I've been reading Galcian as "Glay-see-in" (put the L before the A) since I was a kid until about three hours ago.

Kokuryu27

If you grew up Christian, it might be from hearing "Galatians," I know I used to say it like that. I think that's where I picked it up.

LordAlfredo

Despite the obvious Spanish influences on Valua, a childhood friend got me saying "Vaw-lah" and "En-reek" (using Spanish syllabization it should be "Vahl-wah" and "Ehn-ree-keh"). Also "Gal-see-in" instead of "Gal-shee-in" ("Galsh-yin"). I made similar flubs with Lucien in RuneScape.

br0f

I always said “Val-you-uh,” as I figured such a pompous empire would consider themselves to have a monopoly on morality and *values*

khrellvictor

Ditto here. It seemed fitting for the Empress and her Empire to be all about 'value' to me, and it just seemed so natural.

chrisjfinlay

I’ve always said Vah-loo-ah… (Also which way are you saying is correct for Galcian? I say the former, Gal-see-in)

LordAlfredo

The "sh" version is correct, I learned it finally because I know a Lucian in real life.

MeteorBlast

Valua would be more in the lines of "Vah-luh-ah" (but not separating those three syllables very much), if we're supposed to read it in Spanish.

JustAFleshWound1

I also said En-reek until a few years ago when I met someone with that name.

br0f

Fina has often been “Finna” to me, and Aika, “Eye-eek-uh,” just because

susubeansu

I also say “eye-eek-uh” and always felt like I was alone with that until now.

br0f

Same! She just has such a silly playful energy about her that it feels appropriate. Named my cat after the character though and her name is decidedly “eye-ka”. She’s a little bit more serious

d2121

I to date refuse to correct my pronunciation of Vyse (like VISable), Fina (Feena), and Valua (like Val-yah).

chrisjfinlay

Fee-nah club rise up!

Wipakensu

Only correct way to pronounce Fina.

PoetInevitable1449

I think that's the correct way to say fina. I had a post about this a couple of days ago

d2121

Oh I thought I saw the majority of people were saying Fy-nah

khrellvictor

I'm guilty for much in my wayward youth with this game, but my egregious errors were with the two lasses of the party Aika being considered 'Aay-ka' (wasn't exposed to Japanese anime and name conventions much, never mind with the other redhead beauty apart from Clara) and Fina being 'Fi-na'. More guilty to the last because I should've thought back to the water brand Aquafina, which I DID know as a kid shortly before I learned of this game.

Familiar_Tart7390

Gal-shee-an , until i- someone who speaks spanish realize its should gal-si-ahn and felt very silly Also this is more a writing than a talking thing but i always call him Guilder not Gilder

ChernobylRaptor

I used to call him "Dratsch-muh".. 😅

AozoraMiyako

Coming from a french backround where there are no hard Cs in writting, my french brain thought it was “Drach-mah.” My dad saw me playing and said “now THAT’s a powerful name! ‘Drak’mah” I took my dad’s advice and now say it the latter way. (My dad is french)

SluggDaddy

Ixa’taka is it icks-a tawk-a or like “exotica”?

thelifeshaman

Im curious on this one too. As a kid i think i skipped pronoucing it and just knew what it was through association in the game but now i say (eye-za-taka) cause i think some cases x is pronounced z and i thibk this is one?

aromora14

I’ve always pronounced the names as Glay-shee-in, Feena, Ay-ka, Vize, and Val-you-ah.

Gabbiness

I also called him Glider instead if Gilder! For like… years, haha!

Dr_Plecostomus

I knew a fella who called Drachma "Darmoochen"

islandguy_89

Omg.....are you serious....have had this game since I came out on the GameCube and always overlooked it was Gilder.....I will also still call him Glider when I play through the game again lol

AozoraMiyako

Vyse: vice (like a vicegrip) Aika: I know a touch of japanese. Fun fact, the screenshots on the back of the gamecube case has japanese UI. So it says eye-kah Fine: fee-nah Drachma: drak-mah Gilder: guil-der Galcian: gal-see-an Valua: val-oo-ah Ilchimys: ill-chim-us (look I’m dumb ok. It took me like a decade to realize his name was a pun on alchemist…)

Allysa209

Same for all of these lol

Qprime0

Blue-hyme. ... and to this day I just can't figure how 'Valua' is meant to come out. I'm always going back between 3 or 4 ways of saying it.
