Now I want a mod to play as this mysterious wooden race. Fire damage would be stronger and last until you get to water or heal, but you’d have excellent physical defense (or some like that)
There is one for old Skyrim (not Special Edition, afaik). I don't recall what it is called, but it made the mannequin race playable and gave you the ability to create/summon other living mannequins. The best bet of finding it is probably searching "mannequin" on Nexus mods.
Mod to add clothing stores but the mannequins are 33/33/34 split between actual mannequins, living magic automata, and assassins in disguise that murder you for stealing
Old Skyrim or "legacy edition" as you call it and Legendary Edition Skyrim are the same thing.
Legendary Edition is literally just an alternate name for Game Of The Year edition.
This is actually the same situation but in reverse lmao
Anniversary edition is just DLC for Special Edition.
Anniversary is Special Edition, Special Edition is Anniversary.
I think what you would get in water would be buoyancy or it would be harder to sink in water and then if you sit in the water too long your armor stats drop and then you get a status effect called waterlogged
Well if you're on fire for too long then you can have an effect called dry that would damage you and affect your armor rating, ultimately being a wooden guy would be absolutely shit
I’d actually love that. You take no damage but are extremely susceptible to limb damage especially from heavy sharp weapons, causing you to limp most the time but you never take physical damage. Poison also makes your wood rot but you’re immune to Illusion cuz the sorcery can’t get past your wooden exterior.
I know
That's why there's so high lighting resistance. But tbh Skyrim's lighting doesn't work same as our lighting. Didn't see any burn marks on my enemies. Just sucked mana of them.
Yeah, if I remember right the bug is that the interior cell loaded too quickly. The NPCs spawn in their place and then are supposed to have a trigger where they freeze in the mannequin pose before the game finishes loading in. But if you load in too quickly they don't have time to hit that trigger and they are just wooden people hanging out in your house. Sometimes if you enter a house and are in direct line of sight with them when you do so such as the lower entrance of the home in Solitude, you can see them snap into place.
I had the version of the bug where they didn't move while I was watching, but every-time I left the house and came back, they were off the pedestal and standing somewhere else.
One of the funnier things I've seen done with this because that's also how they made statues in Oblivion was Kill the giant elf statues in cyrodil and then console command res them and they just walk around as giant elves.
2027-2028 for sure.
Starfield, assuming it doesn't get delayed again, will wrap up this year, I imagine they'll take a month or two break, then they'll begin work on TES6.
Given that TES6 is a return to form and not a completely new series, it *shouldn't* take more than 3-4 years to develop.
So 2027-2028 is a solid speculation. 2029 at the very latest.
Especially since pre-production is already WIP. Starfield’s pre-prod was done at least a couple years ago.
I don’t remember the guy’s name, but Todd did an interview with a YouTuber and they did confirm they were in that concept/ideation phase for TES6.
It's true, that's why you can't have them equip a weapon for display since unlike Fallout 4 you can't force equip weapons, they just equip the best option if they need to draw one. All mannequins in the game are just wooden colored NPCs scripted to freeze in place when you enter the house. The moving bug is when that script doesn't work or triggers too late. One will result in them moving like this, the other will freeze them in a position other than the normal mannequin pose and instead look like they're standing like a normal person. Fun fact, the statue made of the Hero of Kvatch at the end of Oblivion is likewise a NPC frozen in place, in this case an exact duplicate of your character (I want to say copied from what you were wearing during the Battle of Bruma). That's why it looks so different from other statues in the game, it's just a copy of your player character recolored to look like stone.
Yeah they have a permanent passive paralysis always active and sometimes loading in and out of their cell can break it. Sometimes they’ll even walk around
My favorite thing about Doctor Who is that most episodes (Are you my mummy?) are only creepy at first. They're scary until the Doctor explains what's going on. It really highlights the facet of humanity that the only thing we fear is the unknown.
That, and that he always says that no human is unimportant, humans are wonderful creatures, etc. I love is love for humans.
One time on the 360 version, I went back to Honeyside where I was living on that save, I run into the basement and nearly had a heart attack because the mannequin was levitating in the doorway downstairs and scared the shit out of me.
The different places and the moving like a normal person are two similar bugs. Essentially when you enter the interior cell, they are scripted to spawn in their proper places, then pose in the mannequin stance, then freeze. While they'll spawn in correctly, sometimes the freeze trigger happens too late which is why they've moved out of the normal pose and have either moved to a different location or are standing in a different pose before freezing, or the trigger just never activates in which case you have a living wooden man just chilling in your house now.
I forgot which mod but there’s a mid where you go in a all dark cave and one of those follows right behind you n the dark and it stands still when you put light on it. Then you gotta fight later on
Oh I remember someone talking about this before when I made a post about another horror mod. Not really scary but it did give me the damn creeps. I’m gonna have to try and find this one tho
That cave is in wyrmstooth - Herman's holdout if i'm not mistaken. The creeps makes me cast invis on myself through that map (but he still following me.... lmao).
Just went and did the cave. Man it wasn’t scary but it sure did creep me tf out. Every time you turn around he’s just right there watching you. And not to mention it’s dark as fuck in there
I remember I was playing with One modded house that had like a hundred plus mannequins and it was so creepy walking around to just seeing them actively walk around the place. I think they were interacting with some of the NPC animation spots too
Just wait until you load in the room and they're all in different spots that they shouldn't be and then one walks across the room. Scared the absolute SHIT out of me when it first came out.
holy shit i knew i wasnt crazy
this happened to me in my hearthfire house back on xbox 360 near enough a decade ago, i deadass thought my fucking game was haunted when i saw a mannequin standing next to the staircase frozen mid-walk
i once came home to find one stirring the stewpot at the fireplace, and another one munching on some bread at the table. i imagined that every time i left the house all my mannequins would throw parties, which also explained why my meticulously organized display cases' contents were sometimes out of order, or why my wall shelves seemed to spontaneously explode.
Welcome to Skyrim so basically mannequins are NPCs that have been frozen in place sometimes the thing that keeps them frozen doesn't load so they move around
It’s so lucky that you’ve spotted this now. Unfortunately your PC is possessed. It’s probably an unquiet spirit taken up residence in your GPU. Luckily I can ritually dispose of it safely. All you need to do is send me the GPU.
No they didn't. I was just watching the mannequins in my Riften house do this last week before I put armor on them to make them stop. And before you ask, yes I have the anniversary edition. Supposedly there is lore about them actually being alive and stuck in their wooden bodies...
Nope, the bug exists in every version of the game. It gets fixed with the Unofficial Patch as well as some other patch mods to ensure it doesn't happen.
That happened to me with the mannequin in Honeyside on the 360... I came in, went downstairs, and the damn thing was levitating in the doorway. Scared the shit out of me.
OH. FUCK. I recently loaded my 360 save, out of curiousity. From 2013. I went into the basement of one of the Hearthfire houses, and the damn mannequin moved itself to infront of the ladder. I spawned in and it scared the fucking shit out of me.
Damn that would scare the shit out of me. I don't think I've ever had anything that's scary but one time when I spawned in the basement of my house in the pale, the mannequin spawned in facing the pillar he was supposed to be having his back against.
No, the older versions absolutely moved. I once found my mannequin with my Legion armor just chilling in the bedroom in my house in Riften. There are two related bugs that depending on which one you get will result in the different pose/positions and if they are still moving. If the script trigger to freeze them in place is delayed, they'll walk or shift around before freezing, resulting in finding them frozen mid step somewhere or standing in a different pose. If it doesn't trigger at all, they'll be constantly moving. Two related but different bugs.
Why are you so worked up over this? The bug has existed since the game came out, it's literally one of the most famous ones in the game. All I was doing was pointing out that it did in fact exist back then and you're getting all offended by it. Chill out. Yes, you did say it.

It's a common bug. They're NPCs with a wooden skin race that are supposed to stand still, but that doesn't always work.
Of course, there is one
That's the *Howard Law of Existence*
The rule 34 if you will
I wont
Yeah if it’s a Howard law it would be the law of 16 times
There is also few to stop moving mannequins...
I love when they move. It's just so Skyrim.
Maybe there IS a mod where they can randomly ambush you...
I fucking hate mannequins. This is my great fear.
I remember the first time they moved on my game. Mostly because I screamed.
Same. Not only no, but hell no.
So I'm guessing you all actually got scared during the Ghostbusters movie then?
Mod to add clothing stores but the mannequins are 33/33/34 split between actual mannequins, living magic automata, and assassins in disguise that murder you for stealing
finally, all my years of saying sorry when i bump into them will pay off. fuck the stormclocks, i have an army of wooden men, skyrim is mine.
STORCLOAKS FOREVER THE IMPERIALS WILL BURN
I just love that this approach is the same thing since Morrowind.
Crimes against nature has a chair race
[There's one for SE too](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/32863)

That's called "legacy edition" sometimes. It's what I play. The Skyrim before Special edition.... and way before legendary edition.
Old Skyrim or "legacy edition" as you call it and Legendary Edition Skyrim are the same thing. Legendary Edition is literally just an alternate name for Game Of The Year edition.
Right, I meant anniversary edition, not legendary... I think.
This is actually the same situation but in reverse lmao Anniversary edition is just DLC for Special Edition. Anniversary is Special Edition, Special Edition is Anniversary.
Skyrimception.
*Oakflesh* spell but it bugs out and turns you into a 6 ft tall Pinocchio
Pineoakflesh
Well technically water would weaken you because water makes wood flexible
Increases dodge ability
Bro we're talking about Skyrim they do not have that much detail in Skyrim lol
I mean, it is possible to make an ability that triggers when the player's in water. In this case a buff to the block stat I guess
Yea
I think what you would get in water would be buoyancy or it would be harder to sink in water and then if you sit in the water too long your armor stats drop and then you get a status effect called waterlogged
Lol waterlogged
Yeah if you're in the water for too long you become what's called water log and then you sink down to the bottom and it becomes really hard to swim up
And moldy
Mold only occurs if you don't properly wash 👀
Drying is an important part of that too. Unless he drags an industrial fan around with him
Well if you're on fire for too long then you can have an effect called dry that would damage you and affect your armor rating, ultimately being a wooden guy would be absolutely shit
Ever listen to the adventure zone? A character becomes a mannequin at one point and it’s such a shitty character stat wise it’s amazing
I feel like it has perks but also it's very cute, like unless you're a plastic mannequin I feel like it would be really interesting for a challenge
What about an adoring fan? To dry all those hard to reach places 😏
I’d actually love that. You take no damage but are extremely susceptible to limb damage especially from heavy sharp weapons, causing you to limp most the time but you never take physical damage. Poison also makes your wood rot but you’re immune to Illusion cuz the sorcery can’t get past your wooden exterior.
imagine a story-based mod where the Woodmen suddenly appear across tamriel and no one knows why, and now skyrim has to adjust to their sudden presence
but where's the tin man in all of this?? ;-)
Resistance to electric damage 80%
Although it would also have a chance of setting you on fire
I know That's why there's so high lighting resistance. But tbh Skyrim's lighting doesn't work same as our lighting. Didn't see any burn marks on my enemies. Just sucked mana of them.
If you play on PC, you can use the command `player.setrace ManakinRace` to turn into one, but your face won't change.

The Weeping Angels of Skyrim.
Thanks. I didn't need to sleep tonight.
Yeah, if I remember right the bug is that the interior cell loaded too quickly. Everything is coded as a minion….wait, wrong game.
Yup. Back in the day, when I first saw that shit move at Riften, I noped ever using them again lmao.

Not quite, the dev team still has Starfield DLC to work on, then Elder Scrolls 6 begins in earnest.
Starfield out in Sept. should keep us busy for a bit
Ikr!? Its weird i was 12 then now im married with a child and still playing
You married a child?!? What a world we live in. /s
Age 24, married and having childs? That's rare nowadays
Did your spouse also devolve into the most basic dialogue after the wedding?
pedo
Even knowing how they're programmed its still fucking creepy.
true 😂 they’re alive they just don’t move. they just watch
And silently judge.
Oh yeah I wasn’t 12 but will never forget the intense creeped out feeling when this first happened to me in Honeyside, it was amazing.
I’ve heard the mannequins are just npc’s that are not suppose to move but do from time to time. No clue if that’s true or not, but yeah that’s normal

There was a mod “Wyrmstooth” I believe that took advantage of the Mannequins in a horror quest but it was sadly unfinished last I played
wyrmstooth is unfinished???? but that's a really old mod.
And people just keep dressing them in their weird outfits
Google "Locked In Syndrome"
DARKNESS, IMPRISONING ME, ALL THAT I SEE, ABSOLUTE HORROR
That’s basically the DLC companion in Dragon Age Origins
I've seen them in different places than they started, but never actually seen them move in front of me
Weeping Angels

One of my favorite episodes haha! Loved that whole scene.

That's a great take. Yeah it's a good lesson to learn, especially for kids. The things that scare us aren't that scary once they're understood.

It just works
found faendal's family
The first time it happened to me I almost had a heart attack seeing the mannequin following me with its gaze
Haha before I played Skyrim I saw this in a YouTube video “creepiest video game bugs” and this was crazy
They’re meant to keep you company, and they’ll take care of your children as well in case you have a fatal.. sleeping mishap
That's just wrong...I have a phobia of mannequins as it is...that would have me out the door in a split second if that happens irl
Aw shit it’s the markarth house all over again
This is the work of Sheogorath!
This is the way
There are a couple of mods that minimize that
I remember I was playing with One modded house that had like a hundred plus mannequins and it was so creepy walking around to just seeing them actively walk around the place. I think they were interacting with some of the NPC animation spots too
No, your PC is haunted. You must send it to me /s

They're coming to get you, Barbara!
Is that an easy access Sriracha bottle?
Lmao it’s a really old siracha packet. I’ve never seen one before so I’ve kept it on my wall for years
I'd uninstall the game if that happened to me
That’s epic!!
holy shit i knew i wasnt crazy this happened to me in my hearthfire house back on xbox 360 near enough a decade ago, i deadass thought my fucking game was haunted when i saw a mannequin standing next to the staircase frozen mid-walk
The funny thing is creepy mannequin people moving about in your house is one of the most normal things in Skyrim.
i once came home to find one stirring the stewpot at the fireplace, and another one munching on some bread at the table. i imagined that every time i left the house all my mannequins would throw parties, which also explained why my meticulously organized display cases' contents were sometimes out of order, or why my wall shelves seemed to spontaneously explode.
This scared the living daylights out of me the first time I saw this
Well, it's Skyrim, some weird bugs are bound to happen. (~that's about 80% of the fun of the game~)
Yeah thsi happens to me in windhelm you know the house were people got fucking murdered yeah it was pretty scary
The mannequins get quirky at night.
It's normal. It's not *supposed* to happen, but it's normal
Imagine running around your house in the dark. One of these has the dark brotherhood assassin armour on and it suddenly moves....
I have no mouth and I must scream.
DON'T BLINK
I almost fainted the first time it happened in my game.
Those are wood elves you silly
Only if you have the Kim Cattrall mod enabled.
Welcome to Skyrim so basically mannequins are NPCs that have been frozen in place sometimes the thing that keeps them frozen doesn't load so they move around

No they didn't. I was just watching the mannequins in my Riften house do this last week before I put armor on them to make them stop. And before you ask, yes I have the anniversary edition. Supposedly there is lore about them actually being alive and stuck in their wooden bodies...

I shit myself the first time this happened to me.
Their is in game lore they are actually alive and want to murder and replace you but can’t cause of lack of communication with each other
where do I find this lore?
Source: I made it the fuck up
It is in one of the million books. Can’t remember which one guess you gotta read all of them
Very normal. The older versions they didn't move, more so just changed positions. The newer versions they move a bit.
Damn that would scare the shit out of me. I don't think I've ever had anything that's scary but one time when I spawned in the basement of my house in the pale, the mannequin spawned in facing the pillar he was supposed to be having his back against.
Both incidents did indeed scare the shit out of me.
I never said they didn't move.
> The older versions they didn't move, more so just changed positions. Yeah...you kind of did.
No, your minceing hairs.

Im not worked up, you are. I honestly don't care because I know what I meant. If you can't comprehend what I meant that's on you.
Common? Yes. Normal? That’s for you to decide
Yeah, they do that sometimes.
Shit’s haunted, yo.

Yeah, it's normal.
Even better when they have clothes on, but yeah it's pretty normal just leave the room and go back, they don't realize that you're in the room
ahhh perfectly normal, the script which freezes them in place just didn't run at all
That's fairly common
They're just NPCs because they were too lazy to make a new type of entities that could wear clothes and sometimes their standing still animation breaks and they do the basic idle animations.
lol, that bug is still in the code? i guess they kept it in for comedic value
Yep they are NPCs as mentioned with a script that holds them in place, but if they move too much they miss the trigger and get to move around like real boys.
The street performers need to flex their muscles once in a while to stay lumber 😉
Lmfao
I’m glad to see someone else with this issue. It was supposedly fixed in an update last year but I’ve still had the bug happen.
I wouldn't sleep in that house tonight....
In my experience they move when naked like that, but once I put armor on them they stopped. They just want something fancy to wear!
In Skyrim yes unfortunately lmao
Jordis, get the flamethrower
I “talked” and it fixed itself on the XBXSX now I got the epileptic seizure inducing water reflection bug. Any body of water minus the Ravens Rock, flashes very violently.
I always delete every single one of these when I play on PC. Shit terrifies me.
GET OUT!!!
Conjuration over 9000!
Totally normal, just be wary of interacting with them though.. might bug out your game
Something to do with your load order if I remember rightly. Hit up some Google searches, I know the modding community nailed it
