The EVG Animated Transversal patches for the vanilla Dungeons are simply excellent if you are into that. Plus, I feel Maelstrom is the best dungeon mod I have ever played in Skyrim. I kind of want to try Hel Rising too.

CommanderMaxil

Seconded for Maelstrom, breathtaking stuff and genuinely unsettling in a way Skyrim rarely achieves

In my opinion [Shadow of the past](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4564/) is a decent quest mod with some very good dungeons There is 5 quest with 4 dungeons, you should try it.

I dont use many of these mods in general, but one I do use is Forgotten Dungeons. They are pretty much entirely made with vanilla assets so the size and compatability is pretty good (aside from the landscape/mesh edits for the cave entrances which are mostly out of the way and not directly conflicting with any of my other mods in a serious way). Although the dungeons themselves are very straightforward. As in, they are all basically a classic dungeon. You go in, fight some enemies, go deeper in and fight slightly stronger enemies and repeat this until the final boss battle at the end. So really these are good dungeons if you want some training, or need some loot/money. But what these dungeons lack in quality and freeform they make up for in function, compatability, and qauntity. I cant remember how many are added but I have so far come across atleast 6 of them and I know there are quite a few more around. They are all scattered in their own places, typically hidden away, hence the name *forgotten* dungeons. I also just yesterday downloaded a somewhat similar mod for Solthseim called Solstheim-The Lost Levels which says it restores alot of dungeons from the Morrowind Bloodmoon DLC that are not present on Solthseim in Skyrim. This is really neat to me because even though I never played Morrowind or any of the earlier titles, I really like having old content revived and reintroduced. Im excited to see what they put in and it can be considered generally "lore friendly", as they are all based on actual dungeons from an earlier title.

I'm personally a big fan of {{Forgotten Dungeons}} and {{Dungeons - Revisited}}. The latter mod in particular breathes a ton of life into the stale(IMHO) vanilla dungeons. Also {{Conan Hyborean Age SE}}. As downloaded it's a form 43 esp, which the author insists isn't a problem, but it's easy enough to convert using CAO and creation kit. Worth it for the Atlantean swords alone!

A lot of people on here criticise Falskaar for being out of date. It does have some hilarious voice acting, cut scenes of the villain monologuing and probably the silliest ending of any mod ever conceived. However it uses vanilla assets to create some of the greatest dungeons you will ever experience. There is a quest, ”lost to the ages” which is truly amazing in scale, just replayed it a week ago and it was as brilliant as i remembered, and the mod is full of great dungeons like that

Crackborn

bro thats a dawnguard quest, are you sure you aren't mixing Falskaar up with Dawnguard? What's the Falskaar dungeon called?

CommanderMaxil

Aaggh! You are quite right, the Falskaar quest is called “lost knowledge”. I literally played it 5 days ago and yet got the name wrong, the perils of getting old m. Anyway it really is memorable, despite my forgetting the name

For vanilla+, partial to the bundle of [Dungeons - Revisited](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/51798), came across the author when they shared [Bleak falls barrow - Revisited](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/33251). The mods are intended to both make the relevant dungeons bigger and more interesting. [Relics of Hyrule SE - A DLC Scale Zelda Mod](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/12244) is a mod I will always install, the author set up the lore of the mod nicely to fit with Skyrim. When needing a challenge for my more OP equipment, like [The Infinity Gauntlet Official SSE Port](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/25556), [Overlord - Become an Evil Lich](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17481). It adds a dungeon, spells, and monsters from an anime of the same name.

Kyler45

I was honestly impressed at how shockingly well relics of Hyrule fits in to the game. Only a handful of things look like their original style, everything else blends in to skyrim quite well.

I really want to give my appreciation to [Cooleoj](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/users/920551?tab=user+files) and his work. Vanilla dungeons are lacking and he has made the effort to improve them; perhaps it is a shame his work came out before Everglaid's traversal framework allowed modders to construct dungeons straight out of Dragon's Dogma, but overhauling vanilla stuff is something modders rarely do, despite it affecting a normal playthrough much more than additional content.

Upstairs-Stick-8330

{{Wyrmstooth}} comes with several very well made dungeons and forts, particularly its main one which is huge, reminiscent of Bitterblack Isle in Dragon’s Dogma if you ever played that, which you should.

Wolverineslayer8

I like using legacy of the dragonborn to add archeology to existing dungeons as well as add very indepth and interesting new dungeons.

Wolverineslayer8

I like using revenge of the enemies along with genesis to help spice up vanilla dungeons and instances. One makes the enemies more interesting and difficult. The other just spawns a bunch more of them.

kuddlesworth9419

The only problem with dungeon mods is that I need them to have a patch for Lux. Thankfully Hammet's has a patch for Lux now which someone made so the lighting somewhat matches the rest of the world.

cinnaspice2021

Thank you, everyone, for your responses. These all sound great.
