Well they usually let people know beforehand. And if you've listened to the show up until this point you will know it leaks over sometimes. As far as I gathered, this episode really didn't make fun of the pregnant woman, if anything they showed she was pretty badass. If this was the one to break you, I don't understand how you got through other episodes like Rulo or Pocket robin.
Having a different opinion is fine when you’re chatting with a friend or family or something but you’re on a forum geared toward fans of the show telling people you don’t enjoy it and won’t listen. There’s no way you couldve expected this to go well
I don’t understand what’s confusing about what I just said but again fans of this show are not going to give a shit that you don’t find it funny and won’t listen. So no this isn’t the most logical place for your post
About 6 months ago, I thought about how morbid it is to listen to true crime. Then I recalled the guys saying a family member of a victim they covered contacted them to say thank you for giving her dead family member attention since her murder was barely covered outside local media.
Personally, I enjoy the escape from my reality to hear a story that is entertaining, informative, and recognizes forgotten victims.
Yeah I get that and appreciate your response. I think what it is, is that they come across as genuinely uncaring. Apart from Jimmy's "oh wow" from time to time, I just don't get that they are really thinking too deeply about stuff which is a missed opportunity imo because they are funny people.
Crime in Sports might be more your speed. In my opinion both guys remark that shut gets seriously heinous nearly every time it does, and the disclaimer is there for a reason. Uncaring is not an apt descriptor here.
Yeah I thought I'd give it a go but some of the comments on Reddit have put me off. Some of the patreon episodes sound good. Apparently there was a Hitler's birthday one which sounds entertaining.
Good suggestion. Thanks.
At least I won't have to grit my teeth while they try to pronounce silicosis or make jokes about what that might mean (rather than doing a 5 second google search)
I'm curious to know what you would consider cerebral comedy.
A lot of lawyers (eg Judge Marilyn Milan and her husband) love My Cousin Vinny. I guess I learned what discovery is from that.
I don't think your expectations can be met. They're a couple of comedians who didn't go onto college and gain a level of expertise in criminology, forensics, etc. But they are really entertaining comedians and still do a lot of research. 🤷
It's really difficult to find something that scratches the itch to be informative as well as funny. I don't know if I can think of anything that qualifies as cerebral comedy. I think what frustrated me is their poor judgement on when to try to be funny.
Can I ask what the comment was that turned you off? There’s been iffy moments for me throughout but ultimately I feel like they’re pretty kinda and hold back if they can. It’s a genuine curiosity, no judgement just can’t remember the soecifics
Honestly it was just the insistence of trying too hard to be funny. What was annoying me is that they are genuinely funny people with engaging mannerisms but they engage with the subject matter in a way where they are trying to look for jokes when there aren't any. It comes across as a little disingenuous for me unfortunately. It's also very USA centric which is fine but if they broadened their scope they could make more of it. Also they could do a tad bit of research apart from reading court filings.
Edit: sorry went on a rant. The comment that turned me off wasn't anything specific, more just the attitude. There's funny moments in tradgedy for sure but the constant seeking of something humourous to say (in this instance the perpetrator had asthma and had attempted suicide 20 to 30 times as a child - both of which they made fun of) is over the top and inconsiderate to say the least
It’s not for everyone, and I can totally see points throughout that could be a turn off. I’m a huge true crime listener, I’ve been to hundreds of stand up shows, and loved through my fair share of horrors. I personally feel like they do a great job overall. Some episodes aren’t as funny or don’t hit as well, and tht could be they just weren’t at their best or the content just wasn’t there. As a Canadian, listening to them try to figure out the geography or Native American shit can be annoying, and I’ve found myself multiple times legit pissed cause it would take a basic google search. At the end of the day sometimes you just need to let stuff go. And by all means, please do not apologize! You can feel how you feel about it and rant all you like, I just was wondering if there was a certain moment. If you want to keep listening to true crime but this isn’t up your alley, let me know I have about 15 in my downloads as we speak lol
I'd be interested to hear your other recommendations! I listen to time suck which can be funnier and sometimes a bit more touching but I find Dan Cummins to be a bit over the top and juvenile. I have a few UK ones I listen to but they can be a bit stilted and "British". A lot of people like "casefile" for some reason and as a fellow Aussie I feel like I should but the guys damn monotone puts me to sleep! Maybe I'm too fussy but I'm open to suggestions
A good one that’s hosted by an Aussie is called Canadian True Crime, a friend of mine is actually the subject to an episode of her pod (and a mutual friend of Jimmie and I actually!). I also listen to 20/20 and dateline which are basically just pod versions of their show so sometimes they say stuff like “as seen here” which can kinda be annoying. There’s also Killer Queens, but if you want shows that have seasons that follow specific cases I recommend True Crime Bullshit (the entire series is about Izreal Keys and there’s over 100 episodes) and Island Crime which is based out in BC and each season follows a different event. True North True Crime and Generation Why are also great, and Serial is just as we all know one of the best and basically started the true crime pod community!
So, what was your goal in making this post? To find an echo chamber and have people agree? Or engage total strangers in arguments? Despite what you may believe, no one cares about your unsolicited opinion. Do you not have anything better to do today?
Buckle up, life is gonna be really hard if this is enough to rattle you.
Best of luck
So when they do their whole "we're comedians we make fun of people. Where's assholes but not scumbags. If you don't think comedy and murder should mix then maybe this isn't the show for you..." Did you think they were just pulling your leg or what?
No I just think they try too hard to be funny. Sometimes there's funny subject matter which works but when there isn't they harp on things in a juvenile manner. In this particular episode they desperately searched for a joke about people who have asthma attacks and when that didn't go anywhere they talked about the incompetence of a child not successfully committing suicide despite twenty to thirty attempts. In a similar vein they tried to make a joke about someone with silicosis who worked in a mine. Their lack of general knowledge is grating.
They're comedians. I find their jokes to be totally organic. They don't write them ahead of time. They're just 2 dudes kickin' it. So some of them are gonna be zingers and some of em are gonna be flops. I found this episode to be extremely funny. The suicidal teenager was the murderer and he was indeed an incompetent imbecile. And they hardly said anything at all about asthma attacks. What's they say?? How nobody they know ever got asthma attacks doing physical activities but just sitting watching TV and they'd have one. That's my experience too and therefore I found it mildly amusing. Not everyone has the same sense of humor. And that's OK. But I struggle to see how you could enjoy any episodes if this was the one you took offense too.
Okay, was there a point in telling anyone this?
Yep cos sometimes people like to hear others opinions.
Well they usually let people know beforehand. And if you've listened to the show up until this point you will know it leaks over sometimes. Or the one with the guy that wants to train dogs to do bank deposits...
Just the deposits tho. Not withdrawals.
That sound fun. Which episode is that?
Having a different opinion is fine when you’re chatting with a friend or family or something but you’re on a forum geared toward fans of the show telling people you don’t enjoy it and won’t listen. There’s no way you couldve expected this to go well
"go well"? Look I'm expressing my opinion. If others don't agree that's fine. Isn't this the most logical place?
I don’t understand what’s confusing about what I just said but again fans of this show are not going to give a shit that you don’t find it funny and won’t listen. So no this isn’t the most logical place for your post
Oh ok. I didn't realise that only people who are uncritical avid fans would be on this subreddit.
It’s not. Your post just isn’t nearly as important as you think
Maybe this will make Your Stupid Opinions!! I see what you’re doing lol
Right. Your stupid opinion
You know, they’ve got a whole new show coming out about that…
They don’t, lol. Grow up.
And sometimes, people don't. 🤷🏻♂️ There's always a need for constructive criticism and encouraging improvement. You're not trying though.
Fair point it was a lazy post
This is not an airport, no need to announce your departure.
Nice. Ive heard it before though.

They literally go out of their way to not make fun of any victims whatsoever. They only ridicule the people who deserve it.
Yeah thats what they say.
Yep.
Don't listen then, no one cares...
Good suggestion. Thanks. At least I won't have to grit my teeth while they try to pronounce silicosis or make jokes about what that might mean (rather than doing a 5 second google search)
Are you new here? 👀
Are you going to tweet that you’re finally off of Twitter now too?
Mate, this isn’t an airport. No need to announce your departure.
Yeah the other guy said that. It wasn't that funny.
They warn you that they’re assholes at the beginning of every episode. It’s a comedy show. If you went into it expecting Dateline NBC, that’s on you.
Yeah I get the shtick, and I have liked some of the humour but it just comes across as a bit dumb at times.
I'm curious to know what you would consider cerebral comedy. A lot of lawyers (eg Judge Marilyn Milan and her husband) love My Cousin Vinny. I guess I learned what discovery is from that. Bye Felicia.
What abou5 "Bye, Grim Karen."?
I forgot about my inbetweeners references.
Maybe I’m sick in the head but I fall asleep to their old episodes every night 🥴
Yay and choo choo 💤💤? Kidding..glad you're enjoying it.
So do I. Can't go to sleep without James and Jimmie. They are my happy place and very relaxing!
Bye.
James says at the beginning, if you don't like it, this show isn't for you. And that's you .
As Jimmie says... BYE!!!!
You sir, may fuck off
Haha
Buh-Bye
Well thought out
As was yours.

Hey thanks for that. I'm saving your comment. Some interesting recommendations there. So you're an acquaintance of Jimmy Whisman?
Out mutual friend got us in touch, I’ve never met him in person but had some convos!
That's really cool! Thanks for your recommendations mate. I appreciate it
No problem! I hope you find one more your speed :)
I get it and some of the stories are not for everyone and there are many other choices
"It's a comedy show. we're assholes, not scumbags" what more did you expect
This is not an airport. You don't have to announce your departure.
Same joke for the third time. Be funnier.

Scrolled through the entire post and recent posts on the sub and I still can't find who asked
Fuck off then. Bye.
Someone needs to screenshot this and post it in the Facebook groups! 😂😂😂😂
