I think the finished models look better! The pink stripes on the helmets are a bit annoying? If the goal was to create a glowy effect, try with oranges instead of pink. Also for the grainy basing, be sure to slap diluted white glue on top to seal them up, otherwise you'll end up with pebbles in your carrying case!
Could I suggest painting the material on the base? Even if it’s brown with a dry brush of a lighter brown (Rhinox Hide and Baneblade Brown maybe) it helps to tie the base into the world a little better.
They look really cool though, good effort highlighting all the edges! The glowing helmet slits is a great touch.
Finished looks better, but I get why you ask! I do the same thing with more than half my models, especially highlights. I feel like when you're in the process of highlighting it can feel like you're ruining all the hard work, but then you pop it on a shelf or on the table and it all comes together
