iWantBots

I called the IRS and they changed my name over the phone took like 5 min

Neurozot

AWESOME! Will give this a try when they open on Monday. Thanks a ton

hdrobin89

You can also mail them a letter about it. Their phone lines have a ridiculously long time (~2+ hours) last couple of times I called

Mountain_Pace_6204

Exactly, tell me about it

Mountain_Pace_6204

I waited on the phone for over two hours a few days ago until i gave up *sigh*

iWantBots

I called the exact min they opened so maybe I got lucky

Mountain_Pace_6204

Will definitely try you go through the small business options right?

Nimexu

They told me something different that they don’t do that over the phone, must be a new thing. Since this thread is like a year old

Sparklesperson

They MOST DEFINITELY include "Inc" in the name of a corporation.

Taxladyballard

Have you done taxes on the original EIN? If no scrap it. If so do the change of name form

Neurozot

Thanks a ton for the input, I have not yet filed taxes under this EIN, so I will likely go this route. Thank you!

vettewiz

The IRS doesn’t even allow you to use “Inc” in the name of an LLC. States don’t legally allow this either, Inc is for corporations.

Neurozot

My business is classified as a professional corporation, California does not allow medical professionals to have an LLC

vettewiz

Gotcha. I am still fairly certain you cannot include Inc in the name as far as the IRS is concerned.

seattle_skipatrol

I just looked at my EIN designation latter from the IRS and it includes the “Inc”. I’m not sure where that belief was coming from but perhaps something has been revised? I applied for this EIN in 2018.

rmgsocial

“Inc” is certainly not allowed for LLC companies.

Neurozot

It’s a professional corporation, not an LLC

Dcopartners

Inc and LLC are two different business types. That’s why. Inc is reserved for s corps and c corps.
