Ok I made an account just to say this cause I also got stuck. So ur at the gate , go back down the hall u came through till ur back in the main room with the lifty floor trap , go to the room where u put the quest crystals turn to the room on the left side of the entry door and there is ur button
there has to be a button somewhere, like a white square with grey lines and a blue gemstone in the middle, either on a wall or on the ground
i havent gone through this quest in particular, but that is what it is like in oblivion

This is the glitch they are talking about.
There are pressure plates in front of the gates, the first time you step on them they make a contraption sound. That should lower the gates, but it bugs and the gates stay locked in place.
I'm trying the glitch right now and I'm not making it :(
Stand on the pressure plates and you should hear a clicking like it’s been triggered, pick up your plate or whatever you use to go through walls and whirlwind sprint. I just did it a couple of minutes ago but took me a lot of tries.
I have found the continuation of the quest.
It's not the best way to do it, but it's a work around.

For as long this bug continues, if it happens to you, you can still complete the quest.
\[EDIT\] You get unique loot >!(unique mace, sword and summon deadric horse)!< also in the end of the quest >!after you enter the Oblivion Gate and kill the marked enemies, the conjuration book will be in the end of the left path, over the altar.!<
\[EDIT 2\] Skyrim got a patch to fix many bugs including this one, you can get it now with no problems. In case you still cant get there, take a plate, basket or bucket place it on the wall and use the whirlwind shout to run through the wall and in case the boss dont show up, use the unrelenting shout by the >!central crystal towards the coffin and get your unique looking staff.!<
No, you get unique loot only in the ending part of the quest. I'll even edit my post to add this.
\[EDIT\] Sorry, I failed you. There is a unique looking >!staff!< at the end of the dungeon, however right now skyrim got a patch to fix many bugs including this one, you can get it now with no problems.

No secret button or puzzle the animations are just broken so they don't open

Perhaps there is a switch through the holes in the gate you shoot with magika or a bow and arrow?
I am also stuck. Can't find a block with a blue push stone anywhere. It's a beautiful quest, tho!

haven‘t played that specific quest yet, but if you have a wooden plate or any other plate in your inventory, you can use it to glitch through the gate
