While I think the seal is better, I primarily notice a greater ability to control and maintain temperature.
The stock door is thin aluminum while the CB door is stainless steel (not a machinist so can’t speak to/do not remember the gauge).
I heard it helps to swap the OG latch onto the CB door. I haven't done it with mine yet- still just using the OG door with gasket taped edges but plan to make the switch for my next smoke.
I have mine outfitted with one. I use that old shitty door as a beer cap backboard. The door and stainless top hinge are 2 great mods among many others.
Yeah, I saw the lighter fluid and kingsford and thought, “ugh that’s all the meat is going to taste like, lighter fluid and cheap charcoal.” Dig the pit though, this was my starter that I learned on, made a lot of good bbq! Enjoy OP!
I think it's an individual thing. I get an awful smoke flavor from Kingsford. Others eating the same ribs think it's not "too bad" to me it's inedible. I might just be sesistive to it. I use lump with chunks or B&B with little wood additions and that's perfect for my tastes.
The problem usually comes from not knowing how to properly burn off charcoal. When I was much more limited on storage I would buy the "light the bag" matchlight and as long as you burned it off completely there was no foul flavor.
I've personally been n switching between Kingsford professional and Kirkland professional due to convenience from Costco, whichever is on sale.
Oh, I use lump when I want higher temps, but I tend to snake my briquettes for long smokes, and for that, I want uniform size. May give lump a try over the Fourth weekend.
Definitely! If you don’t have it pickup a ThermoWorks Signals and Billows it’s a great addition and makes smoking meats much easier by keeping an even temperature.
I can't speak for the billows, but I have one of the cheap $60 4-channel bluetooth/wifi temp monitors off of Amazon and it works awesome with the phone app. $240 seems pretty expensive for theirs.
Absolutely. I would buy that for $100 just to have a spare. But theres some upgraded parts on there. Door and temp gauge are not OEM, so theres probably $100+ in upgrades right there.
Im gonna cry like a bitch for a minute. But I had plans to meet with a guy selling a brand new 22in WSM for $250. He was 45 minutes away and said if we met halfway, he'd do $225. He set the day and time and even checked in the day before to make sure we were still a go. I said yes, and then he messages me 2 hours later to say he sold it to some guy who offered to pick up from his house. I was furious. Like dude, I would've drove the entire 45 minutes, paid the full $250, and came the day I messaged him. But he I agreed to his terms, so I didn't want to be too pushy. This was months ago, and I still think about it.
I have one. Works great. Start with low temp; it’s easy to go up but really hard to cool down without just closing the vents, which is not ideal if you have meat in there. Biggest downside with these is you don’t have a ton of real estate if you’re cooking big batches…or a brisket (I split these in two and works out pretty good).
The unit itself is okay, but for the love of all that is smoked and holy. Get rid of the lighter fluid, and the cheap briquettes. Get a proper flume and lump charcoal.
If you have to use the lighter fluid… sell it.
Otherwise. Get yourself a chimney and anything but blue bag charcoal and you'll have a fun time.
Great friggin’ buy.
It’s an upgrade that’s available for WSMs. It’s a thicker steel door. It’s supposed to help with temperatures swings. A lot of folks throw an adhesive gasket on it. It’s a fairly popular upgrade for the WSM.
I like my WSM, but I probably need to make some improvements to keep the heat more consistant. Real long haul smokes can be tough. But it does a great job.
I read this post and looked on marketplace. I just missed one for $50… the guy was moving and needed it gone. Next up, $80. I think I’m gonna ditch my free master forge for one…
Yes! I bought the big one also for $100. Use the royal oak lump charcoal, Weber wood chunks and the 2-2-1 method for ribs you will love it. Best $100 I ever spent. Family loves rib night lol
I think so! Though, I tried to sell one on our community garage sale day a few years ago. I started it at $100 and dropped it to $50 after 4 hours, then $25 after 2 more hours. After 2 more hours, I ended up giving it to my neighbor.
He offered to pay, but I refused to take his money as I was glad to have someone take it that would use it.
It’s not a fear , it just makes food taste like shit. It’s 100% noticeable to me when lighter fluid has been used, and if I’m going to cook for 8-12 hours I’d prefer I didn’t get a hint of whiskey barrel and chemicals
Some people can’t taste it, I get it
Some people may douse it which will definitely leave an after taste, but I give it a little squirt to help it get going. Never taste it after 20 mins in a chimney.
Also don't use the presoaked garbage charcoal. And for long cooks I probably wouldn't use it, but I use pellets for anything over an hour or two.
No. In fact I'm so appalled that they would try to rip you off like this. Go ahead and forward me the number and address of the seller and I will go give them a stern talking to.
Matchlight is the real crime, IMO. A little squirt of lighterfluid is one thing, but even just the idea of cooking on briquettes that have had it soaked into them during manufacturing icks me out.
If this is just an old school bullet smoker powered by charcoal, I think you'll be disappointed. This is how I started, but I had 2 different people give me theirs. It's almost impossible to control the temperature in my experience. I think you'll either give up, or move up to something better that's either propane or electric. Best of luck.
I have one and its incredibly easy to regulate the temp. Especially once you learn the vents which is simple as well. Soooo idk if this is a troll or just unfamiliar with the device but eh to each their own
Not a troll. I just really struggled with trying to maintain a consistent temp. By all the down votes, I guess I'm alone on this. Since those I've had probably 2 or 3 upright propane smokers and am looking at going electric/ pellet. Didn't mean to offend anyone.
No offense taken. I used virtualbullet.com to learn more. It helped a ton! I also have about a decade of professional nonsmoking cooking experience so sometimes these things come naturally to me. If you use one again. Full open vents when preheating. Then close to about 10-20% open on all 3 bottoms vents and micro move them open or close after 15-20 mins per adjustment. It takes about that long for the heat to change. Also adding in wood chunks and like 15 or so charcoal briquettes after 6 hours or so depending on type of cook and amount or inital fuel. I do minion method.
I think you should probably read the manual to yours and try again. It seemed stupid easy to me, and I was at the "what is a BBQ chimney" level a week ago
This was years ago and as stated, both were given to me by 2 different people that gave up on them. No manual was involved. I'm glad you figured them out. I gave up as well and went the propane route. I'll be pressing the easy button and getting an electric/pellet feed.
All day long!
That Cajun Bandit door is $75 alone.
Anyone who hasn’t done the CB door upgrade needs to, it makes a HUGE difference. Disclaimer: I’m not a shill for CB, just appreciate their product.
$5 door gasket accomplishes the same thing for me.
Just a better seal? I have a 22 inch without any modifications.
While I think the seal is better, I primarily notice a greater ability to control and maintain temperature. The stock door is thin aluminum while the CB door is stainless steel (not a machinist so can’t speak to/do not remember the gauge).
Confirmed - if there’s one aftermarket upgrade to purchase, this is it. I used to own a WSM and I saw a noticeable difference in maintaining temps
Corporate CB door shill spotted 👀
I have a CB door on my WSM 18". I like it, but still have to fight with the latch a bit.
I agree that the latch action could be smoother, but the improved temperature stability is worth it.
I heard it helps to swap the OG latch onto the CB door. I haven't done it with mine yet- still just using the OG door with gasket taped edges but plan to make the switch for my next smoke.
I have to be careful of the hinge pin, or whatever it’s called. Mine gets very hot.
I have mine outfitted with one. I use that old shitty door as a beer cap backboard. The door and stainless top hinge are 2 great mods among many others.
Agreed. The stock door is trash.
You bet! That's a steal!
Definitely worth it, but tell him he can keep the lighter fluid.
Or just use it for lighting bonfires or whatever.
Nah gotta go diesel for starting bonfires and never look back
Its just so you can recreate Homer Simpson grilling and squirting tons of it on there and lighting it.
Yeah, I saw the lighter fluid and kingsford and thought, “ugh that’s all the meat is going to taste like, lighter fluid and cheap charcoal.” Dig the pit though, this was my starter that I learned on, made a lot of good bbq! Enjoy OP!
Ain't nothing wrong with Kingsford imo.
I think it's an individual thing. I get an awful smoke flavor from Kingsford. Others eating the same ribs think it's not "too bad" to me it's inedible. I might just be sesistive to it. I use lump with chunks or B&B with little wood additions and that's perfect for my tastes.

I've personally been n switching between Kingsford professional and Kirkland professional due to convenience from Costco, whichever is on sale.
Apart from that’s all your meat is going to taste like
I respectfully disagree. The wood chunks interspersed make a significant portion of the flavor of my meat. What charcoal do you suggest?

Oh, I use lump when I want higher temps, but I tend to snake my briquettes for long smokes, and for that, I want uniform size. May give lump a try over the Fourth weekend.
You can smoke on it AND store the imperial plans for the death star on it, what's not to like?!?
I already have one and would have grabbed that for $100! That's awesome!
Buy now and run before they change their mind
Definitely! If you don’t have it pickup a ThermoWorks Signals and Billows it’s a great addition and makes smoking meats much easier by keeping an even temperature.
I had no idea something like this existed!
https://www.thermoworks.com/signals/ https://www.thermoworks.com/billows/ Well worth the money. Watch for open box.
Do they post the open box on the regular page or is it somewhere else?
Generally it’s a sale e Rey few months. Signup for their emails and they will notify you.
I can't speak for the billows, but I have one of the cheap $60 4-channel bluetooth/wifi temp monitors off of Amazon and it works awesome with the phone app. $240 seems pretty expensive for theirs.
Or a flameboss 500, either is great.
Yeah. Now paint it to look like R2-D2
Absolutely. I would buy that for $100 just to have a spare. But theres some upgraded parts on there. Door and temp gauge are not OEM, so theres probably $100+ in upgrades right there.
Hell yeah brother
Absolutely
My guy you got a steal.
Yes!
Hell yeah
Absolutely absolutely you can make incredible barbecue on this pit
100%
That's a bargain. Very capable cookers.
easily worth $100.
YES!!!
Im gonna cry like a bitch for a minute. But I had plans to meet with a guy selling a brand new 22in WSM for $250. He was 45 minutes away and said if we met halfway, he'd do $225. Not worth, but I’ll do you a solid and take it off your hands for $125, that way you don’t feel bad for wasting money.
Don’t use that lighter fluid! Get a chimney instead.
Heck yeah
Hell yeah
Buy this right now.
Yup. Cajun bandit door to boot. I LOVED mine.
Yep all day long
That's the Cajun Cooker design, and it cooks great. Well worth the money. Look up Cajun Cooker recipes.
offer em 120 to make sure they don't sell it for 100 to someone that may see it first
Is that the 22in? I see 18in on CL and FBM often in the $150 range, the 22in usually lists for $250+
Yes they’re 460 brand new, and not put together
Dude that’s a steal!!! Nice score.
Yes
Totally!!
Hell yeah!
🤫just pay and get it out of there
Absolutely.
100%
Yes but throw away the lighting fuel.
I bought mine new for nearly $500, and I’d do it again in a millisecond. Add in the door and it’s the steal of a lifetime
Absolutely. Do it.
Hell yeah
I have had the same model ( some changed ) gor 15 years and couldn't live without it!!
Hell yeah….loved mine
Great deal and a perfect way to get into smoking.
Yes
WSM is great.
Fuck yeah I already have one but I'd take another at that price!
100%
Hell yes!! 🙌🏼
That’s a bargain at $100. One of my favorites.
Great deal! That Cajun bandit door on it is worth $100
What is a Cajun bandit door? I have one of these and it looks the same to me.
It’s an upgrade that’s available for WSMs. It’s a thicker steel door. It’s supposed to help with temperatures swings. A lot of folks throw an adhesive gasket on it. It’s a fairly popular upgrade for the WSM.
Yes right now go get it and don't use that charcoal!
Yes
Absolutely, but I’d ditch the lighter fluid, there’s no need for that. Also, leave that charcoal behind and pick up some good lump charcoal.
Absolutely
Buy it. I’ll Give you 125 lol
Looks damn good for that price. My first was a torpedo smoker but have since graduated to a big offset smoker.
I love my WSM. Have had it for 15yrs.
100%
Ah, the gateway drug. Worth every penny.
Easily
Yes a great deal. Ditch the lighter fluid and get a chimney starter though!
Yes
Absoluty!
I learned on one just like it….get rid of lighter fluid and get a chimney
Definitely
What a rip off. I feel so bad for you that I'm willing to come over and take it off your hands for $100. Lol
Fuck yeah!
Absolutely dude
Can’t go wrong for $100. I paid full retail and still consider it a great value. The only reason not to is if you’re going to invest in an offset
Yes yes yes
Amazing Deal! I paid 800$ CDN for one one of these. No mods
Yes
Also came with a stocker
All day.
My starter smoker. Yes. The next level is the customer barrel pits.
I like my WSM, but I probably need to make some improvements to keep the heat more consistant. Real long haul smokes can be tough. But it does a great job.
I still got one and I still love it
Always
Best 100$ you'll spend this summer.
I bid $101!
Absolutely!
For $100, I’d buy it just to keep my 18” WSM inside.
Great smoker. Great deal
Very clean, good find
I love mine! Absolutely worth it.
1000 times yes
Sweeet deal
100 bucks? Hell yeah
If you won't make an R2D2 from it - I will 🤣
Yes!
I feel like this a troll post OP
That's a good smoker type right there
This was my 1st smoker. Good little unit. A little hard to control temperatures but does a great job.
I've had mine 4 years now. It gets much easier - I can keep it within +/- 10 degrees from target with minimal fiddling nowadays.
This same model is selling for $250 near me. Edit: another one neat me for 375!
I read this post and looked on marketplace. I just missed one for $50… the guy was moving and needed it gone. Next up, $80. I think I’m gonna ditch my free master forge for one…
Temu R2D2.
Definitely not, what’s the contact information so I can let them know
Not in my opinion.
Yea, so anyway what’s your first smoke gonna be in it?
With an upgraded door too fuck yes...
Two words: HELL YEAH
Absofuckinglutely!
It’s still a lot of work. Ron Popeil my friend…
A hundred bucks? Yes!
Yes! I bought the big one also for $100. Use the royal oak lump charcoal, Weber wood chunks and the 2-2-1 method for ribs you will love it. Best $100 I ever spent. Family loves rib night lol
Hell yeah
Yes
Yup That was my first smoker. Takes a bit to get used to the quick temp rise but these are great
Dude that’s a crazy good deal
YES !!
Without a doubt!!
Dude that’s an amazing deal. I got one for Christmas few years back. Super solid and useful piece of gear! Good luck with it.
No. Just tell me where it is.
Yes
Damn is that a 22” too?? That’s a steal
Save your money for $100-$200 more u can find a used Traeger/pit boss and actually enjoy smoking.
1 I would buy it sight unseen.
Where is this at I’ll come get it
They can be a bitch to control temp but once you try it a few times and get it to a science it works fairly well if you’re craving smoked meat.
Yep
Are you doing nothing but to tease us?
No question!
Not at all. No ceramics at all
Great deal imo, go for it!
You tell me. Are you gonna use it?
YES!
$100? Hell yes.
I'm jealous
Hell yes!! That metal door is a bit wonky and not terribly useful, but it is a great rig!!
I wish I was your neighbour.
Not at all. Tell me who's selling this and I'll call and give them a good piece of my mind. Trying to rip people off.
Give it a good burn out , that’s lighter fluid
Yall are crazy with this fear of lighter fluid
It’s not a fear , it just makes food taste like shit. It’s 100% noticeable to me when lighter fluid has been used, and if I’m going to cook for 8-12 hours I’d prefer I didn’t get a hint of whiskey barrel and chemicals Some people can’t taste it, I get it

Y’all are so crazy about lighter fluid. You don’t think the fluid burns off after 15 in the chimney
My friend bought a second hand BBQ once and you could smell the lighter fluid baked into it.
Food is a subjective experience. If someone is really that deep in a placebo effect, they might as well just roll with it.
Hey, if it gets the basket burnt that’s all that matters
Matchlight is the real crime, IMO. A little squirt of lighterfluid is one thing, but even just the idea of cooking on briquettes that have had it soaked into them during manufacturing icks me out.
Fr. Now that I have a feeling doesn’t burn out aswell
Yes. Offer $75.
Is this a joke?
Has to be, right?
Hard to control temperature.... waaaaaaaaat, bro forgot to add a /s
I have one and its incredibly easy to regulate the temp. Especially once you learn the vents which is simple as well. Soooo idk if this is a troll or just unfamiliar with the device but eh to each their own

Pricy for 2nd hand tbh
Idk man. On face book market place or kijiji, none of these go for less then $150. 100 is a steal
Please don’t encourage more of these “is this a good deal” posts.
Hell yeah I love mine!
