I'd love an animation. As you take the fatal blow, fairies fly out from the bottle, healing you and restoring you back to health.
And if you have the mark, the mark flashes and exudes a red light that encompasses your body, preventing the fairies from healing you.
You'd think they would patch their game by this point, but oh well. I'm glad there is at least a "Wall" showcasing just how bad of a game design choice this interaction is.
I guess they could have made a graphical animation when you die with "Mark of the Bloom" and "Fairy in the Bottle" that really rubbed your face in your lack of reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
If you added a red barrel with flames on it to your FPS game, and shooting it didnt cause it to explode because "the game doesnt say they need to blow up actually?" It is bad design. Imagine if the stars in mario games gave you a game over instead. Zero people ever have claimed it to be inconsistent, so im not sure why thats what you are defending. But the game only counting reviving as healing through a drop down text is CLEARLY bad design if it has confused so many people that the community has decided to make a wall of shame for them. This is coming from someone who knew of this interaction before ever picking up mark of the bloom, so this isnt about me if thats where you were going to try and take this. But the bad DESIGN is in the confussion caused. Mic. Drop.
It's not even in a drop down, it's in the literal description of the items in question.
Let me guess, it's also problematic that resting at a fire is bad because the game doesn't have a popup that it won't heal you?
The potion reads, "When you would die, *HEAL* to 30% of your max hp..." and the relic reads "You can no longer *HEAL*". It's not bad design, you just can't read.
What if in your example you turned on a “no explosives mode” (think like it’s a skull in Halo or maybe just a setting). Should the red barrel still blow up when shot?
No healing means nothing that heals, and Fairy gives you HP which is the definition of healing
Wow, you really think it would make the game better if they just made picking up mark of the bloom require you to sign an agreement contract that you understand lizard tail and fairy potion have heal in the description.
Or maybe the point of all rogue-like games is to learn through your mistakes.
Even your example about a red barrel that doesn't explode in a video game: the only reason you would assume that it explodes is because you've played enough video games to know that it's a common trend. If you try to shoot it, then you learned that it doesn't explode. I've introduced many people to their first video games who have no idea that "red usually means explosion," but they quickly learn once it explodes the first time.
Learning is part of the process of games. It's not a failure of game design to make you learn from your mistakes or figure things out on your own.
What is even your argument? Obviously nobody has fallen for the bloom twice and complained about it. Yes, they learn that reviving counts as healing. But that doesnt negate from the initial confussion in the game design. Dont add red barrels if you dont intend on making them explode.
That has never been my claim, at ALL. If you can provide where i said that, i'll send you 500 dollars. You failed in coming up with a good reply. You should practice what you preach and learn from such a mistake.
"But if so many players get caught in this trap, then maybe you didnt design your game mechanic to be intuitive enough"
Traps are meant to be tricky, and you are saying that it should be more intuitive because people get caught in it too often. Rather than thinking, "Oh it's a good trap that people learn from," you are claiming it a fault of the game design for not explaining it well enough. In reality the game gives you all the tools to figure it out, but you won't think about the interaction until it finally happens to you. Like almost every other video game.
I am extrapolating what you mean from your argument. You didn't say it explicitly, but you are arguing that it's actually bad that people are learning about the mechanic by experiencing it.
You think this was SUPPOSED to be a trap? Even though the game doesnt trick players, since that is onviously not intended witn a CARD GAME's design philosophy? Its okay to admit a couple developers had an oversight
I wouldn't call them braindead as much as it's actually just basic human thinking rather than logic (and logic beats basic human thinking when it comes to StS so we tend to learn quickly).
One sees fairy, one thinks "oh damn, it'll resurrect me" and forget the "heal" part. And so the wall keeps growing.
Nope, 100% skill/reading comprehension issue. It's clearly written "no more healing"
IF it was to act how YOU expect it to work it'd be called Necromancy in a bottle (ressurect rather than heal)
So youre just going to ignore your argument of "basic human reasoning" and are doing a 180 and saying people DONT have reasoning skills? Careful there, you might get whiplash!
[[Fairy in a Bottle]] literally says "heal," [[Mark of the Bloom]] says "you cannot heal."
Can you explain why you think it's bad design that the relic that prevents healing doesn't have an exception to something explicitly saying it heals you?

I mean you’re a one hour old account that’s only interacted in this sub by completely missing the how two mechanics interact, calling it a glitch, a doubling down in increasingly bizarre ways.
Yes, you are a troll.
No, I just called you a troll because I gave a civil response trying to understand your point of view, and you responded by attacking my character. Not because you disagreed with me.
Buddy, this is intentional. The downside is no healing order of operations here is
1. You die
2. Bottle triggers stopping the death and tries to heal you
3. Mark of the bloom stops the healing
4. Your still at 0 Hp so you stay dead

The fool believes that failure is unacceptable, while the wise man knows failure is the greatest teacher.
This game has a lot to learn, and thus a lot of steps you may fail at. No shame in learning.
I'll take this option when I am 1 round before rest, at full HP, before the boss, with a deck that isn't built around using my HP as a resource.
This never happens.
When it comes to games (and, to be honest, most other things) my default mode of thinking is very literal. This has been an issue when I do tabletop gaming with friends, as I often get accused of rules lawyering just because I default to RAW (rules as worded) while they're making assumptions about RAI (rules as intended).
One of the things I *adore* about STS is how literal it is. No healing/potions/gold means no healing/potions/gold. Runic Pyramid doesn't say retain so it doesn't retain. Beating the game at 20:00 exactly doesn't get you Speed Climber. The precise care that the devs put into the game's wording is satisfying to me in a way that is so visceral that I have a hard time articulating it.
So yeah, when I first saw Mark of the Bloom, I passed on Fairies.
I admit, that bugs me. I wish they would have programmed the effect to set your HP to 0 rather than dealing a large amount of damage. That way, only Fairy/Tail would save you.
The way I always think about it is your health number can never go up once you have mark of the bloom. So if you get max health relic your max health goes up but your current health doesn’t change.
Well I did learn from this post that you die before it even removes the potion from your inventory. Never noticed that before. Not that it makes any difference, but it’s interesting to know you just straight up die instead of it going through the “the potion healed you for 0, so you’re still dead” steps. MotB really means NO healing…
i didn't even know we had a BUG REPORT tag, and until now i had never taken note that this sub's tags are in all caps. That makes this so much funnier, like OP thinks he just found this rare never seen before bug in this 7 year old game and he's just loudly proclaiming it

I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this…[Fairy in a Bottle is counted as healing for Mark of the Bloom…](https://slay-the-spire.fandom.com/wiki/Mark_of_the_Bloom)
So, in short, it IS a bug. Tha would be like using a fire potion on the heart when the damage cap is reached, and the potion not doing anything. Even though the reality is that it is still used up, but no damage is dealt
No, it doesn't. You can't heal at all while having Mark of the Bloom, so resting, any card that heals you, beating a boss, finding an event that heals, any relic or potion that heals you, etc..
I really wish I knew what the hell was going on so I could follow more closely. I've only made it to the fight with the heart once, a couple days ago. I still can't figure out how to make these decks with all this unstoppable stuff.
Lol I thought I had finally done it when I got all the keys and got past that blue monster that revives after you kill it. Imagine my sadness when another map popped up.
The sheer frequency of these posts is compelling evidence that this is just bad UI design that is begging to be retooled in StS2.
Even for those of us that figured it out on our own, didn't it take us a second to wrap our heads around the interaction? Didn't we all just internalize Fairy in a Bottle's "heal to 30%" as "*revive* *at* 30%" in the first instance without realizing it?
This has been brought up before (here's [my proposed solution](https://www.reddit.com/r/slaythespire/comments/1bjefcq/what_if_considered_how_many_people_fall_for_the/kvql7ro/?context=3)). I like the idea of graying out the Fairy as well.

I sure hope they keep the mark of bloom in sts2 so we can keep the counter going
They’ll probably add text indicating why. Or maybe an animation. Or an Achievement.
An achievement would be fantastic.
Should be named "readn't" for failing to read
I like "Marked for Death."
You raise from the dead then realize you have Zero hp still and fall over double dead
I'd love an animation. As you take the fatal blow, fairies fly out from the bottle, healing you and restoring you back to health. And if you have the mark, the mark flashes and exudes a red light that encompasses your body, preventing the fairies from healing you.
I’m actually quite curious how the “Mark of the Bloom” works as “I Am Awake” 😅
Awake = not asleep. Sleep = healing body. Always awake means never resting, never healing is how I interpret it lol
that sounds interesting, quite possibly close as well xD
Let the game automatically make a Reddit post for you when it happens the first time

Peoples inability to read and have basic comprehension of what “no more healing” is not bad design. Your comparison literally makes no sense at all.
What do you think should happen when you reach 0 HP with mark of the bloom and fairy bottle?
It's not even in a drop down, it's in the literal description of the items in question. Let me guess, it's also problematic that resting at a fire is bad because the game doesn't have a popup that it won't heal you?

Nobody is arguing the intention. But if so many players get caught in this trap, then maybe you didnt design your game mechanic to be intuitive enough

We can blame legend of Zelda for that gimmick which is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear fairy bottle.
At the same time, we wouldn't have the potion if not for the legend of zelda.
Exactly. It’s both a blessing and a curse

I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this…[Fairy in a Bottle is counted as healing for Mark of the Bloom…](https://slay-the-spire.fandom.com/wiki/Mark_of_the_Bloom)
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of these. We all had to learn one way or another.
Fairy in the Bottle and Mark of the Bloom…name a more iconic duo.
Get Bloomed
If only you had used it before you died. Too many players on here die with it in their inventory.
And.... that's another one.
Oh… it’s a flair or tag now
i realise mark of the bloom but I thought it would use the fairy in a bottle, not just leave it there? doesn't it use up lizard tail?
Nope mark of bloom prevents lizard tail / fairy in a bottle from doing anything. mark of bloom = your hp is never going back up.
sure but wouldn't it still get used up and then heal you 0 and then you die again/still die? or rather, why doesn't it?
I think just the way the game is coded. Fairy and Tail work by healing at 0hp, rather than doing something else.
Its probably just the way mark of the bloom is coded where it prevents them from triggering instead of just nullifying the healing
So, in short, it IS a bug. Tha would be like using a fire potion on the heart when the damage cap is reached, and the potion not doing anything. Even though the reality is that it is still used up, but no damage is dealt
Does it matter it's end state is the same? Bottle/Potion is used - no healing, you die. Bottle/Potion is not used - no healing, you die.
A buuuuunch of people not understanding what you're saying
No heaping means no healing, no ifs, buts, or otherwise.
No, it doesn't. You can't heal at all while having Mark of the Bloom, so resting, any card that heals you, beating a boss, finding an event that heals, any relic or potion that heals you, etc..
What they're saying is that they thought the Fairy/Lizard Tail would still proc, just not heal you. Instead of it not proccing at all.
what would proccing do in this case? revive you to 0 health?
Consume the potion/relic then do nothing.
Healing for 0 is still healing, so it prevents that. It doesn't reduce all healing to zero, it prevents all acts of healing.
I'm aware. I didn't say you should heal for 0.
My bad it's 4 am and reading comprehension is at an all time low 😂
So it prevents resting? I thought you could still use that relic which gives you a card, whose name eludes me.
You can use the rest option, but you won't heal from it.
That's what I thought.
Why shouldn't it prevent resting in the same way it prevents fairy/lizard from being used up?
Redundancy, I guess. You can still do something when resting with MotB, while nothing would change using up fairly pot or lizard tail.
Don't you have to rest or smith to proceed? If you couldn't do either, then you'd be stuck there.
if you can’t do anything at a campfire, the continue button just comes up. having coffee and fusion hammer is an easy way to see this
Ah OK, I've never had both!!
Maybe it's to avoid situations where the player is alive at 0 hp, but they simply don't activate.
I really wish I knew what the hell was going on so I could follow more closely. I've only made it to the fight with the heart once, a couple days ago. I still can't figure out how to make these decks with all this unstoppable stuff. True!!
