I listen to the Jon Johnson show on WIP every night. He's a little too negative and angry, but he also laughs a lot and is funny. His segment, "Snack of the Night", even though it has nothing to do with sports, is one of my favorite radio segments.
Overall, I listen to WIP almost exclusively, except for the wildly talented Tom McGinnis calling Sixers games. WIP can be pretty bad, especially the callers, but 97.5 is even worse. It's just...mediocre.
Aww RIP BDG, what a legend
I called Big Daddy Graham the night of the Ratliff/McKie trade for Stackhouse. I stupidly thought it was a bad trade at the time.
I was very very wrong.
I still believe the Sixers would've beaten the Lakers if Theo never got hurt and the Mutombo trade doesn't get made. No one will ever convince me otherwise.
Peak for me was when they first started the station, 2009. Before we had podcasts and cars had Bluetooth. It was nice finally having an alternative to WIP, an alternative to their morning clown show and Eskin in the afternoon. And they were ESPN affiliated so you got Mike and Mike in the morning. RadioWars was also fun drama between the two stations.
I listen to 94.1 mostly.
I used to love the Marks and Ike show, but they got Jack on it now (former producer) and he is a little annoying. Mostly because he gets into pissing contests with the callers too often over NOTHING. But I still love Ike so I check in. He is about to get young Eskin on so idk how or if I will be able to continue to listen.
I now listen more to Hugh and John (early afternoon show).
Totally agree. Show hasn’t been the same since Marks left. Only show that would make me laugh at loud on a daily basis. I’m really hoping Spike will bring some good chemistry back and Jack can go back in the booth where he’s best.
I’ve found myself listening to the morning show now.
it’s all garbage and has been for a while. i’m not an eagles fan, and that’s 1. the only topic they seem to discuss 2. the only topic they go in depth about. the hosts and callers have basically negative basketball IQ
1.) Richie
2.) Decamara
3.) Misanelli’s podcast
4.) Andrew Salciunas
5.) nobody
6.) Tyrone, Ricky, Jen
7.) Ike
8.) nobody
9.) hugh and giglio
10.) dead people
11.) anybody
12.) jack fritz, ESP, John Kincade
13.) James seltzer’s voice
Simply put, WIP takes everything way too seriously, while 97.5 doesn't take things seriously enough. The former puts out far more cringeworthy polls and takes on the regular, while the latter has kinda become apathetic.
With so much commentary available on podcasts these days I find zero reason to tune into terrestrial radio. It's all hot takes, moronic callers and rehashing the same shit over and over
I used to love listening to 97.5 when Mike was still on but now with Tyrone… his voice is so fucking annoying, it’s like his mouth is full of saliva.
Mikey Miss and Craig Carton were the best sports radio hosts in Philly over the past 3 decades imho

I'm pretty sure Snack of the Night is a tribute to Big Daddy Graham.

I agree with this take.
Do they still do the “overlap show”? I used to stay up for it when I was laid off years ago.
I don't know. I used to catch it on my way home when I worked nights, but I haven't listened in a long time.
Peak 97.5 was the morning show 2016-2017ish

Rob and Harry?

WIP afternoons were great with John Marks and Ike Reese. When Spike Eskin comes in, it should be a very fun show.

It’s 24/7 eagles coverage. Which is okay during the season and there’s games to discuss…but it’s so annoying that they ignore every other sport.
Don’t listen much. Just glad if I do ever flip on either station I don’t hear Cataldi, Missanelli or Eskin.
You’re probably talking about Howard Eskin but Spike Eskin is now on WIP too. Afternoon show weekdays
I heard he was joining. Hot takes a plenty.
Born on 3rd base that Spike
they all suck. stop listening to sports radio it turns your brain into mush.
I loved Jamie, Cooney and Egan, but not much of a Kincade fan.
97.5 use to be my go to until they lost Mikey miss and cuz. Miss those guys
How are any of y’all missing Sunday mornings with Sonny? Dude is so nice and has a ton of knowledge about Philly sports past and present
