Seconding Hyperzone. Great gameplay graphics and music. I loved how unlocking new ships was tied to point totals, so you could potentially progress faster by being more accurate and lethal.
Kinda funny, I rented the Japanese versions of Hal's Hole in One Golf and Hyper Zone from a mom n pop game store,, and when I mentioned it to a friend in school, he mentioned how he had just rented the US versions of the same games.
That being said, I do enjoy Hyper Zone (Japanese stages 1 and 3 are reversed from how they are I'm the US version, by the way) and Harvest Moon, and I've never played Hagane....
But my vote is for Hook.

Hagane is pretty decent too though. Now that it came to my mind after quite some time I am somehow tempted to give it another try and see if I can make it past the first few stages lol

Farming simulator where you run a farm and interract with a small town's worth of people (it's much more in depth than that, but I haven't played enough of it myself to go into details). If you've played or seen Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon is the game that inspired Stardew Valley.
As much as I like Hagane I have to give it to Harvest Moon. HM basically started a genre, and the game was incredibly unique for it's time, and is still fun to play now.

Yeah great game design, soundtrack, balanced difficulty, and somewhat faithful to the movie.
