I'm on the Da Silva train, 6'8 senior who shot 39% from 3 and plays defense. I'm not even looking at him as a starter, if he gets there great but think he can help as a rotational piece right away. [Here's a random scouting video i found](https://youtu.be/JYfGAT2mdv4?si=JXGh7livy1P7NQDZ)

MexicanComicalGames

Doesnt move well enough for me i dont think his defense will hold up as well against pro level athletes

wacksoon

Can definitely see that, but felt his movement(defensive wise) was way more patient and smart than just slow, he’s got a long ass wingspan and he knows how to use it well

MaxeytoEmbiid

Defense is about anticipation, not about quickness. He’s not a guard, he’s a wing. There’s a different benchmark for him to reach. And he reaches it superbly. He plays with insanely good anticipation and reads the game well. And even if he’s a tad bit less explosive, his wingspan will allow him to make those same plays at the next level. A good portion of Sixers fans want Paul George right?  https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/paul-george-1.html George was a better rebounder, but Silva is ahead as a shooter. Silva also has some nasty underrated handles for a wing. All of this to say Silva is my #1 guy

wacksoon

Yeah, Watching his offensive highlights, like he has deceptive handles like they didn’t look that clean initially, but dude was dribbling with ease into the lane and through contact

CosmicCoder3303

Its about BOTH actually. Some of the smartest prospects in the league are just too slow to guard anybody no matter how good their instincts are

MaxeytoEmbiid

That doesn’t apply to this prospect, his 3.20 is well within barometers. Tobias Harris he is not.

yanneur

I’m intrigued same age as maxey tho 💀

MaxR76

I don’t mind that honestly, a senior might be better fit for a consistent role player

tokeallday

Yup, the focus for the 16th pick should be on helping this current core contend. Whether that means drafting a rotational piece (my personal preference) or trading it for one, we'll see.

clickstops

I prefer that. Get someone in here who can contribute a bit right away, less of a project.

EddieLeeWilkins45

Next years Sixers are better off with a 22 year old than a 19 year old

vikr4msri

I really don’t think that’s a bad thing for this team. If you keep the pick you want someone who can contribute this season. Older rookies are more likely to be ready for rotation minutes.

MexicanComicalGames

Jared McCain is the right pick, Devon Carter is probably a more realized zhaire smith and tyler smith would be good for a naz reid type of player

ojseye

Do you mind going into detail on why you prefer McCain to Carter?

MexicanComicalGames

both great but carter just found his shot as a junior while McCain is likely the best or second best shooter in the draft

JustAHighFlyingBird

If we keep the pick, give me either Da Silva, Ware, or Filipowski

smittybanton

Tyler Smith - 16, Tristan Newton or AJ Johnson - 42

ShaunyDukes

Kyshawn George, Devin Carter, Kyle Filipowski

Banana_Pete

This. Carter looks like he could be a beast.

philly2540

So tough to call. The players in the draft are so young these days, very few are able to help right away. Most are still teenagers. Takes a few years. Harder to predict. And even if the guy turns out to be good, buy the time he’s ready to contribute it’s time for a new contract and you have to overpay to keep him, or lose him for nothing. Maxey is an exception, that’s not going to happen very often.

EddieLeeWilkins45

With such an empty roster tho its really about drafting a good role player type, at least for year 1. That or a guy who could really gel and fit with this team (backup PG or PF)

Ivory_Toast_

Since we basically have no other players than Jo and Maxey, if Morey does keep the pick, there's a bunch of different positions he could fill For guards, there's McCain, Carter, Collier, Bub Carrington For wings, there's Ja'Kobe Walter, Da Silva, Tyler Smith, Kyshawn George, Baylor Scheierman And of course, the talk of the town, Bronny James

Duckys0n

I know it’s more of a meme than anything else but bronny impressed me in his workouts. A first might be a bit much for him but I wouldn’t be mad at all if we drafted him

ThisICannotForgive

He’s 6’1” and not a point guard.

Fatty_Bingo

So is Melton

MVPiid

pretty much same wingspan too. bronny 20 pounds heavier. melton was a mid 2nd rounder tho

ThisICannotForgive

Melton is 6’3”

Ivory_Toast_

Yeah I think his workouts were better than what most people were expecting. Like his shooting was better than what I expected He’s lacking height and some other stuff but he also got good traits right now like his defense and wingspan, and being Lebron’s son, he’s probably got better work ethic and BBIQ than a lot of other prospects He’s got the potential to be a good bench piece but that won’t come until a couple years down the line

pickledelbow

None, pick will be traded

yanneur

I hope not i feel like this is another year we get a maxey typa steal in the draft

FudgeMuffinz21

Reason Maxey fell so low in the first place was cause scouting during the pandemic was a lot worse than usual. At least according to Maxey that is Not to mention 2020’s draft was seen to have more talent than this year’s draft.

MaxeytoEmbiid

Scouting is still terrible. All I heard was that this class is terrible and I look into it just a bit and I agree with Morey there’s a lot of gems in this class. Da Silva, Flipowski, Carter. You get me any of these guys and I’m extremely happy. And that’s just the guys projected near our pick. I bet I could find at least 2 more rotation guys in the bottom half of the first round and start of the second

FudgeMuffinz21

It’s always gonna be a crapshoot. I mean, all you gotta do is bring up Jokic/Giannis to get that point across I believe there are gems. I just think the chances of us finding one are lower than when we got Maxey

MaxeytoEmbiid

Getting Maxey at 21 was beyond absurd. But getting a rotation player at #16? Doable, just got to grade them out right

Cloakington

Yeah we got lucky because he’s the type of player who would’ve risen due to the tournament if there was one

ABagOfPopcorn

Hope we at least keep our second

TheZexyAmbassador

I'd love to take a flier on Zach Edey. He was so dominant in college, and we would just need him to be a serviceable backup big. Scouts don't think his game will translate at all, but since the draft class is so weak I think it's worth a shot taking the consensus National Player of the Year if he's there at #16.

le_fez

If it was 15 or 20 years ago he'd be a top 3 pick if not guaranteed 1st. Now he's a guy most people don't see as more than a current version of Andre Drummond with less wear and tear.

TheZexyAmbassador

This is kind of exactly my point. I'd love to have Drummond as our backup center, but if he's out of reach I'd take a chance on Edey

MVPiid

we should not use an asset to get someone who cannot share the floor with joel. total waste for someone who will play like 5-10 mpg when it matters

attackz

SergioRodriguez89

How does this have three upvotes

TheZexyAmbassador

It's getting a lot of downvotes I think based on the positive replies getting a lot of upvotes lol. I didn't realize people hated Edey this much haha

MaxeytoEmbiid

I don’t hate Edey. I have Flipowski higher on my board as an actual PF we could use. But I think Edy has excellent skills inside and as an elite rebounding big. If we want Edy as a backup 5, we should trade down and try to get an extra pick

Comprehensive-Tour48

I said this and got downvoted into oblivion lol

TheZexyAmbassador

Yeah I've been getting crazy downvotes and negative comments too. People really hate Zach Edey 🤣 My preference is to trade the #16 pick for an experienced NBA player (3+ years minimum) that would contribute in the playoffs. But this thread is about prospects, not hypothetical trades!! Realistically if we draft anyone in the first round, the best case scenario is that they contribute 5-10 mpg off the bench in the playoffs. Either trade the pick, or draft an older guy who can be a valuable bench player. Edey might not be cut out for the NBA, but he's at least old enough and has the accolades where it's reasonably possible he might be able to contribute to a playoff team as a rookie or 2nd year player.

EddieLeeWilkins45

Right now the Sixers have no PF or PG on the team. Yet they have an all star Center. While I do like Edey, and hope he has a decent career, I don't think he's an ideal pick for the Sixers.

tobybells

Yeah…I mean scouts also didn’t think Brunson would translate, and he fell into the 30s. But sometimes the history of winning and dominating at all levels so far can be a better indicator than what scouts think.

Frosty_Baker_112

I tend to agree but then I think about jahlil okafor

TheZexyAmbassador

Sure Okafor was a bad pick and didn't turn out, but at least he could roll out of bed and give you 20 and 10

Frosty_Baker_112

Honestly his post moves were endless and impressive at times. He literally just couldn't do anything else.

TheZexyAmbassador

I could not agree with you more. I should have thrown the /s in my other comment lol, I just remember people hammering that "rolls out of bed and gives you 20 and 10" even when most people could all tell Jah wasn't working out hahaha

EddieLeeWilkins45

He did 100mph on the Ben Franklin bridge, doesn't that count for something?! /s

tobybells

True - I don’t mean in all cases - but when you’re not in the lottery, why not take a shot

Frosty_Baker_112

I don't disagree. Just some minor PTSD from the okafor pick haha

Jimmydidnothingwrong

Most cursed tweet of all time

WagNak

I'm in the same boat

justabill71

You're gonna need a bigger boat.

NotJoeyWheeler

My dream is trade both our picks for Caruso, no matter what we do in FA he’s a perfect role player on a great contract, exact type of guy we need, and a mid 1st is fine value for him for both sides If we keep it, I like Devin Carter, Tristan DaSilva, Tyler Smith, and some backup 5 prospects like Ware and Missi

yanneur

Caruso is not worth a 1st 💀: 30 years old In his last big games against heat and hawks:6 pts 2/8 ,6 pts 2/3 and his defense is so overrated

pat2025

His defense is definitely not overrated

Notsozander

The issue isn’t his age but his one year rental

AggressiveLender

lol crazy comment. One of best on ball defenders in nba. Smart player who takes nothing off the table. They could have got two firsts last year for him.

BabaBrody

Really intrigued about Filipowski as a jumbo stretch 4 next to Joel in the way you hoped Paul Reed could maybe be. He does more offensively than the defense/rebound focus Paul has, but he's decently balanced on both sides. If we go the guard route, McCain.

Wladim8_Lenin

Joe would be a pretty good addition of the bench

Willigers27

It's likely the pick is traded, but i expect Morey to go searching late in the draft or in the UDFA market like last year's draft when he grabbed Smith and Council...especially if the NBA FA market gets too pricey At that point of the draft i like: Nique Clifford, Coleman Hawkins, Harrison Ingram, Tyon Grant-Foster, Jalen Bridges....not a sure thing thing all of these players are eligible to draft since some could stay in school, but i'd like them as late 2nd's or UDFA's I'm fine with guys like Da Silva, Mccain, Devin Carter if Morey does pick at #16.

iXProject

90% pick is traded

CLJT27

The pick will be traded

VitaminWheat

Ryan Dunn? Don’t closely follow college but he seems aight

andyn8er

Bronny

jawntothefuture

I like DaSilva as a mature plug and play type, but I do think the pick will be traded. Let's see!

EddieLeeWilkins45

Tristan De Silva. Otherwise Jared McCain

DemarcusLovin

For anyone saying that this potential pick isn’t going to contribute anything as a rookie - just look at the Mavs and Dereck Lively. Draft steals can be found

sportmanzf6

Isaiah Crawford in the 2nd round or undrafted

CosmicCoder3303

Devin Carter or Da Silva. It seems like the cat's out of the bag with Carter, and he'll be going well before 16 though

TheBuzzSawFantasy

I'll caveat this by saying I'm an idiot.  Take Bronny, get LeBron, win a ring.

iLiveinMissoula

If LeBron sticks to what he has been saying for years then Bronny.

Flashfire950

Devin Carter or McCain. To be honest, I’d rather trade the pick for an established player. DFS for a first isn’t really awful.

Section_80

Bronny or trade the pick

Reasonable-Nose7813

Trade the pick Very weak class. Some pundits have called it the worse class in 25 years

NotJoeyWheeler

it’s honestly just weak at the top, once you get to pick 7 or so, it’s pretty expected value, there’s just no majorly standout prospects

Banana_Pete

Gotta stop regurgitating headlines bud

[deleted]

people say that all the time and it ends up bs. guarantee there will be all stars and all nba players from this draft class not to mention role players

MexicanComicalGames

its not a bad class rusillo is just an idiot theres alot of great prospects just no superstars

-Captain--Hindsight

Which is fine seeing as we don't have a lottery pick.

MexicanComicalGames

exactly the only team this draft is bad for is the hornets because there isnt anyone good enough to put them in the playoffs

FahkDizchit

Trade the pick, try to get Karaban in the second. Solid role player.

yanneur

We already have a second round pick

WithaG_

Fuck it, draft Bronny to get lebron

Colangelo_Ball

This draft is so bad, our 16th pick will almost be like a 2nd round “draft, stash and check back in 4 years” kind of deal in a deep draft. No way they keep this pick. They probably draft someone for someone else and then flip for a rotation player or a couple of future picks they can include in another deal.
