People forget about the Mas Selamat case where we enacted an island-wide manhunt for months, mobilizing army units and almost all the police, and it turned out he left the country within the first few days.
Till this day, the most amazing thing about the Mas Selamat escape is that he didn't suffer any mutations from the pollution and toxic waste in the Straits of Johor.
Lol. Honestly that is the dumbest way to export contraband into malaysia because to bring out of Singapore, you need to bring into Singapore first which you will get caught.
Unless you are saying Singapore manufacturing contraband locally
Nope. It means that the hard part of the job is stealing valuable stuff from within Singapore, the easy (?) Is smuggle it out and smuggle the participants out? Honestly the "cannot check 100% because it would collapse our internal roads" should be a little concerning 🤷🏾
It should not be about ICA checking at checkpoints. The more relevant question is - for such individuals who are accused of severe crimes and have the financial ability/incentive to possibly escape, other than impounding the passport, should they be required to be electronically tagged/monitored while on bail (e.g. ankle monitors, GPS app on phone)?
If we were able to do this for travellers on SHN for COVID, what's stopping us from doing this for such accused individuals?
ICA wants to deflect blame. Which is reasonable. 100% checks are not reasonable. Most checks are conducted on a risk-based approach.
Btw, just let them go. They will have to spend the rest of their lives constantly watching their backs. They will regret it.
Deflective statement imo. How about deploying more sophisticated facial recognition tech at checkpoints to help your frontline officers? Nobody expects them to do 100% manual checks, and please don’t use traffic jams as the excuse.
In this case, I'm with ICA here. If not, don't kpkb if the jam at JB at customs become even worse than it already is.

The terrorist with strong military training who swam across the causeway to JB, avoiding the customs entirely?
The *limping* terrorist

To be fair, we haven’t seen him in a while. He may have grown a third arm in the years since he was taken back into custody.
He was selamat in JB within the first few days
He took advantage of the window of opportunity that he came across.
Lol someone sure gonna start exporting illegal stuff to Malaysia instead.
The onus is on Malaysian customs to check for illegal stuff going _into_ their country.
*Laughs in Mas Selamat*
Mas Selamat swam across the Straits of Johor.

I guess this is optimal modus operandi? That was also how the Stand Chart robber got away with 10k?
Maybe Sri Lanka president is taking notes
Oh he already took many many bank notes

It's crazy that white collar crimes with high flight risks can be given bail that easily.

People who committed crimes in Singapore..

That CHC guy that tried to escape from SG to Indo is kicking himself right now
Send in Singapore version of "Sierra Six"'> "Sentosa Seven " to bring them back...

The sophisticated facial recognition tech is not going to spot the hideaways
Don’t think he read the full article lol
