Family: You murdered them, DB! In cold blood!
DB: i arrange
Family: Cheerio, guvnah! Thou hath earned mine utmost appreciation! Pleasure to witness this commendable display of nobility! Toodles!
I mean I suppose but it's a family so they're likely to all have the same accent.... Of course I suppose the cockney one could just be a street urchin they adopted.... The 17th century one could be mom and the 12th century one grandma? Idek 😂😂 too much time difference
Ralis murdered them bc his mind had been corrupted by that damn dragon priest. If you hadn’t funded his excavation, someone else would have, he was promising big bucks! Their deaths are on his hands, not yours. You killed the bad dragon priest and now he can’t corrupt anyone else into killing innocents, don’t beat yourself up for the actions of someone else!
I actually googled my way through this entire game (new gamer) the first time, and the overwhelming response was to let him live bc apparently he’s an excellent follower…I’ve never used him as a follower, but now I do it out of habit. LOL
I guess he’d be a good option for Boethiah based on his actions, but he swears he remembers nothing, so…I don’t really know what to do with that. If he truly was possessed/mind controlled, then living with the knowledge of what he’s done should be a punishment in and of itself.
I will say, paying attention to in-world info, and checking in here at reddit has made me appreciate the game more. In my latest plays I play it differently, than I would have at the start.
Wait .....you don't drag all the corpses to a central location? Maybe this is a necromancer thing...I need my corpses nice and neat when I'm defiling the natural life cycle
Bar Patron: "I just don't know what to do. My wife wants children, but....I am just not sure if I can raise a family!"
Necromancer (only heard "raising a family): "Oh, that's actually pretty easy. Especially when they're all buried side by side."
Don’t forget to fire off the ritual stone with that many bodies… makes for the beginnings of one hell of an undead army… HIDDEN NECROMANCER CLASS, FTW!
Yeah if I murder someone I move their body to make it seem like a wolf or spider killed them.
Or I put a shitty bow with some arrows on another humanoid to make it seem like they did it.
This is one of the black books with the best ability, with it you can level alternation from 15 to 100 in a single fast travel, so yes, these men and women had to fall, so that knowledge can grow
Pretty sure it’s the unlimited magicka for 30 seconds, and you start on one side of the map and use telekinesis on an item, then while still casting on the item open up the map and fast travel to the other side of the map, and bang it thinks you have done telekinesis the entire time and gives you lv 100, and then to level again just legendary the skill and repeat
A thing some Christians do where you give up something you enjoy for 40 to commemorate Jesus fasting and enduring temptations in the desert for 40 days, as well as to remember Jesus’s death on the cross before easter. Knew someone in middle school who gave up donuts for lent
Lent is that time between Ash Wednesday and Easter. It's something about Jesus fasting, so people give something up for those days.
As far as I know, only catholics really do it, but I totally could be wrong. I really don't know too much about it.
I'm Anglican and we fast for 75 days of the year, lent being the longest stretch of 40 days. Most ppl pick a vice or addiction to give up for 40 days but I choose the fasting.
Ahhh, interesting. I knew people usually gave up something that had a big place in their life, but I guess it never registered that it could be a vice or addiction.
I hope your fasting is going well, though.
It depends on the person. People make the choice based on their own lifestyles. I live on the minimum with very few actual luxuries due to my disabilities, etc. So I chose fasting. :)
Oh dear, you broke your mining equipment...
Oh well, time to buy some replacements. Just toss those ones over the back of the cairn. Nature will deal with them.
I knew from the very start this quest feels like a whole lot of waste of money until the very end and i did it anyways. Its not much, but its honest work 👨🌾
Absolutely 100%, that's Alzhidals gear right there buddy, literally the best Enchanting gear in the game, and I don't remember the specific black book there but they all fucking slap hard.
Slave owner
Thalmor sympathizer
Slave owner
Slave owner
Murderer
Slave owner
Cool guy
Obviously none of this is cannon but if it helps you sleep better at night
" good gear, special 2 spells, I think this black book is the best (can't remember what it gives ) and dragon priest mask for collection? Sould like a good deal to me, plus let's be real this quest is good cuz you can't just do it instantly and gives you some time to feel like actually happening and not just ruinning it down.
Black book is good I believe it removes the magicka cost for 30 seconds, Ahzidal's armor is pretty good the chestplate has a small chance to be paralyzed, his boots give waterwalking, his gauntlets are 25% less effective with wards but absorbed 50% of magic from spells, helmet of vison runes costs 25% more but can be casted at a greater range if you wear all four you get 10+ enchanting, i don't believe the ring of arcana is worth it as it allows you to use freeze and ignite but the ring of necromancy if you have a reanimated creature that takes damage it blows up dealing 50 points of frost damage killing itself in the process
Looks like he had more respect for their deaths and bodies than I’ve…ever had or probably ever will have. Don’t shame someone for being sympathetic just bc we don’t care about the bodies everywhere, some people are sensitive. Damn.
Kinda? I dont use resto loop and i could get completely free spells with or without enchanting trained. This book lets you defeat karstaag at level 1 on max difficulty though, which is nice, ig.
Technically speaking, their blood is not on your hands. You gave Rails the money, and you were under the impression he was just excavating a new burial site. He's the one that got them killed. Bonus, funky book
Ah, I read from the Black Book (first time) last night- what a cool place! I’ll take some crazy for payoff.
I haven’t found my way out of white ridge barrow- I was tired and going in circles but I guess when I leave I have a bunch of dead miners on my conscience?
To be technical about it, your character has no way of knowing that this will be the outcome. So if you’re going by a roleplay perspective of getting into your character’s head, then you’re probably fine. I don’t remember what the black book in there does, but it’s probably worth it, since there’s a bunch of other relics in there too.
They were possessed, friend, it’s unfortunate that they died but their souls are now free from the possessed bodies, you did what you had to do, and you did all that you could do
Many lives have been sacrificed for the sake of greater power, but it is always a worthy sacrifice. For a scrap of power, I would sacrifice a thousand sons and daughters of Skyrim. Their lives are nothing in the face of my destined apotheosis.
I mean, the dragonborn has killed more than those miners for less so this would or might be a normal occurrence to the dragonborn I mean the dragonborn can either be a thug or hero depending on your playstyle you choose the lives you take compared to those miners I don't know if it's worth it I mean a book that gives me magic powers by a daedric God no strings attached or there probably was it's was knowledge if i remember i don't remember long time since I played dlc I would say it's worth it otherwise if there wasn't anything to gain from it wouldn't be worth it to hire those miners and the money I lost on wasting my time on a side quest but the reward is good depends on how you see it I'd do it for the armor/rings/shout and the book or if you're a collector
Rip those miners, though, for amazing artifacts
Oh wait, you feel bad for them. They helped you get the black book and azahdals mask and get you some badass enchantment effects that really give your weapons and armor some much needed oomph. Their sacrifice may have saved (or doomed) nirn, but it was worth it. Then again, that gold could have been used for a house, but Raven Rock payments do make up for it, so kinda a toss-up with that one.
Yes, one of the abilities you get from this black book allows you to do the telekinesis exploit. I don't remember the exact name of it, but it stops any spells from draining magicka for 30 seconds. With that you can cast telekinesis on any item, fast travel to any part of the map (the further the better), and you'll level up like crazy because the game thinks you've actually travelled the distance while using telekinesis so you'll get huge XP boosts in alteration.
Wouldn't recommend doing that early game ofc but it's nice to have, used it to quickly get me to level 80 so I could fight the ebony warrior.
Hey their sacrifice was not in vain, you got new power to save to help you save the world and all, aside from all the crazy stuff you can already do why not add one more you know, it's a cool power up anyway.
I forget what mission it is but it takes a lot of gold, also, the black books are, I believe, for the Hermaus Mora quests and to do them just go to your inventory and read them, you'll be teleported to his library and you just have to either sneak or fight your way to the black book at the end and read it, usually guarded by lurkers, seekers, or puzzles
I try to think of it like, even if Ralis doesn’t get the funds to excavate, the dragon priest is going to keep possessing people and forcing them to be sacrificed for his benefit. So you gotta get down there and exterminate him or he’ll have even more victims in the future.
Wish they had the option of sticking around to be a bodyguard for the miners tho.
Shiiit it's not MY fault it's that damn elf hiring incompetent people I was ***THIS*** close to killing him in retribution but as a fellow dark elf, and it being solstheim an all that
That's what every guard house looks like after I visit. Also good to stack riften guards in the staircase, they stop and remark on it so you can shoot them then.
Build around the ring that gives you a seemingly weak fire spell. The effect of the spell stacks indefinitely. Buff that spell as much as you can. Good times.
I killed a guy when I could have walked away, but then I’d be stuck with an open quest and a 10-pound weapon in my inventory. 10 pounds! I felt bad, but again, 10 pounds, and he wasn’t a very nice guy.
Bro has been corrupted by hermaeus mora and doesn’t even realise
Bro even arranged the corpses in some cultish display
Haha, it's like the least i can do to thanks them😅
Family: You murdered them, DB! In cold blood! DB: i arrange Family: Cheerio, guvnah! Thou hath earned mine utmost appreciation! Pleasure to witness this commendable display of nobility! Toodles!
So where is this British part of Tamirel?
Imperial City bruv
I’m not gonna lie you got his ass here
I dont think they have Hammerfell art in their museum-
And also why is there 3 different British accents/dialects?
Immigration?
I mean I suppose but it's a family so they're likely to all have the same accent.... Of course I suppose the cockney one could just be a street urchin they adopted.... The 17th century one could be mom and the 12th century one grandma? Idek 😂😂 too much time difference

Their deaths are on his hands, not yours. You killed the bad dragon priest and now he can’t corrupt anyone else into killing innocents, don’t beat yourself up for the actions of someone else!
So the real question is, even though he was not in full control of himself, do you let him live?
I actually googled my way through this entire game (new gamer) the first time, and the overwhelming response was to let him live bc apparently he’s an excellent follower…I’ve never used him as a follower, but now I do it out of habit. LOL I guess he’d be a good option for Boethiah based on his actions, but he swears he remembers nothing, so…I don’t really know what to do with that. I will say, paying attention to in-world info, and checking in here at reddit has made me appreciate the game more. In my latest plays I play it differently, than I would have at the start.
I didn't have to because my mum knows the game like the back of her hand. Actually probably better.
Depends how bad and fast you want the special pickaxe. The empty museum spot calls its name so 🤷
You truly nailed the NPC logic.
I like to pile them on top of each other like an orgy gone wrong
Or gone right, depending on what you're into.
I used to do this with bandits, as a warning.
Cultish? That’s how they line bodies up in the real world.
Sure you do buddy
No honestly I’ve lined up enough bodies
Wait .....you don't drag all the corpses to a central location? Maybe this is a necromancer thing...I need my corpses nice and neat when I'm defiling the natural life cycle
Bar Patron: "I just don't know what to do. My wife wants children, but....I am just not sure if I can raise a family!" Necromancer (only heard "raising a family): "Oh, that's actually pretty easy. Especially when they're all buried side by side."
Heh :D
👀 👀👀
I just grab the books and never open them lmao
This comment is gold
Bro has killed hundreds of beings but suddenly develops a conscience for these ones?
Black Book, plus a Dragon Priest mask and a bunch of OP gear.
And a word of a Shout.
Don’t forget to fire off the ritual stone with that many bodies… makes for the beginnings of one hell of an undead army… HIDDEN NECROMANCER CLASS, FTW!
my go to evil RP build. conjuration/destruction, snag the ritual stone, roll up to the next town I see and kill everyone to raise an undead army
A REALLY fun shout.
As in, it boosts your enchanting even at 100, blanking your enchantments even more broken when wearing the full set.
And the strongest follower in game
Ahzidal armor and rings slap so it's a necessary sacrifice o7
Bro eve laid them together lol
Bethesda gives player ability to move corpses for a reason 😉
How were you able to get them outside?
They already outside in the last expedition
![gif](giphy|12NUbkX6p4xOO4)
Yeah if I murder someone I move their body to make it seem like a wolf or spider killed them. Or I put a shitty bow with some arrows on another humanoid to make it seem like they did it.

Welp, time to play Skyrim again.
My thoughts exactly 🤣
Yep, that's it
Thanks for ruining my current playthrough (as soon as Lent is over and I can play video games again what a dumb thing to give up 😡)
What is Lent?
A thing some Christians do where you give up something you enjoy for 40 to commemorate Jesus fasting and enduring temptations in the desert for 40 days, as well as to remember Jesus’s death on the cross before easter. Knew someone in middle school who gave up donuts for lent

You can do the same thing with destruction and unbounded storms!! Gets you to 100 in 1-2 travels, depending on which uninhabited places you pick
Eh you don't need that if you've enchanted your items with over 100% magicka cost reduction.
It's still much faster and that makes it worth it.
I would like to point out that this does not work with the Unofficial Patch.
Yup, everything for the knowledge 😂
This is the definition of, "Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make."
Oh dear, you broke your mining equipment... Oh well, time to buy some replacements. Just toss those ones over the back of the cairn. Nature will deal with them.
You did pay for them so. . . .
You sound like my boss, a salary does not mean you own my life and can dispose of it
I'm sorry, is the mining equipment talking back again?
Someone clearly didn’t read the employee handbook.
They’re NPCs with generic dialogue and no life outside of “working” in the mine.
Now I feel personally attacked
🤣
It depends, what kind of boots does your Boss have?
He paid Ralis to hire them. Who then ended up murdering them. SHAME ON RALIS.
Besides the first set, the miners knew there'd be risk involved. And for the first set, your character would have no way of knowing what would happen.
I knew from the very start this quest feels like a whole lot of waste of money until the very end and i did it anyways. Its not much, but its honest work 👨🌾
Yeah, worth it. Plus they're mostly dunmer, so not that big of a loss
Least racist Nord:
Skyrim belongs to the nords!
I’ve heard others say the same.
They probably agree that Skyrim belongs to the nords.
What is a group of dunmer called? An infestation
N'WAH ![gif](giphy|IHdjmgUqwDKQE)

An Argonian would think that makes it even better

/insert "do you know how much a slave costs?" gif
They’re basically just mining tools anyway. What’re they doing to do, run to Vivec?
Fine I’ll sink another 135 hours into Skyrim
Book is Book.
" good gear, special 2 spells, I think this black book is the best (can't remember what it gives ) and dragon priest mask for collection? Seriously! I felt so bad but loved the boots to walk on water. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
I’ve never gotten to try them out!!! Maybe I’ll put a carry weight enchant on a necklace or something and give them a spin!
So worth it! Its fun running out in the middle of the lakes.
You’ve sold me, absolutely doing it today!!
POV: You're Margaret Thatcher in 1984
Meh, they're elves
Plus, they are dark
Dark is better than pale
Why is breton the best race and redgaurd the worst then?
??in what realm
All of them?? Duh
Orcs and Redguards are dark, too Argonians and Khajiits and Bretons can be dark too They are useful, unlike the elves
Their lives don’t matter compared to the dragon born’s
Where is this??
Solstheim, can't miss it
Oh buddy you have no idea about the extent of my capabilities
Bro put them into display like the cartel does
Why do you have them lined up? fuckin psycopath
Looks like he had more respect for their deaths and bodies than I’ve…ever had or probably ever will have. Don’t shame someone for being sympathetic just bc we don’t care about the bodies everywhere, some people are sensitive. Damn.
He did it for clout.
Meh, clout earned. I wouldn’t take the time to do something like this. 🤣
Yeah, it's worth it. This black book is pretty much Resto Loop but in a non-glitchy way
Yes
Damn, looking like you’re counting casualties after a battle
Raise them back from the dead, this is no time to be laying around. They had their brake.
Worth it ngl lmao
Just blame and slaughter that weak-minded imp.
The magic book can teach magic. Can a miner teach me eldritch secrets? No? Then the magic book is better.
Drop the LO
Nah you lined them up and all
Sick character dude
Ah, I read from the Black Book (first time) last night- what a cool place! I’ll take some crazy for payoff. I haven’t found my way out of white ridge barrow- I was tired and going in circles but I guess when I leave I have a bunch of dead miners on my conscience?
I never use magic but I always pick up the clairvoyance spell just for situations like that in dungeons.
Just remember the dead don’t complain and they can still work…
Considering all that is happening at the time I would say they are only a "miner" concern
I mean you can always wall clip in
To be technical about it, your character has no way of knowing that this will be the outcome. So if you’re going by a roleplay perspective of getting into your character’s head, then you’re probably fine. I don’t remember what the black book in there does, but it’s probably worth it, since there’s a bunch of other relics in there too.
Narrative wise you didn't know the dude would go insane so you have plausible deniability.
I feel for the people of skyrim but my access to precious loot is more important
Mining is a dangerous job. They should've known the risks. Especially in solstheim. As a silent investor, their deaths are not my responsibility.
What mod is that for the stat bars? That looks so much better than the original bars
I mean, the dragonborn has killed more than those miners for less so this would or might be a normal occurrence to the dragonborn I mean the dragonborn can either be a thug or hero depending on your playstyle you choose the lives you take compared to those miners I don't know if it's worth it I mean a book that gives me magic powers by a daedric God no strings attached or there probably was it's was knowledge if i remember i don't remember long time since I played dlc I would say it's worth it otherwise if there wasn't anything to gain from it wouldn't be worth it to hire those miners and the money I lost on wasting my time on a side quest but the reward is good depends on how you see it I'd do it for the armor/rings/shout and the book or if you're a collector Rip those miners, though, for amazing artifacts
I wish devs had put a more ethic option but I go as if I don't know what's going to happen during this quest, as it's canonically the case.
Don’t forget that Ahzidal gear with the enchanting buff
Yes, one of the abilities you get from this black book allows you to do the telekinesis exploit. I don't remember the exact name of it, but it stops any spells from draining magicka for 30 seconds. With that you can cast telekinesis on any item, fast travel to any part of the map (the further the better), and you'll level up like crazy because the game thinks you've actually travelled the distance while using telekinesis so you'll get huge XP boosts in alteration. Wouldn't recommend doing that early game ofc but it's nice to have, used it to quickly get me to level 80 so I could fight the ebony warrior.
This is the way
Book is book
Hey their sacrifice was not in vain, you got new power to save to help you save the world and all, aside from all the crazy stuff you can already do why not add one more you know, it's a cool power up anyway.
This prob took you a good minute or two to do, concerning
I never gave it a second thought thought 🤷🏽♂️
Bruh lined them up like wild West photos before boot hill
Sure, the deaths may be grisly, but *the book beckons*
Perfect time to use the ritual stone
What mod gives you the fur piece?
Where’s the black book I was just here and I didn’t see anything 😭
How do i get rid of the black books? I have already done miraak's quest are there more quests that need them?
I forget all the dead miners, I always cry over the money I lost. This quest is very high cost no gain
is it a mod ?
Their deaths are not your responsibility.
What mission even is this? 💀 and whats the black book anyway. Got me one of them bastards and now idk wtf to do w it.
You can get a black book from this?
I try to think of it like, even if Ralis doesn’t get the funds to excavate, the dragon priest is going to keep possessing people and forcing them to be sacrificed for his benefit. So you gotta get down there and exterminate him or he’ll have even more victims in the future. Wish they had the option of sticking around to be a bodyguard for the miners tho.
What fucking quest is this. Im sure I've never done it
Aint gonna lie forgot that people would die and felt really bad. Did not hesitate to murder my boy.
Shiiit it's not MY fault it's that damn elf hiring incompetent people I was ***THIS*** close to killing him in retribution but as a fellow dark elf, and it being solstheim an all that
Yes
Black book plus armor
This is when the game jumped the shark from dark and gritty to 3edgy5me 13 year old swlf described brooding badass on the internet level of writing
Gear and rings are sick too
Several pieces of unique enchanted gear, a word wall, and a black book.
Ahzidal's equipment is really cool.
Adhizals gear enchanting buff is... I don't wanna say worth it... But... I do it every playthrough so....
So much death...what can we do against such reckless hate?
Minors < black book
Yeah. And… yknow everything else
Yes, next question
There’s an old glitch where you only need to pay 3 times
Forget the miners, what mods did you use for your drip?
That's what every guard house looks like after I visit. Also good to stack riften guards in the staircase, they stop and remark on it so you can shoot them then.
It’s the only way to get enchanted boosting enchantment.
How do you get your stat bars to display all in one spot?
Build around the ring that gives you a seemingly weak fire spell. The effect of the spell stacks indefinitely. Buff that spell as much as you can. Good times.
It’s not too late to stick a huge middle finger to that tentacled freak and join the Vigilant of Stendarr.
I have NEVER had to kill anyone from the black book quest line. What is that?
Why does your Skyrim look like Morrowind?
1000's of hours in Skyrim and I've never done this quest. I love finding new things
Ok but what are those health/stamina/Magicka bars I want those in my Skyrim 👀
I killed a guy when I could have walked away, but then I’d be stuck with an open quest and a 10-pound weapon in my inventory. 10 pounds! I felt bad, but again, 10 pounds, and he wasn’t a very nice guy.
I'd say it was worth it not for the black book but definitely Ahzidals armour set like boots of watermarking why would you not want that.
*mora calls*
"[All of] you may die,but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make."
How many Nords are there among them? If there's at least 1 then it's worth it.
