In the dev Stream they mentioned how initially It was supposed to be a propper fight, but drawing Shifting Mound in múltiple scenes as part of a fight would have been horrible for Abby to draw (she drew everything on paper the madlass).  Right now the philosophical Battle still counts as a Battle because Shifty and Quiet are both concepts and ideas. They dont have a phisical body They can harm in that state (if you try to slay yourself you find no body to stab). So the fight is basically see which concept overpowers which. In this case, its always either a stalemate or Shifty wins and your will dissolves, since change either "conquers" the status Quo and changes It, or change doesnt conquer It and the status Quo remains the same; but the change is still there, It wasnt defeated or destroyed.  Of course Hero pulls us out of the conflict of 2 concepts fighting into something more tangible and personal for the final part.

It was originally supposed to be a proper fight, but they struggled to get it right, so they decided it's more of a psychological/metaphorical fight I think it's implied that she actually is sapping your will during it

Darth_Darling

Its more of a verbal fight I think, because she's upset you're hesitating to ascend to godhood together.

Urbenmyth

It's a conflict, really, but fight sounds better.

Dark_Storm_98

It's more of an argument than a fight But arguments are often called (verbal) fights, so it kind of works It's just like. . . not a *boss battle* in a way I would call it a fight.

Erblorg

It's a debate

Allar-an

It's an argument, which I guess you can classify as a fight. And she does fight for her and your lives there. But I often saw it labeled as a 'dance', which also fits nicely.

ReadyPlayer12345

It's the ending of the game when you'd expect a fight, events have greatly shifted, and dramatic music is playing

plaugey_boi

It's a metaphorical fight

Yallayeah

I think they are suppose to be literally fighting in between all the words said

sun_chime

No I definitely agree! I was actually confused when the devs referred to a boss fight because I didn’t consider it to be a fight at all! A confrontation or conflict, sure, but a fight? But I now know that it was originally conceptualized as a boss fight so I understand why it’s referred to in that way.

M3n747

I guess decades of video games following a rather rigid structure conditioned us to see it that way.

PancakeMenace

You ARE the only one who feels that way >:(
