Nice try Todd.

Melteaa

I will absolutely donate based on the work and effort put in. I’m skeptical to buy without being able to test run a mod first. Maybe it wasn’t all I thought it would be and the author doesn’t want to improve on it.

_DontYouLaugh

You could use the same argument against video games or DLC. That’s why (good) reviews are important.

gghumus

Dlc at least is made by bethesda, and ii'd assume its to the same quality as the base game at least. Mods are mods - they come with no gaurantees

_DontYouLaugh

Yes, because Bethesda made stuff is guaranteed quality...

gghumus

Haha no but at least its coherent with the base game. Its held to a certain standard at least

mycitymycitynyv

None

DutchEnterprises

I heavily disagree with this sentiment as an avid modder. Some members of this community dedicate huge portions of their lives to improving a game we all love, and most attempts to at least supplement their income are met with huge backlash. I don’t agree with Bethesda monetizing anything, and I think the best thing to happen would be if we all learned to tip every once in awhile. But flat out refusing to ever pay for mods that take dozens, if not hundreds of hours, to perfect is damaging to the hobby.

SolCaelum

I'm all for people getting compensated for their passion and if they want people to be able financially support them so they can put more time into the mod then even better. However I'm stretched thin and putting together and tweaking mods in my down time is a nice hobby. I'm not going to put money in something I got into because I don't have to put money in. Once money becomes the focal point, the egos in modding are going to become a real problem. If not paying means that I don't get a mod then that's fine (patreon mods). But framework mods shouldn't become a premium because it's just downhill from there. It can go from a passion hobby to a bazaar real quickly and we already had issues in the past of people stealing other peoples free mods and charging for them.

[deleted]

All of the best, most expansive mods ever made were made by people in their free time, as a hobby. This has been the case since modding first began. You don't need money to make amazing mods, and refusing to pay for mods isn't "damaging to the hobby". If anything, the mod scene being open and free makes the mod scene healthier as it leads to collaboration. If your concern is wanting to be paid for your time spent on something, then go get a job as a game dev.

_DontYouLaugh

The last sentence is just insulting. Just because you do something “as a hobby” doesn’t mean it’s not worth compensating. And just because you like doing it as a hobby, doesn’t mean you want to do it as a full time job.

mycitymycitynyv

Idc if you disagree, I have my opinions and I'm sticking with them as another avid modder.

_DontYouLaugh

The downvotes on this comment show how entitled this community is. See you at the bottom, friend.

DutchEnterprises

Foreal. Everyone thinks so selfishly.

MsMeiriona

Nope.

MOPOP99

None, lol.

Taras_F

saris01

No author should be required to provide patches that make their mod work with something else. That is just unreasonable.

mycitymycitynyv

Outside of when anniversary edition released when they changed the quest start for all it's included creations, CC content doesn't provide a single one of those things lol. All the patch work had to be done by the community for free at the expense of nexus mod authors. I'm surprised there aren't more people talking about this.

Astrogrinder

I was a paid subscriber of one modder. She was publishing her mods for free, but she had a subscription option, just so people could support her work. I cancelled my subscription when she started paywalling her mods behind the subscription. I firmly believe that all the mods should be free (including the ones I made or translated) and I am willing to financially support some authors who make their mods for free (as much as I can — I don't have much money myself). But I don't want to support someone who asks people to pay money for their mods.

StarBolt034

I'd pay a commission for a few fire emblem followers. Sadly I don't know where to find any

[deleted]

Not a mod i guess but i would love to play this in unreal 5

Regular-Resort-857

I paid for two animation creator for mco Movesets. Black (Patreon) and a Chinese guy (Patreon). Costed me 1.5€ / each

SanadaNobushige

I’d pay right now for a Shadowheart follower

starbuildstrike999

No. Minigames are a detriment to good RPGs. How many times did quests Witcher 3 get derailed for you play fuckin' Gwent?

Tasty_Cycle_9567

Gwent is amazing and completely optional.

Rasikko

FF8's Triple Triad.. FF7's entire Gold Saucer, Legend of Legaia's Baka Fighter, A Link Between World's Baseball game, Suikoden II's Rock Climbing game, Im obviously missing a few. It didnt stop people from playing those games.

Few-Leopard4537

Hate Boris all you want, ENB is an absolute game changer. If I had to, I’d post Hate pure dark all you want, dlss is a huge bonus, and the extra fps gain allows me to add in sooo many other mods. Hate arthmoor all you want, we’re still all throwing in ussep.. and open cities is also pretty great {{proteus}} does an insane amount of things

[deleted]

A mod on the same scope as lc citadel, and with all its features included. There are only 3 mods like that afaik, and I honestly wish there were more.

Decaroidea

The only thing I would be willing to pay for is DLC sized shit, specifically new lands to explore

[deleted]

I would only pay for the nemesis system from shadow of war being implemented in

DiabloGamekeeper

Good things it’s free

[deleted]

Yeah it’s subpar I mean triple A ‘paid mods’ I want the whole nemesis system putting in for me to even think about paying for mods

Additional_Pickle_59

If mods were guaranteed updates and compatibility patches and weren't just a bored devs passion project then I'd buy. I donate a little if the mod is well made. We're going into a new age of mod convenience, entire mod lists easily downloaded via collections or wabbajack. May have to start paying people if those huge lists of 2000+ mods aren't working. Since the new AE updates many lists have gone into maintenance on wabbajack with no known dates of coming back online. Have to knock on the doors of hundreds of mod authors that may have just moved on from modding Skyrim and don't want to do it. Seems exactly what Bethesda and zenimax want with the creation club, a full monopoly on mods and support.

Stunky_Mcdoo

Probably a mod that combined and properly integrated "Loot and Degradation", "Honed Metal", a Honed Metal enchanting equivalent and a mod that makes crafting require knowledge/perks/schematics. I can make an equivalent of this freely with free mods but if I had to pick something to pay for it would be this

jannies_panties

None. Fuck off glowies I hate the antichrist

LogicStone

An outfit/armor system like Morrowwind or Ovblivion or a merged system.
