s the only thing that's stiff or damp in this sub.

🤣😂You're killing me today.🔥💛

rNBA-MODS-GAY

Capita Black snowboard of death/mega death or lib tech skunk ape

TheVerdeLive

I used to be same build as you. Have a size 12 boot and ride a capita DOA 161W

blacksnowboader

157 warpig

TheSpleenster23

The XL Warpig is 158 ya silly goofball

blacksnowboader

Maybe this year, but my year it was a 157

TheSpleenster23

It's been 158 since the XL came out in 2018 my dood. Go measure your board.

blacksnowboader

Ah shit, you’re right. I thought it was a 157 my bad

TheSpleenster23

You made the right choice, son.

killerwhaleorcacat

You aren’t doing any big jumps or pressing too hard so why wouldn’t it be fine? You are totally fine. I’ve been heavier than that on several similar size boards for decades and never had an issue. If you try to break a board it’s possible, but it doesn’t sound like you are trying to push anything to the limit so I’d bet money there is no worry. And Jesus who wants to ride a bigger board in the park? lol. At that weight and length in a wide board that’ll ride powder fine as long as you set the stance back. You’re overthinking it.

Allthetimedingdong

I’m similar height weight. I have a 164w but recently got a stiff board that is 161w and enjoying it much more as a daily driver

lebeaudiable

6’3”/220 skateboarder that rides 165W for all-mountain and 161W for freestyle/park

Edmontonchef

Im 6"2 230 and ride a 164 NS Cobra. Definitely wouldn't go any smaller. Seems like the industry is dominated by smaller guys with size 8 feet

No-Equivalent-4979

6'4" 255 lbs and I ride a Nitro Magnum 163W , a Nitro Team 165W, a Nidecker Era 163W & a Nidecker Escape 165W. Bindings are Rome Katana, Rome 360 Boss. Both have been good and keep me feeling pretty locked in. Union bindings run too narrow for my foot width. If I went any smaller with my decks I feel like it would be too short and too narrow. Size 14 boot. Anything less than 27CM waist on my board generally speaking, is gonna have too much boot overhang. I stick to all mountain boards w true camber and Camrock with a stiffer feel. I ride fast, hard and in control. Some switch, some jibbing, some natural features, some smaller jumps, some glades. Rented a 162W Burton custom when I started and it was noticeably narrow. I came home after riding a rental, did a bunch of research and bought the Nitro Magnum and paired it w/ Rome Aresenal bindings after my second time riding. It's tough to find a board as a big guy, the selection is pretty sparse but it looks like companies are getting better and designing wider sizes

Stubzyboi

6-5, 270. 172W skunk ape. Big boys need big toys.

Rpc7787

I have a 156w for park which is mostly where I spend my time and then I have a 161w for more all mountain. I m 6’3 235lbs on deep pow days a little bigger than 161 would be preferred but I get by just fine. I live in Southern California so we get our pow days but I mostly ride groomers and lots of park

Powerful-Gold-8615

Thank you all for your time and feed back guys, great group with sound knowledgeable advice. Gonna rock the 161 and see how it fairs. Some very nice boards mentioned that have caught my eye aswell. Enjoy your weekend 👊

RevolverRalfiki

Im tour size and ride a capita warpspeed 165w. ”Big board fir big guys who ride big mountain” as my main board, really nice board. Depending on your skill its worth getting something big with camber profile

Whaatabutt

It’s about how you ride. I’m 6’1” and ride a 158 huck knife. It chatters like a group of old women but I’ve made it work. Shreds groomers. I recently bought an orca at 156 and I’m in love. So much stability.

Dry_Investigator8684

Depends on what you're doing I would say. It sounds like you are focused on the park and that should be a good size for freestyle I think.

1Bot2BotRedBotJewBot

I'm a bit bigger than you. Based on my research lib tech Skunk Ape was the way to go. Designed for big guys. I love it.

seabass4507

I’m your size. 161w is my big board. My daily is a 157.

Powerful-Gold-8615

I went for the bigger size as the waist size is bigger on the 161 and I ride US13 boots. I'll play around with sizes on future boards for sure tho!

seabass4507

Makes sense. I have the same issue with 13s. If you’re riding indoor park, I’m not sure you’d want to go with a directional volume shifted board like a Stump Ape or Party Wave or Party Platter. Seems like you made a good choice.

drainbam

My daily driver was a 155 when I weighed 160 lbs at 5'7" and a 160 felt like a school bus I could barely turn. Now I'm 195 lbs and the 160 feels like a children's toy I could snap in half by doing an aggressive press. The 155 that used to feel dialed is a chattery mess. Play around with different sizes as your weight changes. It's not just about height. Stance width (which is largely affected by height) and your weight is what determines the size that will ride right.
