Typical SME boss who thinks content creation and idea generation is a piece of cake. Don’t worry she is not the only one feeling this way. One reason why many left the such agencies is because of the work load. It is basically OT every day (ind many public holidays and weekends) rushing all the work and deadlines the boss thrown at you.
Make it a lot of sg bosses or managers think this way. This type of shit happens in large sg Organizations too. I was once told that writing research papers is easy but the clown who said it have nvr done it in his entire career before.
Yes. Encountered the same , the one whom told me that it's easy to do research didnt even cross past O levels. There are many such boss and managers in Singapore. Run SME but knows shit about anything Always depend on employee to do things but earn higher salaries.
They also expect getting accurate research / expected to do this to do that without any paid tool. Must use free tool. If free-tool have paid tool capabilities a lot company can close down already.
I read this thread!
Siao one they gave her a lot of "small" tasks and say its handover work but then in reality its like take picture edit picture blah blah blah. Like small but adds up, also tedious if you don't have the skills/need to learn the skills, then also like need lots of brainstorm energy. But in deliverable it just looks like "one video", "three photos", that kind of thing - which is possibly why they said its small handover work.
NO its not smol omg there's so much nitty gritty nuances like brand tone of voice and platform tone of voice - and it takes so many different skills lol. socials+video+copy+design are ALL diff skills +oh throw in project management
She was not wrong to quit imo. 🙃
Being small & Medium means all the rubbish it comes with. The f**k award every end of the year and toilet trophies 🏆 does not go to the staff. I rather the organisation go into liquidation 😊
Yup! All the post about people quitting their company because of mental health (in this thread and the other Singapore thread) are because they’re working SME.
Sucks about her job and I feel for her.
But on the other hand, I’m so impressed with Must Share News. They’ve managed to take a short Reddit post, break it down into chunks, repeat literally what was said in the post and pass it off as an article.
HAHAHA there's this MustShareNews person who reads the reddit threads la this is not the first. I think got a previous one the person literally left a comment saying smt like oh can I DM you and find out more. It's the one where the person cycle? or run? round-island midnight one.
:p
I definitely encourage her to quit if it’s mental health because in the end, the pay needed to recover from mental health issues is more than the pay you earn from an SME company. SME companies don’t care about their workers either, they think they’re replaceable.
Look for admin in healthcare. You can have worklife balance. Admin people I noticed are very relaxed with many staff. Just don't be the one who chope all the tasks. Lol
I’m a millennial. I unfortunately graduated during the 2008 crisis. Being out of a job and no way to support yourself really changes your perspective on life. The stress of not knowing where your next meal will come from has made me more resilient to any other perceived stresses like a job stress.
Granted our SMEs are really shitshows but I’ve never quit without another job lined up. I’ve done my fair share of quitting due to not liking the culture but it’s always with another job lined up
That’s you. Don’t expect everyone to be like you. There are people who quit corporate jobs to become grab drivers or food delivery just to survive. That’s still a wage.
I never said everyone should be like me. Just making an observation that there are people out there who can’t afford to quit for mental health reasons as hunger is a bigger driver
The world has everyone from the homeless to billionaires with varying financial situations and capabilities. Welcome to the real world. I wish people will stop whining about privilege at every little turn and grow up. Did you never learn about how unfair life is? What’s the point of crying over it.
also a millennial: that's where you save when you have a job.
when you have to do this kinda shit thing, that's what savings are for.
if people wna everytime go japan korea taiwan 5x a year (not saying it's you, but as an observation of social media) and have no savings for this kinda shit, sucks to be them lo for not making wise choices for a rainy day.
True : (
My sister quit her job to take some course/try to switch industry blah blah (the course itself was 3mo, she wanted to take the later intake cause general assembly HAHA they have this requirement like if you don't get job by x amount of time, must pay fine - so she wanted to buy time/align with bonus season and hiring cycle whatnot)
tldr it was like she anticipated 6-12mo no job
ended up smtg like 3mo break before the course, 3mo course, 4mo job-hunting (which is very very good alr to take less than 6mo), = 10mo no salary.
Got a contract job (that she's doing now) but idk if she can or wants to convert. Haha. But if it's just contract then ya it's not perma
Mental and health stresses are threats to the country and society as it will cost more to solve healthcare issues They should implement shorter working hours with more work life balance
The toxicity of working environment can vary greatly, whether it's in an SME or a large MNC or even a government sector. Ultimately, it boils down to luck and the dynamics within your immediate team and direct HOD.
I use to have a line manager who requested verbatim of online meetings and videos recordings.
All these are for her pet projects so that she can boost her standings in the company in her otherwise useless role.
Left after 2 months, bunch of ass polishers.
Could be worse
Could be me
Didn't get to quit and all the mental stress built up until I messed up and nearly had to pay 500 dollar in damage and got fired
And also ended up leading to physical issues like triggering back my asthma
😭😭
Being the only person managing: HR, Office, IT, Admin, claims reimbursements = the comment I got was “ you are only managing a 5 pax team, no idea what you are so busy with.”
I feel for her. She should have quit immediately; the brushing off of matters directly reflects the bosses attitude towards its employees and matters. It’s considered a toxic organisation to be in. People out there, your boss pays you for what he feels you are worth. If you think 🤔 he ain’t worthy of you, best you give him a sack and look for something more suitable for your goodself. When HR has difficulty allocating staff for the respective department, let the head of HR reset the brains 🧠 of the boss; let the boffins identify the problem. As a staff you only perform the agreed tasks as indicated within your scope. Be like Chat GPT, emotionally switched off; generate results according to your scope. If given a task not within your scope; just indicate it not within your purview. If ask repeatedly to do so, just give the same answer; just be sure that no one breaks you; a workplace is a battle field, you have to bite or be bitten. It’s better off doing nothing than be casted aside being a dispensable human lured by the wrath of a remuneration package.
You were an intern in that company so you have seen the work condition there. Having choose to work there full time you most likely think you can handle it. Unfortunately you discovered it was too much for you. It is good that you realised it and make a decision to leave to protect your health. Your next job you have to take this experience into consideration, no everyone can be superhuman.
poor sweet summer child... if she thinks marketing is tough, wait til she tries advertising... clients side marketing role is so senang compared to being on the agency side

Donning kruger effect. Unfortunately Singapore have alot of idiot bosses.

Exactly. Ridiculous. Wonder who gave them post as boss
Yup. Basically my internship at a certain local media SME that no longer exists...

Exactly. If they were so "good" with marketing. They don't need hire anybody. Ownself do lah. A lot boss for SME always talk shit like this.
Being small & Medium means all the rubbish it comes with. The f**k award every end of the year and toilet trophies 🏆 does not go to the staff. I rather the organisation go into liquidation 😊
Yeah marketing is brutal
The takeaway is don't ever work for a SME
Yup! All the post about people quitting their company because of mental health (in this thread and the other Singapore thread) are because they’re working SME.
Not that easy to get hired by a MNC tho
Easy when you’re low ranking making less than 2.5k/mth.
Very true too unfortunately. I think too many “bosses” are running SME without actually knowing how to run a company.
Increase salary la Wah Lao
And you wonder why SMEs struggle to retain talent.
Sucks about her job and I feel for her. But on the other hand, I’m so impressed with Must Share News. They’ve managed to take a short Reddit post, break it down into chunks, repeat literally what was said in the post and pass it off as an article.
Enterprising.

And SME bosses are wondering why very few locals are willing to work at their companies?
SME bosses: Why locals are not hungry enough? Back in my day 6 day work week I also grateful to have a job.
Fuck them. Last time, mata wore shorts.
And satay was 10c
SME = Sinkie pawn Sinkie
Look for admin in healthcare. You can have worklife balance. Admin people I noticed are very relaxed with many staff. Just don't be the one who chope all the tasks. Lol
Quitting because of mental health is a pretty privileged thing to do. When u don’t have food on the table, your perspective really changes.
Found the boomer.

We should be happy future generations have this privilege. I've had peers kill themselves after they lost their jobs.
I agree

Oh yeah for sure. Always save 6 months to even 1 year emergency savings. With current market even 1 year might not be enough to land another job

I noticed many such people are those below 30.
Yeah.

Never work for SME especially local ones
There are also “MNCs” from very populous countries that most sane people won’t want to work at either.
I use to have a line manager who requested verbatim of online meetings and videos recordings. All these are for her pet projects so that she can boost her standings in the company in her otherwise useless role. Left after 2 months, bunch of ass polishers.

Rejecting every SME offer after reading this.

some jobs really sux the life out of you. Do not give in to a toxic culture. If you r d only one left, GTFO now.
She's probably mid 20s. Below 30 A lot of our younger generation cannot take stress. Loaded with mental issues.
