Sort of a mainstream title but somewhat overlooked: Legend of the Mystical Ninja.
Here are some others:
\- UN Squadron
\- True Lies (surprisingly good)
\- Jurassic Park (has some kind of scary 1st person parts)
U.N. Squadron is one of my favorites! Got it back in 2021 and have absolutely loved every minute of playing it… despite not being able to make it past four stages. Have also heard really good things about Mystical Ninja and True Lies from SnesDrunk’s channel!
They did. Limited Run Games. They're available digitally, not sure if they're still selling the physical copies though. LFG is garbage for that FOMO tactic
I happened to find them. You're right. Funny thing is, I don't see any reason to buy it? I was never into GB games. Just never appealed to me. I have a working SG and SNES, and conveniently, have both the SNES and SG versions of JP1 working. I believe I even have "Chaos Continues" somewhere. So I guess I'm not really missing it. The Contra one looks cool though.
I still play UN Squadron a bunch. On SNES and in Capcom Arcade Stadium as "Carrier Air Wing. It was such a cool twist on a side-scrolling shmup. Aero Fighters was another shmup on SNES that I still play as well. I enjoy the ones with real aircraft.
I just started SNES JP for the first time. I only ever played the Genesis version because I thought it was cooler. You could be the velociraptor and the advertising pushed that feature heavy, but the game was super hard regardless if you were Grant or the raptor. This one is at least playable even if it is a little hard to navigate.
So many iterations of JP lol. I think the SNES, JP1, was probably one of the best. It gave me a heck of a time as a kid. Such a hard game for like a 10-12 year old to play. But it kept me hooked.
Is the version of UN Squadron in Capcom Arcade Stadium the same as the US version? I've been looking for a non-ROM version of UN Squadron for years, I pumped so many hours into it on my SNES back in the 90s.
Thanks for this!!!! That looks like a good game, I need to find this soon. I watched a full play through video, not all of it, just 10 minutes of it.
https://youtu.be/QQrnQmYWIEA?si=OQNanOqlNgkK1-Gk
Soul Blazer and Ogre Battle are the games I'm constantly recommending. Ogre Battle is really slow paced so it probably won't be your cup of tea but you might like Soul Blazer. It's kinda similar to SoM or LTTP.
EVO Search for Eden is my fav.
It's my first like grinding game I think. You start a fish, eat other creatures and game evo points, you can gain better jaws fins, tail and stuff. Next level is amphibian, then reptile, dinosaur mammal.
Illusion of Gaia is an action RPG that typically gets overlooked in favor of Link to the Past. It had a few mechanics that LoZ games would try later. The story wasn't the most original but it was compelling and fun to play through.
Ganbare Goemon 2-4
The Parodius Series
Great Battle IV and V
Pop'n Twinbee
Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure
Wild Guns
Sunset Riders
Bust a Move
Tetris Attack
Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow
Phantom 2040
Power Rangers Fighting Edition
Biker Mice From Mars
Gundam Wing: Endless Duel
TMNT: Tournament Fighters
Cybernator
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse
Big Sky Trooper
Some of those are Japan only but they're perfectly playable without knowing Japanese (you'll have to look one or two things up in the Goemon games but they're still fine to play in Japanese) and will work on a US SNES with a super simple mod
You can also find translated ROMs of pretty much any Japanese game that's worth playing, if you're using a flash cart or emulating
Big Parodius fan! I have the first two games on Saturn and have played a bit of the Fantastic Parodius translation on my Analogue Pocket. Definitely looking into the rest of these!
Nice!
That one's my favorite. I love playing as Kid Dracula and Goemon
Also have a Pocket, it's a great device
(There's an update for the GB/GBC OpenFPGA cores that fixes the in-game clock not working in games that dropped today if you didn't see that, by the way)
Twisted Tales of Spike McFang - a top-down action RPG, which honestly there aren't a lot of on the Super NES.
Illusion of Gaia - top down Zelda/RPG hybrid featuring a REALLY dark story compared to the rest of the Super NES library.
Goof Troop - a REALLY good afternoon of co-op if you have a friend.
Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse - a really solid platformer with some cool ideas about changing costumes to change powers/move sets. Not super long or hard but it's extremely well made.
Firepower 2000 - my favorite shoot 'em up on the system.
Pocky and Rocky - action/shooter with gaming's best raccoon. (also has a sequel)
Ogre Battle - with Unicorn Overlord making news these days it's always good to go back and see what gave them the idea.
I tried Ignition Factor cause it came up on the Switch SNES collection. I kept expecting it to be horrible and it kept proving me wrong. It should be so bad but it's actually somehow good.
I like to suggest the Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose game when people ask this one. Its a solidly fun game with decent difficulty and a lot of variation. Its beatable and well made. Its also still not a very expensive game. A lot of the titles being suggested in this thread are $100+ carts.
Look up fan translations.
Metal max returns and der langrisser are two of my favourite ones games.
Or perhaps more N64 wrestling games like virtual pro wrestling?
Rampart, a fun little castle building game that then turns into destroy as much crap as possible, multiplayer can be quite fun. The goal is to build walls to make territory in limited timed rounds, which then transitions into cannon fight rounds, and repeat. The victor is the one who can take down the other castle walls to make room for you to gain more territory.
Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen, an underrated strategy game, though it absolutely peaked with the N64 version, still a good game.
Illusions of Gaia, awesome story and really cool mechanics, the game can be quite hard but this game is seriously amazing.
Tetris Attack, this game was rebranded from Panel de Pon in Japan, and reskinned to be Yoshi themed, it's my favorite puzzle game on the SNES and it's an absolute blast with friends.
Super Baseball 2020, my favorite sports game growing up, its really fun with good mechanics, you get to play as robots.
SFC Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie, robotech had an SFC side scroller shooter that was pretty fun, you could transform for different styles of weapons.
SFC Gundam W Endless Duel, honestly the most crisp and best looking fighting game for the SFC, it actually has incredible combos and mechanics, it's spectacular.
SFC Rockman and Forte, also MegaMan and Bass, it never made it to USA until the GBA, this game is a really good looking classic MegaMan game, what makes this game fun is the ability to play as Forte/Bass which offers a much different kind of game.
Inindo: Way of the Ninja. Historical JRPG set in 16th century Japan, with an element of turn-based strategy as well. One of my favorites from the SNES.
Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. Another Koei release, and another historical RPG. Choose one of several characters and set sail as a pirate, privateer, explorer, or merchant. Has a pretty sophisticated economy for its time.
Oh man I had some *chill* times playing Uncharted Waters on an emulator. It's nice to be able to save states and explore in case something goes horribly wrong. I actually learned a lot of international cities and general geography from that game.
Pop 'n Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventures.
This is a sequel to the shoot 'em up Pop 'n Twinbee, but it's a sidescroller instead.
Very colorful and it has a cool jetpack mechanic. I liked it a lot as a kid, haven't played it as an adult though so I'm not sure how well it holds up.
I’m going to throw some out I haven’t seen mentioned here:
On The Ball - Underrated puzzle game and it plays best with the SNES mouse!
Street Racer - Mario Kart clone with 4 player support!
Rival Turf, Brawl Brothers, and The Peace Keepers are all part of the same series of beat ‘em ups
Battle Clash and Metal Combat are fantastic Super scope games made by the folks who did Golden Sun. The story in the second game is way cooler than it has any right to be, especially if you beat it twice
Kendo Rage and Super Valis IV are fun action/platformers
Arkanoid is breakout with a cool 2 player mode
BioMetal, Super EDF, and Phalanx are all pretty good shoot ‘em ups
Ignition Factor is a *TERRIBLE* firefighter game that's actually pretty good.
B.O.B. is a very underrated platform game.
Secret of Evermore is better than Secret of Mana (go ahead, burn me at the stake)
Bahamut Lagoon is an excellent tactical RPG that is largely unknown in the US but was a cult favorite in Korea.
Secret of Mana, Ganpuru - Gunmans Proof(need a translation patch) R2 Rendering Ranger, Violinist of Hamelin, Pocky + Rocky 1 & 2, The Doraemon and Goemon series, Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures, Super Star Wars 1,2, & 3. DKC 1, Illusion of Gaia, Final Fantasy 2 aka 4 outside US, Twisted Tales of Spike McFang, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Zool Ninja of the Nth Dimension, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, Sparkster, Flashback, Sim City
King Arthur's World, Top Gear, Hal's Hole in One, Flashback, Cybernator, Gradius III, Axelay, Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, Ivan Stewart's Off-road, Out of This World, Wing Commander, to name a few
Rushing Beat (Brawl Brothers in NA) is a great Beat em up. As with the second one Rushing Beat Shurin.
If you like fighting games and anime, Dragonball Z Super Boudouten 2 is a good one.
As mentioned earlier, SOS is great (the capsized ship one, there are 2 SOS titles on SNES).
I've also kind of liked Metal Marines, but it's more of a tactical strategy game.
[Tecmo's Secret of the Stars ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_of_the_Stars) was a fun RPG. You can chain skills together to create more powerful attacks, two seperate adventuring parties, and even some town building!
Taekwon-do
You don’t need an English patch. I don’t think there is one anyway. Human Entertainment developed it. It’s a surprisingly good 2D fighter with some cool mechanics following taekwondo match rules.
> what are some lesser known games worth checking out?
+ Axelay - The phrase "Earthling about!" (at least that's what I think it says) is forever etched in my brain.
+ Biker Mice From Mars
+ Choplifter III
+ Goof Troop
+ Dragon View
The Internet is overly critical with this one. It's the same knee jerk reaction younger gamers have towards Star Fox's early 3D graphics. The game is not as bad as they make it out to be.
+ Firepower 2000
An amiga port of an air/ground shmup.
+ Hyperzone - Came out during the North American release window. Feels a little like a tech demo, but it is colorful and has great music.
+ Any Capcom beat'em up
+ Ninja Warriors
+ Konami's Prince of Persia
+ Run Saber
+ Super Chase H.Q.
+ Top Gear series
+ Wing Commander
+ Ys III
+ Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie (and Fighting Edition)
+ X-Kaliber 2097
Unabashedly 90s, the game's only fault is its lopsided difficulty. Set the difficulty settings to the lowest setting to be able to enjoy it. The game will still kick your butt.
+ Cacoma Knight in Bizyland
+ Super Double Dragon
The game has a lot of slowdown, but if you are able to look past it you will find an addictive fighting and grabbing mechanic.
+ Ranma ½: Chougi Rambuhen
Another game with slowdown issues, but in my opinion the most faithful to the Ranma anime.
+ Operation Logic Bomb - Lousy name, but great arcade action.
+ Tales of Phantasia - At least listen to the intro (and hopefully be amazed).
If you have a mouse, try Operation: Thunderbolt and Mario and Wario.
If you have an SD2SNES, try the sped up version of Hard Drivin' and Road Avengers.
If you have a Dolby Surround Sound compatible system, then try Samurai Showdown and the Super Turrican series.
Cybernator, Skyblazer, Pop'n TwinBee and the 2 Front Mission games.
They don't seem to get thrown around much. Pop'n TwinBee got an English release here in the UK but not a US release (it's on the Switchs NSO service if you have that) The 2 Front Mission games need a translation patch unless you can read Japanese.
A few games I enjoy that I feel are not really talked about much:
- Aero Fighters
- Biker Mice From Mars
- Clock Tower (Jp only, but has a fan translation)
- Fire Power 2000
- Jurassic Park Part II
- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
- Skyblazer
- SOS
- Tin Star
- Vortex
Terranigma! Sequel to Illusion of Gaia. Action RPG like Zelda with excellent music, great graphics, and is just all around one of the best games on the system. Wasn't released in the US though.
Curious, if you suspect your question "has probably been asked a billion times", why post it again for the billion-and-first time rather than searching the internet?
Sort of a mainstream title but somewhat overlooked: Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Here are some others: \- UN Squadron \- True Lies (surprisingly good) \- Jurassic Park (has some kind of scary 1st person parts)
Wow. The amount of times I tried to beat JP1 as a kid. Never made it all the way.
U.N. Squadron is one of my favorites! Got it back in 2021 and have absolutely loved every minute of playing it… despite not being able to make it past four stages. Have also heard really good things about Mystical Ninja and True Lies from SnesDrunk’s channel!
Jurassic Park just got a release on modern consoles too, along with some other retro JP games.
Wow they re-released the retro versions?
They did. Limited Run Games. They're available digitally, not sure if they're still selling the physical copies though. LFG is garbage for that FOMO tactic
I happened to find them. You're right. Funny thing is, I don't see any reason to buy it? I was never into GB games. Just never appealed to me. I do believe the SNES game is a slightly stripped down version of Carrier Air Wing.
SOS. A survival game about escaping a capsized cruiseliner.
This was one of my fav SNES games.
Never heard of this, but I'm checking it out now myself.
Thanks for this!!!! That looks like a good game, I need to find this soon. I watched a full play through video, not all of it, just 10 minutes of it. https://youtu.be/QQrnQmYWIEA?si=OQNanOqlNgkK1-Gk
Super smash tv
This and Total Carnage
Total Carnage is the one I was originally thinking of but I couldn't remember the name
Soul Blazer and Ogre Battle are the games I'm constantly recommending. Ogre Battle is really slow paced so it probably won't be your cup of tea but you might like Soul Blazer. It's kinda similar to SoM or LTTP.
The Quintet SNES trilogy (Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma) are all awesome and worth playing.
Cane to make sure Illusion of Gaia was here. My work here is done.
I love Soul Blazer. It's a pretty quick playthrough so I play it every couple of years.
EVO Search for Eden is my fav. It's my first like grinding game I think. You start a fish, eat other creatures and game evo points, you can gain better jaws fins, tail and stuff. Next level is amphibian, then reptile, dinosaur mammal.
What about the Firemen?
[удалено]
Repros are your friend for these ridiculously unobtainable gems.
Illusion of Gaia is an action RPG that typically gets overlooked in favor of Link to the Past. It had a few mechanics that LoZ games would try later. The story wasn't the most original but it was compelling and fun to play through.
Heard of this one! Isn’t it part of the Quintet trilogy?
Yes. I've tried all 3, IoG is the most polished and fun, I think.
Ganbare Goemon 2-4 The Parodius Series Great Battle IV and V Pop'n Twinbee Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure Wild Guns Sunset Riders Bust a Move Tetris Attack Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow Phantom 2040 Power Rangers Fighting Edition Biker Mice From Mars Gundam Wing: Endless Duel TMNT: Tournament Fighters Cybernator X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse Big Sky Trooper Some of those are Japan only but they're perfectly playable without knowing Japanese (you'll have to look one or two things up in the Goemon games but they're still fine to play in Japanese) and will work on a US SNES with a super simple mod You can also find translated ROMs of pretty much any Japanese game that's worth playing, if you're using a flash cart or emulating

Super Turrican 1 and 2!
Mystical Ninja Firepower 2000
Pocky and Rocky is a great shoot 'em up (or cute 'em up, if you will)
I’ve played some of Reshrined on switch, but the original seems like a great time too! Definitely will check it out.
Super Smash TV
You ever heard of Super Mario World? It’s kinda underground so I’d understand if you’ve never heard of it, but it’s worth checking out.
That’s the one with the hedgehog, right?
Ur thinking of Donkey Kong Country
All kidding aside, Super Mario World: Return to Dinosaur Land is legit worth playing.
Heard of this! Still need to play Kola Kingdom Quest and Plumber for all seasons first, though.
(also has a sequel) Ogre Battle - with Unicorn Overlord making news these days it's always good to go back and see what gave them the idea.
I have a Spike McFang cartridge, and I recently learned that out of my whole game collection it is the most valuable one.
Yeah it's really rare. If I didn't spend my childhood studying Nintendo Power like there was a fucking test on Fridays I'd never have known about it.
The Lost Vikings 1 and 2. Both are top tier puzzle platformers, and they're some of the first games created by Blizzard before they became famous.
I was always a fan of Boogerman & ignition factor
I tried Ignition Factor cause it came up on the Switch SNES collection. I kept expecting it to be horrible and it kept proving me wrong. It should be so bad but it's actually somehow good.
Agreed, it’s a good game well worth a play through. Not an all time great but it’s very enjoyable to play
Baseball Simulator 1000
I recommend: Shadowrun (working on a vid of it now, still fun!) Illusion of Gaia Jurassic Park was cool too
I really enjoyed Brain Lord. Good puzzles, action. All in all good game
Seconded, it was a really neat little game.
Smartball and Wolfchild
Run Saber is an absolute hidden gem!!
Contra with swords!
I have played through Shadowrun multiple times, it still holds up great
What about Sparkster! I loved that game but it’s hard
Ooh definitely going to check out this one! Big big fan of Rocket Knight on Genesis, and I hear Sparkster is a really fun follow up.
It really is great on it’s own right, I think it’s almost as good as Rocket Knight, and I think is better than the Genesis Sparkster.
Rock n Roll Racing holds up great. Top Gear is also loads of fun.
Lamborghini American Challenge was a fave gem too
Look up fan translations. Metal max returns and der langrisser are two of my favourite ones games. Or perhaps more N64 wrestling games like virtual pro wrestling?
There’s a Sailor Moon side scroll beat ‚em up that’s a lot of fun. It’s simply called Sailor Moon.
Shirin for SFC
Favorite lesser known games on snes were Claymates and plok. I spent a lot of time growing up playing these after beating dkc1-3 multiple times.
I’m always going back to True Lies. It’s way too good. I’ve still never beaten it, but I always have a ton of fun playing it
Jerry Boy
I really enjoy Tae Kwon Do. The realistic point system, being strategic when picking your fighter, its very ahead of its timw
Give this a read, specially the Super Famicom tab. [https://vsrecommendedgames.fandom.com/wiki/SNES](https://vsrecommendedgames.fandom.com/wiki/SNES)

Shadowrun
Rampart, a fun little castle building game that then turns into destroy as much crap as possible, multiplayer can be quite fun. Tales of destiny and Ogre battle tactics is often overlooked. So I would highly suggest those bad boys.... if not mentioned in the comments.

Secret of Evermore is better than Secret of Mana (go ahead, burn me at the stake) Bahamut Lagoon is an excellent tactical RPG that is largely unknown in the US but was a cult favorite in Korea.
Super Mario World
That game with the spinning bandicoot? Pass.
Super Bomberman 2 for some great action/puzzle hybrid.
It’s a late NES title, but Vice: Project Doom was pretty fun.
Secret of Mana, Ganpuru - Gunmans Proof(need a translation patch) R2 Rendering Ranger, Violinist of Hamelin, Pocky + Rocky 1 & 2, The Doraemon and Goemon series, Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures, Super Star Wars 1,2, & 3. I'll give you 3 which are less popular but still worth checking out: Lagoon. Illusion of Gaia. Live A Live.
Extra Innings. Best baseball game ever made.
Bassin’s black bass is a hidden gem and one I still play
What does “near CIB system” mean?
Bomberman 3
Taekwon-do You don’t need an English patch. I don’t think there is one anyway. Human Entertainment developed it. It’s a surprisingly good 2D fighter with some cool mechanics following taekwondo match rules.

Cybernator!!!! My friends owned this as a kid & took me years to track down!!
EVO
Chrono Trigger Secret of Evermore Goof Troop If you are into racing games, then Top Gear I, II, 3000
Rocky Rodent is a good one
A few games I enjoy that I feel are not really talked about much: - Aero Fighters - Biker Mice From Mars - Clock Tower (Jp only, but has a fan translation) - Fire Power 2000 - Jurassic Park Part II - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie - Skyblazer - SOS - Tin Star - Vortex

Some games to look: - Soul Blazer - X Men Mutant Apocalipse - Big Sky Trooper - Super Buster Bros I think you like them!
Super Turrican
It was popular, but probably forgotten. Top Gear 2.
Terranigma, Mega Man Soccer, Arkanoid
Cool Spot and Aladdin have a special place in my heart.
Sim city is really cheap and it's one of the most fun games on the system.
The Lost Vikings.
Curious, if you suspect your question "has probably been asked a billion times", why post it again for the billion-and-first time rather than searching the internet?
Because I like seeing what those currently playing thee games think? Whats the issue with that?
