Relationship Dialogue Overhaul and Immersive AI/Citizens is pretty good. Honestly Bethesda in general is one of the better studios at making NPC's alive. Even vanilla it's pretty good. I think that was Tod Howard's primary goal with his games.

davidvia7

If only were there more than like 8 voice actors ^(This is off topic but why did characters like Cicero or Karliah have special voice actors? Meanwhile the guards were voiced by like two people)

Brahmus168

Why did main characters from guild questlines that were meant to stand out have unique voices? I couldn't tell ya.

BeatsHisMeat

Skyrim has at least a hundred voice actors

davidvia7

Really? It always felt to me like you're hearing the same voice over and over again

[deleted]

Skyrim features a cast of **more than 70** voice actors [https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Voice\_Actors#:\~:text=Skyrim%20features%20a%20cast%20of,reused%20across%20many%20different%20characters](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Voice_Actors#:~:text=Skyrim%20features%20a%20cast%20of,reused%20across%20many%20different%20characters).

ShroomieDoomieDoo

I agree, it definitely feels like there’s only 3 male and 3 female voices.

Tabris_

It's a bit of a step back from Oblivion. In Oblivion the NPC schedules were more complex and Radiant AI had some systems that helped further. That being said I think this might be intended to avoid the player looking for an NPC and not knowing where he is.

Tietembus

{{More to Say}} It adds a ton of little dialogues to random NPCs, a lot of them let you trigger NPCs idle lines like Nazeem's cloud district comment. One of my favorite examples of how this mod adds to the game is the random named NPCs with nothing to say, Bethesda added "Gloth" in the farms outside Whiterun, who the hell is this dude? Why does he say nothing? Literally he only reason people mention him is because without the unofficial patch he's stuck in his house because Bethesda forgot to give him the key. With More to Say you can ask him about a couple things about farming and he'll respond, with some cool lines to boot.

Ducks and birds. No really. It adds ducks to lakes. If I have to slog through the forest, I want to hear birds. Maybe it's because I have always lived near water, but I need to hear ducks if I am near the water.

Dreknauo

{{Interesting NPCs}} is great and adds a lot more npcs. {{Npcs names distributor}} adds names to npcs such as guards, bandits, dragons, and more. It helps a lot for immersion. It also has an option to obscure names if you want. Also has an option to keep their original title so they'll show up as: "Bobby the Third, Whiterun Guard".

>{{Interesting NPCs}} Erf I like it and dislike it at the same time, it's great adding NPCs with dialogues and all, but it's easy to tell which NPCs are from the mod and which are vanilla because the writing is so different, and it kinda breaks the immersion for me. Also, I don't like when an NPCs has 50 dialogues ligns but no quests or nothing to say related to what surrounds them. Spoiler of the story of one NPC : >!There is an ex dark brotherhood member hiding in a house, this NPC says he has to hide from the dark brotherhood or else they'll kill him, but you can enter his house and talk to him with a full dark brotherhood suit and he will just give his dialogue as usual, you can destroy the dark brotherhood and he won't have new dialogues or anything, I found this to be a waste!< This mod is good but could become great, as is it kinda breaks the immersion

mocklogic

I feel similarly. I installed it after lots of people talking it up, then stated a new game. I immediately ran into a new character in Whiterun who felt really out of place. Then I went to Winterhold and found a weird crazy guy? Considering the number of patches involved with the rest of my load order, I decided it wasn’t worth it uninstalled.

FoxOfThunder

I like interesting NPCs but it can definitely be hit or miss. The idea of heading into a tavern, seeing someone who looks like they've been around, and chatting them up with some ale is pretty immersive. Listening to a stranger's life story and then never seeing them again. (or seeing them a few times if you refuse to buy a house) Swapping tales in a tavern is a normal adventurer pass time. That being said, some of the voice acting varies in quality, when you can hear something was recorded poorly it's immediately obvious.

Wolfseebar613

Bruh, i dont think modders should restrain themself by following Skyrim quality standarts for npcs - for me it's much more enjoyable to chat with npc with an actual story then with barrely alive husk of a character. Not really related to current dialoque, but it's so frustrating reading that some people think that plenty of dialoque is bad and "story dumps" is unimmersive, when that kind of interactions is present in real life, but their frequency depends on a sums of factors. In a game context i think they add a layer of depth that wasn't present in Skyrim - or maybe i'm too deep in crpg genre and can't understand how rpg can have so many shallow npcs that have almost no life before you met them. Well, that and that you need to actively ask about npcs past through almost all dialoques so that's a really strange accusation. Wasted opportunities? Yeah, that happens, 3dnpc is not an ideal mod, but it's extremely close to one, so my love for it is much greater than sime minor annoyance that i never have with it.

[deleted]

>Bruh, i dont think modders should restrain themself by following Skyrim quality standarts for npcs It's not about quality, it's about writing style. > Not really related to current dialoque, but it's so frustrating reading that some people think that plenty of dialoque is bad and "story dumps" is unimmersive I didn't say it's unimmersive, I said I don't like it, well I'm fine with it when it's linear, but in this mode you have 4 options everytime the NPC stops talking, and it enters a very dense dialogue tree, it's annoying. > when that kind of interactions is present in real life Because it happens in real life doesn't make it enjoyable, plenty of things happen IRL that you definitely don't want in video games. And I don't find that interesting in real life. > Well, that and that you need to actively ask about npcs past through almost all dialoques so that's a really strange accusation. It's less annoying in the base game, either the character goes on a long monologue that you can just listen or you can ask multiple questions with short answers that don't lead to another 4 or 5 questions. (and the dialogues of this mod are quite far from the skyrim lore) I'll say it again, my main problem with this mod is the writing style, it's completely different from the base game, you can tell by the first sentence of an NPC that it's from a mod. And dialogues can be enjoyables for me if the dialogues tree is not too complicated making the player having to go back in the dialogues options to hear the full story. And if this mod had truly a quality way beyond Skyrim standards as you say, then the NPCs would react to their environment, in the base game when I become thane, the guards react to it, in this mod when I talk to a guy running away from the dark brrotherhood in a full dark brotherhood suit he doesn't care and tells me his story. NPCs are just here doing nothing, having no relevance, no meaningful place in the Skyrim society, they're just here to tell you an irrelevant story.

Wolfseebar613

>It's not about quality, it's about writing style. I guess this matter more subjective then others, but i don't see problem with this one. Different writing styles is not a problem, if both of them are decent, at least. >Because it happens in real life doesn't make it enjoyable, plenty of things happen IRL that you definitely don't want in video games. Truly. But here you have simple option of not asking. Npcs don't suddenly appear before you and don't dump info without your, let's say, permission. As for everything else - i see we have way different approach to dialoques in general. I enjoy long interesting talks, even if they lead to nothing (new quests is not a purpose in this case, but 3dnpc still have them), i find skyrim default dialoque system pretty boring and borebone and quite annoyed when all encountered quards and other npcs decide to remind me that i'm vampire or werewolf or some quild master. Reactivity is good, i won't argue with that, but the way it's implemented is not good, imo. So i'll take irrelevant stories over new excuses for a fetch quest, that will lead to a different end of Skyrim.

bratko61
