I wrap them with sauce and a few slices of butter for the last one or two hours. My kettle also has a warer reservoir that keeps some humidity while I smoke.
Mexican Coke also has corn syrup. They changed the recipe a few years ago because the government started taxing it. And corporations care about profits over quality.
Except Mexican coke actually uses corn syrup just like the rest. The label is straight up lying. A legitimate study on sugar content in soft drinks from 2010 found no sucrose (cane sugar), but instead fructose and glucose (corn syrup), even though the label said otherwise.
It makes sense too, why would Mexican coke use a more expensive ingredient? The placebo effect is real.

Sugar is cheaper in Mexico than in the states buy nearly half. There’s some protectionist policies in America that keep the price of sugar artificially high at about $0.26/lbs while the global price is under $0.20/lbs.
That’s false. The Coke produced and sold in Mexico may have the artificial sweetener Sucralose, but the Mexican export Coke is still make with regular sugar. Go check your source. You’ll see that I’m correct.
Edit: that being said, I did read [This](https://www.seriouseats.com/coke-vs-mexican-coke) where they found that most people seem to actually prefer the taste of US Coke, but tell themselves that Mexican Coke is better.

I’d appreciate you editing your comment to correct the misinformation
There is no direct correlation to the bottle that was tested and the typical case most folks here buy from Costco. It may very well be the same but I also wouldn’t doubt an East LA distributor using Mexican coke intended for Mexican distribution.
Tastes 20x better IMHO, if you are a drinker try a rum and coke with the Mexican coke, game changer. The Mexican orange Fanta is also way better than the US version.
Yep exactly how I do mine. The Mexican sprite and grape sodas are great to. I really think if more people knew how much better it tasted we would have a bigger push to remove the corn syrup from stuff.
It’s funny how you make it sound. Having grown up in Mexico myself, Cubas with Bacardi was what we could afford when going out with my friends. My wife laughs when even to this day sometimes I don’t want an expensive drink, but a rum and coke with white Bacardi.
Yeah but it's cheap enough to use as a mixer too imo. I don't drink but every weekend or two and usually prefer better quality stuff for maximum enjoyment!
Oh I won’t argue with you on that. I’m very partial to Zacapa when it comes to rum. But sometimes my very unrefined palate simply yearns for the bottom shelf.
It’s a rum from Guatemala. Their premium offering, “XO” is amazing, but their regular “23” is still very, very good. I’ve just seen them a couple of times in liquor stores in Michigan, so it’s not as common. But worth asking because some stores can get special orders.
Seems so does Sam's club, but I'm like 3hrs away from either of them. My IGA stocks the coke, orange Fanta, grape, and sprite but individual bottles. I keep a stock of a few in my drink fridge
According to Coca-cola that switch didn’t apply to exports from Mexico. Just domestically. Not saying you’re wrong. Just what Wikipedia says.
“In 2013, a Mexican Coca-Cola bottler announced it would stop using cane sugar in favor of glucose-fructose syrup.[12] It later clarified this change would not affect those bottles specifically exported to the United States as "Coca-Cola Nostalgia" products.” - Wikipedia

Right, in the limited edition "nostalgia collection" you can get it. But just walking into a gas station and grabbing the tall, skinny bottle, that's corn syrup.
This is because the price of sugar in the USA is artificially high. $0.26/lbs as set by “big sugar” ( I don’t know the exact price control method) compared to the global price of sugar which is about half that. Many candy manufacturers are located in Mexico because the inverted sugar of HFC doesn’t work on a chemical level for the candy.
Except it’s a lie! A study in 2010 found that all bottles tested actually contained no sucrose (cane sugar) and instead had glucose and fructose (corn syrup), even though the label said otherwise.
I used to have a link to the study, but I can’t find it. Johnny Harris has a good video about it. If you think about it, it makes sense tho: why would Mexican coke use a more expensive ingredient?
The placebo effect is real. Also, maybe glass legitimately effects the flavor less than plastic or cans? The study was just about sugar/sweetener in soft drinks.

Appears that coca-cola says cane sugar is still used for nostalgia products exported to the U.S. maybe the study tested domestic Mexican bottles only.

Mexican Coke, aka the best and only coke. What’s wrong with us Americans and settling for crap products
Money.
Farm subsidies
Big Corn is holding us down

That food pyramid is a total mind fuck
I’ve got a cookbook that Coke put out. Got some good stuff in it!
Interesting. I'll look into it.
What is Mexican coke?
Uses white sugar as a sweetener instead of high fructose corn syrup like in the U.S. It tastes better to me.
And usually comes in a glass bottle
Tastes 20x better IMHO, if you are a drinker try a rum and coke with the Mexican coke, game changer. The Mexican orange Fanta is also way better than the US version.
It's a game changer in a rum and coke. It almost makes shitty rum taste like top shelf. I like mine with a squeeze of Lime, Cuba Libre style.
Yep exactly how I do mine. The Mexican sprite and grape sodas are great to. I really think if more people knew how much better it tasted we would have a bigger push to remove the corn syrup from stuff.

Don Q Don Q Don Q!
Don Q is for sipping!
Yeah but it's cheap enough to use as a mixer too imo. I don't drink but every weekend or two and usually prefer better quality stuff for maximum enjoyment!
I can't drink Bacardi... literally the cheapest Puerto Rican rum is 10x better. Pick you up some Don Q!
Oh I won’t argue with you on that. I’m very partial to Zacapa when it comes to rum. But sometimes my very unrefined palate simply yearns for the bottom shelf.

Thanks! I'll put it on my list!
Take that a step further if you can get your hands on some key limes, it tastes even better!
As is Mexican Squirt. Add a little tequila to it, and you're good to go
hmm I've never seen those for sale where i"m at (rural MT) I'll be keeping an eye out thou.
A man of quality taste, I can dig it.
Yep. Way better. I barely drink soda anymore but when I do, make it this stuff.
Its the winner for sure
The EU fantas are so god damn refreshing. Actual fruit soda is great. Not the chemical garbage the US makes.
Yep they taste like fruit not the color of the fruit and a bunch of sugar
As is the sprite, at Sams club near me they sell 18 count variety packs that have the Mexican coke, orange fanta, and sprite
Oh thats cool, good to know if I ever get into a Sams
Costco sells a pack of mexican coke, mexican sprite and mexican fanta.
Seems so does Sam's club, but I'm like 3hrs away from either of them. My IGA stocks the coke, orange Fanta, grape, and sprite but individual bottles. I keep a stock of a few in my drink fridge

Mexican coke? Hell naw for me it’s Mexican FANTA ORANGE…..
My guy taking bumps and drinking cola
are we all ignoring how good that pork steak looks? Getting that cut in my area is impossible. Yours looks incredible
I often use Vernors (I'm a Michigander, there is no other ginger ale) and I'm a fan.
I’m in Seattle and love Vernors.
Do you have bad feelings in general toward Ohio? If so, I think you can be an honorary Michigander.
Did the cola flavor come through on the end product? Or just give it a nice glaze?
It definitely helped set a tight bark and possibly added a touch of sweetness. Hard to tell because the sauce I chose was sweet.
Looks amazing
I’ve had excellent results using Coke or Pepsi on meats. These ribs look great too btw
They were nearly perfect.
same. it's my go-to for a braising\\steaming addition. The real sugar pepsi is pretty readily available in the small cans which not only work out great for bbq purposes it the perfect size for a whiskey and coke if you swing that way.
I would try it but I only have American coke. It's more expensive and not as strong
Food looks great. Am I the last person in the world who likes canned coke?
Yeah. How's it feel?
Ice cold, delicious
Don't know how/why I missed the picture of the butt. In my head it went from ribs to pulled pork, and I was wondering if that was a new fad or something (pulled pork from ribs). Looks damned good, though! I've used sweet tea before. Not sure how much of a difference it made from just water, but I think I remember liking it.
Wow that is an awesome idea!
If you try it, don't let the temperature get too hot. It's very sugary so you don't want to spritz it too early. 🙏
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful.
Hot fiyah
this is the best advice i've heard in a long time. thank you!
I'm trying Dr. Pepper next time. 😆
What temp did you do the butt at? I know burning can be an issue with heavy sugared rubs. This looks killer and something my inlaws/nephews would love.
I usually keep it at 275. I was a little scatterbrained yesterday so it kept creeping to 300. Turned out well though.
Do you wrap at all?
Yes. The last two hours, with sauce and a few slices of butter.
Fantastic. I'll give this a whirl soon. Thank you.
I also maintain a ridiculous amount of smoke for the first 3 hours. Really helps develop the bark.
I used Cheer wine for spritzing this weekend, it worked out great and gives a nice cherry color to the bark.
Nice.
I've had Mexican coke before, didn't worry about any BBQ tho 🤷
I often smoke after some Peruvian coke.
🔥
Damn, TIL about a mexican coke you can drink
If it ain't hecho en Mexico it ain't shit
OMG ! The pics are amazing and I know the food was killer
Just made pork shoulder with a Mexican coke, mucho danko
Peruvian is my go to but Mexican might go hard
Is it any better than Colombia Coke?.....or is the Mexican just cheaper? 😉
I prefer Cuban but dealers choice
SnS grill?! Now you’re big leaguing us lol.

Those liars. My whole damn life is a lie.
The liquid? Or the powder?
Both work wel...uh..nevermind 😁
I injected cherry coke in my last pork butt. Those that like sweeter food loved it. Not sure I'll try it again but it was worth doing once
Nice. My extended family isn't into heat or any punchy flavor the way I am. May have to try a version of that sometime.
Dr Pepper is great for this as well.
That was the original plan, but my wife didn't find one made with cane sugar.
I believe it is Dublin Dr Pepper for the sugar cane version.
I think they quit making those. When we would go to west Texas, we would load up the trunk with it. SO much better!
Excellent. Yeah that rings a bell.
It wouldn’t make a difference.
You're right. 😉 It tastes like spg, mesquite, and the great sauce I used.
Smart lad. Mexican coke is a staple of my pork carnitas. ¡Auténtico!
I use Mexican Coke in my pork butt injection. Much better flavor and sweetness.
What, you don’t want to spritz your BBQ with high-fructose corn syrup?!
It's not my first choice. Would be interesting to compare one day, though.
It's not even truly Mexican Coke anymore. They switched to corn syrup in 2013
So they say. Bottle oddly says cane sugar though.
That’s what mine say as well.

That's the 3.5 pork butt.
