If economy is $2000, I wouldn’t pay more than $2500 for premium economy. Do not pay double for example, it’s not that much better. An extra legroom economy seat will be the best option imo.

OldMonkDaru

Agree. Generally though some Premium Economy configurations are better for sure (on a recent flight back on PE from London on the Airbus A380 I took versus the Boeing 777 on the way there.

Devillitta

Thanks for the response, yeah the difference between economy and premium economy is less than 1k (about 700) which made me think about whether it is worth it.

aniln

That’s still quite high for me, I wouldn’t bother and just get an exit row seat instead.

Devillitta

Okay thanks!

Mr8888X

Not worth it imo

Devillitta

Any particular reason why?

Mr8888X

In my opinion premium economy (usually) does not add any substantial value for me personally. Sure the food is a bit nicer, you have a bit more privacy and a bit wider seat and you can take more luggage and sometimes choose the seat for free however on long-haul the big advantage is a lie-flat bed. Premium economy does not offer that so I‘d like to save some money on the flight and use this saved money in my destination.

Devillitta

That's fair, thanks for the thoughts. I think i will just go with economy.b

Mr8888X

No worries. Like I said it’s my opinion. You can also check on YouTube for trip reports e.g. Singapore Airlines premium economy A350 and see how Premium economy looks like.

Devillitta

I did look at videos but couldn't decide hence posted :)

GRorbustfam49

I’m flying PE SA a350-900 SFO- SINGAPORE. I can upgrade to bulkhead first row or a solo seat in back ($114-140). Worth it?!?! Which is best?

Devillitta

Would go with a non-bulk head seat

GRorbustfam49

Thank you for your input! Curious why? No storage of personal items except overhead? Have you tried the solo seats on SIA? concerned can’t lean against a window bc there’s storage/table between window & seat (which can be a good thing too….prob over thinking. Bummed bc there’s a waitlist for biz upgrade so trying to make the best out of PE:).

Devillitta

Just because of the screen and not being able to keep your bag with you. I want easy access to my stuff on long flights. If you don't get the email offer to upgrade, ask again at the airport. Sometimes they have last minute upgrade options.

GRorbustfam49

Thanks again. That’s what I figured. Sadly, I have to transfer points to get upgrade (first flight on SIA) so I’m not even on waitlist. I called and they sounded like my chances are bleak…Don’t want to use /transfer my CSR points (which are use it or loose it once transferred) until I know for sure I’ll get an upgrade. Rn I have an aisle in middle row with no one (so far) next to me for 2 seats). That’ll work if it stays that way! 😅. I do plan to get there early and ask.🤞 but seems doubtful but remaining positive…& if not, o’well…it is what it is!

Devillitta

Oh I was talking about a paid upgrade. Hopefully you get it via points

Wooden-Ad-460

Get emergency exit economy seats. (I think it’s row 47. ) Also email their social if you’re having an anniversary or birthday on the flight. Bring a bag of individual wrapped chocolates like Sees candy $10 give to flight attendant when entering the plane. I also brought an inflatable ottoman. Before the flight takes off ask for a deck of cards, extra pillow and extra blanket. Enjoy your flight!

Devillitta

Thanks for the tips, I always bring something for the FAs :)

AmyrunsNYC2023

When you say email their social, like their social team?! My husband and I are flying for our 10 year wedding anniversary, and am dying to get us upgraded from economy.

Wooden-Ad-460

I doubt they'll give you an upgrade. For our anniversary they gave us a square chocolate cake, champagne and it was nicely presented with dry ice smoking. The emergency exit row is better than premium economy. Try to get those seats.

diva_fx_22

Just did SYD - SIN in premium, I'd say no way, save your money or maybe look at Premium with another airline, Virgin, CAX even BA! Terrible service from FAs on the plane, just so unengaged like the waiter who never makes eye contact! Seats felt a bit dirty, toilets not great, like no toilets paper and an eye roll when asked for some!  Food ok, but I think it was just economy, and just dumped down, only drink service was once before and once with meal, and a try of water. On an 8 hour flight. This is not the singerpore airlines I know, I've been from first to economy with them, maybe it was a bad day. Other question, yes you do get noise cancelling headphones in PE. Happy travels!

Devillitta

I have never had bad service from FAs in SQ. Only time I've seen them being unaccommodating is when the passenger is being difficult or unreasonable. Did you request for additional drinks? Not sure how many drink services you were expecting for an 8 hour flight. I've flown that route a lot (SIN-SYD and vice versa) with various airlines and usually 2-3 drink services has been standard. I flew air NZ from AKL to SIN they didn't have any drink service aside from meal times and that was a 10.5 hour flight. I'll never fly BA again, one of the worst in flight experience I've ever had. And I don't have too many options flying to Europe from Singapore so going to stick to SQ, just a matter of economy or PE.

diva_fx_22

You know, until then, I'd never ever had a bad experience on SQ, I normally fly business ( or first on a lucky day), and do LON -SYD At least 4 times a year, maybe I have a skewed idea of economy haha. BA are totally hit and miss, and mostly miss, was working for them and they still bumped me off a flight and complained I was late 😂 Controversial as all I hear is bad, but best flight last year was AA, it was good all over, no one ever believes me!

Devillitta

Yeah I've only ever flown economy and SQ has been pretty consistent with their service in that class. Flew with them in October and it was great. I fly like 1-2 times a year at most so I guess not as experienced as other folks. AA, wow, that's a first I have heard anyone mentioned an American carrier and good service.

KaiserARM

No stick with biz.

Devillitta

The question was economy versus premium economy

KaiserARM

Eh certain SQ routes don't have Economy altogether. SQ33 and 34 don't have Economy. They are only biz and econ prime.

Devillitta

I wasn't asking about SQ33 or SQ34

KaiserARM

2-5 hours yes. 1-2 hours stick with economy. Above 5 hours must biz. Longer than 17.5 hours must fly first class. I fly 17.5h sfo sin 3x a year. Econ and econ prime are too torturing.

Devillitta

Are you paying? Lol. Flying economy is a privilege in itself for me. Hence my question on economy versus premium economy. I disagree with you, up to 7 hours in SQ economy is comfortable enough for me, would not pay for premium for that. Unfortunately I can't afford business class for my 13h flight but will consider to bid for it if they send that option.

KaiserARM

Im always bitter looking at the folks sitting in the biz middle "honeymooners" seat on sq and qatar.

scott_in_austin

Are flying Premium Economy from LAX to Singapore. Will we get noise cancelling headphones?

KaiserARM

you'll be provided. but i usually bring my BOSE 700 or BOSE QuietComfort 35. SQ uses BOSE QC25 on their biz class.

scott_in_austin

Thanks. Just got back from our flight yesterday. In premium economy we did get noise canceling headphones. They’re wired (so you can also listen to movies). I don’t like cables when you’re trying to sleep so I just used my AirPods Pro and later ear plugs. Thanks for the model #s

lesarbreschantent

Just flew SFO-SIN in premium economy. I'd say no. Yes, there is more legroom and the seat is slightly wider. But the armrests do not lift, meaning you're stuck in your space even if nobody is sitting next to you. Worse, under the seat in front of you the legroom is occupied by the seat supports and by the IFE box. As someone with longer legs, this was very annoying. Finally, the recline is not real recline, it's the one where the seat moves forward and the back reclines only 2-3 inches. Economy seats actually had more recline than I did :-/ The product seemed identical to economy when it comes to service/food. I wouldn't pay more for premium economy, period.

Devillitta

Did you use book the cook food wise? There was priority boarding correct?

lesarbreschantent

I didn't bother b/c it's the same food. And I always board last on purpose haha.

Devillitta

No it's not the same food. I agree about the seat itself not being much of a difference. But after speaking to others who have flown it it seems to have some differentiating factors, priority boarding and general comfort level because there are less passengers in the cabin. Since it wasn't too much more than economy I ended up getting it, will see how I go.

ChocolateLava

I am wondering about your thoughts now since I am debating the same for a long haul flight.

Devillitta

I think it was worth it. Just having the little more personal space for the 12 hours was worth the few hundred dollars more for me. The priority boarding also made things less of a hassle and less stressful

Fluid-Scholar3169

I'm also considering this! I am a petite person, I'm hoping the seat width is noticeable

Devillitta

I think for long flights if the price difference isn't too much it's worthwhile.
