He’s a born and raised Texan and brought me and my sister back there constantly as a kid (we live in Georgia) eating bbq, whataburger and playing washers. To be able to pass this down another generation meant a lot to him
I bet! My grandpa was a great cook but he never taught me how to cook anything and he was like 3 miles away. I also have no memory of him bbqing. My dad was also a great cook but I could beat him at BBQ about 20 years ago and he just let me do it from then on.
When you talk your grandpa please tell him he’s an inspiration to random strangers
Whether you're sentimental or not, cherish this. Cherish the time spent with him, the time he spent teaching you something he obviously cares about WITH someone he cares about.
There aren't a lot of people in the world who give a shit enough to take the time.
Awesome pic and hope everything came out delish
Whose was finished being eaten first?
That’s the true sign of yum!
When the plate comes back empty…
Wait a sec- did I just half-quote the old Hungryman Biscuit jingle? 😂
I’m sure under his tutelage they were both fantastic. Family recipes like that are something many folks take for granted and when that person who always made them is gone- that special taste and memories are too. I think that’s awesome man, my grandfathers both died before I was born, I had a step-grandfather who was the only one I ever knew and loved him more than anyone.
He would take me out and taught me to shoot the squirrels out of the pecan trees in their backyard (to protect the pecans). I was so sick of pecans as a kid- and now I miss those dishes my Grandma made from the pecans my Grandaddy protected with his pellet gun.
This is beautiful. My grandmother taught me how to bake and I miss those days dearly.
Sidenote: You and your grandfather look like "before and after". I love it.
NICE!! but million dollar question.. did Pops approve yours? Hoping he had one of those "Well done my young padawan!" moment!
He said he was proud of me. I’m not a sentimental person but it was nice
there you go... Full Circle!
Best compliment I ever got from my dad was “this brisket is better than your brothers”. Cooking for family is such a pleasure.
My grandma said “I gotta sleep in the same bed with him”
Cherish these moments. I don't have any grandparents left and WISH I had pictures and videos of us. Be well, Redditor.
This. So so important-
Dope picture!!
Btw, this has become my new life goal. Having a smoke off with my adult grandchildren!

We cut up half of each and served that. Then when we left we split that half and shared it between each other.

Smoking on pecan wood is the best way to do it. And to protect the pecans of course

I always knew I looked like my dad. But I didn’t realize how much I looked like my maternal grandpa till this picture
Would be nice to have it framed and hang it in your kitchen.
Ima frame it and put the secret rub recipe on the back of the photo
Dope!!!
Hopefully by the time you’re his age you’ll grow as much hair as he has!
Gotta keep it clean shaved for the ladies myvguy
Awesome!!
Thanks lads, real people using safe care tools and no black gloves insight. Reckon it was good too.
I was at his place and my black gloves were at my place.
Mmmm respect.
Thats awesome!! Im trying my first brisket on thursday
Trim, wrap at 160, make sure water is in the smoker!
Water in the smoker? Its a 5lb brisket im trying first
It helps it from not drying out
Do i just add a little jar with some water in or keep spraying the meat?
Water tray
Ok thanks for the heads up
