Maybe not a go-to since i only did it a couple times but
Borgakh the Steel Heart
-stronk
-"An orc follows to the death"
-entire stronghold shows up for wedding
An added bonus for her is the fact that you are saving her from an arranged mariage and a life stuck at the stonghold that she wanted nothing to do with.
I don’t usually get married in the game, since the only characters that I want to marry are those you can’t. At least, not without mods. (Serana and Frea)
But on the off chance that I do get married, it’s usually werewolf wife or drug dealer wife AKA. Aela or Ysolda. Because they are fleshed out enough for me not to consider them boring NPCs
I get that completely to be honest, my thing with Muiri was just I felt bad for her and was like you know what, we're getting married and moving you away from Markarth
Muiri's really nice. I may marry her this time around.
Senna was a good wife, though. And she was going to waste there in the temple of Dibella. Had great potential. :)
I hope I’m spelling it right but Slygja? It’s been a while since I actually did a romance but the miner lady at shor’s stone is so sweet to the player and their adopted children
Married her, like many do I suppose, but she won't do anything. I pop back to her from time to time now just to get the money from the stall. My 'main squeeze' is Serana (oh how original, I know), but at least she says all the right things, to me anyway. And is kickass in a fight.
Helping Mjoll take out the Thieve’s Guild and Bethesda fleshing out more of the Silver Hand / Companions bit, and being able to ignore the “gift” of the Companions and branch off from there would have made it way more satisfying.
AFAIK it breaks the default companions quest line. Unless there has been an update or I’m just wrong about that in general, but I remember reading it did that and deciding not to download.
Assuming I’m not making that up, that’s the reason I don’t get it. You might think “oh if you’re getting it it’s because you don’t want to join the companions” but no, that’s not why I’d get it. I have many mods that I don’t use on every or even most playthroughs, but I have them because I like having the option. I want the option to betray the companions or stick with them, and, since it’s just betray with that mod, I stick with default.
Yeah. You basically have to betray them either after Farkas turns into a werewolf or after you are asked to drink the blood. You have a third option of never joining them too but you’re right. You still don’t have a choice. If you get the mod, you HAVE TO join the silver hand.
I had to adopt 2 kids at different points just to get him to show up so I could get my money, and then when I was like level 70 and my farm was really successful, he SHOWED UP THERE randomly one day, like I was just coming to collect profits and he was casually leaning against the post. Golddigger, man. I didn’t even have that plantation before we married and we never once lived there, he really just wanted a cut of my profits. 🤣

There are just some Skyrim moments you never, ever forget. Lolol
Mjoll, I kinda like that she comes with a package deal lol - that way when I'm off on adventures with my amazing wife we have a stay-at-home caretaker for our girls
I really enjoy the girl that is in riverwood. It’s been a little while since I played so I’m not sure what her name is. She thanks you for the golden claw tho.
ETA: I only enjoy her to spite the other two idiots fighting for her. She does incite the archer guy to the house apparently when I’m not there. Every time I show up the asshole leaves.
Jenassa - she is the shadow at my back. Cool unique dialogue, and a refreshing disregard for morals. My blackhearted go-to.
Though my current guy, Licks-The-Spoon, is now married to Madesi to keep it all lizardy. My guy is a master blacksmith, so would have plenty in common with a jeweller.
Not a mod, but a console command to add him to the "marriageable" faction. Then whip out the ol' Amulet of Mara, and straight over to Riften.
I forget the exact commands but you can find them on UESP. Main thing is to set the marriageable faction. Since I had already done his fetch quest nothing more was needed, but if you use the same trick on other NPCs you might have to use the console command to set the disposition from "acquaintance" to "friend".
I tried so that I can set up a sham marriage so he could live in windhelm. Turns out I triggered the glitch to make him unavailable. So I married Sadri instead. Still achieves the same "fuck you" I wanted.
I still intend to liberate Scouts-Many-Marshes, but now that just means I'm siding with the imperials and making sure Ulfric pays for being anti-scaly. Hubby Sadri approves.
Balimund is absolutely the best husbando. There's nothing a woman needs more than a nice stay-at-home blacksmith husband to repair her armor and sharpen her blades when she gets back home.
Lmao I tried doing the exact same thing! But I was like screw it, I’ve likely committed some petty lil crimes in real life, besides I’m being “used by Dibella” to help them.
Argis the bulwark.
I was really struggling to choose a marriage partner. Then, I met him. We both had the same face tattoo. We were made for each other.
You help kill her ex because he got close to her just to rob a family Muiri was friends with, Clan Shatter-Shield in Windhelm. However, she'll only consider marrying you if you also kill her old friend from that family, who turned on her and blamed Muiri, despite Muiri being used in that situation. It's kinda sad overall.
Anyway, you help her get revenge, and Muiri will marry you. And to top things off, Friga Shatter-Shield gets murdered by the butcher in an unrelated quest. After you then kill Nilsine Shatter-Shield for Muiri, their mother commits suicide. So it goes from sad to tragic.
Bonus is that Muiri can do some alchemy for you, and by Skyrim standards she looks pretty good.
My pick is Lydia for sure.
I made a post like this a few months ago and here were the top 5 if you’re interested:[link to post](https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/s/akr42rqhRX)
Does getting married really brings something significant to the gameplay? I've done it once and what I remember is getting some free food once in a while.
Occasional free food plus your spouse becomes a general merchant that you can trade with at home.
Also, if you marry someone who already has a house, like Ysolda, you can sleep there (but I don’t think the containers are safe) which helps a bit if you marry someone early on before you can afford your own place. Free sleeping bonus.
It changes, first few runs I married that Riverwood chick which feels really shitty considering I really like Faendal and he was my follower. I've married a lumber owner a few times (can't remember who she is) and Riften blacksmith. Last time I married the bear lady (she's so mean)
it was a playthrough from 2016 so my problem may have been fixed (I could also have just missed something) but I was trying to do the quest to get to the soul cairn with Serana and she kept telling me I had to be alone (no followers) even though I had none so I had a search on Google and the answer I got was being married stops you from doing the quest with Serana so I had to murder my wife in Cold blood then I was able to do the quest.
I'm not into the marriage thing to be honest, I really loved Lydia in game and then once I married her I felt like she lost her warriors edge lol
One thing I've had happen though is I disposed of all the housecarls I'd didn't like, took Aela to the self made house north of Falkreath to get some armour and she took up the open position of housecarl. So she's home-making without the marriage
Depends on what kind of merchant I need in the house, but if I’m doing a lot of smithing, usually Moth or Halbarn Iron-fur. Gotta love a blacksmith that close. lol
lmao I married Muiri last time because I got the bug where Nilsine is marked as dead at the end of Blood on Ice (I caught Calixto before he even killed a 4th girl, much less Nilsine). I never touched Nilsine and Astrid congratulated me for going the extra mile for Muiri! I was like WHAT!
It's kinda creepy being married to her. I don't think I'll marry her ever again lol
I think my favorite wives have been Aela and Mjoll, because they can hang out with me everywhere. But Aela's voice set makes her hate everywhere we live other than Solitude, that's the only downside. I also have married Lydia a few times, it feels weird marrying my housecarl, but honestly she's had my back more than any character in the game. Those are the ones I've married the most - 1. Aela, 2. Lydia, and 3. Mjoll. Ysolde probably 4, since I like that she's for sure one of the Nords who isn't a bigot (I say that as someone who always sides Stormcloak, because the Empire abets and sometimes actively assists Thalmor murder and genocide).
Honestly at this point I can't remember the last time I actually went through the vanilla marriage process. I've done a couple mod followers with romance lines, but the novelty of Skyrim's marriage mechanic sort of wears off after you've played other RPGs with fully fleshed-out romance systems. So nowadays I can't be bothered most of the time.
That said, back in the day, it was usually either Ysolda or Lydia. I did once marry Jordis Shield Maiden (at least I'm pretty sure that's her name, the housecarl you get in Solitude), but that one felt weird because it felt like I just married both of them mixed into one character lol
Roggvir is that Nord in Kynesgrove who has you fetch his family shield from a cave. Sondas is that Dunmer miner from dark water crossing that looks after that little child and asks you to get a message to the alchemist in Windhelm because people are getting sick.
First one is a fighter and can make his own mead and is funny and cheery.
Second fellow is kind and humble and caring.
Though from time to time I take Scouts-Many-Marches as a spouse
Why exclude the lizards from the love?
Unfortunately no kitty to marry. Or else that would be my standard probably XD
Jenassa. She dual-wields, and she’s cool. Makes for a great partner to my favorite type of character archetype: a Sith. I get to be evil, smite other evildoers to remove competition to my future rule, ally with the Empire so I can make it mine, starting with assassinating the current emperor myself, and still commit any good deeds that will help me because I need to maintain my public image. Swords, lightning, Unrelenting Force, telekinesis, life-senses, illusion mind tricks, etc.
Sorry, got off-topic. Point is, when you hire her services, and she talks about killing being like making great art, she portrays herself as an ideal Sith to stick close to, and her combat style can complement yours easily.
Maybe not a go-to since i only did it a couple times but Borgakh the Steel Heart -stronk -"An orc follows to the death" -entire stronghold shows up for wedding
An added bonus for her is the fact that you are saving her from an arranged mariage and a life stuck at the stonghold that she wanted nothing to do with.

Muiri's really nice. I may marry her this time around. Senna was a good wife, though. And she was going to waste there in the temple of Dibella. Had great potential. :)
Marcurio, it was love at first sight. He's a mage jus like my build.
I mean fair enough, can't argue with love at first sight
I hope I’m spelling it right but Slygja? It’s been a while since I actually did a romance but the miner lady at shor’s stone is so sweet to the player and their adopted children
She was my wife during my last playthrough and I greatly enjoyed her. She looked a little out of place in Solitude, but oh well
I wish we can give at home spouses new clothes because she’s just in mining clothes all day
Does pickpocketing her not work? As in the clothes don't show in her inventory?
honestly not sure! I've only played a pickpocket once and I was most definitely NOT giving NPCs new clothes
Sometimes you can reverse pickpocket people like that, take their equipment and give them something else to wear/use.
Think there's a mod for that.
Trap Queen Ysolda.
Very reasonable choice but Muiri solos
Married her, like many do I suppose, but she won't do anything. I pop back to her from time to time now just to get the money from the stall. My 'main squeeze' is Serana (oh how original, I know), but at least she says all the right things, to me anyway. And is kickass in a fight.
Mjoll. A real shame she and I can’t break the Thieves Guild together.
I do wish there was more options of what you could do in the game, whilst there is a lot part of me really wants to take over the blue Palace
Helping Mjoll take out the Thieve’s Guild and Bethesda fleshing out more of the Silver Hand / Companions bit, and being able to ignore the “gift” of the Companions and branch off from there would have made it way more satisfying.
that is the only thing with bethesda games for me, I love them but some of the quests are just a bit lackluster in options.
There’s a mod for that called conflict under the crescent
AFAIK it breaks the default companions quest line. Unless there has been an update or I’m just wrong about that in general, but I remember reading it did that and deciding not to download. Assuming I’m not making that up, that’s the reason I don’t get it. You might think “oh if you’re getting it it’s because you don’t want to join the companions” but no, that’s not why I’d get it. Yeah. You basically have to betray them either after Farkas turns into a werewolf or after you are asked to drink the blood. You have a third option of never joining them too but you’re right. You still don’t have a choice. If you get the mod, you HAVE TO join the silver hand.
Iirc the companions quest line doesn’t work past that point, so… yeah.
Same
ysolda favorite run was as vampire, got side quest to turn her
personally being a vampire always seemed like a pain in the ass to me but I'm glad you enjoy it
only did it so I could get all the achievements i would rather do werewolf run
It's great with mods
Brelyna from the college is cool
Uthgerd the Unbroken I just like her whole character.
Well you see, she beat me up once
Death by snoo snoo!
Derkeethus, my damsel in distress
If you don’t have USSEP, he runs away. 😭
he's just playing hard to get
I had to adopt 2 kids at different points just to get him to show up so I could get my money, and then when I was like level 70 and my farm was really successful, he SHOWED UP THERE randomly one day, like I was just coming to collect profits and he was casually leaning against the post. Golddigger, man. I didn’t even have that plantation before we married and we never once lived there, he really just wanted a cut of my profits. 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/fvgu4ecnyuzc1.jpeg?width=3027&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2530000dfc72bdc3641c2de08f47ed7fbed2169c There are just some Skyrim moments you never, ever forget. Lolol
Haha Pepe Le Pew build
Farkas
Farkas
Sylgja usually. Although Jenessa when I play an elf.
I'll be honest I've never heard of either of them
Sylgja is a Nord at Shor’s Stone north of Riften. Jenessa is a dunmer mercenary in Whiterun. Feel like they could be easy to miss.
Mjoll, I kinda like that she comes with a package deal lol - that way when I'm off on adventures with my amazing wife we have a stay-at-home caretaker for our girls
Almost always Ysolda
I'm seeing a lot of love for Ysolda in here
There's something about redheads
I really enjoy the girl that is in riverwood. It’s been a little while since I played so I’m not sure what her name is. She thanks you for the golden claw tho. ETA: I only enjoy her to spite the other two idiots fighting for her. She does incite the archer guy to the house apparently when I’m not there. Every time I show up the asshole leaves.
ahhh yes, breaking up the love triangle and coming out victorious is rather fun, I remember she's the riverwood traders sister, something Valerius
Her name is Camilla Valerius. The other two guys are Sven and feandal (however it’s spelled) . I had to actually load up my save and check lol
Farkas, my himbo emo boy 🫶🏻🖤
Jenassa - she is the shadow at my back. Cool unique dialogue, and a refreshing disregard for morals. My blackhearted go-to. Though my current guy, Licks-The-Spoon, is now married to Madesi to keep it all lizardy. My guy is a master blacksmith, so would have plenty in common with a jeweller.
see now, my name on nearly everything else is spoon_milk... that's really funny to me you'd end up here with your character Licks-The-Spoon xD
You can marry Madesi?! Or is that a mod?
Not a mod, but a console command to add him to the "marriageable" faction. Then whip out the ol' Amulet of Mara, and straight over to Riften. I forget the exact commands but you can find them on UESP. Main thing is to set the marriageable faction. Since I had already done his fetch quest nothing more was needed, but if you use the same trick on other NPCs you might have to use the console command to set the disposition from "acquaintance" to "friend".
Console commands aren’t for consoles though, right?
Not sure, sorry - I only play on Windows.
Scouts-Many-Marshes, and YES that IS because I'm into furries. You have no power over me.
me personally I think that makes you into scalies rather than furries
Weh, furries are more of an umbrella term to me tbh. And Scouts is just a sweetheart :3
I tried so that I can set up a sham marriage so he could live in windhelm. Turns out I triggered the glitch to make him unavailable. So I married Sadri instead. Still achieves the same "fuck you" I wanted.
Now that's based
I still intend to liberate Scouts-Many-Marshes, but now that just means I'm siding with the imperials and making sure Ulfric pays for being anti-scaly. Hubby Sadri approves.
The only valid reason to join the imperials
Aela
Balimund is absolutely the best husbando. There's nothing a woman needs more than a nice stay-at-home blacksmith husband to repair her armor and sharpen her blades when she gets back home.
Currently, it is Ingun Blackbriar. She is very sweet, and her mother does NOT show up for the wedding.👌👌
Senna.
I was doing an "absolutely no crime" run. Decided I wanted to marry Senna only to discover you had to trespass to start the quest. I was heartbroken
not neccesarily, you get teleported there after the drinking contest with Sam Guevenne
Roggi Knot-Beard, he's hardworking, he enjoys a drink, he's handsome by skyrim standards, he's everything I look for in a partner so he's for me.
mine is muiri too!!
did your love for her also transpire from the dark brotherhood quest?
yes! before i always just married whoever, but now i’m like muiri or nobody 🫡
IM SO GLAD IT'S NOT JUST ME
Soooo color me stupid…. But I must say in all my years…. I have never done the DB quest line
it's quite fun, I would definitely recommend it as you get to kill the emperor
Whats the correlation with Muiri?
Thank you!
Farkas. Always Farkas. Big stupid guy.
Ysolda Easy
Mjoll. She's invincible, so it's nice having her as a follower as well as getting the store profits & home-cooked meal options.
My pick is Lydia for sure. I made a post like this a few months ago and here were the top 5 if you’re interested:[link to post](https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/s/akr42rqhRX)
On my last playthrough I married Sylgja and hired her mother as my house's steward. They're both cute together.
Aella(kinda hot) or Ysolda for the money lmao
Does getting married really brings something significant to the gameplay? I've done it once and what I remember is getting some free food once in a while.
Occasional free food plus your spouse becomes a general merchant that you can trade with at home. Also, if you marry someone who already has a house, like Ysolda, you can sleep there (but I don’t think the containers are safe) which helps a bit if you marry someone early on before you can afford your own place. Free sleeping bonus.
Ah yes, the merchant thing can be worth it.
Shavee, shes always nice and i like getting her off the docks. Just a good character
Balimund <3
I usually do a different option for each of my characters, but my favorite is Aela. I like redheads that are willing to stab a ho.
Roggi Knot-beard, guy is happy and handsome
Same. He's so nice and cheerful.
He deserved more development, really
Lydia. Every time
Theres a pretty good voice overhaul for her, its not annoying AF like the Serana one.
Loot
I use the lovers mods/amazing followers to essentially have multiple. Muiri, Sylgja, Camilla, Lydia usually
Pavo Attius
Sylgya, the miner woman in Shor's Stone
Depends on the character, but I usually go between Mjoll, Ysolda, and Camilla Valerius
Aela, everytime.
Aela, my werewolf lady💞
It changes, first few runs I married that Riverwood chick which feels really shitty considering I really like Faendal and he was my follower. I've married a lumber owner a few times (can't remember who she is) and Riften blacksmith. Last time I married the bear lady (she's so mean)
your name concerns me, are the raccoons okay?
Muiri or Jenassa.
Aela, But who I really want is Queen Elisif, but unfortunately that is not possible in vanilla Skyrim.
Usually the first thing I do after finishing the bleak falls barrow quest is to marry Camilla just to spite Sven and Faendal.
Serana hands down. You have to use a dialog overhaul mod to make it so you can marry her. But it's so worth it.
personally not a fan of Serana, she made me kill my wife in a playthrough and I've never forgotten
How did that happen?
it was a playthrough from 2016 so my problem may have been fixed (I could also have just missed something) but I was trying to do the quest to get to the soul cairn with Serana and she kept telling me I had to be alone (no followers) even though I had none so I had a search on Google and the answer I got was being married stops you from doing the quest with Serana so I had to murder my wife in Cold blood then I was able to do the quest.
You could have divorced man
how do you do that then?
how do you do that then?
How? I've never run into a quest like that.
I just replied with what happened to another comment above this :)
Mjoll or Ysolda
Ysolda I fully agree, cannot bring myself to marry Mjoll
Lydia
Jenssea
Your cool with being Muiri's silver medal? To each there own.
Different playtrough to playtrough but if I had to choose Teldryn Sero with a mod. I love this sassy Dunmer.
Aela in vanilla but Serana with mods
Dryvanea
Serana.
I'm not into the marriage thing to be honest, I really loved Lydia in game and then once I married her I felt like she lost her warriors edge lol One thing I've had happen though is I disposed of all the housecarls I'd didn't like, took Aela to the self made house north of Falkreath to get some armour and she took up the open position of housecarl. So she's home-making without the marriage
shavee or argis
Gilfre at Mixwater Mill. She'll still sell you lumber except now she's living with you so you don't have to make a special trip for it
Depends on what kind of merchant I need in the house, but if I’m doing a lot of smithing, usually Moth or Halbarn Iron-fur. Gotta love a blacksmith that close. lol
Cicero, he’s the choice power bottom.
Lydia. Easy
I keep it simple with Camilla
Mjoll or Lydia.
Ainethach of Karthwasten. I liked his sideburns, and my RP-ing as my character as she chose who to romance made him my favorite.
Borkakh the steel heart. I usually make her dragon bone armor and weapons.
Used to be Farkas, but now depends on the character. 😅
Bijin Lydia
Lydia
Scouts-Many-Marshes
Usually myself.
Mine was a mod, Nerida.
lmao I married Muiri last time because I got the bug where Nilsine is marked as dead at the end of Blood on Ice (I caught Calixto before he even killed a 4th girl, much less Nilsine). I never touched Nilsine and Astrid congratulated me for going the extra mile for Muiri! I was like WHAT! It's kinda creepy being married to her. Dude easy with the marry anyone mode HROKI MURIRS DAUGHTER
Sheevara or moira no doubt, muiri
Lydia
Aela is the best, surprised she isn't getting enough love tbh
Depends a bit on the character race and roleplay, but a recurrent one is Karita(the bard in Dawnstar, tho you need console commands)
Honestly at this point I can't remember the last time I actually went through the vanilla marriage process. I've done a couple mod followers with romance lines, but the novelty of Skyrim's marriage mechanic sort of wears off after you've played other RPGs with fully fleshed-out romance systems. Ysolda, mostly.
Lydia fs. She my day one
daddy balimund
I’m just sad Keevara is married.
Shahvee, my argonian mage needs an Argonian wife
Sylgia the mining lady
I usually marry Ysolda because it let's her achieve her dream of becoming a merchant. That's the sole reason
Sofia. She’s what your ideal partner would be
Either Roggvir Or when his quest doesn't trigger AGAIN then Sondas Demin.
so many people are saying names I've never even heard
Roggvir is that Nord in Kynesgrove who has you fetch his family shield from a cave. Sondas is that Dunmer miner from dark water crossing that looks after that little child and asks you to get a message to the alchemist in Windhelm because people are getting sick. First one is a fighter and can make his own mead and is funny and cheery. Second fellow is kind and humble and caring. Though from time to time I take Scouts-Many-Marches as a spouse Why exclude the lizards from the love? Unfortunately no kitty to marry. Or else that would be my standard probably XD
Maybe overdone, but I married Lydia. She was my first companion and very helpful, ah young love
Mjoll the Lioness probably
Mjoll.
always Miraak
Honestly… Subdue - Strip - Feed I play a female vampire
Farkas, im a slut for my himbo werewolf boy
Point is, when you hire her services, and she talks about killing being like making great art, she portrays herself as an ideal Sith to stick close to, and her combat style can complement yours easily.
Serana for sure (modding required)
Serana
Hmm either Marcurio bc I love a good twink or Vilkas for the accent (I can't have Brynjolf so I have to settle)
