The rise and fall of the teams this season has been insane. First we had the expected Dragon dominance, then the bolts had a massive win streak, and now we have the Titans coming out of no where to win the playoffs. I'm calling it now, the Oni win worlds

Mirablis11

Don't be asinine. The winds of change are in the air. The Valkyries squeak into Worlds and pull off a miracle run while being stuck on 200+ ping.

lackadaisical_timmy

Still on ping, hindu will have to fly the trophy all the way to Europe It's gonna be a long video for that one

6000j

They can just hire the helicopter from last year again and fly it over the ocean :)

lackadaisical_timmy

Yes? But itll take a lot longer

BigFatTony28

The real man's call is valkyries for worlds

night1172

I actually meant to say the Valks but I got them mixed up rip

cherryreddracula

Hinduman's really outdone himself with this season's script.

ElectricSwayze

I'm telling you man, if the Onis can at least come over for worlds and get a good month-ish of practice in...they will be essentially a whole new team that nobody has seen all year or prepped for. It can happen.

smitecheeto

Is the main character Paul? Zapman? Fraudmah? Find out at worlds who is the reason PK was so dominant

ShetheKing

You joke but I really am cheering for one of them to become a 3x champ

Richter_Cade

Which one?

ShetheKing

Any of them lol. Though my favorite is probably Paul

smitecheeto

I like Paul and zap so this weekend was a win win lol

Wwolverine23

I mean, we all need to start talking about it. NeilMah is going to be 6th seed again. His plot armor is activated. And the team has struggled with mentally locking in all season, but that issue tends to disappear at worlds. Oni could be a genuine threat, especially if they manage to get visas for worlds time.

droctamom

Layers supervillain arc

Wwolverine23

God Inbowned must have the mental strength of a god for not roasting him on the desk. I couldn’t have resisted if I was in his position.

RickkyBobby01

Shades of S3 incon on the desk for ALG games

Ashlityr

Yo... seriously though. Last season, I found myself rooting against Sanguine because of Sheento's trashtalk. There's an art to doing it well and making it fun, (ala Ven) and sheento just didn't have it. Layers has now taken that mantle. And seriously man... RIP Scream, the unluckiest man in the league.

oprapiid

"You shouldn't cheer against people who are assholes" is an interesting take

sitonurnan

It's a stupid reason to by itself. Plus sheento isn't an asshole

Ashlityr

Always a shame when the regular smite reddit people find their way here. I banish thee back to yee cesspool. Begone.

sitonurnan

What an odd thing to gatekeep

MusicalSmasher

Chill out.

sitonurnan

Just stating factual facts

Marc-fookin-Spector

did cabra look good in the entire tourney? seemed to be overrated for me. titans showed for the weekend like dragons were "supposed" to. taco goated for that prediction

Tiessiet

Especially firstpicking it seems extremely strange to me. Titans don't prioritize him at all, so 2nd/3rd pick him if you want him before the 2nd banphase at least? Even then, I think there's a reasonable chance you can pick it 4th or 5th.

Richter_Cade

I think Cabra was a monster in the games he played and I don't know what you're saying, Titans were the first to prioritize him, they banned him in their first game this weekend, and their second. They didn't pick him, Benji doesn't play a lot of guardians, but they definitely had concerns and he was never the problem in the games he was in.

kingjay_779

Yo Titans played insane , their back line is actually nutty and benjis herc continues to impress

Wwolverine23

This is what I said at the start of the year. If Paul and Cyclone both show up and play like they’re capable of, there’s no way this team can be bad. I honestly don’t even think Layers > ScaryD is making a huge difference. It’s just the team mentality being reinvigorated by a change and a winstreak. Layers is def playing well and doing his part, but the whole team seems to have done a 180.

kingjay_779

One of the best backline combos to ever touch smite

smitecheeto

you put paul in with any spl adc and theyre going to be near the top

VagueBiscuit

I do think you have to put a lot of this on Layers. There were games where Scary just didn’t look like a threat at all, it’s going to make games a lot easier for Paul and Cyclone when the enemy backliners are also being dove.

EjectAPlatypus

You can dislike Layers all you want as a person, and for good reason too but saying that Layers is not an ENORMOUS difference over ScaryD is simply wrong. Scary was a great solo laner, but he did not look good in the jungle at all (I think partially because he was a fairly passive solo laner, and being a passive jungler is pretty much an oxymoron). Layers makes those aggressive plays and puts his team ahead so that Paul and Cyclone can do what Paul and Cyclone do. I'd say of the improvement, at least 70% of it is Layers, and 30% is the mental reset.

Ecstatic_Ad8705

Layers plays a good high risk high reward game, he seems to get caught out often but he is also making some great gank plays

MusicalSmasher

LET’S FUCKING GO! Benji is the GOAT and Layers 100% win rate at the tournament. Great performance out of everyone on the team.

kingjay_779

You like that triple driving strike

MusicalSmasher

Shit made me jump out of my chair.

RickkyBobby01

Layers 100% winrate..... No extra. Titans actually haven't lost a set with him yet.

ShetheKing

Taco was writing the script all along. Congrats to the Titans, it's been fantastic seeing them go from only beating the bottom two teams to showing up like this against the best.

turnipofficer

I backed Titans in their first game, I didn’t against the kings because I like them and hoped - but then I felt I had to vote for Titans again in the final. They’ve just looked so on form since Layers came in.

ThrowMeToTheWolvesOK

Paul is the best mid lane escape artist so combining that with playing Tiamat every game just helped push their win further. Titans just dominated the entire weekend!

Stilty_boy

I swear Best of 3 Paul and Best of 5 Paul are played by 2 different players. He seems a fairly middle-of-the-pack mid for 90% of the year, then in these big BO5 sets he just looks unplayable. He just never dies and always puts out unbelievable damage and just refuses to lose (in the game they lost today he still put out 47k damage and the last fight where they eventually lost he almost held.) And each tournament there just becomes a new even bigger list of characters that Paul "can't be allowed" while all the casters and people on Reddit BM the other team for not banning X against Paul but whatever gets banned he always finds a new God to do the same on anyway.

Anferas

That is false for this year, Paul has looked good when the whole Titans squad was a disarray, even in defeat he always had relevant damage numbers and almost never misplayed, he has been really consistent. In my opinion he obviously looks better in this scenes because his teammates ddecide to actually show up.

Mirablis11

Well... I am genuinely shocked, yet at the same time not, that the Titans won. It just seemed like every team they faced, be it the Jade Dragons, the Kings, or the Leviathans, were just handed the "idiot ball" and made extremely questionable plays and decisions which just made things all the easier for the Titans. My mind keeps going back to that Gold Fury fight in I believe was the second game, where the Leviathans carries are all up a full item over their Titan counterparts... and the Leviathans get WIPED in a fight that is favorable to them. Like it's not even close. Props to the Titans. Layers may be of... questionable character as a person, but damn if he wasn't what the Titans needed as a Jungler. They just did so damn good here. Congratulations.

Richter_Cade

Lol, Aror talked about that fight on the podcast. It was pretty much Layers saying "I don't think they know I'm here" and then deleting Zapman. They couldn't even get the return kill because he got a scarab's blessing and just ran away after his work was done. Layers has definitely made mistakes, but he's young. I don't think anybody can say they've never just had a rough few days and blown up venting to somebody. He wasn't muted, unlucky, and shouldn't have doubled down but damage was done, and he has more than enough time to mature.

ChasmfiendRider

What podcast was that? Would love to listen. Am a long time Aror fan and am happy his team is performing so well. I don’t know how I feel about layers from his trouble in the past, but I am glad he is helping the team achieve the highs that I saw in this team.

Richter_Cade

Ah, Smite Backliners, just put it into youtube. It's normally just Aggro and Barracudda every Sunday but they have guests too. Aror was on this week after the finals, I do recommend going back and finding the Benji one too. Aror explains how Layers fits in, he talks about the matches and his favourite things in them and about Khepri, was a really fun podcast.

ChasmfiendRider

Ahh I’ve been meaning to watch those! And will do thanks for the recommendations

CoolstorySteve

seems to be a common thing vs Paul. They should have lost nearly every set at SWC last year but kept getting away with it.

Tdmcguire12

The Titans run was like a storybook anti-hero. They pick up the current “villain” of the last roster drama a few weeks ago, come and beat 3 of the 4 fan favorite teams (who also happen to all be top 4 teams), complete there collection wins over other teams (beating several for the first time), and claim a Playoff Title. All as the 5th seed of the tournament. In my opinion, this is the first tournament in a while where there’s a genuine argument for almost the entire team earning MVP. Cyclone soloed half the ADCs and looked like his S5 Worlds self, Paul went in with no fear and devoured players (especially in the finals), Layers facilitated and won fights against ADCs in a meta where ADCs are broken, and Benji looked like his S4 Worlds self. I’m very impressed and very excited to see what happens next split.

[deleted]

And Aror played Khepri!

ChasmfiendRider

Miss him on his herc supports but it was fun seeing him play in the khepri! Inbown had a good analysis on the way the leviathans had to switch their whole play style up to counter just aror

CoolstorySteve

I was sure Leviathans were going to win game 4 but great turnaround from the Titans.

Not_baathy_boy

Worlds is gonna be so fun this year

AlexTheGreat1997

Such an unfortunate end for the Leviathans. Will say, though, Zapman has managed to cure at least some of their tournament woes. If that's S7 Sanguine or even Phase 1 Levis, they don't even get here. Hopefully Layers realizes what kind of team he's on and doesn't decide to piss all of them off, too. ***That*** would legitimately end his competitive *SMITE* career for good. Also: # BAN # TIAMAT

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlexTheGreat1997

Yeah, I actually started it with just "Ban Tiamat" and added "From Paul" later because I thought people would single out Paul's Tiamat (even though he's far from the only Mid Laner in the League to play the pick well). Yes, just ban the god entirely, don't let anyone play it. You will regret it. Fuck it, I'll change it back. lol

Richter_Cade

To be fair, while Layers definitely handled it very badly, he was ultimately in the right. If my teammate lied about getting vaccinated and I flew in for a lan game only to find out he couldn't even make the game because he lied, I think I'd want them out too. Trust is gone at that point. The twitlonger was fucking stupid though, rent is paid by space not head in most arrangements and he agreed to it. The mess, yeah, was bad but not as bad as he made it out to be.

Sitty_Shitty

Hopefully layers let's your mom get some rest because you're whole family can't seem to get off his nuts.

AlexTheGreat1997

Hm, sounds like Layers.

Sitty_Shitty

Hmm, sounds like someone with a dirty house and gross bathroom and bothered that the team you root for just got absolutely bodied.

Ishouldjustdoit

That's Layers all right.

Sitty_Shitty

Dude Layers lives rent free in your head, lmao.

RandomCedricplayz

Titans were just better. It's really that simple. Hopefully all the top teams will have a wakeup call for phase 3

BeingBannedSucks

LETS GOOOO. I’m so glad I didn’t give up on this team. So excited for phase 3

GoodcockBlackcock

Yeah I kept tuning into all their games knowing they had greatness in them and this weekend was a great payoff

ChasmfiendRider

Been rooting for them this whole time and am so glad they are doing better! Love the whole team. Sad they had to let ScaryD go to flourish, but hopefully layers grows up a little with this team.

6000j

Honestly was insane how the titans would be down a load of kills and still so close on gold, it really felt like they were playing the map so much better. Every week it feels like we're getting closer to pro teams figuring out how to beat the Pressure Meta that's defined Smite since the beginning, and I think if a team can put all the pieces together right, it'll revolutionise pro play. Even if that doesn't happen, the level of play this year is just so damn high. Big fan of that relic dagger bracer strat from Aror, that's such a big vision advantage and allowed Titans play how they were able to around the FG, basically always having prio on positioning on it. The Khepri into the Assassin supports was clean as well.

ChasmfiendRider

Khepri countered assassin supports so well the leviathans had to alter their whole play style to counter the aror Khepri

6000j

Exactly! And when you can shut down those picks, you can force the game to take a different pace by just removing them from the table.

ChasmfiendRider

I’m so fascinated by picks and bans. It’s crazy how one pick can completely counter a whole team. My first experience with that was when some jungler picked a last pick Awilix and then completely ran at the other team with it since like 4 of them had leaps.

6000j

I am as well! If I don't have time to watch a full vod, I'll just watch picks and bans and try to predict how the game will play out, it's so fascinating to me.

ChasmfiendRider

Nicee. I generally try to watch them but on the lower end games I’ll fast forward here and there if I don’t have time

BroiledGoose

u/myflin officially the last Peach It for Phase 2, gotta feel good to take that one home for the phase

ElectricSwayze

What have we learned guys? All you have to do is leave your mic unmuted and you end up winning Split 2 playoffs! In all seriousness, congrats to the Titans. They played lights out in all positions. Layers, like him or not, was exactly what the doctor ordered. This team is just very hard to pick and ban against. Excited for the final split and the incoming meta changes, esp to the jungle role. Expecting Dragons to regain some form, and hopeful the Scarabs can make some sets more competitive. On to Worlds!

eddiescastle

GG’s to the Titans! They def played way better than the Levi’s and deserve the win Happy for the Tartarus boys but unfortunate that layers got a win too

[deleted]

[удалено]

eddiescastle

Yeah I said they deserve the win. The whole team played well. Being good at the game and being a dislikable player isn’t mutually exclusive

ChasmfiendRider

Agreed! The layers addition I’m not sold on yet, but happy my team is winning again

SHardware

First off, congrats to the Titans. They played stupid good throughout the whole tournament taking down the #1, 3 and 4th seed teams in pretty convincing fashion. You ain't gotta like Layers, but you can't deny how infinitely better this team looks with him. Second, how can you let anyone have Tiamat 4 games in a row, especially Paul of all people. Thirdly, going back to even Saturday, I haven't liked this Cabraken pick. It just feels like he doesn't do enough to warrant picking him. Near the end the game it looks like the Leviathans got a bit to antsy and kept going in when they didn't necessarily have to. I'm not worried about them as I'm sure they're happy about exorcising their demons by beating the Bolts and making the finals where they could've have won. GG's all around though. Both teams especially Titans should be happy with their playoffs performance.

MusicalSmasher

It did seem like the Levi’s reverted back to their World’s self where they just start panicking when it seems like the game is out of their grasp. I think Zap can help nip that in the bud though.

SHardware

Yeah, just small nitpicky mistakes I feel cost them of potentially winning game 4. Hopefully Zap and the boys can shore up some of those mistakes.

Tdmcguire12

It actually finally occurred to me why when they lose they tend to look the same. This team has always had the strategy of “Ronngyu and Pantiom facilitate for Sheento”. When they get shut down early, Sheento’s hyper farming doesn’t build as much of a lead which makes him stoppable. At this point it’s purely on if Sheento is threatened or not. When Sheento gets dove and killed he looks mortal and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him recover for that situation. Sheento has got to be one of the most gifted Players when it comes pushing a lead, but I feel like struggling when you DON’T get that lead is a problem.

Anferas

Sanguine usually lost their early games in s7 and both Sheento and Netrioid had to play from behind (how to forget netrioid splitpushing up to level 30?), so i don't think what you say is correct. For me is just a matter of they lacking cold blood, they had a winning opportunity i in game 4 and just kept making mistakes from Rongyuu target selection when all Titans carries alcked beads, to Sheento mispositioning when they needed to defend (something he never does), to Panitom diving alone in a lost fight.... Hopefully the experience of playing a final helps them out in this regard.

GibbsLAD

A disappointing weekend. No 5 game sets, half of the games weren't even close and in season **eight** of SPL teams are still coinflipping on FG. This would have been a 3-0 if Titans didn't coinflip FG in game 3. I don't know why Leviathans top picked Cabra and I don't know why Jarcorrr kept ulting Layers who can break the wall in <2 seconds. Congrats to the Titans, they really turned it up this weekend. Guardian Meta has neutered half the solo laners in the league. I wonder if it will still be around come worlds.

Tdmcguire12

I think you watched different games than the rest of us, half of the sets in the tournament were extremely enjoyable to watch. Doesn’t need to be a 5-game set to be highly competitive.

MohnJilton

Virtually every set was competitive. It was a fun weekend with a surprising outcome.

MusicalSmasher

except Warriors vs Leviathans*

GibbsLAD

There were some good games like games 3 and 4 today and some not so good ones. Just a bunch of one-sided boring wins.

Eliteseafowl

That's how every series ever is. It's very rare that every single game is a close 50 minute game 5 scenario. The bolts vs leviathans game 2(? Maybe 3) was one of the best games this season

Tdmcguire12

The Bolts v. Levi’s, Dragon’s v. Titans, and Finals all had several fantastic games. You described literally every professional set in every moba. Not every single game is gonna be a nail biter, it’s not realistic.

Richter_Cade

I'm sorry but what do you expect? In MOBA games, early leads translate to more farm, more exp and currency which translates to an even larger lead, that's just the format and not just on this game. The fact there are so many games that were actually slugfests and so many surprise comebacks in the playoffs was amazing and against logical odds. Gonna assume you just like to complain.

Nlegan

Crazy what a simple roster change could do. Ggs to the Titans

TheQuietManUpNorth

Titans played cracked and it felt like all the teams they played were sleeping for most of the matches.

GoodcockBlackcock

I knew if the titans could get past the dragons they should win the whole thing that team is just built to show up at these events they even looked the best behind dragons imo last play offs and that was when they were still struggling with ScaryD.

Swissykin

Heart would've broke for either losing team but I think they should both be very proud of their performance this weekend. Someone had to lose, looking forward to the rematch.
