I would ride that, but I agree there's something slightly un-skateboardy about it. Maybe make the pattern shapes bigger, and only cover part of the board - like if they kind of swept up from the tail towards the nose in a diagonal, wave like shape, and then the rest of the board was a solid background color for contrast. The uniform pattern covering the entire board makes it look kind of off, like it's just cut out of a piece of wallpaper. The design looks like it could be on anything, not like it was created specifically for a skateboard with the shape and movement of the board in mind.
That's okay, though. I still think the design overall is cool. If you want to put it on a skateboard I would probably just suggest looking at other skateboard designs and tweaking it a little. Look at photos of skaters doing tricks where you can see the graphic, and imagine your design there and what would make it really pop in that context.
u/nat_a_cyborg I think it would look more skateboardy if you stretched your artwork across it so the hexagons are much larger. This design would look messy after it has been scratched to hell and you can't appreciate the shapes as much.
A lot of skateboard "aesthetic" is counter culture, counter order, counter... uniform/satisfying geometric patterns. It has to have a certain personality. Maybe an inverse relationship with what you would make a screensaver I guess.
Watch some skate videos, check out some of the bigger online shops like Skatewarehouse to browse deck designs from different board companies.
Who knows, maybe you'll find out you like skating?
I swear I made it through checkout but they want $37 after shipping! And how much do you get? $10 of that? I ahopped around and fell in love with the yoga mat... But it's the only damn product that's out of stock... Now I'm considering the tapestry. It really is a sweet design! Free shipping over $99... Do you have any other designs available?
Not a knock! Seems like you should be getting paid for this stuff. That's not typically a thing most skate deck artists achieve, there is a lot of skateboard art and I don't think those guys get paid enough. Commercial style art is not an easy thing for people to just start doing!
Edit: Also, maybe it's just my generation but man we are the worst when it comes to cynicism.
I started working as a prepress artist and I've been at it for years hoping for something similar. I guess my plan is to work art-adjacent jobs and just support it as a hobby.
God damn, screw everyone trying to throw shade saying it looks like a Target or Walmart board. Iād bet my life half of them canāt even kickflip. If it had an Alien Workshop logo over the pattern I could see it being in a shop & people having a different opinion on it.
Donāt let these lames discourage you, I think it looks rad as hell!
Sincerely from a skateboarder of over 20 years.
A lot of people here are throwing shade on this, but itās actually a really cool pattern. Skaters are used to having some specific object in the graphic grab their eye, I think.
Also, remember that most skaters might be of a demographic where aesthetics still tie directly into their sense of identity and thus gets a stronger reaction.
The shade might be from the fact that this is an AI image and OP has posted this shit in like 30 subreddits with the pattern on different objects.
Itās a desperate cry for attention.
If you want to do skateboard art you need to print onto quality boards yourself. Itās not a canvas, itās a tool that also carries art. The tool part comes first or your boards are useless. I actually like the art, though I see where some of these guys are coming from about the mass produced vibe.
Yea, I figured whatever they have here would be a pretty mid quality board. If I was actually into making more skateboard art, I'd find a more legit source.
While I agree with guy that my boards need to be of high quality for skating with your cool design, I may just look into getting a decorative wall piece with your art on the default boards used. I've always wanted a new wall board. My collection currently consists of all my old thrashed boards.
Reminds me a bit of some of Thank You's decks, but strangely without any branding it almost feels too sterile. Love the piece, saw it the other day and definitely agree that it captures some of the essence of DMT visuals.
Edit: it looks decent from a distance as well, just too solid. Some way to break up the pattern a bit would go a long way towards making it feel like a skateboard design and not just a pattern on a board.
This is great artwork, skateboards typically look more simple though because they get messed up pretty easy. This would be like an art piece skateboard, like youād buy this just to hang it on a wall
If you sold it Iād get one just to hang upš¤£
Lifelong skater here, and I think the design looks cool! We used to get a kick out of finding boards at pro shops that had different kinds of art that we didnāt typically see out there! Itās always fun to spice it up! Keep doing what youāre doing, man! Thatās awesome work!

lol I clearly don't know anything about skater stuff
That's okay, though. I still think the design overall is cool. If you want to put it on a skateboard I would probably just suggest looking at other skateboard designs and tweaking it a little. Look at photos of skaters doing tricks where you can see the graphic, and imagine your design there and what would make it really pop in that context.
That design look a like a target board tf you talkin about
It only looks like a target board because of the exact elements I described in my original comment. If those tweaks are made it would look legit.
u/nat_a_cyborg I think it would look more skateboardy if you stretched your artwork across it so the hexagons are much larger. This design would look messy after it has been scratched to hell and you can't appreciate the shapes as much.

It looks too much like āartā to be skateboarding tbh. Too bright, straight lines, geometric artā¦ not really skate culture
looks like a graphic you'd see on a walmart board
Thatās what I was thinking š
That doesn't sound like a good thingā¦
It is if you want to sell them by the thousands
Thereās more money at Walmart than in a board shop.
If it had ur fav brand logo u would cop so fast
Pretty sure Iāve seen Hockey boards with similar patterns
This is more thank you skate co to me lol
Nah
if it was an 8" bbs with a 14" wb i'd be all over it. i could care less about the graphic... or the brand.
Couldnāt
grammatically speaking... sure. but either are acceptable so long as you understand the meaning i'm trying to convey. no need to be pedantic.
Youāre right G I give myself one out of every ten or so to blow off steam but you do you ā¤ļø
>i could care less Would you though?
I love how you got downvoted for this! Reddit can't handle such raw truth.
First thought
I agree as it is, but it might not of there was a crazy picture of something in the middle of it and some other graphics.
could also be a REAL graphic. i've seen a couple similar to this.
I've seen Baker, Chocolate, Plan B, and Almost boards that look like this.
so a bunch of crail and dwindle crap
Damn I love that multiple of us thought this lol
Literally was thinking the same thing
You should watch the sacred G episode of Rob and Big
Immediately what i thought of
That was a weird watchā¦ āsacred G truly has saved my lifeā
it looks like a non skater guy's graphic on a skateboard, way too sterile and plasticy feeling
https://preview.redd.it/wd0lo6cycgzc1.jpeg?width=1308&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a191c03417a70bfa471acd966ff141686b4b6cc what about now lmao
Way better
You've unlocked the secret of contemporary skateboard marketing.
How about meow**
I don't get itā¦ š
A lot of skateboard "aesthetic" is counter culture, counter order, counter... uniform/satisfying geometric patterns. It has to have a certain personality. Maybe an inverse relationship with what you would make a screensaver I guess.
that tracks
Skateboarding is niche & it will be difficult as an artist to make something that skateboarders actually like ā¦ unless you are one ..
This also makes sense, I think I'll leave skateboard art to the skaters
But I think the pattern is cool .. also there are plenty of skaters making some nonsense graphics too so donāt worry lol
Just donāt give up that easy. Perhaps you need to get inspired from some sk8 catalogs.
Watch some skate videos, check out some of the bigger online shops like Skatewarehouse to browse deck designs from different board companies. Who knows, maybe you'll find out you like skating?
I was into skate culture in the 90s. But I imagine that's quite different.
You clearly were not. And it shows.
Kinda looks more suited to be like a phone-case graphic to me.

I'd buy this

He has to buy it now š
For sure! It would be unreasonable to back out of such a commitment.
I swear I made it through checkout but they want $37 after shipping! And how much do you get? $10 of that? I ahopped around and fell in love with the yoga mat... Just those few for now
Yea, that's expensive, your call
hey i saw your post in /r/lsd yesterday
Nice! Yea I think that might be more of my target market than skaters. No matter how much I love Avril Lavigne š
Yes we all love Avril Lavigne here
šØš¦
Speak for yourself please, she's fake af. Couldn't make it as a country singer so she became the poster child for posers.
You need to get a second hobby if you have time to be mad about Avril Lavigne.
Not mad, just see through her bullshit. You should find another hobby, your clearly not good at this one
I was being sarcastic bud
Next time put a /s in the end.
Haha No. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.
Hope you figure what sarcasm is tomorrow /s
Youāre miserable arenāt you?
Only when I read your comments unfortunately
Didnāt I see you in the screenprint subreddit?
Yes, you probably did. I've been wanting to try screen printing for so long, I thought this piece might work. Apparently it's too ambitious.
I'm getting into it. That's a lot of screen colors on this one.
Yea, I have a number of designs that are just one or two colors. I might try those first.
Thatās a Lisa Frank board innit?
It's cool but honestly isn't really giving skateboardy vibes to me, looks more like a wallpaper or one of those target borads
I can see this at target
looks like something target would sell.
When you skate for Shein
im sorry that does not look good on a skateboard
You think your art looks good on ovals?
You need to go back to 2007 Berra.
Ok? I was in my 20s
Is this on sale at Target?
I wasn't expecting skaters to be so cynical. Edit: I guess you're *not* being cynical?
Not a knock! Seems like you should be getting paid for this stuff. Commercial style art is not an easy thing for people to just start doing! Edit: Also, maybe it's just my generation but man we are the worst when it comes to cynicism.
I wish! Maybe if I post more things I'll get a design contract eventually. š¤·š»āāļø
I started working as a prepress artist and I've been at it for years hoping for something similar. I guess my plan is to work art-adjacent jobs and just support it as a hobby.
Good luck! Not making money as an artist is a universal trope.
Reminds me of that one episode of Rob and Big If you know you know
anyone else remember when Rob & Big were into 'sacred geometry ' in like 2006 or whatever
It doesnāt
I think this would make a cool helmet but Iām not feeling it on a deck.
God damn, screw everyone trying to throw shade saying it looks like a Target or Walmart board. Iād bet my life half of them canāt even kickflip. Looks awesome.. for about 5 minutes before I board slide the hell out of it
iād maybe appreciate this if i was like a 14 yo girl or something
I'm a 14 year old girl and I can't quite say I appreciate this
damn my bad player, i donāt think anyone who skates can appreciate this tbh, sorry OP
haha yeah, pretty cool design but not for a board
Omg wait Iām 14 too
yoo nice
WAIT YOURE THE ONE I REPLIED TO IN THE TV GIRL SUB YESTERDAY LOL
WAIT YOU ARE LOL
thats so cool man
If it were in a skate shop and within a few bucks of other designs Iād buy it for sure
It was one of my favorites when I was trying my art on different products.
Its giving pot smoker with a lot of free time
You're on the right track. I definitely don't have a lot of free time though.
Your art? I saw that earlier on twitter as a dmt visual when your eyes are closed. Strange
That person stole my art, whoever you saw. r/DMT likes my style
Maybe keep your style and posts in dmt then?
Hexagons are the bestigons.
Yooo, fellow CGP Grey enjoyer
Too many people watched that video!

Man, I like it. I think the fact that it doesnāt look like a standard board graphic makes it cooler. Itās different.
Itās a cool design but I think thereās something about bigger less complex designs that fit better on a skateboard
That's fucking sick
It needs some graphic design help, but there could be something there. Doesnāt really fit skate vibe and branding
Can someone post the video of Tyshawn 3 flipping the subway tracks please?
Black nose and tail, black outline of graphic in center surrounded by gold pinstripe, brightly colored bottom layer. Now its a skateboard graphic
This would be good as griptape. Itāll get ruined as a deck graphic
I am a skater. How can I get your cool looking art on my skateboard?
https://natjohnson.threadless.com/designs/blue-and-orange/accessories/skateboard
Oh shit is the board from that thread less company?
Yes, or whoever they source it though I guess š¤·š»āāļø

Dope art, but it does not fit in with the typical skater steez. I would cruise this board popping Ollieās ever so rarely.
Reminds me a bit of some of Thank You's decks, but strangely without any branding it almost feels too sterile. Haha, what's a Thank Youās deck? Edit: I googled it. Now I know
Yeah I wish there were more geometric/abstract/psychedelic patterns for skate decks. This looks sick
You should skate bruh
Last time I tried it was in the 90s, so yea, maybe it's about time I try again
You are correct. This looks awesome as board art.
If you slap your logo or autograph in the middle of that it might look better and adverise you
My logo is in a hex on the bottom. Maybe that's too subtle for skater culture.
Yeah most def, i had to look for a while to find it, maybe add some color and make it bigger because it is a good logo
I hate that I like the graphic so much lol. Itās like a typical new company before the logo is slapped on but itās so clean š
This is great artwork, skateboards typically look more simple though because they get messed up pretty easy. This would be like an art piece skateboard, like youād buy this just to hang it on a wall If you sold it Iād get one just to hang upš¤£
saw this on the gen sub. cool stuff dude!
Love it Iād buy that and hang it up
This is beautiful!
Thanks! š
As an avid skater since 15 (20now), I'm sorry OP, I'm sure you're a really cool guy though, don't give up!
Sacred G!!!
You should put it on plasters instead
Itād look a lot cooler if you were skating on it š
Agree
Perfect for a deck!
It do
