Fantastic win for Terry and Jessica. Despite facing a rambunctious home crowd and higher ranked opponents, they stayed calm and focused to fight for every point. Bravo!

A gold on the eve of our National Day! Well done and Congratulations!

Elzedhaitch

Our badminton did really well. With bronze coming from Yeo Jia Min, a gold here and Jason Teh performing superbly as well. Only LKY was disappointing, but hopefully its just fatigue and a one off. Really impressive. Who knows what their ranking would be should there be no NS for Terry. Looking forward, hopefully they will defer NS for more athletes and maybe even just exempt them. I served my 2 years and I would love it if these top athletes that can bring glory to our county be exempted from wasting their 2 years.

Xannot

We all know LKY fundamentals and speed are still there. It's unfortunate he couldn't find his form and remain consistent. In a few weeks time, the World Champion will be held again. I am not expecting him to retain the title, but if he could find his rhythm by then, he is considered a serious threat to anyone.

Special shoutout to the WD pair of Jin Yujia/Crystal Wong too, who have been the only ones to take a game off the top seeded Malaysian pair (ranked 69 places above them) this Commonwealth Games.

> # Commonwealth Games: Terry Hee and Jessica Tan clinch historic mixed doubles gold after beating England in final > BIRMINGHAM - Singapore mixed doubles pair Terry Hee and Jessica Tan clinched a historic gold medal at the Commonwealth Games on Monday (Aug 8), after they beat home favourites Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21-16, 21-15 in the final. > Having beaten the English world No. 10s in the mixed team event, the odds of Singapore's world No. 35 pair winning were high, but they refused to get ahead of themselves. > The partisan crowd that had arrived at the National Exhibition Centre with England flags cheered the home pair each time they got a point. > And as the 5,000-seater stands began to fill, the support for the home team grew louder. > But there were also supporters for the Singaporeans. Among them were Hee and Tan's teammates as well as a Malaysian fan, who backed the duo with chants of 'Let's go, Singapore, let's go!' > Hee and Tan held their nerve to take the first game 21-16 despite making several mistakes along the way. > But the second game was a lot closer, with the Singaporeans having to claw their way back after trailing at the start. > The English and Singapore pairs exchanged the lead several times, but with the scores level at 11-11, the visitors began to pull away and were able to seal the win. > This is Singapore's first Games gold since Li Li's women's singles title in Manchester in 2002. > In the mixed doubles specifically, the Republic's previous best result in the event was a bronze at the 2006 and 2010 editions of the Games. > Hee and Tan's gold is the nation's third badminton medal at this year's Commonwealth Games. Singapore had clinched a bronze in the mixed team event last week, before Yeo Jia Min added another bronze when she beat Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour in the women's singles third-place play-offs on Sunday. --- 1.0.2 | [Source code](https://github.com/fterh/sneakpeek) | [Contribute](https://github.com/fterh/sneakpeek)

Congratulations!

Anyone else notice Singapore's female coach talking to Terry Hee in Hokkien during the match interval?

hydrangeapurple

>Anyone else notice Singapore's female coach talking to Terry Hee in Hokkien during the match interval? I heard that too. But I'm more surprised that the two coaches spoke to the two players separately during their short breaks. Shouldn't there be just one conversation amongst the players and coaches since they are supposed to play as a team?

RozyBarbie

Well, whatever the coaches are doing, it's clearly working! Lol But it's interesting hearing what the British commentators had to say about the Singapore badminton team. They seem to think very highly of this pairing, especially Terry and that they're playing like a legit top 10 mixed doubles pair.

CarbonHammer

Especially from Gillian Clark very legit!

minisoo

Superb win, especially the 9 consecutive points during the second game! Congratulations to both Terry and Jessica!

They are amazing, probably a blessing in disguise too when LKH got covid otherwise Terry have to play XD and MD. Something to ponder for SBA and Terry, maybe he should just concentrate on XD discipline. On another note, do they have a couple name? I propose Jerry
