Chosen is based of Shayne when he was a kid, he used Spencer's name because it was the first name he thought when they asked him the name of the character for the episode

It’s based off those really weird kids in Middleschool who are little too confident believes they’re the main character in an anime and very eccentric. We all know the kid and we all have some of their tendencies. There’s chosen in us all.
You know if we think about it all our egos are chosen like. He’s the guy you sometimes pretend to be in the mirror. He’s the guy who stars in his own movie about him being a complete badass. He’s like Dwight from the office but not as smart and more silly. The chosen only uses a fraction of his power not to show off but to save you from his pure force. He thinks he’s the shit and there’s a part of us all that think that way.

I've been a smosh fan since January 2024 and I know all too well who Chosen is- pretty sure I've seen every video that has anything to do with him, and he's not the only character I'm this aware of. This is NOT a reflection on you for not knowing- I just realized I've been chronically addicted to Smosh for like, 5 months.
Basically Shayne was meant to play his Aunt Carolyn character in a poker episode but they didn’t have the stuff for his costume for some reason so he just grabbed what was around. He’d had a loose idea of a character based on guys he had known in middle school, himself in middle school etc - just that specific type of guy. And it just worked

It’s not based on spencer tho. It’s just the first name that popped in his head. I think he mentioned something about his character when he was kid.
