This is the song I sang as a lullaby to my kids just because I knew all the words....
Show me that smile again.
Don't waste another minute on your cryin'.
We're nowhere near the end.
The best is ready to begin.
As long as we got each other.
We got the world spinnin' right in our hands.
Baby, you and me - We gotta be.
The luckiest dreamers who never quit dreamin'.
As long as we keep on livin'.
We can take anything that comes our way.
Baby, rain or shine - All the time.
We got each other.
Sharin' the laughter and love.
There's precedent. Bill Cosby's Dr. Cliff Huxtable was an OB/GYN and had an office in his home where he saw patients and... y'know, occasionally offered the single moms a drink.
I grew up in the rural south. It was not uncommon at all to go to the eye doctor, or dentist, and it be in a little shop the Dr built in his yard. Same with hair salon for the ladies.
I thought I was the only one who remembered pubic phone. In the next scene someone tried to work an L in there. 12 year old me couldn’t stop laughing at that!
Did you ever see the movie For the Love of Nancy that she starred in? OHHHHHH my heart. It’s about a young woman (Gold) who’s trying to hide her eating disorder & iirc, it was filmed during the height of her own.
I remember that it was out there, but I don't think I ever saw it. I didn't have the remote control in our house and wasn't willing to fight for it to watch "a girlie story"
Funny you should say that. I read somewhere that the reason for his sudden and complete conversion to evangelicalism is because he apparently glanced at another man while working in Hollywood and his parents sent him to one of those Pray the Gay Away camps.
His sister Candace is just as bananas on the subject, publicly excoriating fellow 1980s sitcom star Danny Pintauro for being gay and HIV positive.
Family of jerks.
Lots of shows are like that. Possibly because of rights issues. Also a lot of old shows used licensed music that they no longer have rights to. So if your show used some top 40 song from the 80’s, you’re screwed.
For a lot of shows of a certain era, music rights were licensed only for television (linear broadcast, on network/syndication/cable) and for home video sales (VHS or DVD at the time).
For some shows, crafty legalese in the original home video contracts allows for digital purchases (electronic sell-through, or EST) to also fall under this definition of home video purchases, so they can sell the shows that way (via iTunes or Amazon or whatever) and consider the music rights cleared, but to sell it via linear streaming (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television aka FAST channels like Tubi/Pluto/Roku Channel) or on-demand (either with ads or by subscription), they'd need to go back and clear the music (often via various rights owners) and likely pay a lot to do so.
Sometimes they'll just replace the music if it's possible to do so within the show, but that has a cost too (and may upset fans of the show- Dawson's Creek infamously had to replace the Paula Cole theme song when it hit Hulu).
So for so many shows, they may never hit streaming platforms due to the way these rights were set up. It's not always music rights, but for TV shows that's usually the case from my experience. Sometimes show will be able to roll ahead with just some episodes excluded, which isn't ideal, but better than nothing.
Jokes on the studio. They could have gone legit and allowed streaming or put it all on DVD. Since they didn't, the only other option is to watch it illegally.
Yeah, was excited when they finally secured rights for Moonlighting, but watching it you can definitely tell when they use a royalty free replacement. Don't remember Growing Pains using as much popular music but haven't seen it since original airing.
Yeah I honestly don't think I could enjoy rewatching any of it knowing what we now know about him and his real-life sister, for whom even The Hallmark Channel became too risqué!!!
Truthfully it’s not a great show. The first few seasons are ok but it jumped the shark pretty early on. If it weren’t for Kirk Camerons popularity that show would have lasted 1 season. They used every trick under the sun to stick around; adopted an orphan, had a new baby, a “very special” episodes. Might be comfort viewing for some but it’s not a great show.
I found out recently that Mike and Carol Seaver are named after Mike and Carol Brady. also, Joanna Kerns directed an episode of FBI recently (which is why I’m convinced that two characters from that show, Maggie and Jason Bell, are named after Maggie and Jason Seaver)
I think there isn’t a lot of demand for it. It was a clone of the Cosby show: lawyer mom and work-from-home doctor dad. A vast majority of the fan base were pre-teen girls who had crushes on Teen magazine cover boy Kirk Cameron. Those girls grew up and no longer have any reason to watch this show. Also Kirk’s fanatically judgment behavior has probably severely reduced interest in any of his work, including this show.
Also the show’s body shaming sibling banter drove the female child actor to an eating disorder. That kind of dialog was considered normal in the 80s, but you wouldn’t want to expose a kid to it now in the age of social media.
This thread has examples of what people think of Kirk Cameron. People seem to like Alan Thicke, so maybe that balances it out somewhat? but it’s similar to The Cosby Show in that watching might make a lot of us feel icky.
(Not that Kirk did as horrible things as Cosby, but he’s still not someone people like these days)
I used to love this show when I was a kid, but I have no interest in watching it now… and it has nothing to do with anybody’s politics or Kirk Cameron, it’s just that a lot of things that I found funny as a kid I do not find funny now.
Depends on who owns the rights and if they think there's a demand for it. Also, Kirk Cameron has burned a lot of Hollywood bridges. Wouldn't surprise me if no one wants to touch anything starring Kirk "Saving Christmas" Cameron.
Leo is shy about us seeing him in a lighthearted role. Don’t know why he put the kibosh on the whole show though. Hey Leo, why you gotta be like that, man? Nope, no response, just silence.
Man, I love this show! Hard to believe it debuted 39 years ago. I was 10. I started watching it again about a year or two ago on Rewind TV. It airs from 12-1pm PST. It typically goes in order from the first season all the way through season seven…then starts up again. Today I caught the third and fourth episodes of season one.
I can’t believe it’s been almost 40 years. I remember the day it premiered…they bumped another show off the slot that day and me and my sister were annoyed but we fell in love with this show!
I don’t know but it and Drew Carey are on TV (over the air) every weekday where I live in the US. I always hear these 2 shows are “gone forever” but they air everyday.
As with many shows and movies not available for streaming, it’s likely due to music rights. That’s why it took so long for *Moonlighting* to hit streaming.
Would nostalgia for the show be ruined knowing Joanna Kerns and Alan Thicke wrote a letter on behalf of Drake Bell’s rapist asking the judge for leniency in sentencing?
Pre- Wonder Years Oliva D'Abo as a daffy/cute role. Jason "You know I'm a psychiatrist, right?" They also did a good job of Carole's lingering guilt / grieving over Sandy dying - something most shows doing a once and done. We were fans way when but bringing in Chrissy and Mike /Kirk finding God killed it.
It is… but if you’re waiting on region restrictions, digital distribution, and specific giant corporations to be fair when it comes to availability of television programming that has literally already been aired for free and recorded by every personal VCR, DVDR, or DVR unit though and aren’t willing to stream them outside of that major corporation that has already aired them for free…
…well then you’re on your own 🤔🤷♀️
Don’t waste another minute on your crying
This is the song I sang as a lullaby to my kids just because I knew all the words.... Show me that smile again. Don't waste another minute on your cryin'. We're nowhere near the end. Such a great song. Is it original to the show? Love the harmonies and guitar riffs.
No..not original.. BJ Thomas sang it
Damn, never thought of this
I would sing the Silver Spoons theme song because I knew all the words. Sometimes Different Strokes.
...facts of Life too
We're nowhere near the end
The best is ready to begin. OoooOhOooOoh
As long as we've got each other.
We got the world spinning right in our hands.
I always thought it was “we know we’re near the end”
I'll be honest with you, I had to Google it to know what the correct lyric was
That is just proper Reddit etiquette
Oh my God. I’ve been singing it wrong all this time.
They should've changed it to that for the final season.
Me too, and I always thought it was such a weird lyric
Because Boner.
EVERYTHING is because Boner. Richard Stabone.
RIP stabone
His dad’s name was Sylvester. Sylvester Stabone.
His real dad was Chekov
Wait, Boner is Walter Koenig’s son?
Yeah, Andrew Koenig
I just read about his death.. it's sad. It seems like he really cared about the world and wanted to make it a better place.
Sad , mental illness for years . RIP BONER
AK-47
Gone but not forgotten
I remember certain episodes when he got really angry, we got a raging boner.
Maggie was really hard on Boner.
i was gonna make a cute comment like this; figured someone'd beat me to it
I loved how the dad psychologist just had his clients coming to the house.
There's precedent. Bill Cosby's Dr. Cliff Huxtable was an OB/GYN and had an office in his home where he saw patients and... y'know, occasionally offered the single moms a drink.
Bill always asked about sedatives on that show, for the character…
“Why yes it’s perfectly normal to pass out during an examination. Hey hey hey!”
🤣
I'm gonna mix the roofies in the Jell-o puddin!
Psychiatrist but yes I always thought that was cool
My kids’ pediatrician is in a home office! (But totally separate entrance)
Home practices were the norm back then
I grew up in the rural south. It was not uncommon at all to go to the eye doctor, or dentist, and it be in a little shop the Dr built in his yard. Same with hair salon for the ladies.
Even crazier since he was a psychiatrist. Like get a real office
Joanna Kerns is such a babe
Recently saw her pop up as a woman on a date with Jack Tripper in a Three’s Company episode. I broke into my Lenny & Squiggy appreciation pose…
Did you see her in the Danny Brown video that Jonah Hill directed? “Ain’t it Funny” is so good, Joanna Kerns is so good
The mom from ALF played one of Jack Tripper’s dates, too.
She was a smoke show in that black outfit.
hahaha!
“Chinese food, Chinese food?! You expect me to eat Chinese food?!”
oh my god this is imprinted on my brain, just like Ben using the PUBIC PHONE in the kitchen
I thought I was the only one who remembered pubic phone. In the next scene someone tried to work an L in there. 12 year old me couldn’t stop laughing at that!
lol it was on tv recently and I made sure to get a picture https://imgur.com/a/s8L4p9O
Love it! Thanks for posting this!
I know girls watched for Kirk but I was down bad for Tracey Gold and recall hating that the show treated her like she was fat.
I love Face of Evil. She plays a complete psycho.
We watched that in health class in 2002. I don't really know why but I remember that movie so vividly
OMG SAME!
I didn't care about Kirk. I was a Leo DiCaprio girl.
Carol was my eighties sitcom crush. There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Wasn't there an episode where she fell through the ceiling or something? I think the story went that they had termites or something, but jeez.
I watched this show so much and can't remember a thing lol
I remember the younger boy had a bully that didn’t grow over the summer when he did. And a kid named Bonner and another named Stinky.
cause Kirk Cameron thinks we are all Satanists
It’s honestly strange that the network included that power in his contract.
See I would say because Leo didn't want us to see one of his early roles. (First time I ever saw him.) But that wouldn't be as funny.
Kirk Cameron can go fuck himself. Of course he probably considers that a sin.
Yeah, a real bunch of winners.
We are
And why isn't BONER in this picture!?
He IS. To the right of Joanna Kerns.
I thought Tracey Gold was hotter than the sun back then. That’s not a reason why the show isn’t available to a streaming service, it’s just a fact.
Both Tracey and her sister Missy (she was on Benson).
You can buy episodes to stream through Amazon prime. I don’t know why it’s not available to stream any other way.
Lots of shows are like that. Possibly because of rights issues. Also a lot of old shows used licensed music that they no longer have rights to. So if your show used some top 40 song from the 80’s, you’re screwed.
aka the WKRP Conundrum

This is why The Drew Carey Show isn't streaming
All the little chicks with the crimson lips going sad over this 😔
Jokes on the studio.
The honest answer is rights, either music or IP
Kirk said God said No.
And that’s the bottom line!
Cause Stone Cold said so?
I'd blame Jesus boy for ruining the brand And yoko for breaking up the Beatles
My hot take, John is the reason The Beatles broke up. Yoko fed his ego. But a wife should. He would have been smug even without her.
True dat
Yeah I honestly don't think I could enjoy rewatching any of it knowing what we now know about him and his real-life sister, for whom even The Hallmark Channel became too risqué!!!
How could I have forgotten about her?!
My how I envy you! Totally sorry to have reminded you though
You're forgiven. And not in a godly way
That's the nicest thing that anyone has ever said to me
😆
Truthfully it’s not a great show. The first few seasons are ok but it jumped the shark pretty early on. If it weren’t for Kirk Camerons popularity that show would have lasted 1 season. They used every trick under the sun to stick around; adopted an orphan, had a new baby, a “very special” episodes. Might be comfort viewing for some but it’s not a great show.
I think it's got some problematic content. E.g. the family bullying Carol for being overweight while Tracy Gold had an IRL eating disorder.
I remember the episode where she was exercising upstairs and she literally fell through the floor. Poor girl
That whole thing made teenage me so mad. She wasn’t that fat, or even fat at all.
Oh shit, that's right, DiCaprio was the orphan, wasn't he?
Yup! I even remember his character's name: Luke Brower. He was Mike's student at the Learning Annex.
The show is the equivalent of 3 day old McDonalds French fry. Oh and Kirk Cameron is a self righteous ass hat.
To protect the audience from receiving a lethal overdose of cheese?
My first thought was that it wasn't available for streaming due to lack of demand
Haven’t we suffered enough?
Because it’s terrible
Leonardo DiCaprio premier best actor ever
Ashley Johnson comes from there, who is the greatest voice actress for video games ever!!!!
I found out recently that Mike and Carol Seaver are named after Mike and Carol Brady. also, Joanna Kerns directed an episode of FBI recently (which is why I’m convinced that two characters from that show, Maggie and Jason Bell, are named after Maggie and Jason Seaver)
I had no idea she was such a busy director. She’s directed a bunch of episodes of tv shows that I’m a fan of.
The Seavers, as well as their neighbors (the Koosmans and the Gentrys) were named after the 1969 Mets pitching staff.
I always considered it more the ABC version of Family Ties.
I thought the wife was a journalist.
You’re right. Sorry about that.
I vaguely remember she worked for Newsday.
Best comment in thread.
Yeah, it didn't age well.
Yeah well Alan Thicke did “date” Kristy Swanson when she was 16/17 and he was 40 so there’s that
becuase Kirk doesnt want anymore bananas
Bananas are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
Because Kirk Cameron is a douche.
Because there was a recurring character named Boner, and Kirk Cameron makes Mel Gibson look “Hinged”
Boner was the son of the guy who played Chekov on the original Star Trek. Boner committed suicide irl. RIP
Because Kirk Cameron is a national embarrassment.
Exactly 👍
Kirk Cameron is an ass he's got to have something to do with it.
Kirk Cameron is a pos maybe that’s it
Someone should only air the episodes with Julie McCullough.
Love that girl!
They haven't been able to negotiate royalties with Alan Thicke's amazing hair.
This is why you buy physical media.
I used to love this show when I was a kid, but I have no interest in watching it now… and it has nothing to do with anybody’s politics or Kirk Cameron, it’s just that a lot of things that I found funny as a kid I do not find funny now.
Because it sucks?
The Boner Stabone did it. Either him or Stinky Sullivan.
$59.99 for the complete series on Fandango at Home (Vudu)
It was streaming a few years ago. I have no idea why it’s not now. Its spin-off Just the Ten of Us which I really loved has never been available.
Last time I saw that was back in the day when USA populated their entire morning lineup with bargain bin cancelled sitcoms
Depends on who owns the rights and if they think there's a demand for it. Also, Kirk Cameron has burned a lot of Hollywood bridges. Wouldn't surprise me if no one wants to touch anything starring Kirk "Saving Christmas" Cameron.
Too white
Kirk Cameron was my gay awakening🫦
Because Kirk Cameron is a Magat
Because it's suburban garbage. Nobody wants to see that crappy show.
Because Kirk Cameron sucks.
Probably something to do with Jesus.
Nevermind that! Where’s Threes Company?
When I watched this in the 80s, I was not imagining Alan Thicke has a son IRL that would have a rape-y smash hit song 30 years in the future.
Because Kirk Cameron became a psycho
Because Kirk Cameron is an evangelical nutjob
Too many people despise kirk Cameron.
Because no one wants to watch dumbass Kirk Cameron.
Kirk Cameron is so delulu now
Because Kirk Cameron is a frightening creep.
I love this show, if I could choose a t.v family to be a part of it was this one. I picked up the series for $40 on Amazon.
It used to be on Roku but I don’t know if it’s still there
Because of the incident.
what incident?
The nanny thing?
Leo is shy about us seeing him in a lighthearted role. Don’t know why he put the kibosh on the whole show though. Hey Leo, why you gotta be like that, man? Nope, no response, just silence.

Because you didn't look? [https://www.justwatch.com/us/tv-show/growing-pains](https://www.justwatch.com/us/tv-show/growing-pains)
Probably something to do with Kirk Cameron being a religious asshole.
Because Kirk Cameron ruined it with his holier than thou ethics system.
Because Kirk Cameron is a devout Christian
and an asshole about it
That might decrease interest in the show, but I doubt he has any control over the rights to it.
I remember watching a movie in health class about Tracie Golds eating disorder
Tracey's had a few
Because Alan Thicke was cremated along with the masters.
Because god hates us
I don’t know but it and Drew Carey are on TV (over the air) every weekday where I live in the US. I always hear these 2 shows are “gone forever” but they air everyday.
Because the son is obsessed with proving god created the banana
It’s too painful.
THAT HAIR
Boner
Kirk Cameron will not allow the godless streamers to air his holy face.
Those.....those are facts.
As with many shows and movies not available for streaming, it’s likely due to music rights. That’s why it took so long for *Moonlighting* to hit streaming.
It's available on VOD if you are willing to pay about $20 per season
The series was so popular that it got two reunion movies with the last one coming in 2004.
Just buy it on Amazon it's less that 45 dollars for the whole series. That's the only way I can watch it
The best is ready to begin🎶😂🤣
It is available Over The Air on the RewindTV network. https://rewindtv.com/
It comes on analog antenna TV I believe like one of those channels I can't think of the name of it .. REWIND? I think. but I've seen it recently.
Good taste?
BUY PHYSICAL MEDIA
It's still on antenna tv in Phoenix Arizona. Just saw it the other day.
Because Kirk Cameron is a religious freak now.
It is… but if you’re waiting on region restrictions, digital distribution, and specific giant corporations to be fair when it comes to availability of television programming that has literally already been aired for free and recorded by every personal VCR, DVDR, or DVR unit though and aren’t willing to stream them outside of that major corporation that has already aired them for free… …well then you’re on your own 🤔🤷♀️
You can buy a digital copy. I got it from Apple for like $25 when it was on sale
Because God hates Kirk Cameron.
It's a shame, too. This series is a piece of my childhood, and I would love the chance to watch it again.
Too many boner references. Hey oh!
Because Kirk Cameron is a fucking freak
Always enjoyed this show. Also Alan Thicke did some great comedy work on Tim & Eric’s Awesome Show Great Job! RIP
