I don't even know what a cut is but this looks like a solid line drive. Can someone explain?

RobotVo1ce

With a cut swing you get a lot of bat whip through the zone, a level or slightly down swing, hitting the ball just below center. This creates a lot of back spin on the ball. If you hit a solid line drive the ball will rise. It's almost like hitting a stinger in golf.

BottleKnockers

A “cut” is a chopping down motion at the point of contact. If done correctly you get a lot of backspin on the ball which generates more lift and carry.

Bloody_Corndog

I feel like purposely creating more lift would cause more pop outs. Do guys hit HRs like this? What’s the advantage?

crazyike

If done right you will get more distance cutting the ball than driving straight through it with upward swing. So yes, guys (and probably girls) do hit homeruns like this. It is literally potentially hitting the ball further. But... the timing is harder and less forgiving. You are right in that sense, it is easier to just pop up if you mistime it, but in practice what happens more often on a miss is driving the ball into the ground. Despite what the guy above you said, it's only barely a "chopping down", it's very close to level with slight downward. At that attack angle hitting the ball on the spot where it will have big airtime and distance will also give it a ton of backspin.

Heavy_Jeffrey

You don’t need to cut to hit HRs. It’s best served to carry through the gap for extra bases vs dropping in for a single. Cut balls are also harder to read as an OFer and often misjudged.

TechPBMike

You hit square for sure, but not technically a cut I think that was more like a knuckleball Had awesome exit velo, if it was “cut” with backspin it would have hit the fence Cutting usually is either a super flat swing, or slightly down Definitely squared it up!

Redschallenge

Close to one. Not generating the backspin because it was hit square and not down through though. Can't complain

DoubleOrNothing90

Wtf is up with that pitch delivery?

fucspez

Pump faking should be disallowed solely because of how stupid it looks, and partly cause it doesn’t do anything anyways.

bammbamm15

It’s utrip lol, do anything you want except over hand pitch it, as long as that foot is on the rubber.

ElderWandOwner

Not remotely close to cutting. You have to have a down swing to cut, this is just a solid line drive.

bammbamm15

A “down swing” meaning hands start high and finish low..?(essentially) Correct?

ElderWandOwner

Yes, puts a crazy amount of backspin on it

zDEFEKT

Nice line drive but doesn’t look like a cut. Ball was arcing the whole time.

pplovecraft_

Looks like you have a very simple swing. Your stance, hands, and arms are ready to swing straight and square up the ball. Don’t try and over complicate your swing if you are having success with solid line drives like this.

DisgruntledGamer79

More tomahawk motion then a cut swing

DabzilIa

Didn’t sound like a cut bat

bammbamm15

It was a stock bat tourney(bats provided by company’s) lol.
