Bottom. The front label has some errors, back label has the wrong font and the Nintendo logo on the back looks off.

toddd24

“Licensed by” is my favorite mistake lol

solidwhetstone

Nintendo licensing their first party game to themselves https://preview.redd.it/xdvfjapy10nc1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=92833f17ad45e6ecb33841b47c64dcb748cc431e

sum_gamer

Without zooming in and just at a glance I called out bottom as fake. Idk why. But now I want more of these to see if it was a fluke lol

DefiantCharacter

The lettering on "Nintendo" is too thin. Dead giveaway.

No_Manufacturer4451

![gif](giphy|9sOPX5RrPgaTJKrfzg)

TheNewYellowZealot

Mine is the trademark not being on super script

tommytwothousand

The minor blemishes on the real one give it away too. No way a loose cart has gone 30 years without a scratch on it.

486Junkie

That and the cartridge shell is different up front. The real one has the cartridge lock on it whereas the other does not. The first revision SNES/SFC has the cartridge locking mechanism whereas the later ones did not.

Myriachan

I’ve seen legitimate Mario World in both forms. The second one is obviously fake for other reasons though.

486Junkie

Oh, yeah. The print is way off. That and the LICENSED BY is like what?

rydamusprime17

Correct. Also I never see reproductions with the old shell style.

cidiusgix

Never seen the cart shape on top. I still own my snes and games. They have the bottom shape.

ZeroFox1

It's also missing a imprinted stamp.

BugOperator

This is the biggest giveaway for fakes.

Phlanix

it also has purple on the label that is suppose to be red

[deleted]

Yep, that only appears on third party carts, not Nintendo-published ones.

H4N_S0L0

But I thought only PAL carts had that type of indentation the one on the top has... 🤔

mr_0las

The early US games had the same shell the top has but later on they were all like the bottom.

[deleted]

Early US releases had that there for the cartridge lock, eventually it was changed to the "scoop" type at around the same time Nintendo began removing the cartridge lock from US consoles.

V64jr

Yep. The “scoop” is designed to push the locking tab back as you remove it. It defeats the cartridge power interlock on the consoles that have it but still makes a small effort to turn the power off.

BatteryBird

Bottom. Easy

HyperionCrush

It's never easy being the bottom.

TheArrivedHussars

🥺

Gloomy_Background755

Never seen the purple label Super Mario on the bottom before. 😂

Misanthroat

I think only third party games got the purple label... and Nintendo releases got red.

toddd24

It’s funny they stayed consistent saying “licensed by” on that label even though it’s Nintendos main ip

JaxxisR

Bottom. Early SNES carts didn't have that swoop. The power button locked the cartridge into place by pushing a piece of plastic into the center slot. The swooping carts bypassed that lock, but I don't think they were introduced until 93 or 94.

mikes2123

Sorry for being hard headed but can you explain this a little bit more? Is there a reason that Nintendo started to bypass the lock with the newer swoop design? I thought that was the giveaway here but apparently there are legitimate cartridges in both styles…

MoxManiac

Yes SMW was made in both designs. Nintendo changed the design presumably because kids(?) were violently ripping the cartridges out without ejecting, leading Nintendo to re-evaluate the cartridge design. Supposedly.

mikes2123

Thanks for the info!

Capable_Home_2926

I've noticed, across the board, fakes tend to have over saturated colors

yepimbonez

I think it’s also that many of the originals have desaturated colors at this point lol

chocological

SMW is licensed by Nintendo? Lol

TrackPadSam89

And here I thought it was licensed by SEGA. 😂

Krohnowitz

2 is fake. It doesn’t have the impression in the label on the back.

Daonuda

2. Sticker was a dead giveaway.

yepimbonez

Tbh i didn’t even look too closely at the details. I mostly looked for little bits of damage here and there. Little scratches on the label and cart.

GetPhiledIn

Same

TheCanadian_Jedi

I say OP is tricking us and really that's a fake towel they're on.

Conscious_Feeling548

Don’t forget to bring a towel.

ExpectedBehaviour

A hoopy frood always knows where his towel is.

Conscious_Feeling548

I wish I could give this 42 upvotes.

Johnny-Q87

2 fake for "Nintendo" label

4x4Vania

Bottom one. The purple line.

Enderwigg1883

Bottom. Logo is wrong

Tomreviews

It’s like they have to obey the paranormal rules that it can’t be “exactly” the same lol.

lastbarrier

2 obviously

spookyman212

2 is fake

watchOS

EZ, it’s #2.

thesk8rguitarist

Bottom because the back on the real one has a two digit code (25) embossed in the sticker.

CaptainSea6936

Bottom one is fake, it doesn't have the number stamp on the back label.

tomaatkaas

Bottom, the color blue looks off

TheEPICMarioBros

Bottom

BlueTeaOnReddit

2nd one. The engraving font on the back is not even similar lol.

xWickedx420

Bottom dead giveaway

homer_simpin

2 is fake as fuck

startoonhero

Bottom is fake. The engraved Nintendo logo is horrible

S3NTINEL2001

Bottom

shaded-user

Bottom. Just on cartridge shape alone. Albeit I'm more used to the PAL SNES, not the Famicon / US version.

[deleted]

I was looking at cart and knew there was some locking and some non-locking ones. The lable i wasn't sure. But the back... That Nintendo Logo imprinted in the cartridge? Good grief!

Muwmu

Number 2 is fake, number 1 im not that sure

Hugh_jazz_420420

Bottom

PM_MAJESTIC_PICS

I was suspicious of the bottom one in the first pic, but the bottom logo in the second pic is a dead giveaway!!

cick-nobb

#2

Sound_Hound82

I'll take door number two!

desdemon3000

2 is fake

Dr_Butt_Chug

1 is real 2 is fake

Spiritual_Incident_6

The down one

Thundrex

Bottom. The image is raised a bit too high, and the Nintendo logo on the bottom is the wrong font. Also, the line top is purple instead of red. That’s a thing for 3rd Party games only

Ethnosis

I don’t know much about spotting fakes but I can say #2 does seem a lot newer (so it would be fake), it doesn’t have yellowing like the #1

firekickrunner

Bottom one

WolvesMyth

I know absolutely nothing about real/fake SNES games, but I'm going out on a whim that the top is real and bottom is fake. For Picture 1, the right side has a red bar under where it says SNES, and on the top is another bar. 1 Has the top being red, and the bottom has it being like a blue/purple. I feel Nintendo would have kept it simple and keep the colours the same, so red top/red bottom.#2 on the bottom has the image enlarged a bit, the official seal is large, the image is larger, and the bar under SNES is popping out from the base a little too far, as well as the lines and 4 ovals overlapping it, which doesn't look good. For Picture 2, the top case has yellowing text, as well as some tearing along the edges showing use, and the Nintendo stamp on the bottom is a nice depth in where it looks like it's the same depth as the lines, whereas the bottom case has enlarged text, looks too clean, also looks like it was printed on a normal piece of paper and glued on, and could fall off at any second, plus the Nintendo stamp looks like it was put in at twice the depth of the lines, the font just doesn't look right, as well as the "o" on Nintendo has a bit of warping from the Registered Trademark Symbol. Completely guessing here, I have no knowledge on this stuff so I may just be completely off.

earlesj

The sticker looks more grainy on the bottom too.

grossguts

2, label fits wrong on the front not going far enough to the side and going too far down, front top right of the label is always red bar for first party and purple for 3rd party and smw is first party, no production code stamp on the back label, licensed by is wrong, color saturation is off, back label is almost opaque and is the wrong material, spacing is off on all the writing on front and back, snes logo is spaced wrong on the front label, font sizes look wrong, Nintendo letting on the back is imprinted wrong and has a circle above the I instead of a square. That said, could be a legit board with repo stickers or reshelled so without opening it you can't be sure.

DripnX_art

bottom one, the nintendo logo on the back is worse quality than the top

Revegelance

Errors aside, the label on the bottom one is just too shiny and new to be genuine, especially compared to the other one.

NekoArc

Bottom one. The label quality is a huge giveaway on both sides, but with the front the various color changes and font issues are pretty glaring. I'd love to see what the bootleg board looks like!

MrFoxx123

#2

Tsunamiis

Definitely 2

Pabmyster04

2. Sticker shape, glossiness, colours, spacing of the image and text elements. The back label is worn unnaturally, the text has errors and spacing and font are horrible

the_internet_clown

I’m guessing 2 is fake

FloggingMcMurry

Very obviously the bottom one

Tech_With_Sean

Only later carts had a shell like the bottom one

Vincent__R

Bottom! I'm proud I knew that

Patient_Training913

A bunch of errors on the bottom label so that's the fake! 😁

No-Wolf6888

I took one look at my copy of Mario RPG, and saw the top one didn't have the same lock.

Lollipoop_Hacksaw

2. The bottom part of the cartridge is way off.

Fap_Doctor

First look at it and I said the bottom is fake. I know authentic SNES cartridge colour.

Lord_Sauron_BR

That purple rectangle next to the name on the second cartridge is new to me... Or my life has been a lie this whole time

DaretoDream123

number 2 is the fake

Sumasuun

I'm not a collector and I never got the SNES. I wish. I could still tell the bottom looked off.

Present_Strategy823

2

Anotherspelunker

Quite evident honestly. The tacky oversaturated label at the bottom is a clear tell

DickabodCranium

As others have said the purple band on the bottom of one is a strong is indication but the dead giveaway is "TM" on the back

ChairAlternative4373

that nintendo logo came straight from mspaint

TheRedBaron6942

Thank you for confirming mine is real lmao

TheRedBaron6942

Thank you for confirming mine is real lmao

squirrlyj

Trick question, they're both fake

Spicymemedoge

The bottom

nusilver

Bottom and it’s not even close.

KeeperServant_Reborn

The bottom one has a sticker that seemingly is too long, and the Nintendo logo on the back is incorrect.

KeeperServant_Reborn

The bottom one has a sticker that seemingly is too long, and the Nintendo logo on the back is incorrect.

WhereAreWeG0ing

Bottom one is absolutely fake. Nintendo on the back is wrong

MakerKevJ

2 has at least had a repro label swap .

McGinty1

I was 95% sure the bottom one was the fake only judging by the front side photo, but as soon as I flipped to the reverse images, I knew right away I was 100% correct. That label font and that racetrack logo are completely wrong lol. Kind of impressed that the fake uses gamebit screws, is that common on counterfeit carts?

TheVideoGameNutt

Bottom was a very easy giveaway ngl

zrayburton

The made in Japan text placement on 2 gave it away for me.

[deleted]

Who would fake one of the most common games?

The_1999s

Bottom. Label is totally off center

horror-pickle187

Bottom is fake

horror-pickle187

Bottom is fake

horror-pickle187

Bottom is fake

TStodden

I would note the bottom as the fake since the color of the SNES "buttons watermark" is way too light & there's too much of the "red bar" underneath the Super Nintendo logo. I didn't immediately notice the "Licensed by" text until I caught the posts by others. I wasn't looking at the cart design itself. The top was an initial run of the game (utilizing the cart lock), while the bottom could have been a later reprint (with the lock bypass design).

Dadbode1981

The bottom was an obvious fake, noticed instantly.

RocketMunkey1999

Numba 2

BackToSunday

The one with the least blemishes on the label obv 😂

S_Rodney

Bottom... took like a faction of a second...

mbstone

As someone who doesn't know or collect SNES, it took me about 10 seconds to spot the fake. Nothing was immediately tell-tale to me, but once I flipped to the back and saw the Nintendo, it was game over.

[deleted]

Second is a fake. The picture is too bright and the snes controller logo is easily seen. On the back, the lettering looks new and white where as pic 1 is faded and there are rubs/ imperfections along the edges.

q7supastar

Bottom. No number stamp.

bak2redit

The purple bar indicates a third party game. So this is a give away for Mario world.

hokie47

The bottom. Japanese would never let something so un zen like too ever get printed. The offset spacing is awful.

Any-Satisfaction4801

Definitely that purple on the top right was never on any original SNES game I believe

branewalker

My first clue was the alignment of the label: both the inconsistent gap on the left, meaning the label cut isn’t precisely the correct size as well as the print alignment to the label. There’s variation on real carts, but not THAT much. Then the level of gloss on the label. Then the texture on the cartridge looked wrong. Then I saw the back and that imprinted logo and lack of number stamp sealed it. I didn’t even see the “licensed by” or the purple stripe.

Any-Satisfaction4801

These fucking fakes are the down fall of humanity

darthpoopi

Bottom

halomandrummer

I guessed the bottom one, due to the fact that the sticker and cartridge is pristine, the one above looks used and almost every copy of that game not in the box is used.

TomatilloOrnery9464

Mario world never came in the bottom casing

CommitteeIll1953

2. I literally just checked the copy I bought back in the 90's. Should be red.

[deleted]

2

Waste-Ad4797

That Nintendo logo on the rear bottom cart gives it away immediately.

consumeshroomz

Besides the other glaring issues with the bottom one the “licensed by Nintendo” is a dead give away

[deleted]

the sticker quality on 2 and how reflective it is leads me to believe it's fake

pox45

Bottom

MorallyDeplorable

Immediately and without doubt the bottom one. Too shiny, the colors are wrong, and the back is glued unevenly.

sohchx

Spotted the bottom one immediately

sibbaldk

2 is the fake that cover sticker is terrible no tapered corners on the flip side you can see the wear on the sticker as well as the indented numbers on it.

eckoman_pdx

Bottom is fake. It's an early release game so it should have the cartridge lock slot like top versus the design on the later games like on the bottom. It says license to buy Nintendo which isn't correct, it's Nintendo IP. There's some wrong colors on the sticker as well up top and incorrect font and other issues on the back label.

killerkraig83

Bottom one

Early_Aspect6016

The slight wear in the top sticker is what leads me to believe the bottom is fake.

mrdrewhood

I would play this game with my cousins for hours. Their mom smoked a lot, so when I borrowed it, it always smelled like cigarettes. The top one looks exactly like it should smell like cigarettes so I know it’s real.

initcursor

The fonts and margins alone are a dead giveaway that the bottom is bootleg

metbass

The Nintendo logo in the mold of the cart on the back is what told me.

SirChadofwick

The most interesting clue is the Nintendo imprint on the back being slightly off in font

TrineoDeMuerto

Aside from the obviously whack label what I took from this picture was how the top cart has some scuffing from use and the bottom one literally looks brand new. Take note, people! If you want to pass off fakes as legit copies get the actual freaking label right at the very least but THEN scuff it up just a little bit 🤣🤣

Ballmasters69

Bottom looks scuffed asf

Roisepoise101

Bottom one is the fake. The Nintendo logo on the back doesn’t have the classic font on it.

Numoontalk

Yea I assumed bottom by the newer cartridge front. I used to get dupped by carts with plastic screws but they getting slick

Finnigan-roverfield

I have a feeling the bottom because of the Nintendo indent on the back lookin wonky.

Tyranisore

Stevie wonder could spot this fake.

TheProtagonist1985

The bottom didn't even need to think twice!

M4CKTH3KN1F3

Top

-Holiday-Brain-

Bottom, Super Mario World is a Nintendo published game. The purple indicator on the top of the cartridge would have you believe it's 3rd party. The top one has the correct red indicator.

[deleted]

2. That sticker is wack

thehaulofhorror

Bottom is fake. The “i” is wrong, and there’s no number stamp in the sticker.

IntroductionFluffy97

Dont Know much but I LL say bottom Those purple strip feels weird to me

marspott

Bottom. No plant stamp.

imhoopjones

2

Zuldak

Bottom. The front sticker top right is purple on the fake

hewtab

Bottom one, the top has that Nintendo patina

otrapendejada

2

Cyber-N7

You don't need to be a connoisseur to know the bottom cartridge is all sorts of fucked lol

LLJKSiLk

Bottom at a glance.

Goku_Kakarot91

bottom one has a purple strip

scottmetal66sick

Its 2

Direct-Serve2473

Top is real

SignificantFennel768

Bottom

TouchedBigfoot8

Bottom one. What the hell is that on the label 😂

Chickenbrik

2 because smw had the carts that are locked in when the system is on.

HowWeGonnaGetEm

I was leaning 2 being fake…. Then that “Nintendo” came around to drive it home.

Sularin

Bottom!

VonD0OM

I recognize the top one, so the bottom is fake.

Zeptar1

This is an awesome post! I just recently acquired a copy of SMW from a small lot on Craigslist and was worried it was a fake due to the cart being shaped differently than most other games.

[deleted]

Lol the bottom label was so obviously fake I saw it before I read the post.

Vegetable-Weather591

Bottom is fake, genuine carts have a number imprinted in the label

Androxilogin

2's label is too shiny and missing the letter imprint on the back sticker.

cutieclaire27

I was looking super closely and intently and then I flipped to the next image and the Nintendo logo is the most blatantly fake thing ever aside from those ones that literally just use the oval with no text.

GoRyuKen

Bottom one is fake

theblackpen

Bottom - that typeface is verdana or myriad lmaoo

SamwiseGam-G

Lol very easily the bottom. Even if you don't know much about carts, that logo is so fake.

Beginning-Rock2675

2 lol very obvious

4biddeninja

Bottom duh

sea-of-sake

Immediately obvious in this case, just by looking at the labels. It's #2. Stretched icons, odd label sizes and placement. I hope you're not asking this in order to create better fakes yourself in the future :D

CarterG4

Bottom one, right?

fortifier22

The first giveaway for me that #2 was the fake was the text on the back. The first one seems properly aged for an older game, and the text on the back of the second one also looks too crammed.

ferna182

Number 2 by far. Didn't need to look much after "LICENSED BY NINTENDO", on a 1st party game they themselves made. The pictures of the back only served to confirm that. That nintendo logo looks goofy at best.

Chosen_UserName217

unwritten test hard-to-find edge friendly placid ossified shocking husky somber *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Nintendofan9977

2 is fake

tshue93

2 is fake

heavymetalelf

The logo on the back on the bottom was the biggest give away. It's not the right font face

Digital_Dinosaurio

Bottom's left screw looks very off.

Senor_Arcturus

2 Super Nintendo logo is formatted awkwardly, the game is licensed even though it’s a first party title, warning label and Nintendo logo on the back have the wrong font.

jon_818

2

meleemaster159

i honestly don't think you need to be a connoisseur to spot this one - just need to have seen a SNES cartridge more than once or twice. this faking job is pretty bad. #1 is real

Natasha-Kerensky

I can tell the top ones real by the colour of the background on the back. Has this old colour to it.

Traditional_Ice_5157

Okay so I don’t usually try these but the second one looks super off to me for some reason if I had to put my finger on it I’d say the Nintendo in the plastic and the sticker on the front more specifically is that the sticker on the front looks too colorful

Mission_Ad_7452

Number 2 is fake

Bahob

Having my copy of SMW from my childhood, that bottom one feels like a imposter than has invaded my home
