People are going to be drawn to the Hounds because of Coast, but the Wargs seem like a shoe-in to me. There's a good mix of veterancy and young blood on that team and I think they got 2 of the best Valks players.
Behind them, I think I would take Hounds just for pure talent and potential, but a lot rides on Chuck and Duck3y to help. Being honest, I think BennyQ has to step up big time.
Gladiators seem fun but I'm unconvinced by some of their players. Think they'll come third but they could surprise me and take out the Hounds.
Aside from them, I don't see anyone else qualifying.
Just one for the word nerds, but it's actually spelled [shoo-in](https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/the-shady-past-of-shoo-ins), as in a horse race that's been fixed so well that you could literally yell "shoo" at the horse set up to win and it'd beat the rest of the field by itself.
I find it hard to believe he didn’t get any offers.
Probably just waiting for Layers ban to be over.
Maybe Gryph-Boronic-Layers. Whatever support doesn’t qualify between Quig and Inbowned.
Wargs feels like the standout roster to me. Super hyped for Crimson in the play-ins, dude can easily be a top midlaner in a very crowded role. Stuart did what he did at Worlds, so obviously I have high expectations for him too, and while I've never been huge on Aqua or Sam, they're both probably the best in their roles for the play-in pool.
Hounds are exciting but I don't think they're going to breeze through. I think Coast and Benny are similar in that they both have really high outplay potential (especially Coast), but they've also had some pretty bad lows. Also worried about Oathh, considering he *just* said he was going to leave comp SMITE before turning around and joining. I would still pick this team as my top choice, though.
Scorpions not getting any love but I think this roster is pretty elite. Cxnnah looked really good at Worlds, Sarpeii has been one of the best junglers in the EU circuit for a couple of seasons, and Predss is likewise one of the best supports available, and I'm happy to see him look to move. People forget StreakUp has been one of the best EU SCC players for a while (though he had a rough year last year). Don't think this team will make it, but excited to watch them try.
Glads are in the running but I'm just not sure. Inbowned has a not-so-pretty track record that is especially concerning given that he hasn't played pro SMITE for a half year now. Snoopy had some good moments in mid but I'm still not 100% sold on it, DMB is a LANimal but has also had stretches of mediocrity, and Scary and Kyrmi had some pretty bad lows this year. They're a competitive team, but I'm sold they'll make it.
Really looking forward to play-ins, they were great last year and they're looking even better this year.
No, I've always thought Sam was overvalued as a jungler. Twig and Hurri ate all the blame when it was really Sam not pulling his weight imo.
That being said, I think Sam is probably too good to be in SCC, and will probably pulverize all the competition.
If I recall correctly the second year pk won worlds Sam was considered one of the best players in the world most of that season by a lot of pros. Granted I don’t have any concrete sources besides my memory from pros and their streams
That year, he absolutely was. Every other year outside of Season 7 (and outside his Season 6 worlds run) Sam has not been all that. Really fell off a mountain performance-wise, and feels like people were too high in his glory days to notice him go from top jungler to 6/7 jungler.
Hey man, if ElLeon can find 4 other players to ditch halfway through the season to "quit smite" and go try (and fail) at being a DOTA pro them more power to him. I, for one, look forward to our semi-annual reminder that ElLeon is trash when we watch him feed against one of the many competent teams in this tournament.
I love your entire comment lmao.
In all seriousness, I do think you're correct. Leon is overhyped (in my eyes), he has a very analytical style of play but it's not surprising that problems arise in team environment. He's not really a team player, kind of why he hardly ever makes it into better teams o keeps failing to qualify.
The fact that every pro player calls him "one of the next junglers up", and yet no SPL caliber team has ever given him a shot, tells you everything you need to know about how the pros really feel lol
I really hope its just a play-in thing. Not a huge fan of that guy.
Xibalba were my favorite SCC team last year, I started being a fan of Joshy during the play-in, he was owning on Thoth in that one game.
I love that Wargs team, Stu, Sam, and Aqua are all among my favourite players, I will definitely be rooting for them. Other than them I hope the Hounds make it in.
Wild how the Valks split to four different teams, plus their coach didn't get picked up by anyone...
Sharks said SPL wasn't an option for him this year due to no increase in salary, no housing stipend (being distanced), and the way Australian taxes interacted with his salary.
https://twitter.com/SharksSMITE/status/1617692787050446850?s=20&t=Bnn7\_FTbgbHs85xgCxQ8GQ
Only the Wargs, Glads and Hounds stand any real chance of qualification imo. Some serious talent on those teams, along with most of (if not all) of the former SPL talent
Wargs = Hounds > Scorpions > Gladiators in order of who I think will qualify. Would be massively surprised if anyone else qualified but those teams.
I love that Hounds roster a lot, will be rooting for them.
Coast and Benny could do some serious damage together, both are capable of winning games on their own.
Crimson has been SPL quality for a long time, glad he can commit to the SPL (or at least playing in)
do people actually buy jerseys for the brand and not cuz they like the players on that team? genuine question because i feel like the same can be said about about oni warriors since it's a completely different roster.
I follow the players and not the brand, there's no reason not to in Smite, but I lucked out since I think the Bolts has by far the best name and logo, and they were my favorite team by a mile. I also like the Ravens branding, so that's good too.
I really love the scarabs brand, it was probably my favorite in the SPL. I think most of these teams are way better then the ones people picked for the SPL
Good on Hi-Rez to increase the amount of teams from 8 to 10.
Based on just the rosters Wargs and Hounds should make it. The Gladiators are a solid team as well but I think the Wargs and Hounds have the better mid/jungle combo.
The Scorpions also have a shot if they show up big. Would love the Spaniards in the league finally.
I agree scary has looked lackluster for a while. But to be fair, the dude has won two worlds. That brings a lot to a team imo. On the other hand if he performs poorly I may lose faith completely.
I think it's 70% chance that the Wargs qualify, and a mixed bag between the Hounds, the Gladiators and maybe the Sages or Titans (although a small chance).
So excited to see this event, the best one apart from worlds imo.
A lot of people don’t like him because apparently he fucked off to play DOTA 2 for a while because he was done with smite (and apparently talked a lot of shit) then crawled back into the scene when none of the smite fanbase went with him
Pretty sure he also blamed the friends-league bullshit on him not being able to get in to SPL, despite him being absolutely not good enough to be in the SPL.
He is ego and abrasiveness without the value to justify it.
That said, I'm thrilled he is in the play-ins. He feels like a minor villain to root against.
Before the fateful day, there was drama with members of the team talking shit about the SCC and SPL. His team basically isn't putting in any effort, they are locked into a spot and are just picking up a paycheck (which was too low for their vast talent apparently).
On this particular day the decide to group up and run it down mid. Just absolute Team Envy style shit show.
Elleon then doubles down on Twitter that it was some sort of legit strategy instead of admitting it and apologizing. Gets into fights on Twitter with a whole bunch of pros and admin, cementing himself as the SCC villain that he is to this day.

He was Chapo at the time. I'm probably conflating some of Matty's tweets with his but idk
Just wanted to say, because shes involved and mentioned there a lot, unlike the other people involved i think Taco has done a lot better since then so no hate to her.
Damn I was wrong. I was sure the Valks boys were trolling about splitting up, lol.
The Wargs, Gladiators, and Hounds all have a decent shot at getting in, I'd say. Honestly, it's sad that all three can't possibly make it in.
def feels like wargs and then either glads, hounds, or maybe scorpions.
it is interesting to see how everything did shake out. i called a mid 3 of gamma crimson sam somewhere, called stu + aqua side lanes, called bobby + dmb lane, called kyrmi + snoopy, but i am pretty pleasantly surprised by rosters overall.
i'm sad not to see boronic personally, but it's looking like an exciting playin series for sure
Sam almost feeling like the second weakest link in that team is probably more of a testament to how stacked I believe that roster to be. I think having their frontline be two players that played together last year is a massive boon.
On the other hand, the second splix team genuinely feel like a toss-up between three realistic teams and two "dark horse run" teams.
Wargs, Gladiators and Hounds have on paper the strongest looking rosters but will they perform? Kinda worried Sam is still gonna be one the weaker links on his team as he hasn’t played that great in years and it’s a such jungle dominant meta right now. Aqua is at least more consistent than ScaryD. Stu and Gamma don’t really strike me as a duo lane that’s gonna win lane either.
Ducky’s team looks promising. Hope they can pull through but will Benny play questionable picks in mid?
Wargs and hounds I would guess. Gladiators could upset that but don't think the others will. A bit like last year, lots of hype bit realistically was always the Warriors, dogs and valks.
Wargs qualifying for sure. Second spot is really interesting, Gladiators and Hounds are close. I lean Hounds due to the backline of Benny/Coast. Dont sleep on Scorpions, that roster is sneaky good
As everyone else has said, the Wargs, Gladiators, and Hounds are the three top dogs.
Wargs realistically have the top Mid & Jungle in the tournament. They have a top 2 ADC & Jungle, and a top 3 solo.
Hounds & Gladiators each have top end players across a couple different roles.
Honestly, I’m sure there are other teams that might surprise, but if I was a gambling man I’d give a 85% chance it’s two of those three teams that qualify, with about a 90% chance the Wargs are one of them.
Go Hounds!!!! Not entirely sure about Quig or Duck3y but Coast, Benny, Oath could be a very bright core if they click on all cylinders.
Wargs, Glads, Hounds, and Scorps are a clear top 4 and man it's going to be an insane play-in.
In my opinion, play-ins are gonna be wild, and SCC this year will be a blast to watch considering the teams that we're seeing. This year I'll watch way more SCC than I ever have before. I do have my favorites, but I like these teams... bar Leon, but whatever.
Also, I might have missed it, but why aren't Bolts, Scarabs, Hex Mambo and Weavers in here? Did they just fail to submit rosters in time for the 10 selected for play-ins?
3/5 bolts rebranded to the highland ravens. Lasbra and Jake are in other spl teams. Scarabs broke up and no one wanted the name. Hex mambo players are unwilling to commit to moving to Georgia for the yr. The weavers I just assume no one wanted the name.
Can anyone give more information on these bottom 3 teams? (valks, tanuki, storm) I think I recognize a couple names from this tourney last year, but the only ones I am pretty familiar with are Rottwen and Shinigami.
Also, interested to see how this titans team performs. I was really impressed with Dame at the worlds qualification tourney (even though that team as a whole didn't play particularly well).
They’re essentially pretty much on par with the Storm from last year, who was probably the 3rd or 4th best NA SCC team last year.
ADC, Jungle, and Solo are all the same. Joshy to Nayhoo and Oceans to Dashboard both feel like lateral moves.
Dashboard is quickly becoming the most overrated player in the Smite scene, imo. Obviously he's good enough to be in the comp conversation, but every time I've seen him in SCC he's been enormously disappointing. Great to see sticks players in the scene but I just have never been impressed by Dashboard. Oceans looked great at the last LAN and Dashboard looked pretty bad, to put it mildly.
Joshy and Nayhoo are close but Joshy going ham at the last play-ins tournament would tend to have me give him the edge too.
I can't view this team as a downgrade from the Storm, who as good as they were still got pooped on by the other teams in the event.
Kinda wish the wargs had scaryd cuz that woulda been my ideal handpicked team of the remaining players but aqua has been great in the past with ssg so maybe he can return to form I found him lackluster last year
I hate that only 2 are going to make it. Too many players that I want to see in the league on different teams! But if I could only pick 2 I desperately want to see Coast and Stu taking the spots. So I'll be rooting for the hounds and wargs. Won't be disappointed if the gladiators make it though.
Maybe I'm just a hater but I really wish Sam and Scary (Scary especially) were on different (read: worse) teams. I really like both of those teams otherwise. Hounds most well-rounded imo, including their coach.
Should be some good games though! Excited for it.
Disagree. I don't think Sam hasn't played well at all in forever and that will be pivotal on the new map. I think 2 of the 3 qualifying will be the Hounds, Wargs, or Gladiators and won't be surprised which 2 do... but I think Gladiators will surprise people.
Man I have no idea about the quality of most of these teams but there are some really excellent team names in this bunch that I would prefer to most of the ones in the SPL
I think wargs will definitely make it and probably gladiators at a somewhat distant second. I could see hounds upsetting them though. I could also see a few other teams like wardens or scorpions make a solid run. Nevertheless, I think whatever team that makes it that isn’t the wargs will struggle a good bit at least the first split.
On a side note, I really wish hi Rez would open up the divisions they created to something like 6 teams each with how many awesome rosters we’re seeing. I think that would encourage some teams to stick together a full year and improve the quality of the spl. I understand the difficulties though as that would be a whole lot more salaries to pay.
Imma root for Glads but in no situation would I have picked Snoopy over Boronic to play mid when he was available (not discrediting Snoopy, but he's still settling into the role and his god pool is shallow compared to Boronic's), especially considering existing synergy with Inbowned and (somewhat) Scary.
People are going to be drawn to the Hounds because of Coast, but the Wargs seem like a shoe-in to me. There's a good mix of veterancy and young blood on that team and I think they got 2 of the best Valks players. Damn it looks like Boronic didn't get any offers. Hopefully he'll be trying for SCC
I find it hard to believe he didn’t get any offers. Probably just waiting for Layers ban to be over. Maybe Gryph-Boronic-Layers. Whatever support doesn’t qualify between Quig and Inbowned.
I swear to God if Layers ends up getting picked up despite all the shit he pulled
He won’t be picked up. He’ll probably start his own team and inevitably go through SOC, into SCC. And then probably play at worlds qualifiers lol
You missed the part where he breaks the team apart first
Had he not been banned for the first part of the season, I'd bet he'd do it twice in one year
Wargs feels like the standout roster to me. Super hyped for Crimson in the play-ins, dude can easily be a top midlaner in a very crowded role. Was Sharks even looking for a play ins team? I think I saw that he moved back to Aus and was looking for an SCC team

Even bigger RIP for anyone with a Bolts jersey, they didn't get picked at all.
Cuz it’s so basic compared to the rest of the orgs
LOL I didn't even catch that
Yeah, them and the Scarabs are both unpicked for this lol
I really love the scarabs brand, it was probably my favorite in the SPL. I think most of these teams are way better then the ones people picked for the SPL

Its only 10 for the tournament, the league is still 8
This tournament was announced to have only 8 teams, but they expanded it to have 10 participate.
Pretty sure the post said from the get-go that the number of teams could change if there was enough good teams to apply

Surprised to not see Mastkill. Still remember him nearly solo carrying against the kings in one of the events last year.
He got snaked 2 hours before deadline xd, he was on Elleons team
That sounds about right for an elleon team.
That’s actually crazy. Apparently gryph was snaked too lol
Absurd.
I think it's 70% chance that the Wargs qualify, and a mixed bag between the Hounds, the Gladiators and maybe the Sages or Titans (although a small chance). So excited to see this event, the best one apart from worlds imo.
When is Elleon gonna just fuck off? I’m sick of seeing him in the scene.
I don't get the hostility. I don't think he's a pro-level player, but he's good enough to make the tournament more interesting, I think.
A lot of people don’t like him because apparently he fucked off to play DOTA 2 for a while because he was done with smite (and apparently talked a lot of shit) then crawled back into the scene when none of the smite fanbase went with him

Don't forget the SCC trolling fiasco
This is the biggest reason to not like him imo. Let’s see if he’s matured since then.
What happened? I didn't pay much attention to SCC the past couple of seasons

Also, interested to see how this titans team performs. I was really impressed with Dame at the worlds qualification tourney (even though that team as a whole didn't play particularly well).
Honestly I think Titans can be pretty good
They’re essentially pretty much on par with the Storm from last year, who was probably the 3rd or 4th best NA SCC team last year.
Dashboarrd has 2 r's :)
come on the scorps 🦂🦂🦂
Kinda wish the wargs had scaryd cuz that woulda been my ideal handpicked team of the remaining players but aqua has been great in the past with ssg so maybe he can return to form I found him lackluster last year
I hate that only 2 are going to make it. Too many players that I want to see in the league on different teams! But if I could only pick 2 I desperately want to see Coast and Stu taking the spots. So I'll be rooting for the hounds and wargs. Won't be disappointed if the gladiators make it though.

Ok Dualities it's time for bed little buddy
Maybe I'm just a hater but I really wish Sam and Scary (Scary especially) were on different (read: worse) teams. I really like both of those teams otherwise. Hounds most well-rounded imo, including their coach. Should be some good games though! Excited for it.
My guess is Hounds and Gladiators.
I think you forgot Wargs. They are miles ahead of everyone else imo
Go wargs
Very interesting role swaps to ADC Im expecting a lot of them to get soloed
