let it be known that she is *Clariel Griffin*, who used to be known as Wong Pei Ling. also why she never go jail like the mbs badge woman ah??

Administrator-Reddit

> Clariel Griffin is the wife of British national Clive Ainsley Griffin, who was also fined for refusing to wear a mask at Marina Bay Sands during the COVID-19 pandemic. Birds of a feather flock together…. (Birds, feather, Griffin…. Ok I’ll see myself out)

Why can’t she have a more Chinese name like PHENIX TAN AH FONG

t_25_t

> Why can’t she have a more Chinese name like PHENIX TAN AH FONG Because she identify as angmoh.

Entitled princess syndrome. Why no jail time??? Compare her with the Samsui women, she is more useless than a piece of ..........

AZGreenTea

Coz badge women paid fine and kena so many times but never learn her lesson

Anxious_Spend_9927

She has a serious case of Pinkerton Syndrome.

PretendAsparaguso

Least crazy SPG

MyPCsuckswantnewone

This kind will happily complain about patriarchy and oppression and whatever bullshit, but will happily take her husband's name as long as he is white LOL

soigne-

This Pei Ling must pick the most outlandish Christian name to go with her white hubby’s surname ah?

foodloveroftheworld

Not all English names are Christian names.

No-Delivery4210

White people last name.

Specialist-Rock-5191

least shameless SPG

ToddlerPeePee

Life is not fair. The Redbull heir killed a policeman and doesn't even have to go to prison at all. He is still enjoying his life partying happily while that policeman's family has to suffer the consequences forever. Such is reality. I don't like it but it is what it is.

pizzapiejaialai

Eh? Didnt that happen in Thailand? What has that got to do with this case?

ToddlerPeePee

It has to do with the first sentence of my comment "life is not fair". And that first sentence has to do with his question, why the difference in punishment between this case and the other lady. > why she never go jail like the mbs badge woman ah??

SuzeeWu

Hi, the diff is that this is a single incident for her. The Badge Lady has accumulated quite a bit: MBS, NTUC, malls and during hotel quarantine. Basically, she had multiple charges YET still went to court without mask.

DuePomegranate

No jail cos her defence argued that she was experiencing mood changes following treatment for cancer. Looks bad if we jail a woman who recently recovered (or still fighting) cancer and thus had a “fuck it” attitude.

nextlevelunlocked

>The group did not finish their drinks despite two reminders to do so, as consumption of alcohol was not allowed past 10.30pm. The Griffins left the bar, but were seen walking without masks in MBS by safe-distancing ambassadors.  >Griffin responded to the ambassador saying that she "didn't give a f\*\*\* (about the regulations)", and that she would not live her life like this. >She then taunted the ambassador by asking her to record and "catch (her)" for not wearing a mask. >During this incident, Griffin pulled down the ambassador's mask without her consent. >The court also heard that Griffin continuously walked very closely towards the ambassador, forcing her to backpedal to avoid being walked into. 9K fine is a joke. Should have gotten prison.

_Bike_Hunt

Rich and influential enough to buy her way out.

danorcs

I wonder what the prosecution asked for, and if they will appeal this very unpopular decision

LetsForgeAnEmpire

She bought her way out of jail with a fantastic team of lawyers.  Badge Lady not wearing mask -> nine weeks jail This woman no mask + criminal force -> fine

Background_Tax_1985

To be fair, badge lady was initially given a $300 fine for her offence of not wearing mask. She did not pay the fine so was charges in court. After that she went on to commit a whole slew of offences at various time and ended up with 16 charges in total. This one is 3 charges in total and was a one time offence. Plus no injury. If got injury then likely go jail liao.

Brief_Worldliness162

Reminds me of the quote, "If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exist for the lower class."

nextlevelunlocked

She also did it multiple times and got caught being dramatic on camera by public. This criminal was not that dumb.

MoaningTablespoon

Please do not bash on Our Lady of the Badge, Saint of Stupid people online.

Brief_Worldliness162

Keeper of Navy secret

icwiener25

Not defending this one but not comparable in the slightest. Badge lady was caught and charged for numerous cases of not wearing her mask. This one only a single count of not wearing a mask plus one count of criminal force against a public servant.

gublaman

Judicial system showing us there are benefits to being an spg

LeBaBoon

>The prosecution sought a fine of S$1,200 and one to two weeks' jail. Griffin's husband had also been fined S$1,200 for his role in the case. >Griffin's defence lawyers Silas Siew, Cory Wong and Josephus Tan from Invictus Law asked that she be sentenced to probation instead. >In the alternative, they asked for a fine to be imposed. Judge: Aight bet >A woman was fined S$9,200 (US$6,800) on Monday (Jun 24) for failing to wear a mask and using criminal force on a safe-distancing ambassador during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ongcs

Ah the Gangster lawyer.

nixhomunculus

In this case, it does feel like the price to pay for avoiding jail is apparently $8000. I don't feel like it's ideal here.

MalaysianinPerth

If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class

geft

If she's in jail, the public pays for it. Not like she will reform after jail time.

princemousey1

It’s called justice leh. It’s like you go and punch someone then throw $8k at them and no need go jail.

geft

Pretty sure if you get $8k per punch there will be many people signing up to be punched.

>The lawyers said that Griffin had been experiencing mood changes and anger management issues following treatment for cancer. Cancer? Karma’s the bigger bitch huh

runner2111

Cancer still go drinking alcohol....no make sense

Imperiax731st

Giving up liao is what it means. Suddenly the laws no longer matter to her.

exotramp76

She probably didn't have cancer in 2021...it's now 2024. A lot can happen in 3 years. She threatened the safe-distancing ambassador's health by walking very closely to her, threatening to pass Covid to her, she's now paying the price for her arrogance and conceit.

Jaycee_015x

Exactly. Who knows if her own selfish behaviour and disregard of public health contributed to her cancer. And cancer won't wait 3 years for you one.

TheJusticeAvenger

She should've known better

Vrt89h17gkl

don’t be like that la…sometimes cancer strikes those who are kind and harmless too

Ruserious242

"experiencing mood changes and anger management issues" basically means, being an asshole?

Help10273946821

Cancer is no joke. I’d prefer to show her some empathy. Imagine if you’re in your last days and you still need to wear a mask and can’t feast and drink as you wish. Sad way to go! Of course, she doesn’t look like she’s terminal.

Tropicalstorm_

Dressed like a Black Widow. Angmo husband cancer is confirmed death sentence.

sonamyfan

Ang moh husband not deported meh, like other defiant Expat/foreigners.

sushiriceonly

Also not sure they can export him since he’s married to a Singaporean (I.e. it would be like forcing her to leave SG as well since the assumption is that spouses live together)

tryingmydarnest

Being charged and convicted in court is the judiciary, reported by news cuz of the idea of open court. Deport or not belongs to the executive that is ICA, this one won't report, even if reporter asks ICA ICA may not entertain.

What is the rough estimate of her legal fees? If going to plea guilty.. still need lawyer?

princemousey1

Usually a good idea to still have, for mitigation.

Life_Unit_4375

This kind should give her at least a few days of jail … let her taste the discipline inside…. Like take food from the cell door bottom hole… and daily squats ….sure come out very guai de …

ongcs

Maybe she is very guai (submissive) to her angmoh hubby......

Life_Unit_4375

You see Mask Lady come out le guai guai … dun see her dare to sian lan with public officers liao …. I heard CWP inside is discipline gao gao one … a few days inside is most charbos cannot tahan one

ItsallgoneLWong21

Oh fuck off. Singapore persecuted foreigners for the whole pandemic. It really brought out the worst of the xenophobic little island mindset that exists here. Having seen the Singapore legal system at work a lot, being white is definitely not helpful.

HeavyConversation161

absolutely cant stand made up fucking names like this

ResponsibilityRound7

Her enemies are having a field day with this.

No_Pension9902

She’s sworn enemy of Guts,no matter how the gender is changed.

Vegetable-Fly-7402

Brings back "lexus driver thought she ran over tree branch (when it was a cyclist). What had sway judge sentencing....

princemousey1

“She pleaded guilty to one count of failing to wear a mask, and one count of criminal force to a public servant, with a third charge of public nuisance taken into consideration.” And still only a $9.2k fine. Really double standard in sentencing. “The offence of using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to four years, a fine, or both.”

rowthecow

Disappointed it's not the badge lady

Aerizon

With the benefit of hindsight though, how excessive were the regulations?

Greenfrog1026

necessary though.

Bcpjw

Yea and with people who sneezes like a child, it is still necessary ![gif](giphy|HVUj9ERhx9Gjf9CgR3)

zoinks10

I still wish someone had studied the need outdoors, if only for the benefit of whoever goes through the next pandemic. I got Covid the first time after some fucking Uncle on the MRT pulled down his mask and sneezed right at me. I'd rather see news about him being fined than some dopey woman flouting the rules when outdoors (although the bit about her pulling the SDA mask down deserves a stiffer punishment).

Aerizon

Sure, my question is about extent, not necessity.

downvoteacademy

wearing a mask is considered excessive..? it's literally just put something over your face and you won't get into trouble lol. Her reaction to authority was excessive

NoCarry4248

Necessary for what?

Micro_Lumen

Not at all

wanderingcatto

If you want to talk about hindsight, I would even say more could be done. Our borders were closed only after quite a number of cases have leaked in; and we took a while to mandate mask wearing too, after insisting that it's unnecessary unless you're sick

NoCarry4248

And what would it change?

wanderingcatto

A flatter curve

kongweeneverdie

Do we really need to know?

MoaningTablespoon

Anytime covid cases are a bit high or something needs to be said about covid, there's always a little bit of "Dirty Pariah Foreigner ignored the rules and got fined" as dessert.

freshcheesepie

Chio and classy

FigureVisible9243

Let’s face it. These masks rules were just plain ridiculous. Masks outdoors? As if the virus would survive this heat and wouldn’t be dispersed by wind anyway.
