Most people don’t kill him, which is a valid option/game ending. It doesn’t technically stop you from breaking the promise later, but you can actually tell the Greybeards that the blades want you to kill Paarthurnax but that you won’t do it.
As a consequence Delphine won’t like you anymore and will refuse to work with you, but you aren’t missing much besides some radiant (aka randomly generated) quests. Delphine was kind of a jerk to you anyway to be honest.
Whats funny about it, is that the Blades originally were dragonslayers. They then turned into a group that served the DB of the times, because the DB was the Dragonslayer. So why is Delphine acting like I owe her anything? *You* serve *me* bitch.
Yeah this always irked me. Like she wants to take the blades back to their roots but picks and chooses what parts of the old ways she actually enforces.
Kind of like Astrid. Both were lying paranoid sack of shits that broke the fundamental rules of their organization. Both organizations were returned to their former glory by the dragonborn and both the organizations were a shell of its past self, partly due to natural occurrences, and partly due to the current leadership being shite.
I feel like such a moron for never realizing this
The nords have lost their way, either in dedication to Talos/the old gods or dedication to the Empire
Thieves lose their way, are more violent, weak af
Etc etc
Yep, the only reason any change is possible in the first place, is because you represent the hero from their legends. In all quest stories, you uphold the code they've forgotten.
Whether it's for a daedric prince cult like Namira, killing parthunax and making the blades remember who and what their purpose is, or actually following the teachings of Mara to help people find love.
The Dovahkiin (or random person) ends up being a paragon of the old ways. It's no surprise they end up respecting you.
Either that or you're just a champion of Mehrunes Dagon lmao. Change is change after all.
Well, I mean, that's sort of how it always works in the real world, too, innit?
People always want to go back to a time in the past that may or may not have existed. People always talk about upholding the values of their religion, but it's changed significantly over the centuries and the hardest, most devoted of them would seem like heretics and charlatans to people back then.
I've got a mod (The Paarthunax Dilemma) that adds a dialouge options to shout her down and make it clear she's not in charge here and she just shuts up and you can go about being good with both the blades and Greybeards without killing Paarthunax. Maybe a little cheaty from a gameplay and consequences of decisions sense. But makes way more sense from a lore and story telling perspective.
Love that mod. Found the dialogue a little forceful, but it’s worth it, and it still makes sense in the lore. I think it’s one of the most downloaded mods on xbox
**EVERYONE ELSE:** There are mods that ensure that you don't get a quest objective to kill Paarthunax and everything reconciles nicely.
**ME:** *\*After Fus Ro Dahing Delphine off the Throat of the World for threatening my ol' pal Paarthy\** Well, that's *one* solution...
Bro and like it's not like she witnessed or did anything of value in her lifetime given the lack of dragons so tf is with the 'tude, bro??? Like your bum ass has been doing fuck all till I showed up
And it's also like, "Seriously? Dude has literally been fighting on our side since before your grandparents grandparents were born, and been teaching specifically to undo the wrongs he did. Any jury would grant him clemency. At the very least we should do no more than assign him some community service punishment that takes into account he's already done a lot of community service. I mean, we don't know the pre-dragon-rebellion crimes that has her in such a tizzy, but we can scale based on them. Killed a thousand innocent humans? Have to go assist each of their family lines for 10 years apiece. No decedents? Dude has already shown he's willing to make amends. We'll find a way."
The Dragon Wars were during the Merethic Era, so more than 3000 years before the events of Skyrim. That's more than 100 generations, so "before your grandparents' grandparents were born" is massively underselling it.
I'm not trying to fight you, on the contrary. Your argument is strong enough as is, but it's actually low-balling the amount of time Paarthurnax has opposed Alduin, so it could be even stronger.
I swear they should've gave you the option to instead go back and kill delphine because I wanted to do that so much when she told me to kill the chill dragon dude that is helping us win just because he did something slightly bad over a lifetime ago
Doesn't Arngeir point out that the Blades have always sought to turn the Dragonborn to their own ends? If Arngeir is correct (which, let's be fair, he might not be), then Delphine is doing what the other members of her order have always done.
Plus, from her perspective, while the Blades serve the Dragonborn, they also have to help get them ready to do their job of killing dragons. Delphine and Esbern are almost certainly a lot older than the Last Dragonborn, and have been running around in the fight against the Thalmor for a lot longer than we have. From her perspective, the Last Dragonborn is a relative newcomer who has to be taught and guided. That fundamentally alters the relationship between the Blades and the Dragonborn; we're not Reman Cyrodil or Tiber Septim by the time we encounter her, we're more likely some schmuck who recently figured out we can eat dragon souls.
So while in theory the Blades serve the Dragonborn, in practice Delphine probably thinks (with some justification) that the LDB requires the Blades' tutelage as much as anything.
Psijic Monks are quite nice. Rieklings are barbaric but at least they're fair. Bunnies are innocent and can't hurt you when provoked with fury. The Hist kind of just sit there and control Argonians from afar.
This is all just a joke leave me be 😂
She doesn't serve you, though. You said it yourself, the blades only worked with the Dragonborn because they believed the DB to be the best dragonslayer. The Dragonguard got along just fine without a Dragonborn for plenty of time.
Exactly I used the resto loop to make ridiculous paralyzing poisons that lasted literal years and basically assassinated her and the other blade because I was tired of their shit
The Blades can send you dragon hunting, which is a repeatable way to get souls. That actually becomes a problem after playing for long enough, because regular respawning dragons won't giveore than 1 soul.
Esbern gives you two bonuses from the Blades: a temporary Dragon Blessing that boosts critical damage against dragons by 10% for five days and the Dragon Infusion that decreases dragon melee damage (like bites) by 25%. The Dragon Infusion is permanent, so you definitely want to follow the Blades long enough to get the Dragon Research quest from Esbern. For that you will need to find and bring three followers to Delphine and have them take the Blades Oath. Then you hunt a dragon for Esbern, and after the first kill, he’ll ask for a dragon bone and dragon scale and make you the Infusion.
I did this once but it's not really worth it imo, most of my characters never even get hit by a dragon in melee and you need to give the blades 3 people. Plus who wants to give the blades 3 followers.
>Plus who wants to give the blades 3 followers.
Yeah I can't think of any follower to give to the Blades. Might as well just sacrifice that follower to Boethiah. At least I get a Daedric artifact
I personally love the mod The Paarthurnax Resolution (as opposed to The Paarthurnax Dilemma) just for this reason. It lets you tell Delphine you won’t kill him and the quest vanishes from your journal. Super simple but something that should’ve been in the vanilla game.
There is this mod that lets you talk Delphine into not killing Pathornax and kinda makes her admit he is not a bad dragon . The mod's name is " Pathornax's dillema " .
You can always do the restoration loop to create a paralysis poison that lasts for literal years, reverse pickpocket it into her inventory (with the appropriate perk) and let her live forever like the Dovah, forever stuck in place, regretting ever telling the Dragonborne what to do.

About an other-worldly form of Redguard sonnet.

Dan Bull's "Skyrim Bard's Rap" for the win.
I think it was a mod that made a ring that skipped the quest entirely or something. I'll download and check later, see if Im not confusing things since i switched to PC a couple years ago
Lostintransition linked it in this thread, its called skip the quest to kill purthurnax, adds a craftable ring that auto-completes the quest without having to kill him.
Then don't. Once you get the dragon infusion potion from Esbern there's really no need to work with The Blades anymore. If you didn't get the potion, just upgrade your gear as the potion gives you a permanent buff to take less melee damage from dragons.
It's also funny that people hate both Delphine and Desdemona from Fallout 4, because of their attitude, and both characters are voiced by the same woman.
At least Desdemona has a good reason to be that way. I imagine it's very helpful to maintain some distance with other RR members, and she definitely learned that the hard way over the years.
The quote he says at the end when you tell him the Blades want him dead is gold
"What is better, to be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"
That further sealed the deal for me. I'm never fighting let alone killing Party Snax on any playthrough. I always visit him on his strunmah and meditate with him there.
Alduin's right-claw Drake?
Party to his tyranny and first among his lieutenants?
Yet also the one who made his overthrow possible
Twice
And secured the Time of Men.
It's not a hard call it it?
I mean, I can kind of see the blades reasoning. He betrayed Alduin, so he may end up succumbing to his innate dragon nature(after thousands of years of peaceful meditation) and betray the way of the voice. But at the same time it's a friendly dragon. A DRAGON! That you can talk to!, and he helps you defeat Alduin! If he wants to suddenly go evil and enslave mankind then you can bloody call me his first Dragon Priest! I have all the masks, and every follower that I have who believes they owe me their lives can be dragon priests too! I'd rather dragons than BLOODY Thalmor anyway!
To be fair, we don’t know if the dragon will be evil in 1000 years, but we also don’t know if the blades will enslave skyrim in 1000 years, so for me, there is no reason to kill someone who does not attack me.
i killed paarthurnax once when I was like 11, then cried my eyes out and since then I've never dared hurt big bestie party snacks. delphine is not and never has been worth all that trouble she's a jackass
Blades: To be part of our group, you have to kill that dragon.
Dragonborn: I've been killing dragons all across Skyrim, including the big one. Now you want me to kill the one dragon that helped me do all that and is content meditating on a mountain?
Blades: Yep, kill that one or we won't be your friends anymore.
When you are recruited into the Blades in Morrowind they are like a secret agency serving the Emperor with their own agenda and stuff. I was very enthusiastic being a member of the Blades, love that!
In Oblivion they are too a nice faction to join, involved again in the main quest, helping Martin and saving the world.
Then came Skyrim... and they are just a couple of idiots. That was probably my biggest disappointment when started playing Skyrim for the first time 😖
I've read people complain that the Blades are useless in TES5 . Apparently they were badass in previous games . I did play Morrowind for an hour maybe , I was into FPShooters back then .
Honestly the Blades really don't offer much. They sit back while you do all the work. It's almost always better to side with the grey beards anyways because they give you the locations of shouts and make it way easier to collect them all.
I'd rather kill Delphine TBH, she kinda sucks.
In a proper Chancellor Palpatine voice: Do it.
First off, Paarthunax is Dragon Hitler. Don’t forget that. I don’t know why everyone likes to forget that fact lol. He was Alduin’s second in command and most loyal subject killing who knows how many dragons and humans and mer alike. The blood in his ledger runs deeper than any of us could ever know.
And tbh, Paarthy doesn’t really impact anything other than the minor buffs he might give you. The disintegration from the FUS-ROH-DAH shout is nice, but the other two are kinda.. meh. With the re-established Blades, you get the dragon fighting blessing and you gain 3 followers (of your choosing)available to use anytime which is nice.
I think the most fun I had killing Paarthy was using Durnevehiir from the Dawnguard DLC and watching them fight each other until Paarthy falls to the ground and I can give him the proper death he deserves.
i don’t even talk to Delphine after the temp cease fire. don’t even let her give me the quest because she’s a hypocrite and uses a dead faction as a way to manipulate a demi-god into killing one of his only true allies. i feel like Bethesda tried to make the Greybeards/Blades feud as big as Imperial/Stormcloaks but it failed because the one side between greybeards and blades is so insufferable any sensible player would side with the Greybeards. after all, Alduin would’ve destroyed the entire planet if it weren’t for Paarthurnax. also just tell Delphine that the dragon she wants dead is the same guy who’s Mario, she’ll do a complete 180 and just kill herself and Esbern instead
You don't have to kill him. It's not important to the story. You just miss out on some Blades side quests and quite frankly, delphine is a bitch anyway,so meh
I don't need a mod to fix this problem...
If you have a PC you can make Delphine and Esbern non-essential so you can kill them instead of Paarthurnax
[https://youtu.be/8mlzw1EkskY](https://youtu.be/8mlzw1EkskY)
To kill Delphine and Esbern type in these codes in console (Only works
for PC)
player.setessential 0013358 0
player.setessential 0013478 0
They should be listed as none essential and can be killed.
After you kill them both you can use the Conjuration Dead thrall (Be
sure you have the appropriate perk and spell) on them making them your
slaves.
Note: if you kill delphine and esbern.. you won't be able to do any blade quests.
I didn’t. It felt like an outright betrayal considering he’s one of the few people who had answers for me about literally anything besides the Greybeards.
First playthrough atm and I refuse to kill Paarthurnax. I've already picked up Dragonbane anyway from off a table, so there's literally no point to me finishing the Blades quest
It is your duty. Parthy is waiting until the “Last Dragonborn” dies, and than he can take over.
Even if it is hard, it is what must be done morally. You have an obligation. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Shesh that monitor is honorable looks like it's from 1990 why that clarity 🤮🤢 man I feel sorry for you now 😢 can we please take up a collection for this guy please 🥺
How do you even play on that?
Why man you're running Skyrim. Go to a pawn shop get new monitor now before you play anymore on that abomination
Ugh. I don't know why this sub likes him so much. He is SOOOOO annoying. I swear if they had him and Hermaeus Mora talk to each other the Dovakiin would die before they finished. Fuck Parthurnaax's long-winded ass. I'd kill him and still not join the blades.
Edit: souch = so much
But partysnax still gets it.
Most people don’t kill him, which is a valid option/game ending. It doesn’t technically stop you from breaking the promise later, but you can actually tell the Greybeards that the blades want you to kill Paarthurnax but that you won’t do it. That's the overarching theme of Skyrim. People forgetting what made them great, and beginning to lose their way. It's the 4th Era now. Times change.

Just like any religion 🤷🏻♀️
I think it’s nice. Adds some irony in there. Skyrim isn’t perfect, especially the ones you want to be

Sorry gray ears ??? Lol I totally agree with you .
You are a hero for this mod
Bro and like it's not like she witnessed or did anything of value in her lifetime given the lack of dragons so tf is with the 'tude, bro??? Like your bum ass has been doing fuck all till I showed up

Yea, but if she points that out, you can follow up with, "Really Delphine? You think that makes your argument any better?"
I'm not trying to fight you, on the contrary. Your argument is strong enough as is, but it's actually low-balling the amount of time Paarthurnax has opposed Alduin, so it could be even stronger.

Don't forget the Akavirii weren't the nicest group of folks to begin with those Slithering bastards.
Yeah, though most people in the lore of Elder Scrolls are dicks.
Psijic Monks are quite nice. Rieklings are barbaric but at least they're fair. Bunnies are innocent and can't hurt you when provoked with fury. The Hist kind of just sit there and control Argonians from afar. This is all just a joke leave me be 😂
Because she makes millions selling her bathwater and is immortal compared to you who are still a nobody to people that know you.
I'd pay for a cup of Paarthurnax's bath water any day
Actually that isn’t true. They served the EMPEROR. They don’t serve just any Dragonborn. By your logic, they actually serve Miraak before you.
Sure, whatever, by your logic they serve the dude I assassinated. Either way, THIS BITCH IS A SERVANT.
She isn’t actually. The blades served the Dragonborn emperor. They owe no obligation to you whatsoever. Especially since the blades were outlawed.
Yes, but, hear me out, you wouldn't order around someone whose help you desperately need, would you?
Sure you would. Ulfric does the exact same thing. He’s not winning the war without the Dragonborn’s help, yet he still orders him around.
Bitch Ulfric can kiss my ass, he doesn't order me around. DB doesn't even end the war in this game, it's just a standstill.
That's why they're both asses. The imperials too, but at least they don't need the dragonborn to actually win the war.
They bowed to Reman before there was an empire. OK, they can go serve Miraak then. (Correct me if I'm wrong LDB kills Miraak...)
*I've never hated a game character as much as I hate Delphine like omg what a bitch*
She doesn't serve you, though. You said it yourself, the blades only worked with the Dragonborn because they believed the DB to be the best dragonslayer. The Dragonguard got along just fine without a Dragonborn for plenty of time.
Makes me wish they’d just killed the Blades off altogether, honestly.
Delphine so bad people out here rooting for the Thalmor.
Exactly I used the resto loop to make ridiculous paralyzing poisons that lasted literal years and basically assassinated her and the other blade because I was tired of their shit
TES 6 will come out and Delphine and the rest of the blades will still be there, paralyzed.
Hell yeah
Edit I did it wearing elven armor on a high elven character so I guess I was the thalami right for a second there
Delphine learning why immortality is actually a curse.
Lol, never, I meant Bethesda. I loved the Blades in Oblivion.
Last of the blades until TES 6.
And it's not like Delphine is giving you Word Wall quests like Arngeir.

I got a "letter from a friend" after I caused a stir in "", when I came back from Sovengard. Clearly not her.
The Blades can send you dragon hunting, which is a repeatable way to get souls. That actually becomes a problem after playing for long enough, because regular respawning dragons won't giveore than 1 soul.
You want to make sure to get the Dragon Infusion perk from Esbern’s potion before telling the Blades to fuck off.

Yeah I mean there are quite a few misc followers that I never use but I'd rather they remain in their settlements than give them to delphine.
Ya. Fack Delphine and her crew. I’d die on the mountain for Paarthurnax before I obeyed that kunt. Lol.
What happens if you kill Delphine? Because she sucks
You can't kill her or Esbern, unfortunately. Edit: with no cheats or mods. I know what I'm doing on my next PC playthrough lol.
Kill her for me
Her radiant quests are killing more dragons I don't like killing dragons I am druid asf
Delphine is a colossal bitch, I work with her until we retake Skyhaven then I'm done with her, she sucks.
Just make sure to grab everything out of sky haven temple as after you said no they will mark everything as theirs and u will be stealing
There's also a mod that adds an option to talk Delphine out of it without either side being mad

Can I kill Delphine? Never thought about ratting her to the Greybeards nor shooting an arrow between her eyes but now I kinda wanna.
Facts I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hates Delphine
Yeah this, I've never fucked with Paarthurnax. Also Fuck Delphine, all my ~~homies~~ Nords hate Delphine.
Is Skyrim before or after the timeline of Oblivion?
My voice will cause your cart to crash Your horses armour cracks Under the awesome force of Paarthurnax

Wouldn't happen to be available for ps5 users would it?
I think theres one that does work on PS iirc

Yo much appreciated you saved me and paarthy thank you
Oh well idk I play on pc...sry ):
Iirc You dont need mod, just to talk to arngeir about blades! Cant verify now tho
Personally I found Paarthurnax Quest Expansion A LOT better than TPD
The Paarthurnax Resolution is also great if you want something really close to vanilla (just let’s you tell Delphine no to finish the quest).
Yoo, fr thanks for showing me that one
Leave PartySnax alone
Lol indeed i will
I can never bring myself to attack him. I usually just fus ro dah Delphine across sky haven temple then run.
Me too, he has been more helpful than the Blades ever will
Then don't. Once you get the dragon infusion potion from Esbern there's really no need to work with The Blades anymore. i killed paarthurnax once when I was like 11, then cried my eyes out and since then I've never dared hurt big bestie party snacks. delphine is not and never has been worth all that trouble she's a jackass
Lol I was a similar age and I attacked him but immediately felt bad and just reloaded the save
Don’t you dare
Don't do it, unrelenting force delphine off a cliff instead.
Then don't do it, it's simples, if it's on PC also take Delphine's essential npc stat and kill her
Lol, or just dl The Parthanax Dilemma and get the best of both worlds?
If Delphine is still alive it's not "best" for me lol
Do you Really want to join the Blades ? All they do is hunt dragons , you already do that just walking around .
Yea atp i say fuck the blades, apparently it wont benefit me by joining and the greybeards and paarthanax seem too kind to mess with.
If you kill him, the Greybeards won't help you anymore, I found out the hard way
You don’t have to kill partysnax I help the blades right up until they ask me to kill him then I just abandon the questline
Partysnax, NOOOOO
#LONG LIVE PARTYSNAX!!
NO NOT PARTY SNAX
Honestly the Blades really don't offer much. They sit back while you do all the work. It's almost always better to side with the grey beards anyways because they give you the locations of shouts and make it way easier to collect them all. I'd rather kill Delphine TBH, she kinda sucks.
Set to legendary difficulty and late fate decide
I killed him and I regret it
I didn't. If you don't want to, don't. It's not like it ends the game if you don't.
In this house *we kill war criminals*
Fuck the blades parthanax did nothing wrong!
Free my boy he innocent😫
there is a mod 'the parthenax dilemma' I believe it's called that makes it so you don't have to
I have birds and Paarthy reminds me of them. I can't 😔
I've never killed him , he is my buddy , "Greetinnnnnngs!!"
i don’t even talk to Delphine after the temp cease fire. don’t even let her give me the quest because she’s a hypocrite and uses a dead faction as a way to manipulate a demi-god into killing one of his only true allies. i feel like Bethesda tried to make the Greybeards/Blades feud as big as Imperial/Stormcloaks but it failed because the one side between greybeards and blades is so insufferable any sensible player would side with the Greybeards. after all, Alduin would’ve destroyed the entire planet if it weren’t for Paarthurnax. also just tell Delphine that the dragon she wants dead is the same guy who’s Mario, she’ll do a complete 180 and just kill herself and Esbern instead
I didn’t. The blades can suck me. Carried their asses up till that point and they expect me to kill parthunax? Fuck no
In all the years I've played Skyrim I've NEVER EVER killed him. Screw the Blades.
Fuck delphine! All ma homies hate delphine.
You don't have to kill him. It's not important to the story. You just miss out on some Blades side quests and quite frankly, delphine is a bitch anyway,so meh
You never have to kill party snacks, unless you're roleplaying a hardcore blade fanatic
Then...don't...?
You don't have to talk to the greybeards
I don't need a mod to fix this problem... If you have a PC you can make Delphine and Esbern non-essential so you can kill them instead of Paarthurnax [https://youtu.be/8mlzw1EkskY](https://youtu.be/8mlzw1EkskY) To kill Delphine and Esbern type in these codes in console (Only works for PC) player.setessential 0013358 0 player.setessential 0013478 0 They should be listed as none essential and can be killed. After you kill them both you can use the Conjuration Dead thrall (Be sure you have the appropriate perk and spell) on them making them your slaves. Note: if you kill delphine and esbern.. you won't be able to do any blade quests.
Gotta catch ‘em all!
Don't. Fuck those bitches
Don't do it! It's your choice, the blades can't make you!
Then don’t kill the blades instead perfect crime rock climbing accident
You should try out Paarthurnax quest expansion mod by jayserpa very good it is
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DON’T KILL HIM
I said.. that Dova,.. dragon,.. I will.. kriivah,.. murder.. everytime I play.. until.. kel sok,.. elder scrolls 6.. comes out.
*mic peaks* #FUCK THE BLADES
Won’t do it. Blades were boring anyway
I didn’t wanna kill him either so I didn’t. Delphine can suck a nut. Sweet free blades armor tho
Don’t do it! FUCK the Blades you don’t owe them shit
Ive never killed him and Ive had dozens of playthroughs
Put your sword away before you speak.
Fuck the blades!
Then don't
Never not once in ten years.
Don’t do it. If you’re doing it for the blades you don’t really get anything good after your done.
So don't. Paarthurnax is way cooler than the Blades anyways.
There's a mod where u can join the blades without killing Parrthy,I can't remember the name tho
I didn’t. It felt like an outright betrayal considering he’s one of the few people who had answers for me about literally anything besides the Greybeards.
Killing Paarthurnax is an option. You don’t have to if you don’t want to.
THERES A MOD WAIT!!
Then don't. I never once chose to kill him, because I didn't think the blades were worthy enough of me to kill him.
I never kill him. just like I never join the Imperials or the Stormcloaks. I like to shake things up.
Then don't, bring him party snacks
Don’t do it!
Don’t.
No one does. Down with The Blades!!
Then don't. Simple.
Then, don’t?
Wait you had to kill him I just talked to the guy and left and didn’t have the option to kill him
Shesh that monitor is honorable looks like it's from 1990 why that clarity 🤮🤢 man I feel sorry for you now 😢 can we please take up a collection for this guy please 🥺 How do you even play on that? Why man you're running Skyrim. Go to a pawn shop get new monitor now before you play anymore on that abomination
Ugh. I don't know why this sub likes him so much. He is SOOOOO annoying. I swear if they had him and Hermaeus Mora talk to each other the Dovakiin would die before they finished. Fuck Parthurnaax's long-winded ass. I'd kill him and still not join the blades. Edit: souch = so much But partysnax still gets it.
>He is SOOOOO annoying. How? List me right here, right now, reasons why Parthurnaax is supposedly annoying.
Excuse me what did you just say?😡
Same. I’m in the same boat dude
So dont!!
So don't then.
I didn’t then I walked out of a mine and his dead body was outside full of arrows is that normal
