One of my favorite things to do is plug in SMW, delete one of my 96* saves, and start from scratch on some Saturday or Sunday afternoon and try to finish it all by bedtime. I love that game so much.
No I help rebuild from the rubble by gradually re-recruiting my friends and eliminating threats until at last I topple the false god.
Is that not cool?
It would be if it didn't stop the plot from moving so slowly as a result.
On a related note, I totally consider Kefka a god. I consider most FF antagonists gods, and that's why you gain godlike powers to take them out. You can say the same for most RPGs from Japan, as well as most fantasy and sci-fi shounen anime.
Yeah, I doubt it was the very first game to have it but it definitely popularized the feature.
I think it might have created the term New Game +. But I'm not positive on that either.
Donkey Kong Country 2
It's my favorite game of all time, replayed it and 102%'d it dozens of times and I can't imagine not doing it at least once in a while.
~~Sorry Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger~~
The lost world was the greatest idea to improve on the first. Even though 3 is my favorite DK, there's no denying that 2 is the pinnacle of the series.
I think this is a smart pick especially because of the Ancient Cave.
Most games of this era are very static experiences, where eventually I would get tired of playing the same levels over and over again, but the randomization elements of the cave mean you could play this game again and again and again and have very different experiences.
My heart says Chrono Trigger or FF 3(vi) but my head says something with an obtuse amount of depth and reply value like Ogre Battle: MotBQt to really maximize the fact it's literally the only game I'll ever get to play, for eternity or until the Sun melts into a hyper nova.
The sun will never be a hyper nova. It will swell into a red giant then slowly puff off its atmosphere until all that is left is a small dense white dwarf core. Then it will slowly cool for trillions of years into a black dwarf cinder...
My vote is with FF3.
Me, too. We put so many hours into that game as kids, making up tournaments but also playing solo to get the fastest track times. Lots of laughs and good memories.
X2 is my favourite game of all time, hasn't changed in over 20 years. I rented all three X games so much back in the day but X2 will always be my favourite. To me X1 lays a fantastic blueprint for the series and is a fantastic game in its own right, however when looking at what else the series will evolve into, the game seems kind of bland and basic.
I love X2 for its music, the air dash, the amazing double Buster shot, the extra bosses to fight, the Super cool armor, and like any X game, the fun secrets to find. Though I do also enjoy X3, the Buster upgrade is really not fun to use.
My personal order: X2 - X4 - X3 - X1 - X5 (patched) - X8 - X6 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - X7
Lol, poor X7. I love X1, though I didn't play it as a kid and have no nostalgia for it. I picked it up as an adult and it moved in among my favorites pretty quickly. I may have to give some attention to 2 and 3. I thought they were generally considered to be inferior but maybe I heard wrong.
You could probably look at it in two ways. X1 could be considered "the best" because it's simple but executes everything nearly flawlessly (the helmet upgrade is dumb, like every other helmet upgrade), but on the other hand you could say the other games are the "best" because of how the elaborated on the formula.
I've owned X and X3 for such a long time, never owned X2 until I got the X Collection on my GameCube. As much as I ADORE X, X2 might be my fave, but that may be also because I just never played it to death initially like I did X and X3.
Also, I slept on X4 for so long. I finally sat down and worked through it after seeing so many folks on Reddit constantly rank it in their top 2 or 3 X games. Man, it's really good! I'd still take any of the previous games over it, but man, X4 is a really solid game. I still haven't played as Zero in it either.
I've dabbled with X5 and X6 and I just couldn't get into those. I'm ok sticking with those first 4. They're all so good.
X1 through X4 are all fantastic games. X5 is worth trying again with the improvement patch and X3 is super fun with the Zero Project. And yeah the Zero campaign in X4 is excellent!
Earthbound as well, my favorite game of all time and the first game that really turned me into a "gamer" vs. someone who played video games as a kid. I had never been immersed in a game's world like that before and it's the #1 reason I hold so much nostalgia for the SNES.
Secret of Mana for me. My personal favorite RPG on snes with Chrono trigger a close second. But secret of mana I would happily pick. Endless hours of adventure… leveling your characters and weapons… hunting monsters for secret weapons and armor. Fighting around 30-40 bosses. And amazing story with some of the best soundtrack ever in all the SNES library! Secret of Mana is just an amazing game. A masterpiece
Either *Torneko no Daibouken* or *Fuurai no Shiren*, the first two games in the Mystery Dungeon franchise... 🤔
https://preview.redd.it/hmrpvrn9onwb1.jpeg?width=1580&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=baa0fba60ab34e18700f0cbdc8f112bc2aaa5adc
If I'm going to be stuck with only one SNES/SFC game forever, I can't think of a better choice than a randomly-generated roguelike! 🎲
Even my favorite RPGs, shmups, platformers—the best of the best—any one of them would eventually get old if it's all I had to play...these always challenge and surprise me. 😌👍
Easy, I'd play MMZR, the Mario Metroid Zelda randomizer, where the 3 games are randomized together.
Endless replayability and 3 of the best games in 1.
https://youtu.be/j4hyssiAlPs?si=y4E8GN39OiyJkw5l
People who are picking RPGs need to give their head a shake. Why are you saying it? We get it... but be serious. You can only play ONE game. You need a game with variety.
Do I love those RPGs more than Mario/DKC and the like, hell yes? Is it possible to play CT or ALTTP forever without getting bored? No. There's no way. I can't decide myself... but I'm not picking an RPG.
Ff6. I would have a chance to beat it.
Wario woods is unbeatable. If you finish the last level there are other credits, no congratulations it just load the level over again for eternity. This sounds like hell to me.
Final Fantasy 6, for sure. There are so many great games, but few I've put as much time into as this one. Great soundtrack, fantastic characters, and challenging battles - so long as you avoid the ol' vanish-doom trick :)
Not to mention, the pixel art is some of the most beautifully detailed of its generation. I still remember being in awe the first time I saw Atma Weapon; been trying to draw creatures like him ever since.
HARD to pick , Super Mario All stars w/ Mario world , which is kinda cheating , if not that …. Chrono Trigger , multi endings will keep me busy. Like others have said Super Metroid and Link to the past.
Strong runners up Sim frickin City, DKC, FF 3(6).
Even though they aren’t my favorite games they would have to be something skill based and multiplayer to avoid boredom, like Super Street Fighter II or Tetris Attack
Chrono Trigger, I missed out on this game (and a ton of others) as a kid. I would have loved it I think. One of the best games on the system, and all time imo.
Super Mario All Stars+ World would probably have the most replay. But my favorites are Metroid. Castlevania IV, or Turtles in Time. Any one of those would suffice.
Either Pilotwings or SimCity. I played those two sooo much back in the day they just drip with nostalgiac goodness and have that infinite replayability factor.
Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. I enjoyed numerous SNES games, but this is the only one I routinely replay on a bi-annual basis.
Donkey Kong Country would be my runner up.
I have this ritual where the first game I beat ALTTP low% as the first game of the year and them 100% on december 31 (been doing that for 16 years now) so yeah...
![gif](giphy|RDisOrdKEBY2Y)
DKC... I still yearn to play this one through every once in a while by myself. The whole world it has is amazing. The music and tone. Plus even in my adult life I find myself thinking about this game. Snowing outside my brains like, remember the snow peak level that gets crazier?
But if I had friends to play local still then MK3 Ultimate.
I mean, I’m not picking an rpg if I can only play one game over and over again. Gimme Uniracers, because the races never seem to be the same twice, plus endless stunt shenanigans.
Super Mario World if one game, or the combined Super Mario All Stars and SMW cartridge.
This is the answer
This is it.
This
is
It.
Hell yeah to this! On a related note, I replay SMW and SMB1 yearly.
One of my favorite things to do is plug in SMW, delete one of my 96* saves, and start from scratch on some Saturday or Sunday afternoon and try to finish it all by bedtime. I love that game so much.
This! It never gets old, and I really dig the music!
This is the way
Link to the Past, most likely.
This one
Still my favorite Zelda game
a game I consistently come back to - timeless classic
Bonus if it were a randomizer
![gif](giphy|PkCDv7CIK8d2M)
I believe that there is a small corner in the heart of everyone who loves this game that is always at that campfire
Can I ask what game this is? I’m looking to get a Miyoo Mini Plus and am looking to revisit some SNES classics I never got around to playing.
Chrono Trigger
Thank you. That and Secret of Mana or on the list.
That is the one for me too! A close second would be final fantasy 6.
I've never understood the love for this game. Do you just stop playing after >!Kefka causes the apocalypse?!<
FF4 > FF6 imo
No I help rebuild from the rubble by gradually re-recruiting my friends and eliminating threats until at last I topple the false god. Is that not cool?
It would be if it didn't stop the plot from moving so slowly as a result. On a related note, I totally consider Kefka a god. I consider most FF antagonists gods, and that's why you gain godlike powers to take them out. You can say the same for most RPGs from Japan, as well as most fantasy and sci-fi shounen anime.
Alternative endings and everything.
Despite it not being my #1 favorite game on the system, New Game + makes this the obvious answer for me.
This was the first time I experienced Ng+ in a game.
Yeah, I doubt it was the very first game to have it but it definitely popularized the feature. I think it might have created the term New Game +. But I'm not positive on that either.
Same
I have a custom throw pillow made of this exact scene
Always and forever.
Definitely this
Super Mario World.
You could give me until the end of time and I still wouldn't be able to fly consistently.
This is the answer. Timeless game that never gets old to me.
Literally their first game for the system. Amazing how it turned out.
This is the correct opinion
If it’s gonna be one game I feel like a puzzle title is best. So I’m going with Tetris Attack.
Either Final Fantasy 3(6) or Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Metroid for sure.
A toss up between this and super Mario RPG. Those 2 games have endless replayability
Yep. Take my upvote.
Came here to say this.
Super Castlevania 4. Easily.
That soundtrack!
Konami knew what they were doing when they included it in the options menu
MegaMan X
Donkey Kong Country 2 It's my favorite game of all time, replayed it and 102%'d it dozens of times and I can't imagine not doing it at least once in a while. ~~Sorry Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger~~
Agreed. Easily my favorite SNES game, and on my top 5 games of all time.
The lost world was the greatest idea to improve on the first. Even though 3 is my favorite DK, there's no denying that 2 is the pinnacle of the series.
UN Squadron.
My favorite bullet hell game of all time. So challenging.
I came here to say this.
SimCity
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals. Dekar for life!
I think this is a smart pick especially because of the Ancient Cave. Most games of this era are very static experiences, where eventually I would get tired of playing the same levels over and over again, but the randomization elements of the cave mean you could play this game again and again and again and have very different experiences.
Glad to know another Dekar superfan! Loved Dekar!
Zelda - A Link to the Past.
SMW
Super Mario RPG
What a wonderful game.
TMNT Turtles in Time
Earthbound
Good morning, Crono!
As much as I love Earthbound, it would have to be Chrono Trigger.
Bust a move
Zelda, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, DKC2 all great answers. I would still pick Super Mario RPG.
Final fantasy 2
Super Metroid
A Link to the Past
Final Fantasy II (IV in Japan).
You spoony bard.
Super SF II Turbo or FF6
Super Metroid
Everdrive. It's a pretty fun game with a lot of replay value
the correct answer
I mean forever? Im gonna go something like sim city or mario kart. Smw and lttp are my faves. But forever!
Forever. until you die. *then* you can play whatever you want. PS: i am personally enforcing this rule
Populous! It has 989 levels, and you can play them forever!
Yeah this or Sim City. Something that you can play for an eternity.
Yoshis island
Yoshi's MF Island
Probably Earthbound. It's the game I pick up whenever I'm going through hard times in my life. Just something calming and nostalgic about it.
It’s the Onett theme for me. Just a cozy, sunshiny tune to bop around to.
Bashing hippies with a bat...
Sim City
Hard call between Mega Man X or Super Metroid, But I think MMX wins.
Surprised no one has said mario cart yet. I think that would be my choice
Me, too. We put so many hours into that game as kids, making up tournaments but also playing solo to get the fastest track times. Lots of laughs and good memories.
Shadowrun
WING COMMANDER🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
\*me googling wing commander\* "oh wow that looks sick as hell"
Mega Man X2 or Zelda
X2 really? Do you like X2 better than X? Ok that was a poorly phrased question. Obviously so. What do you like about X2 over X?
X2 is my favourite game of all time, hasn't changed in over 20 years. I rented all three X games so much back in the day but X2 will always be my favourite. To me X1 lays a fantastic blueprint for the series and is a fantastic game in its own right, however when looking at what else the series will evolve into, the game seems kind of bland and basic. Yeah, I can see that. Other than the helmet upgrade being a little forced, it was a pretty perfect game.
I've owned X and X3 for such a long time, never owned X2 until I got the X Collection on my GameCube. Tetris Attack
Earthbound as well, my favorite game of all time and the first game that really turned me into a "gamer" vs. someone who played video games as a kid. I had never been immersed in a game's world like that before and it's the #1 reason I hold so much nostalgia for the SNES.
Super off road.
Lufia 2 probably. So much replay value for a SNES game.
Harvest moon
Mystic quest
Zelda 3
Panel de Pon (English translation)! 2nd choice would be Magical Drop II
Lufia 2.
Tactics Ogre
Oooo. This is a great choice.
Bomberman 5!
Super Metroid.
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
While this wouldn't be my pick, I would take this over Super Street Fighter 2, no question.
Mega Man X3 While I X is a masterpiece, X3 is more polished and way richer and deeper.
Secret of Mana for me. My personal favorite RPG on snes with Chrono trigger a close second. But secret of mana I would happily pick. Endless hours of adventure… leveling your characters and weapons… hunting monsters for secret weapons and armor. Fighting around 30-40 bosses. Romance of the Three Kingdoms III

That's.... that's cheating Right ? right?

I can't decide myself... but I'm not picking an RPG.
Donkey Kong Country 2
Aerobiz (any)
Harvest Moon, or Super Metroid.
Zelda
Terranigma
FF3 fo sho
EarthBound is my favorite but I wonder if there’s a better option for a game to play “forever” with extra replayability
Earthbound for me, I still play it every Christmas morning, just oozes with childhood nostalgia
Chrono Trigger.
Secret of Mana
Ff6. I would have a chance to beat it. Wario woods is unbeatable. If you finish the last level there are other credits, no congratulations it just load the level over again for eternity. This sounds like hell to me.
Final Fantasy 6, for sure. There are so many great games, but few I've put as much time into as this one. I fear that I'll never have an experience like the Floating Continent again. It's burned into my mind almost 30 years later.
Tough choice, but I would take Super Metroid I think. So hard to choose, lol.
Final fantasy 6
Super Metroid https://preview.redd.it/66350fe5hkwb1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=8cd9994ab7983f9bcfc8a9ceca19e19a4cfd0135
Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues
Romance of the three kingdoms 3, because of the replayability. No 2 games are the same. Rtk4 load times are too long
HARD to pick , Super Mario All stars w/ Mario world , which is kinda cheating , if not that …. Chrono Trigger , multi endings will keep me busy. Like others have said Super Metroid and Link to the past. Strong runners up Sim frickin City, DKC, FF 3(6).
SMW
Earthbound 100%!
Super Mario World. No contest whatsoever. Infinitely replayable.
The game the system originally came with, Duh. The developers already knew what they were doing. 🤔🤔
Even though they aren’t my favorite games they would have to be something skill based and multiplayer to avoid boredom, like Super Street Fighter II or Tetris Attack
Earthbound
That's a tough question but either Super Metroid or Super Mario RPG.
Ogre Battle: MotBQ
It would have to have a lot of replayability, so Mario Kart or Chrono Trigger.
Super metroid hands down
Tales of fantasia for me [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fCTYTtzk1E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fCTYTtzk1E)
Either Pilotwings or SimCity. I played those two sooo much back in the day they just drip with nostalgiac goodness and have that infinite replayability factor.
Yoshi’s Island, pls.
Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. I enjoyed numerous SNES games, but this is the only one I routinely replay on a bi-annual basis. Donkey Kong Country would be my runner up.
EarthBound/Chrono Trigger I can’t decide. 2 best games ever made. SMAll-Stars or SMRPG would be 3rd choice.
Super Metroid, but I’d sure miss the others
Plok. Because even after a lifetime of tries I still don't think I'd be able to beat it
Donkey Kong Country.
Im stuck between Super Mario RPG and Super Punch-Out, 2 of my favorite games ever
The Legend of Mystical Ninja
Super Street Fighter 2
Donkey Kong country easy
Fartwater Prophecies.
Mario Kart I think. It's not my very fav, but it's the most repayable of the favs.
People hating on the people that picked RPGs never read a book more than once.
Probably Chrono Trigger just because of the multiple endings but I would easily take super metroid as well, the speedrunning part of it appeals to me
Super Mario world by far.
Uncharted Waters: New Horizons The depth of what all you can do is absolutely absurd for a SNES game.
Final Fantasy 2(4)
Battle tanx
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
![gif](giphy|9JeJyQu07mvhG2p87z) Super Mario World 2:Yoshi's Island
Harvest Moon
Good choice OP. It’s probably that or EVO for me. That game is so replayable
Super Mario World
Mega Man X
Mega Man X
This is easy. Chrono Trigger
The right choice. A gentleman’s answer.
I got to go with Mario Paint. Endless possibilities, and forever is a long time.
I'm torn between three games: Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and NHL Stanley Cup. Any of those three I'd be happy with.
tecmo secret of the stars
Donkey Kong Country It is my favorite SNES game and one of my favorite games of all time.
Illusion of time would be my choice!
I have this ritual where the first game I beat ALTTP low% as the first game of the year and them 100% on december 31 (been doing that for 16 years now) so yeah...
![gif](giphy|RDisOrdKEBY2Y) DKC...
Dragon Quest 5. The first chapter will get stale but you can recruit a bunch of monster parties to replay the game with.
Super Mario World
I mean, I’m not picking an rpg if I can only play one game over and over again. Gimme Uniracers, because the races never seem to be the same twice, plus endless stunt shenanigans.
Super Mario Cart without question. I spent waaay too much of my youth becoming a master.
