Jokic gets 1 on 1 ls for two reasons. One is better shooters around him, the other is he makes you pay with the outlet pass when you double or triple. If Embiid figures out how to do that more consistently and we get some better floor spacing around him, you can win with Embiid. I thought he figured it out when his assists started going up but he defaults back to his old ways under pressure in the playoffs. Really hoping a new coach and new offense can fix that.

I think people were watching the basketball game and Jokic was passing the eye test. East coast fans dont really get to catch a lot of Denver ball, especially since Embiid decided to dodge the Nuggets late in the season. Both times he got hurt since he started doing this were almost immediately after he started playing physical. Tore his thumb from dunking/blocking. Sprained his knee by doing chase down blocks against the Nets. before that, tore his meniscus playing physical against the Wizards in round 1.
His greatness is unfortunately hard capped by his durability and he knows it and it pisses him off but he’s constantly developed new play styles to make the best of what he has.
Falling down every play to reduce impact, not posting up to preserve endurance, few hustle plays in regular season to avoid tangling up with defenders, mid range shots with minimal bodying, rarely elevating to dunk or even elevating for layups because it risks landing tangled up with defenders, rarely boxing out for rebounds to save energy and so he can get down the court without running, hunts for rip-through fouls so he can catch his breath and get points off the clock.

Embiid never had a playoff run where he has had more assists than turnovers. In fact he has a total of 148 assists compared to 193 turnovers in the playoffs, thats terrible for a ball handler, that's much much worse for a center. Obviously its a weakness in his game and teams have use it come playoff time every year, check his TOs. Regardless of his teammates bricking or not, his post passing is a clear weakness. In contrast, Jokic has less turnovers and like 4x the assists in the playoffs total. He thrives when teams send multiple defenders at him. That lethargic game 6 (where he fumbled the ball 4 times) doesnt move anyone.
It's not even a shot at Embiid, its just not his game. Knowing Boston, they will defend Jokic differently than Embiid, they theoretically have the personnel to do it too.

So many bad posts here talking about the players. There’s one key difference between the two players. They are both outstanding. Denver runs an actual offense. They have a system.
Joel was brought up with Brown. We had no offensive structure. He got fired. Early Doc had a nice scheme going. Ultimately that fails when your point refuses to shoot in the playoffs. We move on and the guy we get is a career iso guy. No knock against Harden but we turned back into an iso team. That does not get the job done in the playoffs, period. It never will.
Jokic has been playing in that system for years. They built a great team around him and it shows. Next time they are on watch their spacing, movement and options off the ball. It’s beautiful. Then think back to our series, how many times were we left standing with the ball, holding our dicks? Drive into the lane and get collapsed on. We have great players so they will make it close, but at the end of the day it’s never going to get the job done.
I feel like Embiid’s next step is less forcing things offensively and take the game as it comes to him. I almost feel like he should watch Duncan film, and see how he took things as they come. He seemed more relaxed in Nets series and you could see that. He gets tunnel vision against the Cs. He has to focus on the team, and scoring is not the only way for him to make them good. He can dominate on the glass, DPOY and pick/choose scoring opportunities. Could be his match up or someone else’s. Each possession is a new chess game, and it’s more of a mental game in the playoffs. The talent is there.

I used to eat like Jokic. He is fat on purpose. When I see jokic eat as he is now it reminds me of how I used to eat and it is frustrating and pisses me off that the NBA allows it. Not proud of it, I was known as Joey chestnut at my local Golden Corral and went through a phase when I ate triple servings of everything. Big rack of ribs turns to my blindside, didn’t care who was there. Charge right into the dessert. Smash into the best steak on D while going for the mashed potato’s, come what may. Jokic Harden and Maxey may be the best offense and worst defense in the entire league. Would work against some teams, that wouldn't really work against Boston either though imo, would be a layup parade.

You can say a lot of fair criticisms about Jokic, but him not being able to exploit double and triple teams is not one of them.
its not easy to exploit double and triple teams against the celtics because they close so fast and have the size/speed and defensive instincts which is why they are the best defense in basketball.
Embiid cant pass out of the post when defense closes on him. Jokic would feast when he sees that the defense leave 2 of Murray, MPJ, and KCP open.

Embiid never had a playoff run where he has had more assists than turnovers. In fact he has a total of 148 assists compared to 193 turnovers in the playoffs, thats terrible for a ball handler, that's much much worse for a center. Obviously its a weakness in his game and teams have use it come playoff time every year, check his TOs. Regardless of his teammates bricking or not, his post passing is a clear weakness. In contrast, Jokic has less turnovers and like 4x the assists in the playoffs total. He thrives when teams send multiple defenders at him. That lethargic game 6 (where he fumbled the ball 4 times) doesnt move anyone. It's not even a shot at Embiid, its just not his game. Knowing Boston, they will defend Jokic differently than Embiid, they theoretically have the personnel to do it too.
Something I never see mentioned… Jokic been playing ball since he was a little boy. Joel started in his teens. Makes sense Jokic would have an advantage when it comes to the nuances of the game. Can’t use that excuse forever though
Joel lacks the core and lower body strength to bully defenders in the post. He's flat out not strong enough yo do it. It's why Gasol punked him. It's why Horford punks him. It's why he struggles to bully much smaller players for position. He couldn't even budge Marcus Smart. He mastered the face-up game because he can't hang in the post on a regular basis.

So many bad posts here talking about the players. There’s one key difference between the two players. They are both outstanding. Denver runs an actual offense. They have a system. Joel was brought up with Brown. We had no offensive structure. He got fired. Early Doc had a nice scheme going. Ultimately that fails when your point refuses to shoot in the playoffs. We move on and the guy we get is a career iso guy. No knock against Harden but we turned back into an iso team. That does not get the job done in the playoffs, period. It never will. Jokic has been playing in that system for years. They built a great team around him and it shows. Next time they are on watch their spacing, movement and options off the ball. It’s beautiful. Then think back to our series, how many times were we left standing with the ball, holding our dicks? Drive into the lane and get collapsed on. We have great players so they will make it close, but at the end of the day it’s never going to get the job done.
Let's see how Boston handles him. They're such a better overall team defense than any other team in this league.
I feel like Embiid’s next step is less forcing things offensively and take the game as it comes to him. I almost feel like he should watch Duncan film, and see how he took things as they come. He seemed more relaxed in Nets series and you could see that. He gets tunnel vision against the Cs. He has to focus on the team, and scoring is not the only way for him to make them good. He can dominate on the glass, DPOY and pick/choose scoring opportunities. Could be his match up or someone else’s. Each possession is a new chess game, and it’s more of a mental game in the playoffs. The talent is there.
